@@m.younis9849 my face no longer has dry spots and feels like silk. I believe Dr Dray's suggestions about how to repair the moisture barrier in our skin has made the biggest difference. Cleansing oil at night in addition to a gentle cleanser (Vanicream) plus I no longer wash my face in the morning and my skin feels fabulous.
As a guy with very reactive dry rosacea prone skin, I wear only waterproof tinted SPF, and find that 2 pumps of Cerave hydrating cleanser does the job perfectly before bed, and 1 pump in the morning to remove retinol and any oils during the night. The biggest mistake I made was consulting Hirons the influencer, a while back, who told me to use a hot cloth and a boutique fancy cleansing balm, and to cleanse twice - it left me with red inflamed skin, she told me to preserver and not bother with SPF indoors at the office, but luckily I found Dr Dray whose advice fixed my skin. Never listen to influencers with zero skin care credentials
I use IS Clinical SPF50 in beige tint. It’s rarely mentioned but out of 20+ SPF’s I’ve tried for sensitive skin, this is the best. I also have light brown Indian skin, with Keratosis Pilaris on my neck - shaving is painful, it goes bright red, so I use Nivea 0% alcohol shave gel with no fragrance, the IS Clinical tinted SPF covers all my imperfections, the Cerave lotion soothes me
Fun fact: even our grandmothers double cleansed. To remove dirt and make up with a fatty cream and then wash the face with soap was the common evening routine “for the lady“ up until pretty recently. It only changed with the invention of modern cleansers, that promised to do in one step what was two steps befor.
Yes! I have an aunt who used Ponds cold cream followed by Noxema, which she washed off. She got her first wrinkles during chemo & radiation for breast cancer in the 70s! She worked on the wrinkles & started using sunscreen. When I married her nephew in 1989, she had zero wrinkles. They didn't come back until she was 78! My mother used to harp about not getting a tan. At least I listened to her about my face...and I'm glad I did.
I’ve been double cleansing for years. I started as an alternative to using makeup wipes and I’m so glad I made the switch. I don’t mind oil cleansers but they can get messy so I tend to prefer cleansing balms. Clinique’s take the day off cleansing balm is an oldie but goody.
Oooo i love double cleansing!! Feels more gentle compared to using just 1 cleanser that’s really strong and stripping. I prefer cleansing oil tho, it feels more easy to spread on face compared to cleansing balm ~
@@oishi5477 I prefer the balm because I tug at my skin less. If I use a cloth of any kind like a wipe/makeup eraser, I get pretty aggressive with it so I just stay away. Lol.
Double cleansing made the biggest difference to my skin texture. It’s my favourite step in my routine, so satisfying to remove everything at the end of a long day. I loveeee the inkey list oat cleansing balm & ordinary squalane cleanser as my first step ♥️
can i ask what cleanser you use?? my skin is so reactive nowadays that ive decided to skip cleansers entirely and only then my skin started to calm down :
@@baibiebaibea9740 hi, well I’m new to skincare and I became interested when I used cerave cleanser. I broke out with an allergic reaction. I used cerave healing ointment to clear it and it worked. From then on, I started looking for sensitive skincare products. I have been using inkey, glow receipt, and now Pacifica sensitive skin which is fabulous. I have been listening to Cassandra Bankson as well. She also recommends ceremedex which is great too. Both Pacifica and ceremedx have ceremides, so it’s healing. I use their cleanser and moisturizer. Hope this helps.
@@baibiebaibea9740 hi. I use the cetaphil gentle skin clenaeer (not the oily skin one), cetaphil DAM ultra hydrating lotion, and the neutrogena sheer zinc mineral sunscreen. I have dry sensitive acne prone skin. I generally get eyelid contact dermatitis to most products (eye make up / chemical sunscreen) and this skin care routine has really helped my skin calm down .acne stopped showing up. No irritation. Hope this helps :)

In Asian countries we have another step before washing off the oil based remover - we use a little bit of water to massage the cleanser on your face so it "milkify" (I don't know the term in English) but not washed off yet. Once you give it a little circular motion and you should see the oil based cleanser looks white and milky, then you can wash it off completely with water. Then you use your gentle cleanser after. This really helps to get all the dirt and waterproof stuffs out.
I started double cleansing after your nighttime routine video. I’d just turned 44 and my skin was starting to lose moisture and I was still having acne. It totally transformed my skin. I’d never even heard of Albolene before. Now, with the help of you, Albolene, and Cerave non-foaming cleanser my skin is the best it’s ever been with no breakouts. Thank you for your help, Dr. Dray!
I’ve just started double cleansing last year especially since I’ve gotten “wiser”.😊 It’s a great process since I use mineral sunscreen but I also find it is beneficial to keep what dryness I do experience at bay👍
I don't wear make up and find even if I go out for a couple of hours, when I cleanse my skin, I am horrified by the dirt from pollution etc. Guess this is what living in London does. I wear sunscreen too so I am strongly thinking about starting with an oil based cleanse first just because of this.
So glad to find out you recommend Pond's Cold Cream as that is what I use as the first step in my double cleanse. I then follow that up with Cerave Hydrating Cream to Foam Cleanser. Score!
