I love Dr. Dray's no BS energy!!!
me, too!! Its like military precision.
It’s written all over her face sometimes, love it 😂
She’s the best!
I love her blandness its what make her.. her! ❤ it's therapeutic to me 🤓 also her talking a the speed she does helps me understand what shes explaining.
she's so done lol💀..🤣
How to layer products:
Step 1: Apply sunscreen.
Step 2: Subscribe.
hhahahshshshsh thisss!!
loloolololloloololloloololloloololol
No lies detected here!
Lmao
Haha
I follow two rules: Moisturizer last at night, and sunscreen last step in the morning. Finding out that layering doesn't matter was slightly life-changing. LOL
@@lotussavage1283 Maybe read the comment again. I think you may have misread what Marianne said. Not kind to call people gross.
@@lotussavage1283 they never said they don't wash their face?
Lotus Savage they said that putting sunscreen on was their last “step” not that they didn’t wash their face (sorry if you already figured that out)
Lotus Savage uhm. Dr dray actually says that if you wash your face at night then it's not necessary to do so in the morning and can actually cause skin problems. Seems like you're un-knowledgeable and should just shut up.
@Sam This really depends on your skin type.
If you don't feel like your face is greasy when you wake up morning cleansing isn't necessary.
would you ever do a series on the ideal skincare routine for particular age groups? like what your skin care should look like in your 20’s, 30’s, 40’s etc
This would be great!
bet shes say spf and retnoids 😂
agreed!
30's and 20's DONE
You got your wish
Absolutely love Dr. Dray’s approach to skincare. No gimmicks. No crap. Straight facts. Let’s you know things you may not have, warns you about things you thought inconsequential. I love it.
Dr. Dray has taught me more about skincare than I thought was possible. So helpful! Love that you don’t recommend all these expensive, random, fancy products beauty gurus do!
I trust you more than anyone with skincare im so grateful I found your page
Your point about the risk of irritation increasing with dampened skin makes much sense. Whenever I apply Vit C to damp skin, it STINGS to high heavens. This sometimes even happens with my niacinamide serum.
I’ve learned so much from you, Dr Dray. Even an older gal, I’m 60, loves to learn about the ingredients. Thank you! 🥰
Me too!
You're young girl... don't say Ur old
I definitely feel that I've been more educated when it comes to skincare ever since I started watching your videos last year. It all began when I searched videos for "spider vein" and it led me to you. I'm forever thankful to you. You've saved my skin!
You are such a wealth of knowledge Dr. Dray! I'm sticking with Vanicream gentle cleanser and lite lotion. It cleared up all my adult acne and along with my suncreen that's all I need! Much love to you and your Mom!
I love vanicream as well. Simple formulas yet effective. And inexpensive.
Thank you! I've been watching so many videos about how to layer because I'm terrified that everything is going to be messed up by the way I'm layering during them. It's so refreshing to hear that everything just make this together on your face anyway.
Remember if you use many at once, they dilute each other. Just use a few at a time.
Okay this is the best I’ve ever seen her skin wow
The only “rule” I follow is hylauronic acid first (if it’s not in my moisturizer) and sunscreen last 😊. Thanks Dr. Dray.
Hi Becky, do you let your HA absorb first and apply moisturizer or put moisturizer right away?
huge fan of hyaluronic serums
Maha ys wait Atleast 60 seconds for Ha acid to set
@@courtneyplacey6718 thanks🙋♀️
@@courtneyplacey6718 hmmmmm... I could be wrong but wouldn't it make more sense to apply moisturizer immediately after your HA serum? Cause the longer Hylauronic acid sits on your face the more it would potentially draw out moisture from the skin.. And especially if you use a cleanser or two before hand you would want your moisturizer on as soon as possible.
I’m so glad I found this video! I’ve been agonizing over putting on which serum should go first - now I know it doesn’t matter!
Thanks Dr. Dray! That did clear up some things I had heard here and there. Sending Mama Dray all kinds of love!
I found you a couple days ago and binged a lot of your videos, so far I have seen a huge change in how my skin looks more hydrated and my skin barrier looks like it’s starting to repair! Thanks dr. Dray!
You did very well considering you had been putting off this recording for some time. Good info about retinol. I’ve gone a bit crazy with skincare during lockdown as I find out more about the benefits of niacinamide, AHAs etc. I bring a basket of products with me whenever I am washing my face and body!
This has been extremely helpful, thank you! Another point about having so many products to layer or mix, is that it makes the routine take too much time. That's what I have been doing, & I'm planning to change that after listening to you, Dr. Dray. The idea of a simpler routine sounds lovely.
