These things must be torque beasts to drift like that, my local kart uses petrol karts that bog down to much with any angle.

I think they have plastic rears on them to slide

They have hard tyres on the back so they get no traction.
Gas karts tend to be a lot faster, but as they run a slipping clutch, at low rpm they don't get full drive.