You, my dear Dr. Dray, got me started on 2-step cleansing with good old Ponds. Then I eventually I graduated to Hada Labo Cleansing Oil alternating with I'm From Fig Cleansing Balm. As a second cleanse, I use Rovectin Cleanser or CereVe Lotion Cleanser. Result: Perfection. ❤️
@@laurenpetro4807 cleansing oil and balm are practically the same. the only difference is that the oil is watery in texture while the balm is a solid texture first then melts into an oil. you can choose either of the 2 and there’s no need to combine both in 1 routine. if you have the oil or balm cleanser as your first step, you can follow it up with a water-based cleanser. remember that double cleansing doesn’t need to involve an oil or balm cleanser first. you can just use the water-based cleanser you have twice as the first and second step too. 😊👍🏼
The very first mistake you mentioned I'm guilty of lol. I started using it on dry skin, then tried it on damp. It glided better when my skin was wet. Which now I know is why it doesn't work as well hahaha. My skin is worth the slight extra work rubbing the oil in. I appreciate this video. Thank you 💕
I can't help but notice that your nose looks like it's bleeding. I hope you're okay. Thank you for all the amazing videos! You have solved each and every skin related problem I have. From acne to heat rashes.
I've been using the double-cleanse method with Neutrogena fragrance-free sesame oil as a first step per your previous helpful tutorials, Dr. Dray. Another benefit I appreciate as someone with rosacea and sensitive skin is there's no need for any vigorous rubbing or scrubbing to get off the sunscreen film. The oil in the first step dissolves the sunscreen with a few gentle circular motions, then the second cleanser lathers enough for everything to rinse right off. Hugs & thanks as always for your excellent advice!
@@mignonalverson655 i do the exact same thing (use fragrance-free neutrogena sesame oil as a first step and then cerave face wash as second step) and i don’t find a major need to do any vigorous rubbing in order to get the sunscreen off. if i were to ever wear makeup or anything extra then i’d prob use a gentle facewipe or washrag w/ warm water to gently wipe off excess gunk but realistically just taking your time using your hands w/ circular motions should do the trick. technically there’s no major need for witch hazel/cottonball after either. just gently moisturize after and washes your pillowcases/bedsheets/sleep masks/covid face masks every week
@@aniqanusrat7085 I don't bc I don't wear makeup -- I oil double cleanse only if I really piled on the sunscreen or have lots of grime from being at the gym all day or something. but if one wears makeup then I think they absolutely should gently double cleanse everyday
I’m so glad that you mentioned Ponds! When double cleansing became a popular topic on RUclips, I was shocked that people were suggesting these expensive cleansing balms when Ponds was always around as a great, affordable option. I’ve been double cleansing with Ponds for years before I heard the term.
The second water based cleanser needs to be as GENTLE as possible. That's where most people go wrong. That, and not rinsing the oil cleanser COMPLETELY
I’ve been double cleansing for years, my favorite 1st step is the Clinique Take the Day Off balm and I go back and forth with the Cerave cream cleanser and La Roche Posay. The Clinique works so well and rinses so clean that I don’t always do the second part of the cleanse. Great video!
I love double cleansing, I actually look forward to it at the end of the day. Just the act of massaging the oil or balm into my face is soothing. My skin doesn’t get irritated and doesn’t feel dry and tight, and it gets all traces of dirt oil sunscreen and makeup. It’s the best cleansing method I’ve ever tried. Can’t imagine switching to a different one.
I have been double cleansing since I started skincare and that was in September 2019. I swear by it. I have used hada labo cleansing oil, DHC, organic grapeseed oil ( that started causing issues after almost 6 months of use) . Currently using inky list oat cleansing balm. And loving it . ❤
I am 73 and I have always just washed my face or used wipes, but I have been having a lot of trouble with my skin lately so have backed off from using a lot of skin products. One thing I have always done and still do is take my eye makeup off with Vaseline. Now I have started to double cleanse and am using just Tretinoin and a good moisturizer at night and a good moisturizer and sun screen in the morning. Every time I try to introduce anything new to my skin like serums or Vit. C it gets red and dry flakey patches. So, like Dr. Dray says-simple is better. She is such a sweet, intelligent person-I just love her!
I didn’t do this prior to this video and wondered why oil cleansers didn’t work well for me. I tried this trick last night and it makes a huge difference!!
Bioderma Ataderm cleansing oil says on the bottle to apply to wet skin.....so that might be a large part of the reason a lot of us are goofing up ! Dr.Andrea says to apply cleansing oil to dry skin & her reasons make sense. What would we do w/out her ?? She educates us like no other. Thank you so much, Andrea.
I’ve been double cleansing for five years, now, even though I wear very little makeup. It’s the sunscreen that’s so difficult to remove, especially when I may have 3-4 layers of it at the end of a summer day when the sun shines until 9 pm! I must say that in that time, I have not suffered from whiteheads at all! I only wish I had known about this all the years I taught riding lessons and trained horses! My idea of double cleansing back then was to wash my face with soap and water over the bathroom sink, and then wash it again in the shower!🤦♀️. I can’t believe now that I was so clueless🤷♀️🤣
I have been double cleansing for years. I have always used Pond's to remove my makeup. It gently removes most of the makeup while keeping my skin happy. I then follow up with a gentle cleanser. But this video has me wanting to try the oil as an experiment. I have fairly dry skin so I am always open to new ideas.
