This is Part 1 of a 2 part tornado documentary highlighting the amazing Soloman - Abilene - Chapman Kansas EF4 that occurred on May 25th, 2016. One of the tools I use to get up close tornado footage is Google maps. In this video I’ve superimposed google maps and radar images to show vehicle locations relative to the tornado.
This tornado formed at 7:07 PM and was on the ground for approximately 90 minutes. Late that evening I uploaded the leaner cut raw tornado footage to RUclips beginning mid way through the chase. Recently looking back through my files, I realized there is still a lot of great footage of this tornado that’s never before been seen. So here ya go...

Mr. Hank I would like you to know that you have saved my life I’m not being dramatic at all. A few months ago I was extremely depressed and Suicidal anytime I was feeling really really down I’d watch your videos because I truly love tornadoes. Your videos and your calm voice helped me escape my reality and situation in my own life. I’d like to say thank you for being you. This took a lot for me to put out there. But I just wanted you to know how much of an impact you have on people

He's definitely the best I've seen. Before I discovered his page I would usually mute the other storm chase videos I watched because it was nothing but yelling and acting like they'd never seen a tornado before. Hanks voice is calm and kind of soothing. He also does a great job of explaining and educating viewers as to what's going on. Super professional.
Hank, as far as I know, is not bound by a contract. He would be if either of the aforementioned employed him. Hank is the real thing; no restrictions. Hank could probably stay in much nicer motels if he were under contract, but then, he wouldn't be the Hank we all know.

I've only ever seen 3 and only 1 was a touch down near me complete with lightening. They are intimidating
I’ve never seen a tornado in my life since I live in the metro Atlanta area the strongest we had was an EF2 and I’m planning to take a trip to Oklahoma or Kansas for tornado spotting

LOVE the intermittent inclusion of Google Maps. It’s so hard to judge distance, (and therefore size), from a video. Seeing the location of the storm/tornado with reference to your location adds a mew dimension to the experience. Thank you!

Which is a good reason to download the maps beforehand. This way, even offline you have maps. Even without GPS/Cell signal you can route a course as you go.

Love the map - helps visualize his location in relation to the storm. Zoom lenses often give a distorted view of distance, and this helps reveal how close these chasers get to the tornado - plus it helps give some perspective of size.

Always impressed when in these videos there are these absolute units who think nothing twice of parking, not just dead in the road, but in such a way you can tell how thoughtfully they've maneuvered their car into an angle blocking the entirety of it. Beautiful.

Oh gosh, I love that movie. 😂 I wish I could see it again in the big screen. Tornadoes never die for me, it's the most exciting nightmares for me since childhood...even though I live half the globe away and very rarely have tornado bigger than an F1.

yo Hank I can imagine it being extremely tempting to get up close to an amazing tornado like that, but the last shots were really terrifying. The tornado was literally raging at the end of that little country road. Imagine if it were to turn in your direction, how tf would you get out of there? Keep yourself safe bud, you're an amazing artist and we want you to keep it that way for a long time.

I'm a doctor from Costa Rica and I became addicted to tornadoes when I was 5 years and my parents took me to the movies to see Twister. Ever since then, I've always love the tornadoes, their incredibly force and beauty. I enjoy your videos very much, they make my lunch way much entertained. I hope one day I might be able to go on a trip of a couple of months in US, just like you do, to try to " catch " as many of these beasts (and without injuries ofc) cause here in CR we barely have EF0s. i use to be a big fan of the chaser Reed Timmer, but since i discovered your work Hank I have to say ive had a change of heart, you approach the tornado with respect and reverence all the while being in awe of it and teaching us about each stage of the tornadoes life as it happens! Reed just shouts and screams at everyone and everything when hes chasing, just ruins the whole experience

I've always been baffled by the vertical air movement of tornadoes. I see a swirling cloud but where is the updraft? Where are the hot and cold air masses? This videos is perhaps the most illustrating of the phenomenon that I've seen thus far. At 6:46, you can see how clearer warm air ahead of the tornado is getting swept under and accelerated into a jet towards the base. On the back side of the tornado you can see that same air getting lifted into the sky as ripples roll up from ground to cloud level in seconds. The rain caught up in the heavier air mass surrounding the tornado traces how this part is mostly rotating with much slower vertical movement. Truly fascinating .
So when i lived in El Reno,in 2013 or 2014 I was in my house and chillin watching the weather channel and then I saw a tornado watch and then soon after we got a *”TORNADO WARNING”* and we were right in the path of the El Reno’s strongest tornado part

i remember this, i live in nebraska. me and my friend were on our way back from getting froyo and it was hailing. we could see like 2 funnel shaped clouds to our left and we got so scared i think we started crying but no tornadoes touched down in our area

I hope you put the English caption/subtitle again in the next videos (even with "tomatoes" and "potatoes" in it, LoL) if it's not too much work. Your fans come from all over the world, and many of them (like me) still learning English. I don't really mind replaying all your videos to catch on (especially your hilarious deadpan one liners)...but sometimes even after replaying 10 times I still didn't catch some of the words, I feel stoopid and it saddens me... 😅😂

I like to think that because tornadoes happen so frequently in Tornado Alley, people just ignore them like they are just some common occurrence, like perhaps simple drizzle. Like "oh a tornado, hi there".

Forgot to mention- I've seen a lot of vehicles blocking roads which is so unsafe. Chasers need to be more cognizant of their surroundings in such unstable environments! I'm so glad you diverted hitting that truck and remained calm! I would've been yelling and flipping someone off lol.
