of all the ships in Halo, I just can't get over how awesome Infinity is. In less than a minute, not only does it crash through a Covenant cruiser like it was made of glass, it then drops whole freaking frigates out of it's underside! Frigates!
The Infinity was being built out in the Oort cloud towards the end of the war. In 2553, months after wars end, it was used over Sanghelios to help the Arbiter with his civil war It wasn’t ship to ship combat. It fired a MAC at the surface, creating a several kilometre wide crater which became a bay on the coast. As a result, a lot of ships fighting the arbiter were taken down and crashed because of the shockwave The ship it crashed through wasn’t a battlecruiser though, by the way. Halo: Warfleet said it was a CRS class, which is absolutely tiny

@@ify105 Pretty sure he was just talking about how far humanity has come. Which isn't exactly true. The Infinity is pretty much the only ship with forerunner tech in it. Post War human ships are more powerful than the one they had during the war, but they are still not on the level with Covenant vessels. Not to mention this was a complete fluke, a result of a supremely congested area due to being the only known entry point on Requiem.
I love the way Infinity just carelessly sails straight through that Covenant ship. Shows just how much the tables have turned since the end of the war.

I try to think of the newer model as his own version now though like how Osiris and Blue Team all have their own models and think of the Halo Wars version like what Jerome-092 wears as the mainstream model.
I don't really understand why people hate the Spartan 4s for being subpar compared to the Spartan twos and threes. I also don't get why people get mad at 343 for implementing them into the story cuz in my opinion they do an awesome job in being a story mechanic that makes the old Spartans look more legendary and badass.
This is such a good intro for the new power dynamic that humanity has on the universe. The Infinity is so large, only a few covenant ships actually outclass it in sheer size, YET not a single one can compete with the infinity's technology and fire power. And here is a fine example of how humanity has thrived post war (though, the infinity was nearing completion during the end of the war) and has gone to be the dominate species of the universe. And that ship it rammed, while typically smaller than say, a carrier, is still massive compared to most human space vessels at the time. Such a great way to push the remnants of the covenant to extinction.

I think the UNSC were trying to go for Quantity over Quality spartans, these spartan iv's probably match up to some of the more experienced or vetran elites
To be fair, with the war over conscription of children for the 2s and 3s is a lot harder to justify. Plus it does simplify training time and your pool of recruits. What's better waiting a decade or so for a few dozen combat ready super soldiers or a year to a few months for training and surgery for several hundred inferior super soldiers?
Don’t forget that spartan 4s are veteran elites, the majority if not all where chosen from the survivors of the covenant wars, so even without their augments and equipment they match up to veteran elites. They are the group of elite marines and ODSTs, with improved strengh and stamina, and able to wear mjomir armour systems... they might be inferior to spartan 2s they are the strongest infantry the UNSC can deploy right now by far (excluding a single squad of spartan 2s that they use for spec ops)
Palmer acts very nice when your playing the Spartan ops chapters..she compliments you team alot. and she seems perfectly nice around Chief and Lasky in Campaign. Really the only person she consistently messes with is Demarco, which is probably to keep his ego in check

Lastly, Chief has been asleep for four years prior to Halo 4 while Locke could have been doing insane training for who knows how long.