Today’s video will be well received. Thx for moving past your headache on this topic. 😂 👏
Happy Monday :)
what are actives? i'm a newbie lol
Dr Dray I wonder your thoughts on the Skin Better Alpha Ret Overnight Cream? Is there such a thing as over exfoliation since this product has latic acid in it.
I got a headache doing this too. Super stressed, so thanks
@@mariel7475 active ingredients
Dr dray has revolutionized my understanding of skincare
Amen to that. She has revolutionized a lot of information for me. Love her no shit attitude. She does'nt take life TOO serious. That is my learned approch to most things in life as I have aged. I love love love her!!!!!!
Oh, this will be good. My layering technique is not to use more than one active at a time and to apply those actives on different days and over moisturizer because my skin is sensitive. When things are really sensitive, I just use a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen.
Edit: You're totally right. Specific questions should be directed to the prescribing doctor.
Thanks for the great tip
Same! The more actives you layer on your face at one time, the more likelihood of your skin having a bad reaction. I also like doing one active at a time since you can truly see if that active is making a difference or not. If you put 12 different products on your face and it causes your skin to look good or bad, you have no idea which ingredient caused that to happen.
So if you have a Peptide serum or any other type of serum with an active ingredient do you put it last? After you have moisturized?
Lyra Peach I’ve never used peptides, but I don’t think I’d consider them “active” in the same way I do retinoids or acids. I think a peptide serum could be used before moisturizer, but I always use my retinoids & acids when my face is cleansed, moisturized, and dry.
Lyra Peach i feel like we also need to take things into consideration. Peptides and acids won't go together, they nust cancel each other out, So I wouldn't use peptides after aha or bha. If you wish to use the peptide serum, maybe use it alone and moisturizer. Or maybe do more research with what it goes with. Good luck, friend!
It’s such an amazing experience following you through the years in the RUclips world. I don’t know why I didn’t subscribe before but I’m glad I do now. You look and sound so amazing presently and it’s life affirming and it’s that life is process, learning, doing, breathing, living.
I just love your direct no bologna approach and honesty. Found my favorite sunscreen through you Elta MD 40 or Altruist
I'm addicted to your videos dr. Dray, thanks for the precious studies based tips and information. Your Channel is a true treasure ❤
I am obsessed with your videos, I wish I had this information in my 20s, sigh...
Thank you for clarifying! People will even go as far as criticizing others for "applying skincare in the wrong order".
I’m so happy I found your channel. I love your straight to the point , easy to understand information.
I ALWAYS read comments on your videos. I love this community ❤️❤️❤️
You've been glowing in these last couple of videos girl !!!!!
Thank you DR. Dray for taking time to help with so many issues. Bless you
I’m so glad I found your channel. I found Vanicream thanks to you. I’ve never had better skin!!
I like the fact you’re no nonsense - how refreshing! Thank you.
My dermatologist still claims applying differin after Vanicream will make it less effective. I continued to do it because I told her it helps with reducing my irritation. Normally I do every single thing she says but I stand firm on applying my moisturizer to my damp skin and then applying differin. My skin has been clear now for months so the differin is working applied after the cream.
yea it’ll still work. she has another video claiming you can still do that & it’s still effective if anything less irritating!
just replying because i know it’s refreshing to be validated
I follow the recommendation of applying Adapalene after moisturizer and had no irritation. I suppose it depends on what your skin tells you?
Same! Well mousturizer on my wet face before tretinoin
Your dermatologist is not wrong, and you are also not wrong. You see, applying differin after Vanicream does indeed make it less effective, and that is precisely the reason why it is less irritating to your skin. It doesn't mean it won't work, it just means it will take longer for it to work. All you need to do is get used to the speed the medication works. Like riding a bike, you can get there sooner if you peddle faster, but you will also get there if you paddle a bit slower while also being less tired.
Thank you for clarifying pH level. I feel like a lot of us mere mortals obsess about this part of skincare.
Thank you for debunking and/or clarifying all the noise about skincare. You (in addition to my own dermatologist) have changed my world!
I just do: cleanse, moisturize, sunscreen (AM) and cleanse, treatment, moisturize (PM). I do have a couple of essences, one I use at morning and one at night. But they're really just for fun lol
Thanks for talking about this, the layering was getting confusing and I was trying to remember what active ingredients I heard could counteract others. My skin has never looked better so I know I'm doing something right. Being managed by a derm changed the game for me! Rosacea is a menace.
Gabriella Kottke Agree! dealing with rosacea is a pain. Would you mind sharing what products are working for you?