I double cleanse with Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm and Cerave Foaming Cleanser or Cerave Hydrating Cleanser. Works perfectly for me. Thank you Dr. Dray.💖
I love double cleansing, on top of it being a gentle cleansing method that's still effective, I find the process very relaxing. Massaging in the oil and then cleansing it off, feels like a spa moment every night 🧖🏻♀️🌿 + for anyone reading this, who also lives in Germany: the cleansing oil from Balea is fragrance free and very cost effective, can only recommend 😊
True, Balea rocks, I use the Jessa sensitive Intimwaschlotion as a cleanser as second cleanse, its fragrance free and has a low pH, and only costs a fraction of other cleansers
It’s really great. Now that I can safely go on my yearly trip from Copenhagen to Berlin again I am stocking up on it. The price in Denmark is a horror story and it’s also a perfect excuse to go to Berlin. 😃
@@gemmaxj-9562 ich habe trockene Haut, empfinde den Ölfilm als moderat und nicht sehr schmierig. Abwaschen lässt er sich mit einem milden Reiniger wie nichts, jedoch nicht mit Wasser. I think it is very important to clearly define the word “emollient”. For many it means rich and thick, having more oils. For others it means to soften the skin. I your video you mention that coconut oil is not emollient in that it doesn’t remove makeup efficiently, however often people think it is emollient because they think of it as oily and softening.
The biggest problem I have with the double cleanse is the film left on my eyes after making everything look fuzzy. It happens even if I don't open my eyes between cleanses.
I have the same issue, so I remove my eye makeup first w Bioderma then proceed with a double cleanse. With the Bioderma removing 99% of my eye makeup I only require a light follow up cleanse of the eyes, no more blurry eyes now that I use this method. Sometimes there is residual makeup around my eyes, I remove that w micellar water (Bioderma) & cotton swab.
@@Jennifer-uc2oh was just about to say the same! The Bioderma Sensibio is the BEST! Does not sting my very sensitive eyes at all. I use it first to remove eye makeup, then go in with a cleansing balm and I steer clear of my eyes because it’ll leave a film and blur my eyes no matter how careful I am! Then I rinse and finish off with Cerave foaming cleanser. My face is clean and hydrated every time!
I have been double cleansing for 2 years...I use Neutrogena body oil, followed by Cerave hydrating facial cleanser. I work outside & it removes all the dirt and water resistant sunscreen beautfully.
I love to see that Ive been doing something right this entire time!! Thanks to my mother, Ive been Double Cleansing since I first started wearing make up. Ive been using Ponds Cold Cream, wipe off excess with cloth or toilet paper, and then wash off face with luke warm water and a gentle cleanser (Been using CeraVe SA). PS. I love that Ponds came out with a Fragrance Free Cold Cream. Been using it ever since it came out.
ditto here...Ponds Cold Creme, wipe off with tissues, warm wash cloth to follow and then a gentle soap type cleaner...every nite for almost 25 years :)
I started double cleansing six months ago and my skin has completely cleared up! I use Burt’s Bees cleansing oil and Cerave hydrating bar. I will not however, buy Burt’s Bees cleansing oil again. It was irritating, particularly around my eyes. Thanks Dr. Dray. You have helped me SO much ⭐️
My double cleanse is one of the most joyful times in my day. I’m in Australia and I use Jojoba Skincare cleansing oil-jojoba is grown in my local area too- and then ASAP soothing cleansing gel. Both Australian made and owned. No weird ingredients. Very soothing and my redness is gone. Stopped using micellar water after my eyelids started looking red and were sort of burning. Thanks Dr Dray. You are truly helpful.
It’s my favourite part too. I take time to really massage my whole face, neck and décolletage (helps I’m a massage therapist ☺️) it really helps with skin health and circulation. Fellow Aussie too 👍
Dr. Dray you have been looking extra radiant lately! Your skin is so plump and it looks like you're aging backwards. Thank you for being such a great resource.
I use the fragrance free ponds as my first step and it’s been working great for me thanks to you Dr Dray saw you use it awhile back and that’s when I decided to start double cleansing 👍🏼🤟🏻
@@ultraviolettas I use ponds as my first step and I just run a bath towel under some warm water and then use the towel to gently rub off the pond, following up with my cleanser 😊
I’ve been double cleansing for a few years now. I love it. It’s just the best way to gently remove makeup and sunscreen. I tried using sunflower oil at first. It didn’t work well. Wish I had these tips then, but you live and learn. I had to use really hot wash cloths to remove it. I did break out some. Most likely I wasn’t getting it all off. But now I love my ponds cold cream. It’s what I use most. The Clinique take the day away balm is great, bit expensive. Ponds gets the job done and doesn’t irritate my eyes. If I’m wearing winged eyeliner or just super heavy eye makeup I do like to use an eye makeup remover. The equate of the neutrogena remover is wonderful. It doesn’t sting my eyes. I soak a cotton round and let it sit for 30 secs or so. Then I gently wipe it off. Then I use my ponds cold cream.
