    Electric skateboards and skateboards in general are becoming a more popular way of commuting. Not just your regular commute though, no, there is this special term that is being used for this “way of commuting”. It’s called a last mile commute. The last mile commute occurs when you have to walk from place to place for more than 20 minutes. Then there must be a more convenient way to commute. That’s where the skateboard comes in. A cruiser board, penny board, long board or electric skateboard all seem pretty good choices. Of course skateboarding brings the solution but it’s not the regular street skateboard that comes to help. It are those other forms of skateboarding that will become the future of the “last mile commute”. There is a full review up on my channel about the electric skateboard in this video but I do not recommend it since it stopped working a week after the review. I do like my penny board and of course the regular skateboard in this video. As shown in the video I do not own a longboard but there are good reasons for that. I linked some current proper ‘last mile commutes on top of this description”.

    I personally do my commute to school on a simple street skateboard, but I live on a hill so its basically one long hillbomb.

    Put cruiser wheels onto the street board, and you've got such a good commute board. This is what ive been doin, one board for commute and one for tricks.

    I commute with regular skateboard and hard wheels, but the half of the way to my work is unskateable, so I thought just to buy cruising wheels. I think it's a good option as the regular skateboard is really comfy, can be attached to a backpack and you can actually do some tricks while you go - not everything will work because of the wheels, but even making regular ollies will move you forward on curbs :). It's more heavier than penny board though, even when attached to your backpack ;).

    I personally prefer my cruiser, but I originally started with Skateboarding 10+ years ago.
    I used that to commute for like 7 years lol, then I bought a used Bustin Brooklyn Longboard from a guy I met. Used that 3 years to commute, until I got my Sector 9 Cruiser.
    This thing I can tell is by far the superior choice.
    It's as fast as a Longboard, while you're still able to ollie everything. When you're getting used to it, you can actually do every Fliptrick as you could on a Skateboard.
    Great video btw, I enjoyed seeing Amsterdam a lot :)

      Tricks don’t matter but it is nicer how light some the smaller cruisers are and easier to carry. Walking down the street with a regular longboard starts to weigh on you as you get further into the walk, specially if it’s a hot day.

    I skate in average 2km (1.24 miles) from my workplace to my home on my popsicle. I also have a longboard but it's more of a downhill/freestyle setup and It's way to big for cruising. I also changed my wheels from 52mm 101a spitfires to 52mm 80a ricta clouds, 57mm 78a mob magic street wheels and 60mm 90a powell peralta rat bones.
    Softer and bigger wheels feels more confortable but I don't feel much faster and I like the feeling and sound my hard wheels make if I roll over cobblestone-streets (the more smoother ones). I feel less exausted with the softer/biger wheels at the end.
    But also like 1/3 of my way is downhill. As I started skating I skated to my workplace from home too, that means up the hill which almost killed me everymorning so now my mom drives me one way now.
    My way is like 24mins by walking, 5mins by driving and 10 mins by skating.

    I use my old 7,5" street deck with a set of penny wheels I bought from ebay for 15 €.
    For me, living in a big german city, this is still the best for quick commuting. The wheels were enough to get rid of the problem with coupple stones and rough grounds.
    A penny board is to fast, small and dangerous for me, but I still was very used to just cruise with my old deck.
    It was like a 10+ to comfort with the new wheels. You should try that sometimes.

  • @XvallorX
    @XvallorX 6 лет назад +16

    Hello Mr Bruh, disagree about the regular skateboard not able to fit into the category; I have got Antihero 9,25 deck, put 2 sets of shock risers, riding 59 mil bones rough riders and it works just fine on the rough London terrain. If I wanted to, I could fit this setup on something not as wide as 9,25, but maybe 8,5 or so - without any problems. Regards.