First, while Cortana routinely rewrote the HUD and redirected power from his shields, there is a "vanilla" HUD included in his armor, and shields do not require an AI. Recall the beginning of CE, in which Cortana was not yet in Master Chief's suit. Or most of Halo 3, where she was still a prisoner on High Charity. He had no problems with his HUD or shields. So while things like hacking and interfacing with certain technologies are now beyond him, his combat capabilities should not be substantially reduced. Second, we know a good bit about Locke's backstory from Halo Nightfall. He's good, he's deadly, but he's no John. He has also only been a Spartan for a short time; We know that he was not a Spartan on February 7, 2556, just over a year before Halo 4. Even if he began augmentation immediately after Alpha Shard, it would still take a good period of time. So at most, he has been a Spartan for most of a year. Third, while Master Chief is TECHNICALLY 47, like most UNSC personnel he has spent much of his life in cryosleep. While cryogenically frozen, you do not age or otherwise physically weaken. In other words, the Chief exits that cryopod in exactly the same physical and mental shape he was in when he went to sleep. While his physical age is unknown, the length of time he's spent in cryosleep throughout his life means that he's probably in his late-twenties or early-thirties. Also, don't forget that a year passes between Halos 4 and 5, during which time John is leading a team of Spartans on dangerous combat operations. Plus, as the physical augmentations of a Spartan-II are greater than those of a Spartan-IV, John is less susceptible to the physical impact of aging than Locke, and MUCH less susceptible than a normal person. He'd probably kick Locke's ass even if he WAS 47. In other words, "if they want to keep Halo 5 true to the story they should just make the John/Locke fight last 2 seconds before John punches Locke's head off."
Unpopular opinion maybe, but I think Spartan IIIs are more fearsome than Spartan IIs (Master Chief is an exception). Whereas Spartan IIs were chosen based simply on genetic markers, Spartan IIIs were chosen out of kids who were orphaned by the Covenant, and who wanted revenge, meaning that from the beginning, they were motivated and had nothing to lose. I mean, just look at Noble team.

I get it Spartans III's and IV's aren't as enhanced or as Suited up as the II's, but most III's were ODST's and IV's were post Covenant war drafts and enlistments, and were much more affordable and safer, and most of all, LEGAL, except....some enhancements for the III's...but those weren't kept in the books. The II's were strong and badass, but their baseline mentalities were a bunch of indoctrinated psychopaths who weren't given a choice. They might've been awesome but they saw no love and compassion, only screens, needles, and war. That's a shitty way to live, and most of them died on suicide missions. To the UNSC they weren't running tanks, they were expendables, a program that needed to have every member die during deployment and kept quiet about after. They might've been more impressive, but man even though it was fiction, that's gotta fucking suck

At the start of the war, humanity had no shields, human ships were glass cannons with s horrific K/D ratio. But with humanity replicating forerunner shields and engines combined with existing railguns, and of course a few years to rebuild a bit, humanity emerged from the settling dust of the human-covenant war and the eradication of the flood smaller, but undeniably stronger than before. Now the UNSC wipes the floor with the covenant at every turn, and for once it's they who are on the run.
Humanity didn't begin replicating Forerunner tech until after the war. Humanity did however reverse engineer covenant technology during the war (ie rechargeable energy shields, active camouflage, etc)
Palmer's line combined with the Infinity smashing through a Covie cruiser like a piece of glass (as someone else put it), is one of the greatest moments in all of Halo. No longer is Humanity the underdog in the galaxy, we mean business, we've got our own supercarrier now complete with Forerunner hardware, and no alien freak is gonna get in our way ever again, be it ex-Covenant, Forerunner, or Promethean. I mean hell, the Infinity and just what it could carry fought alone against the entire Covenant Remnant's fleet led by Jul 'Mdama and still managed to force a Covenant retreat from Requiem. The Infinity alone is basically a Star Destroyer honestly, it just has more carrying cappacity (and 4 MAC guns)
This was the first time I actually see the UNSC owning the Covenant's ass in a space battle! Normally, the UNSC needs more ships than the Covenant in order to barely win a space battle against the them in the past.
Also, the Infinity's Forerunner upgrades are kickass; being able to play bumper cars with a CCS class ship and win is always good. And the fact that it carries entire FRIGATES the way a frigate carries Pelicans is awesome as well

What I hate about most halo fans is theme ranting about how Locke vs John will end in few seconds. Firstly... Yes I agree Spartan 2s are better than 4s but Spartan 4s are not just for show either they are experienced supersoldiers as well...that too with better armor to bring them close to Spartan 2 level... Secondly chief was holding back during the fight. What most fans say about the fight will hold true only without their armor itself

Since in terms of augmentation Spartan 2 are better, the Spartan 4 are provided with an armor which reduces this difference by maximizing the effect of their augmentation. Therefore it still won't be a cakewalk for Chief. However I would have liked it if only the fight was fast paced with better movement and choreography