My favorite oil-based cleansers: The Body Shop Chamomile Silky Cleansing Oil, Elf Holy Hydration Makeup Melting Cleansing Balm, Farmacy Beauty Cleansing Balm (both Green Clean and Very Cherry versions), Merle Norman Cleansing Cream (my mom's go-to cold cream for years) My favorite water-based cleanser: good old Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser (have used this for years and it even doubles as a menstrual cup cleanser)
Oil cleansing has been one of the greatest additions to my simple routine. I used micellar water for about a year but I hated using a cotton round to wipe my skin. Micellar water also seemed to dry my skin. UOMA Beauty has a phenomenal cleansing oil. Thanks, Doctor!
I double cleanse at the sink each night but due to my acne prone skin have always followed up any cleanse routine with an oil free non-comedogenic 'toner'...not to 'balance' out my skin but to ensure I've removed ALL residue, that could be lingering on my face, down my neck or around my ears. Then proceed with any active topicals and a moisturizer. :)
I like micellar water for removing makeup, even eye makeup. And what I've found over time is that as long as I don't use so much that it floods my eyes, I don't get eye irritation. If I use so much that it floods my eyes, between my closed lids, then I get eye irritation.
I agree. When used gently and not over-drenching my skin and eyes with it, it works really well w/o irritation. Maybe takes a bit longer than a balm to remove it all gently however.
Same. Use micellar first to gently wipe eye make up off then LaRoche Posey mentioned as it’s a beautiful, gentle cleanser, have been using it for months. Does not dry out my 50+ skin. If I rub a cleanser around my eye makeup, all makeup ends up in my eyes. Great video 🙏
I have sensitive skin. I use albalene balm, then neutrogena ultra gentle cleanser. I gently rinse off with lukewarm cool water, pat dry. Moisturizer I use la roche posey toleriane double repair cream for day. At night I use aveeno ultra calming night cream. I use neutrogena sport face sunscreen. So far my skin feels and looks somewhat better. Thank you Dr Drey. I’ve learned a lot from you.
Yes! I love double cleansing! It feels like I’m giving myself a spa treatment, , it’s such an important part of my bedtime routine that I’d hate to skip it now, I use the Inkey List oat cleansing balm or The Ordinary squalaner cleanser for the first cleanse (I also love Nip & Fab vitamin C oil cleanser and have the Hada Labo oil cleanser but haven’t used it yet - I’m a cleanser junkie so I always have a few on the go) followed by Cerave Hydrating cleanser for the second cleanse. At the moment I’m using Kate Sommerville Delikate for the second cleanse as I’m having some skin irritation from chemotherapy treatment, it’s good but VERY expensive so I’m going back to Cerave when I finish it 🤣
Very helpful comment! I like reading what people use, lol. Chemotherapy is no picnic. I very much hope things are going as good as they can & wish you the best. 🤗
I double cleanse and after years of worrying it would make my dry skin dryer, I can tell you that it definitely does not!! I’m glad I found this video though because if my face got wet I didn’t bother drying my face before going in with my cleansing balm! Thanks for all of your advice 😊
Abolene first cleanse then vanicream second cleanse? I thought vanicream was a oil based first cleanse..did I misunderstand? I have very dry sensitive skin and looking for a good combo dbl cleanse. Thanks for your response
im 22 years old i have been double cleansing using micellar water for over 2 years now i used bioderma micellar water pink one. recently changed to oil, i use kose softymo cleansing oil, have yet to see the result cause i only started using like few days ago. thank you dr dray for sharing your knowledge, everyday i feel smarter after watching your videos.
Assalaam Alaikum everyone. Happy Thursday. Quote of the day: “You’re stronger than yesterday” Just believe in yourself and know you’re special everyday and everything will be fine at the end, lol. Have a great day lovelies. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I’ve double cleansed for about 20 years. The only mistake I’ve run into is making my own (no emulsifiers). Big mistake. My faves are Bobbi Brown, DHC, & Hada Labo.
I have dry skin and I find that using a cleansing balm dries my skin out even more. I think I just don’t have enough gunk on my face to make it worth it, so it starts dissolving all of the good oils in the top layer of my skin. So I only use it if I really pack on the makeup or waterproof sunscreen that day.
Same! The Clinique one I've found works really gently but also rinses off really well/no residue. I use this as a one step ONLY on days with all-over makeup. All other days I use a gentle cleanser at night that works well for chemical sunscreens and no cleansing in the morning
I use Simple oil for the first step, sometimes I use their micelar water for the eyes to disolve my mascara, i love their products and find them really gentle
I started double cleansing about two years ago. I wish I knew a out this when I was younger as I always just used a cream base cleanser that you wipe of and the tone like they used to after and I would always have makeup left on the cotton round. I no longer have to worry about that.
And having darkness around the eyes the next morning from the mascara that hadn't gotten completely removed, eeew. Those were dark times. I love double cleansing but I've only been doing that for around a year. I ditched cotton rounds a long time ago and just went in with gentle cleanser multiple times (usually around 3), but even though it seemed like a simpler routine with just one product it took me more time rubbing away especially at my mascara than with a double cleanse. Now I even wear waterproof mascara daily cause it gets melted away with no time with a balm or a cleansing oil.
