Most terrifying day of my life. I lived right behind Moore Highschool and the tornado barely missed the school. So many of my friends lost their homes and so many children past away. Sad day.
This was a horrible day for me. I was in school crammed into a hallway with people throwing up all around me and the floors were soaked due to people sweating. It missed us but when we got released the after math around us was horrendous. I’ll never forget this day. Tornados are terrifying
I'm always surprised that we hear so few accounts of PTSD, etc., due to these horrific events. Survivors of tornadoes certainly fit the criteria for post traumatic stress but we, and content creators, only seem to be focused on the tornado itself, not on the people suffering through this horror. I couldn't imagine experiencing something like this without it affecting my life.
@@robertstone9988my great grandmother lived just outside murphysboro and went in to try and help after she saw the wood flying around the backend of the tornado. She said it was all gone. Children’s bodies were mangled and tossed around Logan school. The trauma of watching a kid walk across the dirt road in the rain crying with half his arm bent horribly, coupled with the fires of the coal mill nearby that killed her neighbors was terrible. She only told us bits and pieces before she passed. The fact she said the only time she ever got PTSD from it was from seeing pictures of villages in Vietnam bombed always got me.
I can’t imagine what It feels like to live in a place like this that’s constantly on edge, not knowing when the next tornado hits or when you’re gonna lose your home and possessions or even a loved one. It’s just crazy.
Not really on edge.. Tornado alley has started to shift to the east.. This was the last ef5 tornado in oklahoma which is the longest time frame between F5 tornados in a very long time.. Also, growing up in Oklahoma, it's extremely rare that your house would actually get hit by a tornado and in my entire 36 years on this Earth, there's only been a couple times I have actually been even slightly concerned about a tornado.
@@Zuch3tototally agree. I’ve grown up in AL - 60 y now and there are always tornado watches and warnings but there’s only one time that I was actually scared and that was April 27th 2011.
What I always find interesting about massive wedge EF4-5 tornadoes is how subtle the funnels seem to spin. Some smaller tornadoes reveal their violent rotation much more clearly, where the larger (and deadlier) wedge ones seem to conceal their ultra-violent spins inside a thickness of slower-moving outer funnels and debris clouds. RIP to all who were lost to this monster.
What I notice on the EF 4-5's is that the visible wind/debris goes UP the tornado instead of Around the tornado. You can see it in several of the shots here
@@NOVELBITES Only in Murica. It's a downgrade and doesn't make sense. I still use the Fujita Scale as older tornadoes are not rated EF so why should new ones from 2007 onwards? The scale is so erratic.... how can F3 storms suddenly get category 4 and 5 ratings, and F2 storms category 3? Also why is the base for F0 higher? Doesn't work
@Bradley C Price I have a question for you have you ever seen a tornado 🌪 In person I’m just wondering ok 👌 Dude lol 😂. Stay safe out there during the COVID-19 ok 👌 Dude
I was four when it happened, I never saw the tornado but I saw cardboard looking debris whenever we were driving away from it. I don’t remember anything else
This is the first video I’ve ever seen that gave me an accurate sense of the scale of an EF5 wedge in relation to a house or neighborhood. Even in the distance, that thing looked gargantuan. But at the point where you started backing up, it was like standing in front of a giant, about to crush the neighborhood. This is the first video that gives me a visual reference that conveys the true “mile wide” enormity of the funnel. The video was shot at angles that made it feel like being there. This was truly awesome. And terrifying. THANK YOU!!!
It was 1.3 miles at its widest and caused EF4 damage at that size. Now when narrowed a little bit to 3/4-1 mile-wide it caused EF5 damage. Some neighborhoods looked like they were literally erased.
'Only 24'? That's bad enough. Even 1 dying is horrific. I hope they learned from this trafedy and try to come up with more safer methods in bringing the death toll to zero.
