Just ordered the necron half of Indomitus Crusade to get me started, my first army for WH40k, I've been rifling through black library on audible, collecting physical copies of Horus Herasy books, and it was between Orks or Necrons for me. For a moment I was pretty Gung-ho on Tyrnids as well, but the price of Orks n Nids spooked me alittle. After all the money I've been dumping into paints brushes, exacto knife, sprew clippers a new table for my game room etc. I'm going to be knee deep in it over winter. All I need now is some type of community near me to connect with. Grateful for the strong online presence, but I still need to find a place to play.

Great advice on starting a Necron army!
I got into WH40K about 6 months before the pandemic started by buying the Indomitus box. My roommate and I played countless Necrons vs. Space Marines matches, and I gradually expanded my Necrons to keep things fresh and interesting. I also bought the Command Edition for the terrain and to fill out both Necron and SM armies. My favourite units are Skorpekh Destroyers, Flayed Ones, and Lychguard. I bought the World Scour battle force box, which was a good deal. I know Doomstalkers aren’t meta and their shooting is heavily reliant on lucky dice rolls, but I’ve had good success with them. The box also had a Lokhust Heavy Destroyer, Flayed Ones, and a Chronomancer, which is especially useful with useful with the Custom Dynasty meta.

As someone who just started with 40k, and just split a Elite Edition box with a friend, I can say that's probably the best option if you have someone woh is also starting with the hobby, or just wants the Space Marines, from there... There's soo many ways to go, since Necrons can be Melee focused, shooting focused, a bit of both; just stick to what you like and there's a Necron list for that!

Sometimes I've thought about returning to my Necron force. They were my first army when starting 40k and tabletop games in general so it was a pretty hodgepodge force consisting of the SC box, Immortals, Deathmarks, Wraiths, Scarabs, and extra Warriors. Every so often I think about redoing things and building towards a 1500pt army, but honestly the biggest thing stopping me is the fact that, at a glance, the Necrons' 9E rules are just far more than I care to bother with.

    • @rellikskuppin7417

Love playing them but it does feel like a chore getting all the pre game ready and than remembering everything every action.
(Command protocols and reanimation rolls) it just gets god damn frustrating when a good game flips on its head and you remember your in the novok doctrine and thats why your math didnt add up.

      @rellikskuppin7417 Год назад +4

@@magearamil8626 hey bud I have 1000 pts of every army. Cabal points are easy and its only 1 phase. Eldar have fate dice, druchii is literally 1 added buff a turn, grey knights have tides and its 1 psychic power to change it so at most 5 chapter tactics a game if you changed to every 1. Those are all literally easier than a chapter tactic whole game, remembering every activation to reanimate, szarekhs 20 rules, illuminor buffs, and 2 chapter abilites per turn. Necron saving grace is their easy af stratagems. Id say staying in knights was one of the harder codex's for me to learn. But hey if you think druchii is harder maybe read their codex.

Thanks for making this. I started collecting Necrons a few months ago, and while I'm a good ways in collecting, it's always good to hear fresh takes on the units and boxes!
I would argue though that the Necrons do suffer a bit from being left behind a bit in terms of codex strength, especially compared to newer 9th codices like Eldar and Nids. The Nephilim secondaries help, but you really feel that difference in codex power if you're playing Tempest or another non-GT game against a more recently updated faction

The cheapest way to start Necron is by getting single issues of the Warhammer Imperium Magazine. With a bit of luck and patience you still find sought after issues at the price of the magazine. The Warriors are even cheaper, I never paid more than 1€ per Warrior. I have a 3000 point Necron army and paid less than 50% of the GW price and most of it was NIS. The Immortal Sprues come with a ton of bits, so you can easily convert Warriors into Immortals/Deathmarks. I have 60 Warriors 20 Immortals (10 of each), 10 Deathmakrs, 15 Skorpek Destroyers, one Doomark, 2 Technomancer, 2 Chronomancer, 2 Overlords, 1 Psychomancer, 2 Doomwalkers, 1 Doomsday Arc, 3 Heavy Destroyers, 18 Scarabs, 3 Cryptek Spiders, and I paid maybe 300€

    Silent king
Catacomb command barge- voltaic staff, gauss cannon, res orb
    Technomancer- hyp ab, can cloak
    Royal warden- veil of darkness
    1 x 20 warriors gauss reaper
    1 x 20 warriors flayer
    1 x 5 immortals
    1 x6 skorp dest
    1 x 3 skorp dest
    1 x 5 scarabs

A lot of prior kits are a bitch to assemble.... we are starting to have too many overlapping data sheets, Praetorians feel bland, over costed and have zero abilities. I love how Flayed Ones went down to 10 points and everypone got erxxcited. Then the next balance update half the factions received Armor of Contempt and our smiles turned upside down. Now Flayed Ones might as well have AP 0. Thier new Strats are strong which include Adcance and charge, +1 Damage to Lokhust shooting, MW's on the charge, ignoring rules that ignore damage, etc... but they lose access to Crypteks and C'Tan and Vehicles. Everythiong loses access to Dynastic Codes except for Flayed Ones and Plamacytes. Flayed Ones gain Obsec if the unit started with at least 10 of them, but they don't benefit from Annihilation Protocols.
I do find the two new Armys of Renown interesting and competitive. I can't seem to make up my mind. Annihilation Legion is fast, hits hard and accurately and pArmy wide +1 to hit and +1 to Wound depending on the target's current unit Strength. The Annihilation Legion also has access to Flayed ones.

A 3D printer will set you back 150-200$. Right now the mars 2 costs around 100$ and it works great. You might also want a cure&clean station and you need some IPA, gloves and resin so in total you could get started for maybe 250-300$. After that every model costs between a few cent to a few euro for big models. So you could get an entire army a bit cheaper or around the same price as offical. The 2nd army will be dirt cheap tho.
More important than price are these questions:
1.Do you have a seperate space where you can set up a resin printer? 3D Printer resin fumes aren't the healthyist things to breath.
2.Do you care about being tournament legal or do you only want models to paint and play with friends/ at a non GW store?
3.Do you want offical looking models? Most models you'll find have their own style, but you can find direct copys for many GW kits if you search for a while.