With Gen2 armour they are nearly the same level as a Spartan-II in Gen 1 armour. And no, a Spartan-II in Gen2 armour wont get an even bigger power boost from the armour. Their benefits from the Gen2 armour in terms of added strength and speed are absolutely minimal compared to Gen1 armour. The biggest Benefits Spartan-II in Gen2 armour will have are the added features of Gen2 armour. Stuff like auto biofoam injectors and nanabots capable of repairing the armour and its users. This is all from the Halo Wikia, look it up yourself
Not only that, in the novels that tell the tale between Halo 3 and Halo 4 it becomes clear that Lasky is the 'favored' Infinity officer of the woman in command of ONI, who already considers Del Rio only good for managing projects, not combat decisions. After Del Rio's screw up, it was pretty much given that he got booted off the ship and Lasky would take over command.
Johnson was actually barred from being in the spartan program. he had a super rare spine disease (something having to do with plasma, along those lines) that would cause problems when the augmentative procedures were done. That is also the reason he could take a beating from Covvies, the disease made him tougher against Covy plasma weapons. (No source on this, heard it from a Friend of mine who is the walking Halo encyclopedia. He knows all the books, pretty much by heart, front to back.)
Spartans III's were specially chosen adults. Spartan IV's is straight up volunteer from any branch of the UNSC. If you're qualified for augmentations then you're in. The whole team of Fireteam majestic was from the UNSC Army. Spartan Dalton (the one who gives air support) was from the UNSC Air Force. Spartan Miller was from the UNSC Marines.
These "Spartans" are a insult to the memories of the Real Spartans. S-3's and 4's are just cheap knock-offs. I know that John, Fred, Kelly and Linda could slaughter an entire battalion of 3's and 4's.
Spartan 3 and 4's are essentially upgraded Marines and ODST, outfitted with power armor. Considering how many years (and probably resources) it takes to make Spartan 2's (and the moral conundrum that comes with their creation using conscripted children) it would be logical to find a compromise between the enhancements of Spartans and the ability to make a lot of them. Plus, I prefer fallible characters over Demigods. That is why I always preferred the ODSTs over Master Chief. He is just too larger than life to be really relatable.
7 years later, the cutting edge cgi for human characters now has a definitive uncanny valley effect (lip movements, eye placements, head motions, etc.)

Johnson was a "Spartan 1"(actually called Orion project not Spartan). But he was immune from the flood because of plasma damage he received or something like that. Something to do with plasma though IIRC
Sarah Palmer Is a good Spartan, I don't know who hates her to be honest, infact she is most probably a better Spartan than the other Spartan 4's. she clearly does respect her piers since she takes orders from them and follows them, at one point putting her life on the line for the INFINITY. When Del Rio orders her to arrest the Chief she disobeys that order, trying to avoid a direct fight with the chief as he has a rep, but then again not many people wound want to take on the Chief.

Most of them are dead and the ones who survived got upgraded with MJOLNIR Gen2 armor and are technically part of the S-IV program.. but they're not deployed aboard Infinity, instead dedicated to high-value assets like ONIRF Trevelyan, Installation 03, and, probably, Earth.
You are correct my friend :). Whatever SPARTAN-IIIs and IIs that remained were all asked to join the IVs. The IIIs of Gamma Company were folded in and Fred-104 was asked to be in charge of the ENTIRE program.

To be fair, with the war over conscription of children for the 2s and 3s is a lot harder to justify. Plus it does simplify training time and your pool of recruits. What's better waiting a decade or so for a few dozen combat ready super soldiers or a year to a few months for training and surgery for several hundred inferior super soldiers?
Don’t forget that spartan 4s are veteran elites, the majority if not all where chosen from the survivors of the covenant wars, so even without their augments and equipment they match up to veteran elites.
They are the group of elite marines and ODSTs, with improved strengh and stamina, and able to wear mjomir armour systems... they might be inferior to spartan 2s they are the strongest infantry the UNSC can deploy right now by far (excluding a single squad of spartan 2s that they use for spec ops)

Lastly, Chief has been asleep for four years prior to Halo 4 while Locke could have been doing insane training for who knows how long.