This was a devastating day for us here, in Oklahoma. Moore is my home town and I now live about 5 miles from there. So many lives were lost that day. Children were killed. Teachers were killed protecting children. One teacher was pregnant. She and her baby died that day. I was in a panic, as I did not know if my grandchildren (twins) were in the shelter by the time this hit, until about 10 minutes after the tornado hit. I THANK GOD they were already in the shelter. I just cannot describe the devastation we went through, while still living in Moore,. May 3. 1999 was bad enough but this one was even worse. We are expecting tornados this coming Tuesday, April 26th, 2016. I have a very, very bad feeling about it... I pray people are prepared and ready to get to their shelter BEFORE the sirens sound, as by then we only have a few minutes.. Please, if you live in the areas the tornados are predicted to hit, just STAY HOME that day, keep your children, loved ones and pets close to you and ready to go into the closest shelter possible. Have a few days worth of survival supplies for your family and pets. Remember to take any medications into the shelter with you and anything else you may need in case you are trapped. Register your shelter NOW so the police, fire department and EMSA will know your location.. Just praying my gut feeling for Tuesday is wrong...
D5quared91 Yes, God does work in very mysterious ways. It was so heart breaking to see the little children being buried over the next several days. My heart broke and still breaks for those children's parents. I do know they are in heaven with Jesus and no more sorrow, pain or tears shall befall upon them. The worst part was when that group, West borough thought it was okay to protest at the funerals of the children and all others, while holding signs that said, 'They are burning in hell" and things of that nature. I thank God our governor made it illegal for them to be anywhere near the funeral services for 2 hours before and two hours after each service. The people, here, in Oklahoma, really came together and formed human blockades to prevent any disturbances. i just do not understand how that group goes around the country doing such things when people pass away, especially little children. I do know that God will hold them accountable for their actions... He IS our Lord and Savior!!!!
A friend of mine grew up in Moore, lived in Oklahoma the first F5 that hit in 1999. Her parents house survived the first two F5's and lost their house in this one. They never returned back to Oklahoma after that. Can't say I blame them. I grew up in tornado alley myself, never once saw a major tornado or had one even strike near me. In 2011 the outbreak on the east coast, I experienced my first major tornado, an EF3 formed and went through my backyard. The train sound you hear is so very true, it destroyed a Lowes store 15 minutes away. I live in NC now, here you think about hurricanes possibly, not major and deadly tornados.
WickedlyMe328 I am thankful they survived that awful day. I do not blame them for moving and never returning. I am thankful you survived the 2011 outbreak. Yes, the tornados sound exactly like a train that is literally about to take out you house and possibly take your life. I know the hurricanes can be just as destructive but at least there is usually enough warning for people to get to away. I just hate the destruction that comes with both the tornados and the hurricanes..I am certain it was VERY terrifying when you did experience your first tornado. So many people think it would "be cool" to see one. They just don't realize what they are asking for....
I can't believe it's already been 10 years since it happened. It was the last day of my sophomore year in high school when the tornado came around! So tragic!😞
Michael Ross ........wicked tornado......but they should have filmed from a stationary location..........that would have eliminated that moving car / microphone wind noise..and then one would be able to hear that frightening rumble/roar of the vortex......but thanks for your courage and for the upload......
It normally does get pretty ugly in April and May…the city doesn’t really get tornadoes, but the suburbs do. Moore is ground zero for tornadoes. Tornadoes are not rare occurences for central Oklahoma.
@@snuffedtorch3683 This type of Tornado is not common. No matter where you are. Moore 2013 was the last EF5 in the country, and it's been almost 10 years.