I double cleanse using a cleansing oil from ulta then cleanse with clean and clear night time face wash. I have been double cleansing for 2 years now and it is the most effective way for me to take off my makeup and have clean skin. I just bought Ponds cold cream fragrance free today and am going to try it out as it is a good value and I bought it at cvs for 8 dollars. Time to see if it works on my oily combination skin! The first cleansing oil I got was a gift and it was DHC brand, olive oil cleansing oil. Ponds is a third of the price so I can't wait to see if it works for my skin. Thanks for showing how to use it. I wash my face over the sink so I will have to buy wash cloths. Thanks again for your video! It helps a lot.
I have acne-prone skin and double cleansing has helped me a lot to improve my skin condition, I was skeptical about using it at first as I was skeptical about the terms oil and balm, but when I started using it improved my skin so much and I don't think I will ever be leaving this habit.
@@nicholemcpherson52 the way I do it is that I apply the albolene on my dry face first and once I'm done, I remove it with a soft towel (dampened with warm water). I use a different towel everyday, but it comes off very easily this way without tugging the skin. I then wash with my cleanser.
I double cleanse every night. My philosophy is the first “cleanse” is to remove my makeup. The second cleanse is the wash my skin. The transition from cleansing to moisturizing is the toner. I am currently using rose water. Final step is moisturizer and this depends on the season and climate where I live.
I'm embarrassed to ask this but did you have a nosebleed during filming!? You zoomed in on your face once, and I noticed what looked like blood. You are a trooper, Dr. D! Hope you're doing all right. I look forward to your videos every week and truly appreciate your content. I use straight-up mineral oil and Vanicream's gentle cleanser and I think I might start using something different for my oil step such as Ponds, Clean it Zero, or Albolene.
I joined a DIY frugal group to simplify household cleaning routines. Lo and behold, a few folks started recommending using Dawn dish soap as bodywash. The same person mentioned this saved them money to deal with their skin problems...caused by stripping their barrier. Thankfully, a few helpful folks guided them to your videos.
I always double cleanse to get my makeup and sunscreen off. Also, I find it to be very relaxing to cleanse my face with an oil or balm. Great video as always and happy Thursday Dr Dray! 😊
I do a triple cleans using a balm and I rinse it, then I use a micellar water, then I wash my face with a gentle cleanser. My skin has improved a lot since using the combination of both balm and micellar water

I started double cleansing using Hadalabo oil & following with Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser a few months back. I also use Prosacea for my acne rosacea. I wear tinted mineral sunscreen every day. All of these products because of your recommendations. I have been so pleased. Without your help I would have likely searched around for years. Thank you so much!
I’ve found the eye makeup removers specific for that purpose (Lancôme, Estée Lauder and the less expensive drug store brands)to be extremely gentle and non-stinging, plus they don’t leave a film over your eye like a micellar water or an oil. However, I LOVE an oil cleanser for the rest of my face as a first step in a double cleanse.
I chanced upon a video talking about Dr Dray's diet. What's wrong with being a vegan? She looks great. I watch her videos because of what she shares that comes from what's in between her ears. I feel she has nothing to hide in her skin as she doesn't have much paint on her face like the others.
I’ve been double cleansing for a couple of years now because of you, Dr Dray. My favorite 1st step is the Klairs Black Deep cleansing oil & Vanicream for the 2nd. I don’t even wear makeup, but I do wear sunscreen. I feel that oil cleanse helps to, not just clean, but to moisturize, as well.
Tried the Neutrogena makeup remover melting balm and Ponds fragrance free cold cream. My reactive skin does not like the harder textured Neutrogena. My face feels uncomfortable and turns red. The Ponds light creamy texture slips onto my skin easily and I can move it around without discomfort or redness. Ponds "pampers" my skin and it is a super value! Edit: Also tried the Aveeno Calm and Restore sensitive skin oat cleanser and my skin hates it, especially near the eyes. Oh well. Next will try Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser. If need be, will try La Roche Posay Toleriane Gentle Cleanser.
I started double cleansing after watching the videos on it by Beauty Within and Peach & Lily. When I double cleanse I first use the Peach & Lily , Peach Pudding cleansing oil on dry skin & then IF I have waterproof mascara I use the BEST selling cleanser in the US, which is Purity Made Simple Cleanser by Philosophy. It’s a gentle gel cleanser that removes ALL waterproof makeup, Including waterproof mascara, without stinging your eyes. They worked with doctors on the formula for this cleanser. Sometimes I will even use that with my Clarisonic brush to really clean my pores. I’m 59, & people say I look like I’m 35.😉
Hi, thanks for this video. It’s always so helpful to have healthy skin practices reinforced by someone with Dr. Dray’s expertise. I’ve been double cleansing for a few years and love it. It is very gentle and effective on my skin. I just need to be careful not to use products that are too harsh or stripping to my skin barrier. My preference is for a cleansing balm like Heimish followed by a creamy cleanser like Aveeno nourishing oat cleanser. Happy cleansing everyone!
I started using the Garnier micellar water. It doesn't burn my eyes. Maybe a little skin irritation if I accidentally soak the cotton ball. It doesn't take much, just a few dashes.