First, while Cortana routinely rewrote the HUD and redirected power from his shields, there is a "vanilla" HUD included in his armor, and shields do not require an AI. Recall the beginning of CE, in which Cortana was not yet in Master Chief's suit. Or most of Halo 3, where she was still a prisoner on High Charity. He had no problems with his HUD or shields. So while things like hacking and interfacing with certain technologies are now beyond him, his combat capabilities should not be substantially reduced.
Second, we know a good bit about Locke's backstory from Halo Nightfall. He's good, he's deadly, but he's no John. He has also only been a Spartan for a short time; We know that he was not a Spartan on February 7, 2556, just over a year before Halo 4. Even if he began augmentation immediately after Alpha Shard, it would still take a good period of time. So at most, he has been a Spartan for most of a year.
Third, while Master Chief is TECHNICALLY 47, like most UNSC personnel he has spent much of his life in cryosleep. While cryogenically frozen, you do not age or otherwise physically weaken. In other words, the Chief exits that cryopod in exactly the same physical and mental shape he was in when he went to sleep. While his physical age is unknown, the length of time he's spent in cryosleep throughout his life means that he's probably in his late-twenties or early-thirties. Also, don't forget that a year passes between Halos 4 and 5, during which time John is leading a team of Spartans on dangerous combat operations. Plus, as the physical augmentations of a Spartan-II are greater than those of a Spartan-IV, John is less susceptible to the physical impact of aging than Locke, and MUCH less susceptible than a normal person. He'd probably kick Locke's ass even if he WAS 47.
In other words, "if they want to keep Halo 5 true to the story they should just make the John/Locke fight last 2 seconds before John punches Locke's head off."

I completely agree but even this is a bad representation of Spartan lVs which are supposed to be selected from the best of the best in the military.
Unpopular opinion maybe, but I think Spartan IIIs are more fearsome than Spartan IIs (Master Chief is an exception). Whereas Spartan IIs were chosen based simply on genetic markers, Spartan IIIs were chosen out of kids who were orphaned by the Covenant, and who wanted revenge, meaning that from the beginning, they were motivated and had nothing to lose. I mean, just look at Noble team.

I get it Spartans III's and IV's aren't as enhanced or as Suited up as the II's, but most III's were ODST's and IV's were post Covenant war drafts and enlistments, and were much more affordable and safer, and most of all, LEGAL, except....some enhancements for the III's...but those weren't kept in the books. The II's were strong and badass, but their baseline mentalities were a bunch of indoctrinated psychopaths who weren't given a choice. They might've been awesome but they saw no love and compassion, only screens, needles, and war. That's a shitty way to live, and most of them died on suicide missions. To the UNSC they weren't running tanks, they were expendables, a program that needed to have every member die during deployment and kept quiet about after. They might've been more impressive, but man even though it was fiction, that's gotta fucking suck

At the start of the war, humanity had no shields, human ships were glass cannons with s horrific K/D ratio. But with humanity replicating forerunner shields and engines combined with existing railguns, and of course a few years to rebuild a bit, humanity emerged from the settling dust of the human-covenant war and the eradication of the flood smaller, but undeniably stronger than before. Now the UNSC wipes the floor with the covenant at every turn, and for once it's they who are on the run.
Humanity didn't begin replicating Forerunner tech until after the war. Humanity did however reverse engineer covenant technology during the war (ie rechargeable energy shields, active camouflage, etc)

Palmer's line combined with the Infinity smashing through a Covie cruiser like a piece of glass (as someone else put it), is one of the greatest moments in all of Halo. No longer is Humanity the underdog in the galaxy, we mean business, we've got our own supercarrier now complete with Forerunner hardware, and no alien freak is gonna get in our way ever again, be it ex-Covenant, Forerunner, or Promethean. I mean hell, the Infinity and just what it could carry fought alone against the entire Covenant Remnant's fleet led by Jul 'Mdama and still managed to force a Covenant retreat from Requiem. The Infinity alone is basically a Star Destroyer honestly, it just has more carrying cappacity (and 4 MAC guns)