    • @calholden9040
      @calholden9040 6 лет назад +2

      XvallorX he is obviously referring to the basic 'street' setup (regular skateboard) which consists of hard wheel for landing tricks. Softer wheels are great for rough terrain but the smaller harder wheel which is commonly used on a regular trick board sign suitable. Also bones wheels are fricken great 👍🏻

    • @XvallorX
      @XvallorX 6 лет назад +2

      Hi Cal, the beauty of skateboarding is: you can customize your board to your preferences. For example, I like to ride 8.5 inch, 58 mil hard bones SPF's, but my friend is riding 8 inch board with low thunders and 50 mil wheels. If we want we could just change some parts and adjust to the environment. Regards.

      Had the same thought process, he categorized it in : Longboard / Electric / Pennycruiser
      But totally forgot the regular sized cruiser, which in my opinion is the far superior option for every skill level since it combines all the best aspects.
      It offers the larger board for stability, the big wheels to be able to ride fast and pretty much anywhere and remains close to a regular board for the feel/transportability.
      And, very important for the actual skaters, you can pop some good ollies if needed (you can do it on a pennyboard but its harder and your plastic tail wont last long.)

    • @XvallorX
      @XvallorX 6 лет назад +1

      Yes! I can pop a good ollie even on my 9.25 with large wheels (in fact, I can pop it higher than my regular "skatepark" setup) and jump over the holes / curbs. Do that on electric board lol xDD Cheers

I also think a nickel-board or equivalent is a better option than a penny-board, portable enough and not as unstable as a penny. Electric board? Nah then I'd rather get an e-kickbike. Speaking of kickbikes, if you can deal with being seen riding one then they're probably the best choice for most.

    My last-mile commute is over 6 miles, which includes a long climb and a ride through "sketchy areas" complete with gangs, criminals, and homeless drug addicts -- not a good scenario. It's also a 1.5 to 2.0 mile commute from home to the train station, which includes an even steeper hill, but at least I live in a few safe neighborhood and city.
    If I took the bus to work from the train station, it's less than a mile and would be a more feasible -- and safe -- commute on my skateboard. I would most likely take my Penny Nickel board as my commuter board.

    The penny, but wood and a little bigger. Confident. Once everything is very bike friendly, it's also board friendly. Boards are cheaper

    A random thought I have:There needs to be more skateboarding/skateboards/skateboarders, people need to actually take the time and effort to learn to cruise around a skateboard first and then learn how to do tricks. Hopefully there's more skateboard friendly roads and people in the future.

    Heh, in my country you're not even safe inside your car + the streets are trash + there are very few bike paths in my city + it's always hot af. Basically all goes against commuting.

    The perfect combo would be an AI skateboard that can park itself and meet you when you are ready to go home. Armed of course with tasers to prevent theft.

    I think that it's just good to put some energy in traveling. Otherwise people are just getting more lazy everyday. And after a few years people don't have to do anything anymore.

    i think that the penny vc electric board depends on where you're going/your plans. like if you plan on going place to place then the penny board would be better bc of the light weight, but if you're just going to one mmaybe two places then the electric one would be the way to go. juat my opinion tho

    Have you heard of the "mellow board" company it's just a kit of the battery and back wheel you can fit on any board, I would really like to know what it does feel like to ride it on a Penny.

    Hard small wheels are just noise pollution as are electric boards. Get bigger softer wheels on a smaller board. It IS the perfect "last mile transport" pity all the "save the environment types" seem to hate on skaters.
    My advice: buy a board with a wheel base option ~15 or over, Buy indy stage 4 trucks (they pump great) matching or just under the board width, get riser pads / wedges (wedge front and back thin part pointing forward in direction of travel), get ceramic or bones red bearings, add dragon wheels (or any filmer wheels) biggest size you can get (you can slide them but feel soft). This set up can push/pump/dodge/slide and at a low cost. It will last a couple years and by then you will have the basics down, the stamina/structure to progress, and know which direction you want to go next but have a good grounding necessary for safety.

    I only have a little cobblestone but the bike paths arent smooth, they're just like the roads (except for this one tunnel) kinda sucks here unless you have bigger wheels like 54s or actual cruiser wheels

    Very interesting video. I was thinking about this the last month, since I bought my first skateboard. I see now that I am not the only one with these ideas in his head :) What do you think about electric scooters? I'm thinking about the Xiaomi Mijia, for example. It would be nice to know your opinion.