I feel you on that! Just storms in general now. I used to be fascinated by them till one hit my job in El Reno like 2007 out of nowhere no warning I barely got back in the building when it went dark and you could hear it crunching like a can and hear metal wobbling thru the air along with ceiling tiles popping and insulation all over. Every spring now is full of anxiety and then I feel better towards the later side of summer if storms hit.
I live in the country and we had a tornado that almost completely touched down earlier this year. I woke up outta a dead sleep and could hear it in the woods. The woods had been brush burned so there were spaces between the trees and it sounded like thousands of wild animals running through the forest all at one time 😩
I kinda miss that guy who used to come on these threads claiming that tornadoes don't exist, and that video footage like this was all faked up using vacuum cleaners or something. I suppose he's in a rubber room by now...

The Joplin tornado was heavily rain wrapped and you can see why so many died in Joplin. Plus it did not help how close the tornado touchdown close to Joplin, they literally had no time to take shelter.
As someone who was in this, it sounded like the gates of hell opening. I also was 3 so I don’t remember much else, other than when we got out of the shelter, the sky was all orange, no other colors, and it was wet everywhere. Rest In Peace to all of the little kids who lost their lives at Plaza Towers Elementary School. Breaks my heart. 😢❤️ Also it’s so scary how big this tornado got, and fast too. It took minutes for it to go from this tiny little noodle to this massive EF-5 wedge.
I couldn't imagine the anxiety of not knowing if my child was okay. I feel for every one of those parents that day especially those that experienced the unimaginable.
My home was lost in this tornado. It was on 6th, & Telephone.. I could see the medical center from my front porch. My 8 yr old was in Plaza Towers.. Luckily, she came out unharmed. Although it was traumatic for my family, we were blessed that so many strangers stepped up to help. I now live just 8 blocks south from where we lost everything.. Some ask me why I choose to stay in Moore, it's simple.. Because it's home. God bless Moore, Oklahoma
You guys *have* to be tough souls...personally I'm not sure if I could bear the pain of losing everything, but home is definitely home. God bless you guys and I hope nothing ever happens like this again, and if it does, that everyone will be safe and not a single fatality will ever result. Homes can be replaced, people cannot. Be safe out there.
I remember being at my friends house just a day before, the day this hit his house along with the elementary school behind it was hit and demolished. I was in shock. So sad.
It's one of the best videos of a tornado. Seeing something so massive. That no one can control is beyond scary. My only complaint. Have a driver that listens. 💯
this was the one of the worse days of my life. I remember it like it was yesterday. just 3 blocks from my house if I went any further north than my house would be gone. it hit my sisters school and almost killed her. it was my mom's birthday. our back porch umbrella was two streets over and on someone's roof. there were school lockers in my neighbors driveway. there were military personnel lining the street for looters. we didn't have power for a week and a half. I remember there being food stations in parks and at churches. we were at one getting food and water for dinner. I got a hotdog and crackerjacks. then all of the sudden airforce one flies right over us. it was crazy. you could see a line from the park 8 miles to the theater. it was crazy.
alieninvaider could you imagine the kids at home clueless as to what to do as the tornado drove through the neighborhood. I lived in Moore when this happened and the kids were safer at school than at home.
Pointless Videos that is why parents need to show their kids what to do when something like that happens. The school hallway is a wind tunnel when it comes to bad weather and all the classrooms are facing an outside wall. So no school is safe.
alieninvaider my school has a storm shelter. But so does my house. Many parents don't teach there kids what to do in a situation like this but they should.

Been a storm and tornado nerd since I was a kid. There is some pretty amazing tornado footage (Greensburg, Tuscaloosa etc.), but this one takes the cake. The tornado literally blocked out the sky. Scary and incredible at the same time.
To understand the science behind them. To make better warning systems and find out how to build houses and shelters better. Spotters help notify people as to where the tornado is and when to take shelter. They help by calling into the national weather service to gets warnings out to civilians in the path. Not a job for the faint of heart, for sure, but they're doing it for a good cause. We need the data and videos to help prevent more fatalities in the future. A nobel and dangerous cause. Some are just thrill seekers but most just have a passion for the science and wonderment of these storms. A lot of them go to university and are meteorologist or engineers. Again, just trying to make things better for the world.
I hate when passengers tell the driver to back up or turn around and the driver has to sit there and compute driving like 🤯 you want me to WHAT!? in THIS car!? I've never turned around in my LIFE!
Police understand he was trying to get out of the way. The police are usually being directed where to go by state Gov. And weather service. The sirens also warn people if they cant hear the general sirens being sounded

THEN wants him to back up....... hpow bout go ahead & turn around & watch it out the back windown or whatever but atleast ou will be able to get out of there fast, not backing up swerving around with traffic around and 15mph

I live in a part of the country that doesn't get many tornadoes. When we do, they are usually rather weak and out in the middle of a field. So, this kind of storm intrigues me yet terrifies me at the same time....
This tornado was a whole different breed of tornado entirely. This storm was the worst I've EVER seen & I won't forget the sight of it as it came into Moore. It haunts me to this day over a decade later. This tornado was my 2nd EF5 tornado as a chaser. First one was the record breaker that nailed Joplin in 2011.