I've been double cleansing for years and it's made a big difference in my oily skin. Any day that I'm wearing more than one layer of sunscreen (which is, frankly, every day), I need the oil cleanser (I use Hada Labo cleansing oil) to start the process off. Any day that I don't do this, I'll notice patches of sunscreen around my face that don't come off with just the gentle cleanser (I'm currently using Neutrogena's Ultra Gentle Cleanser). And who wants to apply actives on top of that gunk? Thanks for letting me know about Hada Labo--I've been using it since you first talked about it years ago! And a bottle lasts me MONTHS!
I just started double cleansing with Albolene and Cerave Hydrating Cleanser. I'm looking into purchasing a set of mini Makeup Erasers to wipe off the Albolene with.
I do a triple cleanse 😬 I start with jojoba oil to breakdown my cosmetics, then I go in with a microfiber towel dampened with a bit of micellar water just to wipe it all off. Then I wash with a gentle cleanser. So far it’s been working for me.

After spending a ton on nice products I was your nighttime routine and went to double cleanse. AMAZING RESULTS for dirt cheap. Good old fashioned Jergens or Ponds cold cream. Then coconut oil for waterproof mascara. I don’t find cleansing oil or cold cream breaks it down sufficiently. I wet a clean facecloth, (washcloth) in hot water, wring it out and set the warm cloth on my face, letting it sit for a few seconds, then wipe everything off. Super duper relaxing. I don’t use a cleanser afterward. I do use oil of Olay original or sometimes more cold cream. I faithfully use tretinoin from Dr. and then benzoyl peroxide gel every night (I have significant hormonal acne still at 53). This routine keeps my complexion clear of pimples, shiny and pink and really nice. No irritation, no fortunes spent, no makeup left on, no mascara residue, no acne. Thank you for your channel.
great tips I have been double cleansing for the past 6 months with a cleansing oil and I put it on to dry skin do a quick massage then add some water and massage it for a tiny bit longer then wash off with luke warm water.I can get my sunscreen off easily now and my skin looks so much better because all that dirt comes of when your doing a double cleanse thanks for sharing.

What sunscreen do you use ?
Following to find out what sunscreen u use!
I use IS Clinical SPF50 in beige tint. It’s rarely mentioned but out of 20+ SPF’s I’ve tried for sensitive skin, this is the best. I also have light brown Indian skin, with Keratosis Pilaris on my neck - shaving is painful, it goes bright red, so I use Nivea 0% alcohol shave gel with no fragrance, the IS Clinical tinted SPF covers all my imperfections, the Cerave lotion soothes me
Amen to that!
Hi. How did you cope up with your red inflamed skin?
Fun fact: even our grandmothers double cleansed. To remove dirt and make up with a fatty cream and then wash the face with soap was the common evening routine “for the lady“ up until pretty recently.
It only changed with the invention of modern cleansers, that promised to do in one step what was two steps befor.
Yes! It made me think about the iconic Erno László Double Cleansing System with the black Soap! it’s been around a long time ☺️
I made the same comment. The more things change the more they stay the same!😍
You are correct! I remember my mother and grandmother using cold cream cleansing followed by soap and water!!
At least I listened to her about my face...and I'm glad I did.
wow. capitalism sucks lol thanks for sharing this!
I’ve been double cleansing for years. I started as an alternative to using makeup wipes and I’m so glad I made the switch. I don’t mind oil cleansers but they can get messy so I tend to prefer cleansing balms. Clinique’s take the day off cleansing balm is an oldie but goody.
That’s the cleansing balm I use! It’s a great product.
Oooo i love double cleansing!! Feels more gentle compared to using just 1 cleanser that’s really strong and stripping. I prefer cleansing oil tho, it feels more easy to spread on face compared to cleansing balm ~
A better oldie but goodie is pond’s cold cream! They make a fragrance free version now and i am obsessed~
Is it better than using a makeup eraser cloth and washing with foam wash after
@@oishi5477 I prefer the balm because I tug at my skin less.

Emulsify! 😊
Dray!
So do you use the Albolene like a balm before cleansing ?
@@akhiker01 yes, I use Albolene before on dry skin and then I use Cerave hydrating cleanser in the shower.
Wow you’re 44? 😳 don’t look a day over 30

I’ve just started double cleansing last year especially since I’ve gotten “wiser”.😊
It’s a great process since I use mineral sunscreen but I also find it is beneficial to keep what dryness I do experience at bay👍

Score!
Double cleansing made a huge difference to my skin! It not only helped with acne and makeup removal but also helped improve my skin texture.
i’ve been double cleansing for years with daily water-resistant sunscreen use. i’m excited to learn more about it. 💛

How many times a week?
@@joegoldberg5372 if you use water resistant sunscreen everyday then you should double cleanse everyday as well.
@Dr Dray can you use an Oil Cleanser First followed by a Cleansing Balm?
@@laurenpetro4807 cleansing oil and balm are practically the same. the only difference is that the oil is watery in texture while the balm is a solid texture first then melts into an oil. you can choose either of the 2 and there’s no need to combine both in 1 routine. if you have the oil or balm cleanser as your first step, you can follow it up with a water-based cleanser. remember that double cleansing doesn’t need to involve an oil or balm cleanser first. you can just use the water-based cleanser you have twice as the first and second step too. 😊👍🏼
Double cleansing has made a huge difference in my skin. I use Avene XeraCalm cleansing oil + CeraVe hydrating cleanser 💖💖💖
Thank you 💕
Compare this video to Dr. Dray’s current videos. She has put in the effort to improve!! Kudos to her!!
