- According to Halopedia: The Battle of Mombasa was an engagement during the Battle of Earth, taking place in late October 2552. Over the course of the battle, Covenant forces captured the city of Mombasa, Kenya and it was quickly retaken in a matter of hours by the UNSC.

The other half is an emotional Cheeks and bootleg keys having a 5 minute battle, while the rainbow crew battles a wraith and patriarchy.
Then Cheeks takes a nap, because why not? Oh yeah, he wakes up weeks later, and over the course of those weeks apparently Reach fell.

They knew it was textbook to try and suppress the flanking position, but when the guy just nailed the jackal in one shot, they're just astonished the problem was already solved.

Indeed, if we speak lore accurate a single plasma pistol bolt could potentially disable a tank, not necessarily destroy it but definitely disable it

what i love about this is the highlight that both sides are indeed using combined arms warfare, just in different ways. in the games and other media the covenant especially, but the UNSC are also shown to simply be haphazardly throwing units at each other in a big meat grinder. this a breath of fresh air to see in Halo animations.
Interestingly, Halo Wars 2 gameplay I've seen highlights really well how Covenant forces fight.
That being, it relies on high mobility and incredibly flexible formations as well as long ranged, but pitched engagements where the Covenant forces can weave, evade and pull back if necessary.
You can see here when the Wraith was able to make a split second decision to assist the flanks by firing a shot whilst still laying down fire at the front.
Covenant forces are mostly uncontested in space and air power in most fights, barring places like Earth and Reach where humanity forces a committed engagement and fight on their terms. The above doctrine makes sense when factor in warships in-atmosphere.
@@TheNapster153 This has to be one of the coolest breakdowns of in-lore ground combat that I’ve seen in regards to Halo, this franchise desperately deserves a grounded cinematic take on the story and warfare.

I'd say it's half and half. Half accurate, half not. But for this level of media, it's very impressive. My only weird gripe is the marine not checking back blast the rocket lol.
I suggest you take a look at the "VIP" animation here on RUclips. It has tier 1 spec forces style tactics that are (extremely) accurate.
I mean these are 26th century tactics, so it's hard to say what they'd be using by then as far as doctrine.

Pretty sure ODST's are classified as part of the Marine Corps. But fully agreed. There's a lot of potential there. Bungie knew that too.
A squad-based game that plays like Republic Commando, set in Halo, as a tactical marine would be quite awesome. Participating and even enabling major events from behind the scenes.
Imagine taking on a gaggle of grunts as a small and vulnerable tactical squad - or a pair of hunters.
Personally, I've wanted a game for a long time where the humans are the bad guys; where the main character is a human - possibly still a Spartan - who becomes entangled in ONI's secret web of espionage, experiments, and war crimes - learning too much, and suddenly becoming an unwilling security risk and loose end hunted by marines and even other Spartans on ONI's directives, and forced to wrestle with the question of what the right thing to do in that situation is: Expose ONI and jepordise the war effort and humanity's survival, or do nothing and risk dying, and that ONI is never held accountable for their atrocities, and injustice prevails and the atrocities continue even if humanity survives the war.
Honestly feels like something Bungie would have released back in the day like A Day at the Beach.

The Gauss canon is freaking scary
I think Installation 00 calculated that a shot from the warthog mounted gauss cannon had the power of something like 10,000 .50 BMGs. So I agree, pretty scary.
@@ALLMINDmercenarysupportsystem The TLDR is that, you could shoot at a cruising altitude commercial plane and hit it WITHOUT NEEDING TO LEAD THE SHOT. It's so fast it will basically be instant to the shooter. That's why in most games most vehicles can just tank 1 to 3 Gauss Hog shots. In-universe usually a Wraith's driver seat would end up like a big molted hole after a well aimed gauss hog shot.

This is easily one of the best fan animations I've seen. Really gives a sense of what a battle against the Covenant would be like from a more tactical perspective than normal Halo style gameplay. Now I see why people keep saying they'd like a tactical ODST game!
If there was a tactical shooter ODST, it'd operate on a mostly one hit kill both ways except shielded enemies, and squad tactics. Even a Grunt with a Needler will suddenly be a lot more deadly without the Chief's armor. ARs and BRs would be select fire and actual aiming would be required. Full auto would be useful only in very close quarters or if plasma weapons. Engagement distances would be within 0 to 600m, "0" being rushing enemies or active camo surprise like sword Elites but mostly within 100m, 600 or beyond for Jackal snipers. Rockets are a must in loadout if tanks or Hunters are expected.
I just love fan animations that show Covenant being on the defense in an urban human setting, using every resource and tactics they have. Makes the war gritty for both sides
Tip for anyone watching the video: Play the Long Night of Solace soundtrack over this, starting about 00:20 the video instantly becomes even better than it already is.
You've captured exactly how I felt playing those levels in Halo 2 as a kid back in 2005. Amazing work!

YES YES YES Finally an animation featuring the Marines! Shows how the marines aren't actually just bumbling meatshields and can definitely hold their own. The ODSTS are the dessert to the animation. They're actually really steathy to the point even other maires couldn’t tell they were there.
This has Black Hawk Down vibes and I love it.