Nadovid watchers, I recommend footage of the Niles-Wheatland (Ohio/PA) tornado outbreak in May of 1985. Earliest home video cameras were used. One guy in Heritage PA had a close up shot of one coming right toward him, which then veered to the side. He and his family were mystified at first by what it could be since tornadoes in that part of the country, of that size, are rare. The sound is incredible. That video starts with big hail balls being picked up, with an eerie quiet, and that ghostly lighting.
How terrifying that must have been for this town that had one of the worst tornadoes in history in 1999. I know this happened 3 years ago, but my heart goes out to the town of Moore and all the families that lost their loved ones and property.
I watch a few of these, and watching today on the 10 year anniversary, I don't know that I've ever heard the tornado itself over the inherent wind noise at the camera and microphone. But two times in this video, I clearly heard it. Thank you for the upload. God bless the people of Moore.

+julie wagoner The Lord took those people a little sooner. He works in mysterious ways. God bless our Christ and Savior!

@@supremeelmo485 Oh, yes, I live in L.A. Having been through both, I think earthquakes are much scarier. Nowhere to go. I just doubted that John D. had been in one.
@@supremeelmo485 I've never been through tornado, but I've been through earthquake not long time ago and I can say its very scary, but I agree, tornados are more scary

It gets crazy here in Oklahoma during spring time...
ooh, Invite me
Savage Sooner sure does
@@Tc-rn8lh hey 👋 there have you ever seen a tornado 🌪 in person I’m just wondering ok 👌 dude lol 😂
This is one of the best tornado videos i've seen. Especially at 6:05 - this looks so surreal: the dark, the winds, the debris, the roar.... It looks like a scene out of this world.
Tornadoes have to be one of the most terrifying natural disasters out there
I was in the Moore area in 99’ when that tornado went through, and this tornado was said to be even worse. A lot of people don’t realize how bad this tornado really was.
That twister is so big and black the entire Kardashian clan is moving to ok

Lighten up will you.
Why, how did our country become so Verbally sensitive. Lighten up Francis
I'm black and I found it funny
@@dharrison365
I'm glad man because it's definitely not meant to be taken seriously lol. Some folks look at everything as a potential insult. Look it's just a fact that the whole family likes black guys. Nothing wrong with that. So I don't think it's a "stretch" to say these twister videos might circulate their group chats provoking a move to ok. All in fun.
Meu Deus. A natureza é assustadora e ao mesmo tempo linda
Ese rotación...
The police. LMAO
"Put your hand up where I can see 'em. We've got the place surrounded. You're behavior is spinning out of control, Tornado."
Lindsay Boswell THE PUN! NOO! AHH 😂
We need backup! Our current situation is spinning out of control!
Stormycat77 I shouldn't laugh at this but man 🤣🤣🤣
Passed out laughing
"You're" completely takes me out of the joke. It's called spell check... or knowledge, whichever applies to you.
The reason why it looks like officers are following the tornado is because to block off certain roads to prevent people driving towards it and also because they're are going to areas that have been affected or about to to see if there's anyone that needs help ect and also probably to make sure people managed to find shelter like storm cellars and help evacuate people to Safety
It's always, "we got a violent tornado", as if there's other tornado's that are friendly and less aggressive.
There are though, this is an EF-5 one of the most violent and destructive tornados on the scale. And you can see that it passes through a town, where as an EF-1 or an EF-0 pass through open fields with little to no damagez
Well...I watched a F-2 land in the field across from my house & it kicked up alot of dirt & grass clippings from a bush hog! Thank the Lord my house wasn't flattened!
You have leaves tossed F1 vs a mile wide flattened cleared path F5.
F-0 and F-1 tornadoes are “friendly” it can still kill though not likely. They are no where near as violent as F-4 and F-5
People in Oklahoma: Omg it’s so nice outside
Tornados: oMg iTs sO NicE OutSidE

No thanks I don't want to die especially if tornadoes that size like to visit Moore I'll stay at home.
@@donaldcountryman3546 it's the biggest tornado they've received in decades so you'll be fine as long as you have a cellar.