I can't help but notice that your nose looks like it's bleeding. I hope you're okay.
Thank you for all the amazing videos! You have solved each and every skin related problem I have. From acne to heat rashes.
Yes. Same. I keep looking at that 😕
I dont see anything..
I saw that too, it's right nostril 😔
Dr Dray has discussed her predisposition to nose bleeds before. She uses Necessaire Sex Gel for dryness in her nostrils.
The Inkey List Oat Cleanser + PanOxyl 10% + CeraVe Moisturizing Cream ✨ These three in a nighttime routine have really changed my skin so much!
How was it before? How is it after? And how long did it take you between the two?
Thanks in advance 🌹
I've been using the double-cleanse method with Neutrogena fragrance-free sesame oil as a first step per your previous helpful tutorials, Dr. Dray. Another benefit I appreciate as someone with rosacea and sensitive skin is there's no need for any vigorous rubbing or scrubbing to get off the sunscreen film. The oil in the first step dissolves the sunscreen with a few gentle circular motions, then the second cleanser lathers enough for everything to rinse right off. Hugs & thanks as always for your excellent advice!
Does the Neutrogena sesame oil go on smooth? Like do you feel you have to rub a bit to move it around your face?
Hello, do you double cleanse everyday?
@@aniqanusrat7085 I don't bc I don't wear makeup -- I oil double cleanse only if I really piled on the sunscreen or have lots of grime from being at the gym all day or something. but if one wears makeup then I think they absolutely should gently double cleanse everyday

I’m so glad that you mentioned Ponds! When double cleansing became a popular topic on RUclips, I was shocked that people were suggesting these expensive cleansing balms when Ponds was always around as a great, affordable option. I’ve been double cleansing with Ponds for years before I heard the term.
I love the scent of Pond's. Don't tell the doctor!
I love how it feels on the face….

Do you remove it with water in shower or with like cotton pads?
I remove Ponds with Cerave Cleanser
The second water based cleanser needs to be as GENTLE as possible. That's where most people go wrong. That, and not rinsing the oil cleanser COMPLETELY
I’ve been double cleansing for years, my favorite 1st step is the Clinique Take the Day Off balm and I go back and forth with the Cerave cream cleanser and La Roche Posay. The Clinique works so well and rinses so clean that I don’t always do the second part of the cleanse. Great video!
I love the La Roche posay💯
How long it can last? Bcoz it is so expensive
Thanks for the rec. Clinique products love my face. It is pricey but it works so well for me. I will try this balm.
Can this be used to remove eye makeup without burning? Thought some reviews said it stings the eyes 👀
I started double cleansing about a year ago now. It has made such a difference to my skin

It's ok. We all have been there. It's never too late to start anything the right way.
The Clinique Take the Day Off Balm has always been my go to for the emulsifier step in the double cleanse. Changes everything
I double cleanse with Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm and Cerave Foaming Cleanser or Cerave Hydrating Cleanser. Works perfectly for me. Thank you Dr. Dray.💖

I have the same issue...it blurs my vision but I use eyedrops for dry eye and those help rinse ot out of my eyes.
@@Jennifer-uc2oh was just about to say the same! The Bioderma Sensibio is the BEST! Does not sting my very sensitive eyes at all. :)
I use tissue to wipe of oil cleanser. Then wash with gentle cleanser. I use 3 quarter Shea butter 1 quart coconut oil, works for me.

Same! I used Heimish. So drying
I can relate, but I still have to use a balm because I can’t get everything off with just a cleanser (I wear concealer, mascara and sunscreen) 😅
This is true. It’s why I only wash once a day. That way I’m making up for a little stripping by not washing again in the morning.
Try mineral oil. I love it. It keeps my skin supple too
Using a double cleans with rosacea has helped me a lot! Makeup comes off way more easily without having to rub, and rubbing is bad news for me!
What products do u use for ur rosacea?!
I have acne-prone skin and double cleansing has helped me a lot to improve my skin condition, I was skeptical about using it at first as I was skeptical about the terms oil and balm, but when I started using it improved my skin so much and I don't think I will ever be leaving this habit.
I double cleanse using Albolene, followed by Cerave Hydrating Cleanser. Great combo & works nicely for me. 🙂 💙🦋💙
Do you have trouble rinsing the albolene off? I find it hard to get off before cleansing.
@@nicholemcpherson52 the way I do it is that I apply the albolene on my dry face first and once I'm done, I remove it with a soft towel (dampened with warm water). I use a different towel everyday, but it comes off very easily this way without tugging the skin. I then wash with my cleanser.
@@adamsapple4350 awesome! Thanks so much
I’m going to try the Albolene after I finish up the Neutrogena fragrance free sesame oil. I also use the CeraVe hydrating cleanser. 👍🏽
@@Parker1970D I hope you like it! It feels very hydrating for the first cleanse & removes makeup nicely! 🙂🍁🌻
I was wondering about the same thing. Hopefully it's nothing serious.
so distracting once i noticed it lol
I noticed too.
i thought it was a pimple
Right side?
