  • This is the historic intercept of the Spalding, Nebraska tornado by Team Dominator. It's a textbook intercept, done with the help of Jordan Hall, Sierra Lindsey, Brian Allen, ad Jaden Pappenheim. Our science continues to push the boundaries of what's possible, and the understanding of tornadoes. Thank you to everyone who was a part of this, including our Members!!

Did anyone notice the two cars directly behind the Dominator as it came to a stop? I sure hope they implement some safety features around this, like a "DO NOT FOLLOW" sign, hazard lights, or simply pull over as far as possible. Also, how did those two cars not see this giant tornado coming?

They briefly showed the window being closed. One possibility is the crew wildly gestured the other vehicles to get out of there ASAP! Otherwise, why would you open a window mere seconds before a tornado hit? (3:24 ok you might open it to get a cool shot? yikes)

My house got hit by a tornado when I was a kid and that pressure drop is freaky as hell. Could feel the air getting sucked out of every room in the house through the hallway we were sheltered in and up through the attic. Extremely lucky it was a very weak tornado that only tore roof shingles off and pulled the electric meter off the side of my house but I thought I was dead when I felt that pressure drop right after it sent a rain of hail through a bedroom window.

One night several years ago, back when I was a long haul driver, I was crossing Nebraska about midnight. I felt the air get "funny" and decided to stop for the night. The next morning, before I left, the truck stop employees were talking about the tornado that hit right after midnight down the road. I had stopped five miles from where it crossed I-80 and tore down a cement silo, and twisted a big tree out of the ground. From that day on, I stopped driving after dark.

Great work, guys! Just drove accidentally through the EF-1 we had here in Highlands Ranch, CO. Your visuals inside the funnel remind me so much of my experience. Debris was blowing everywhere downing a light pole, pulling up a huge tree and dropping a huge piece of steel from a rooftop on in front of my car that I had to quickly dodge. It was crazy! As our tornado was so rain-wrapped, we never saw the funnel as it just all appeared like one big bad storm. I wish I was able to film it. Reed, this is a GREAT time to just remind you of what we all here think of your work that your doing currently and what you've done over all of these years. You are a phenomenal human being with a mind that is insanely sharp, and you know EXACTLY what your seeing in the storms via radar or line of sight, and what you can reasonably expect it to do. Thats due to your VERY real meteorology education which resulted in a Doctorate. You are an OG in this field and you created a new lane for chasers to follow today. MUCH respect for that. And they DO follow it. I hope you feel pride when you see even those who are absolutely clueless and chasing fog thinking it may produce because... well.. who knows why lol. What gets me is the hate a couple of the chasers groups show you, when they SHOULD be grateful that you have stayed humble and approachable all this time and still do! You are STILL killing it with your IMPORTANT research, making a difference, and not just focused on jumping in your car to chase fluffy clouds that somehow may produce something and ask for donations doing it. Your a REAL one. and we all see it, and know it. Keep being you my bro, the others will adjust or they won't. That's on them, and it will ultimately be their cyclic failure in this lane you created for yourself and all of those who followed. I REALLY hope that those few switch up their act directly and erase the negatively toward the YOU, THE GOAT, in their groups and their chats. By NOT tolerating the bad behavior proactively. It's a dangerous living and everybody should respect the others equally. Ok, ill stop now lol. Other chasers, STOP with the trolling and spamming of Reeds chat. He is ACTUALLY making a real difference. If you don't, you'll be back to your old jobs by the end of the summer. Nobody pulled this on Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Steph Curry, Tom Brady, etc etc. And they are idiots for doing it to the guy who helped create the very lane they are trying to use to make a living. What an amazing thing to witness the aerial drone footage, the tornado itself but, more than anything else, your reactions live! I always watched you live and I was so happy to be doing so on Friday. Reed, I am older. I was 4 years old living in Indiana not far from Dunlap during the Palm Sunday Outbreak. I don't recall much about that storm but sure heard a lot about it over the years and of course that picture of the twin F4's have forever been etched in my mind. I also lived through the 1974 Super Outbreak where it seemed there were tornadoes everywhere. Over the years there obviously have been other scares but none like those. I tell you this only to say that I recall when there was little to no warning that these storms were coming. I want to say thank you for doing what you do to help us better understand these often beautiful, sometimes hideous and terrifying creations of mother nature. So much depends on it. This was a REALLY weak tornado. I got caught up in something close to this in a 3/4 ton work truck many years ago and just pulling off into the ditch was enough to keep it from picking the truck up. Yea sure, flying debris can impale concrete with a toothpick kind of thing in the stronger ones, but these open field tornados usually just kick up grass and dirt if you are lucky enough to avoid the flying fencing that might be around. This was not the strong "dig a trench and remove a house to its foundation" type of tornado that we in oklahoma usually worry about

Let me be 100% clear. This is the most amazing and coolest thing I can think of to do as a career on the surface of the earth. I wish I could be in that car, I could think of nothing more amazing than doing science in the most extreme conditions on the planet.

You could see a car passing the Dominator right as the tornado began to cross the road from the drone footage. Those people must have been completely oblivious to the tornado rapidly approaching them, probably wondering why that strange-looking SUV in front of them stopped in the middle of the road. They are very lucky to be alive and unharmed. People need to pay attention to their surroundings. How on earth did they not see that huge tornado bearing down on them?

I love how no one in the dominator was concerned for that other car.