Moore and El Reno tornado made me cry watching it live on here. It was truly a deverstating thing to witness and I'm from the UK. I shit myself over a thunderstorm. Could not imagine an EF5 tornado think I'd immediately have a cardiac arrest. Feel sick even the thought of El Reno 🥺💔 everyone who experiences these beasts! Always stay safe and I wish you all safety ❤
Didn’t Albion in Erie County PA got hit?
How terrifying that must have been for this town that had one of the worst tornadoes in history in 1999. I know this happened 3 years ago, but my heart goes out to the town of Moore and all the families that lost their loved ones and property.
U guys are soooooo brave...I'm almost having a panic attack just watching this from a cell phone in Brooklyn NY
I watch a few of these, and watching today on the 10 year anniversary, I don't know that I've ever heard the tornado itself over the inherent wind noise at the camera and microphone. But two times in this video, I clearly heard it. Thank you for the upload. God bless the people of Moore.
Mother Nature is so deadly, yet so beautiful at the same time.
As someone who lives in oklahoma, I can say this is like a monthly occurance to us,we get so many tornadoes here. Once we had tornadoes for 2 weeks straight and would wake up to tornadoes at 2-4 am.
Why do you live there?
@@Gbr4life35 as long as you stay indoors and watch the weather forecast, you’ll be fine haha.
@@jn4898 unless your house is in it's path
That’s total BS. This is not a run of the mill tornado. Most of our tornadoes can blow a roof off at most.
@@Gbr4life35 because it’s a nice place to live. It’s quiet and not crowded. There’s a reason not to live somewhere no matter where you go.

4:30... About the only time a cop won't pull you over for going in reverse on a main road in the US. Giant fucking tornado? Yeah drive around in reverse all day I don't care.
We just had one in my hometown bridge creek, OK yesterday and my dad did the same thing. The cops were booking it out of there too. We ran the stop sign and everything. It was so scary.
RobSchneiderIsAStapler no my dad got fined
Years ago trying to outrun a tornado in Texas we had a few tractor trailers rolling about 90. Cop told us on the radio either park now or gas on it if you can. We ran like bats out of hell for about 50 miles before we found another state trooper that was clearly not enthused with our speed. Apparently he felt we were far enough away from the tornado at that point.
@@mattmoschkau84 That’s shitty, for sure.

One of the worst tornados that has hit the poor town of moore Oklahoma. People died that day, including 7 children. This monster destroyed homes, schools with children inside and killed lots of animals. I can’t imagine the people that went thru this that day.

I remember this like it was yesterday. And i get anxiety watching it again. This was a crazy day.
It still blows my mind that this tornado was on the ground for over half an hour. Most tornadoes are on the ground for less than five minutes. This is why so much of Moore, OK was devastated.
That is true...
15 minutes usually. This tornado was a whole different breed of tornado.
love how the police are always just totally fearless
Watching this brings back some memories when we lived in Kansas for 5 yrs. It is very scary when you experienced tornadoes all around you. I cry when i see these videos for the people going thru this at that time. Cause you know how dangerous these things can be.
People in Connecticut when they see a gray cloud: Run for your lives
People in Oklahoma when they see an ef5: casually say to them self’s “ah a normal Tuesday night”
That's a bit of an exaggeration
Don’t joke about this.
I’m just wondering have you ever been inside a of a tornado 🌪 just wondering I hope 🤞 you have a great 👍 lol 😂
When Oklahoma sees snow they shit n piss and shut down the whole state.
It seems like people here in Oklahoma are either scared shitless of 'em or they turn into amateur storm chasers. I've never really seen an in between. And that's NOT an exaggeration.
"WE GOT A TORNADO ON THE GROUND!!" I wish I had a dollar for every time I've heard that in these videos.