Dr. Please do new pregnancy skincare routine video for your fovarite Korean product recommendations, for hyperpigmentation, antieging, stretch marks and all . please Iam waiting for your video.
I use Nivea eye make up remover for all face as a first step, then Cerave cleanser.
I chanced upon a video talking about Dr Dray's diet. What's wrong with being a vegan? She looks great. I watch her videos because of what she shares that comes from what's in between her ears. I feel she has nothing to hide in her skin as she doesn't have much paint on her face like the others.
What's with your right nostril Dr Dray? Are you bleeding?
I so agree with the burning and stinging on eyes. Double cleansing is SO much better!
I started double cleansing, 5 years ago? I love it. My skin is sensitive and acne prone this method seems to really help.
I think it’s best to rub it off as gently as possible with a microfiber face clothe. I cringe when I see people do it roughly.
Your hair looks great! I like the subtle layers.
I started using the Garnier micellar water. It doesn't burn my eyes. Maybe a little skin irritation if I accidentally soak the cotton ball. It doesn't take much, just a few dashes.
It doesn’t sting my eyes as opposed to Bioderma Hydrobio micellar water. Also, the price is very reasonable.
Could you plz tell me your skin type? I have an oily acne prone skin and i want to start the double cleanse method with micellar water and im scared 😩😩 help me, should i do for it? And shoud i opt for garnier or bioderma?
@@samiadi-azza1987 I also have an oily acne prone skin and I didn't have any issues with the Garnier micellar water. I always use the gentle Cerave cleanser afterwards and then follow up with my usual night time routine. Never made the experience that it aggravated my acne. Of course everyone's skin is different but I think it is worth a try :-)
@@samiadi-azza1987 I have combo skin and struggle with menopause acne and recently seborrheic dermatitis. I use the Garnier miscellar water first. It doesn’t bother my eyes or aggravate my acne. As for the acne, I have been able to get it completely under control with retinol (I use Curology). Sadly I’m having to back off the retinol because having a seb dermatitis flare and now getting a few breakouts.
@@samiadi-azza1987 I've been using it specifically for removing mascara. For skin, I'm also an oily complexion and the thing that helps me the most is staying away from dairy and sugar.
I bought the Avene cleansing lotion and I have been using it for a week now and love it so so much! I'm way less irritated, I was lucky enough to find it when it was on sale. I always come back to your videos to remind myself I don't need all these products and good recommendations.
Mam I use Neutrogena body oil (fragrance free)as my first cleanser for your recommendation.its cheap long lasting and my skin loves it💜💜
Have you tried DHC Deep Cleansing Oil? It’s from Japan, and it makes my skin feel like silk. I’ve tried many a cleansing oil over the years, and this is by far the best. Holy grail cleansing oil!
Ooo I can’t wait for this one. I really love The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm. Thanks for your great recommendations always Dr Dray. Happy Thursday! 😊❤️
Greetings Kerry Howarth hope u r well n Happy Thursday😀👍💜….
@@whitneybrown4067 I’m good thanks Whitney, I hope you’re keeping well. Happy Thursday! ❤️😊
Me too! It is so affordable!
@@DrDrayzday Yup! So good. 😍❤️
Happy Thursday enjoy your day 🥰🥰
I've been double cleansing for years and it's made a big difference in my oily skin.
Abolene is great stuff. That was what we used to take off theater makeup.
Abolene is dirt cheap and I love it.
Nordstrom rack has the big makeup erasers right now for like $6. They’re the best! The small ones are honestly pointless. I have both.
Yeah! I was scanning the comments looking for someone who uses Albolene
I do a triple cleanse 😬 I start with jojoba oil to breakdown my cosmetics, then I go in with a microfiber towel dampened with a bit of micellar water just to wipe it all off. Then I wash with a gentle cleanser. So far it’s been working for me.
Wow! I have been using an oil-free eye makeup remover and wondering why it was burning. And I have a jar of Ponds Cold Cream on my vanity! Well, gonna deep 6 the remover...and hello cold cream! 😁 Thanks, Doc!!❤
'Ah good old Ponds cold cream. My moms favorite and she wore no make up had beautiful skin taught us daughters every night Ponds lukewarm clothe to wipe it off.. Since using mineral sun screen I started double cleansing with Cerve foaming gentle Ty Dr. Dray for letting me know mama was right.
The way i do the double cleanse is using liquid vaseline first on my dry skin with a massage and then put on the gentle cleanser, it works veryyy well for me and i have rosacea!
Liquid Vaseline? Where do you get this?
@@mignonalverson655 i think other names are paraffinum liquidum or mineral oil!
@@valentina7182 Gotcha. 🤗
Thank you for your channel.
iUNIK Calendula Complete Cleansing Oil is soo good, a perfect first cleanser, I love it. It doesn't sting your eyes! now it's available on iherb also.
great tips I have been double cleansing for the past 6 months with a cleansing oil and I put it on to dry skin do a quick massage then add some water and massage it for a tiny bit longer then wash off with luke warm water.I can get my sunscreen off easily now and my skin looks so much better because all that dirt comes of when your doing a double cleanse thanks for sharing.