My favorite thing about your animations is just how much you really GET the Human-Covenant War. How humans' superior tactics, stronger fighting spirit, and overall unit cohesion allowed them to win most battles on the ground against the Covenant's relatively disorganized mashup of species that really don't get along all that well and aren't nearly as proficient at fighting together.
Can't wait for Part Two.

What another neat detail is the use of a machine gunner. We see mounted mgs in the campaign, but are never able to grab and use them. I always thought the concept of LMG or MMG for UNSC would be very useful for picking off ground teams
Fun fact: the GPMG was actually intended to be in Halo 2, specifically after turret emplacements were destroyed (similar to what Halo 3 did). It was eventually cut because Bungie felt it didn’t have a distinct enough gameplay niche within the weapons sandbox
I, for one, disagree. The SAW was one of the few things I straight loved in Halos 4 and 5
I love the atmosphere of this. I have always wanted a 3rd person action shooter in Halo with this atmosphere where you play as a Marine or ODST!

this is exactly the way i would imagine firefights would go down, the UNSC slowly moving up with armor to grind down the covenant in urban combat, its truly a thing of beauty

The "feel" of this is so uniquely good. Sure, a couple animations are a little sluggish, some SFX could use some more punch, but what this does so well is totally capture the scale and chaos of the fighting itself. Completely brutal street-to-street fighting with lots of casualties on both sides and so much happening in the background, foreground, and off-screen. It's exactly what I imagined was happening all around me during the Earth missions in Halo 2. Also, the build-up to the fighting with the human reinforcements was so hype. Keep up the good work!
Another great aspect of this animation: The shakey cam is just shakey enough. It's Saving Private Ryan shakey cam, where it's extremely disciplined and controlled.
Creators like you singlehandedly keep the story of Halo alive and the community wouldn't be what it is without you! Seeing Halo 2 with this cinematography, fidelity and lighting is amazing and I hope this blows up because it's beautiful and more people need to see it

That's a good detail having the marines carry the M247 gpmg around. I think that gun would be more deployed at the platoon level like the real life M240B, but Halo 2 doesn't have a model for the SAW so I know you gotta work with what you got. Pretty awesome though.
Love the use of halo 2 assets. Had some of the best overall halo design of any of the games.

Very cool and satisfying video. I love Halo marines so much that seeing them done justice is always immensely satisfying. The brute and elite fight was a cool little substory with a very predictable ending haha, I dunno how that brute figured he was getting out of there. I loved seeing the gauss turret delete those grunts.

Love this. Everything about this. So far this is my favorite fan made halo animation. The animation is perfect. The lack of a "main character" is perfect. To me, this looks and feels like somthing made in engine. Absolutely flawless.

Love seeing UNSC Frigates being shown in their best kind of roles as atmospheric support, and powerful in groups, as they’re literally causing a CCS Cruiser to run away burning and laying down hella suppressive fire on the rest of their fleet & ground forces. Love just seeing them hover above the battle happening below.
Also love a Frigate just deleting a Scarab out of existence with a single archer missile lol. If only the UNSC could be portrayed a little more badass in the games like this. Don’t get me started how weak they looked in that new show.
Those AA cannons on the Scarab look like they pose a real threat to even Frigates in close support, not just Pelicans.

I love seeing the convoy of Marines and civilians crossing the bridge. The air raid sirens are a cool effect and add the sense of panic and emergency.
2:19 is so cool seeing different animations than the games. Here the Marines kick down a door and the elite is choking a grunt. I love it!! And cool idea with the kamikaze Spectre.
3:40 hearing "airstrike approved" on the radio and seeing the UNSC ship launch a Archer missile is just too cool 😎
5:48 seeing Tartarus get hit was definitely a plot twist lol does he survive? I still see his body (unlike the grunts that get destroyed) so maybe he is still alive for the rest of the Halo 2 story? Really cool scene🔥🔥🔥
6:47 love to see ODST doing spec ops things💪 it was really slick how organized and coordinated they were, and the quick tap on the helmet/shoulder once the explosive charge was set is perfection.
You are just getting better and better bro, these shorts are breathtaking and beautiful and at this point the combat footage is honestly better than Bungie's cutscenes (no offense Joe Staten). Imagine if we had combat scenes like this mixed in with the normal Halo cutscenes😍
My only constructive criticism is I would love to see the empty shell casings coming out of the human weapons. But I don't know if that's possible...

Only gripe was how easy the UNSC was dealing with the covenant while in reality they were losing a lot of ground, even during the schism.
But man this is on the levels of Sodaz quality of animation, I can't wait to see more from you.

The sound design is beautiful. I love the constant sirens, the use of in-game dialogue, the weapon noises, all of it. Also, even though it's Halo 2 models, the visual attention to detail with plasma marks and stuff really brings me into it!

I've been to Mombasa several times, such a fun place. To imagine it decimated in the Halo world, I'd definitely volunteer to be part of the defence force