Since in terms of augmentation Spartan 2 are better, the Spartan 4 are provided with an armor which reduces this difference by maximizing the effect of their augmentation.
Therefore it still won't be a cakewalk for Chief. However I would have liked it if only the fight was fast paced with better movement and choreography

With Gen2 armour they are nearly the same level as a Spartan-II in Gen 1 armour. And no, a Spartan-II in Gen2 armour wont get an even bigger power boost from the armour. Their benefits from the Gen2 armour in terms of added strength and speed are absolutely minimal compared to Gen1 armour.
The biggest Benefits Spartan-II in Gen2 armour will have are the added features of Gen2 armour. Stuff like auto biofoam injectors and nanabots capable of repairing the armour and its users.

Not only that, in the novels that tell the tale between Halo 3 and Halo 4 it becomes clear that Lasky is the 'favored' Infinity officer of the woman in command of ONI, who already considers Del Rio only good for managing projects, not combat decisions.
After Del Rio's screw up, it was pretty much given that he got booted off the ship and Lasky would take over command.
Johnson was actually barred from being in the spartan program. he had a super rare spine disease (something having to do with plasma, along those lines) that would cause problems when the augmentative procedures were done. That is also the reason he could take a beating from Covvies, the disease made him tougher against Covy plasma weapons. (No source on this, heard it from a Friend of mine who is the walking Halo encyclopedia. He knows all the books, pretty much by heart, front to back.)

Spartans III's were specially chosen adults. Spartan IV's is straight up volunteer from any branch of the UNSC. If you're qualified for augmentations then you're in. The whole team of Fireteam majestic was from the UNSC Army. Spartan Dalton (the one who gives air support) was from the UNSC Air Force. Spartan Miller was from the UNSC Marines.
They need to keep Spartan ops, and Majestic team as a separate game.
These "Spartans" are a insult to the memories of the Real Spartans. S-3's and 4's are just cheap knock-offs. I know that John, Fred, Kelly and Linda could slaughter an entire battalion of 3's and 4's.

Spartan 3 and 4's are essentially upgraded Marines and ODST, outfitted with power armor. Considering how many years (and probably resources) it takes to make Spartan 2's (and the moral conundrum that comes with their creation using conscripted children) it would be logical to find a compromise between the enhancements of Spartans and the ability to make a lot of them. Plus, I prefer fallible characters over Demigods. That is why I always preferred the ODSTs over Master Chief. He is just too larger than life to be really relatable.
7 years later, the cutting edge cgi for human characters now has a definitive uncanny valley effect (lip movements, eye placements, head motions, etc.)

I It does also follow with the way deployment happened in the other halo games like halo 3, where clearing a path for troops was less important than getting them out in the first place, but I see your point

Sarah Palmer Is a good Spartan, I don't know who hates her to be honest, infact she is most probably a better Spartan than the other Spartan 4's. she clearly does respect her piers since she takes orders from them and follows them, at one point putting her life on the line for the INFINITY. When Del Rio orders her to arrest the Chief she disobeys that order, trying to avoid a direct fight with the chief as he has a rep, but then again not many people wound want to take on the Chief.

I think I heard something about any surviving older models (there are only a handful) being folded into the Spartan IV program, but I could be wrong. But that's why they're all smaller and have more personality. They had time to develop naturally. I could be wrong, though.

a few were picked up from Reach by the Master Chief on his way back from blowing up the first halo ring. the Spartans in Halo 4 are Spartan IVs drawn from all UNSC forces, they've been in circulation since the end of the Covenant war, all the surviving Spartan IIs and IIIs apart from a few exceptions were folded into the Spartan IV programme. its all in the books

Most of them are dead and the ones who survived got upgraded with MJOLNIR Gen2 armor and are technically part of the S-IV program.. but they're not deployed aboard Infinity, instead dedicated to high-value assets like ONIRF Trevelyan, Installation 03, and, probably, Earth.