Elli Valentine hi! My dermatologist put me on three topical treatments, and then Rosacare moisturizer in the mornings has a helpful green tint and is very good, and the Cetaphil Redness Relief night moisturizer and spf moisturizer I really like. Heavy creams seem to cause a lot of stinging, but these three are very light and never irritate the rosacea. Got the tips for those three moisturizers from this channel!
@@TheChubbyDoe wow i have to try those moisturizers!
She also has a video describing which ingredients you shouldn't mix together
This is the best layering video I’ve seen. Makes so much sense
The Ordinary AHA BHA peel is not supposed to be applied on damp skin. People have gotten chemical burns from using it that way. The instructions say to make sure your face is dry.
She said that it'll be extremely irritating
Good to know. I accidentally did this in ignorance and had severe itching and redness. Thank you!
It is clearly mentioned in their package not to apply on damp skin.
Yes, so I bought the Paula’s Choice BHA toner before I started watching Dr. Dray’s videos and I recently bought the Exuivance pads from Ulta. For my current routine, I wash my face, when it’s damp I apply a spritz of SKN-II, Hado Labo HA, sunscreen (am) and moisturizer (pm). Sooo...my question is, where can I use my BHA toner? I can’t put it on when my face is wet and it seems futile to use it over moisturizer. I figured I’d use the pads as a tx like 1-2 a week when my skin needs it, but I’m stumped with the toner. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
SA Herb I have paulas choice bha toner as well. I don’t use it like a regular toner. My theory is the bha salicylic acid would still absorb into the skin. I’ve done it for a month-ish now and it worked just fine. It removed my blackheads and whiteheads. I don’t use bha everyday though. I use it 2-3 times a week bc I alternate it with tretinoin.
Literally how did you know this is what I was looking for!!
Wow! I am so thankful to have found this video! I have been trying to educate myself on skin care to help treat my rosacea and I didn’t really understand the why and how but I do thanks to your videos! Thank you so much!!
I constantly go back to her videos and rewatch so informative I love her !!
Just catching this today. Thanks for validating a simple skin care! BTW, your skin looks flawless today.
You know you're a fan when you keep hitting refresh to get the day's latest Dr. Dray vid. Comes at 12:03 EST on my laptop. Have a good week, everyone!
Thank You!! Happy Monday!! Hope You Have a Wonderful Week!!
I love watching your educational videos all the time that I rewatch them over and over in case I forget your professional skin care advice. And I love looking at your face that makes me wonder what you have applied in your face for each video you make. Hope you can share in your video or caption what you applied in your face before filming the videos. 😊
Love your no nonsense approach! I was fretting about the correct order of steps and now I feel much less concerned.
Happy Monday Everybody!! Have a Great Day!!
I sometimes think more products, layers upon layers, can just be overkill.
its about balance, sometimes layering products is great, and key to layering in the right order, but yes I see a lot of clients with skin issues becasue they are just doing too much to their skin
My skin agrees with you! 😄
My wallet agrees with u
I breakout when I put too many products on my face!
Exactly!
I'm hearing on the current Korean routine and also from you, Dr. Dray, to just keep the line-up of product simple. Got it!
Please talk about the Flawless razor and face epilator! love your vids as always!!💖
Can you make a video on Lichen Planus? I think it would be really cool if you did a series on rare skin disorders! I'm sure like many others here, we watch your videos even when they don't apply to us because they're so well researched and simply because we love you Dr.Dray!
Great idea, if a condition can't be cured, we can always cure ignorance (John Roedel)!
I am counting the days till you get to 1 million subscribers....we will celebrate! Happy Monday Dr Dray and peeps :)))
Thank You!! Happy Monday!! I Hope You Have a Fantastic Day!!
Thank you so much for your support. Happy Monday :)
@@DrDrayzday you are such a hard worker and wonderful role model for us all. You deserve it
Count me in for the celebration!😎
I can’t help but get riled up when I see other you tubers that post garbage skincare advice and have more subscribers. But I know Dr Dray is an actual doctor and doesn’t worry herself with things like that...
Dr Dray, I found your channel this year and have learnt so much. Thank you for giving no BS advice. You’ve helped me become a sunscreen evangelist after enduring 40 years of Australian sun!
Thank you so much, Dr Dray! I generally only use a moisturizer and sunscreen but occasionally I do use a toner or a serum. It gets confusing when trying to figure what order to put them on. This was helpful. Happy Monday! Have a wonderful evening. 💚
I bought a pretty folding fan for $1 and use it to dry my skin before applying my final product- retinol serum at night, and SPF in the morning.
Brilliant!!
That’s a great idea. I just search around for opened mail envelopes lol
You look beautiful! So healthy and glowy 🥰. I'm working HARD on my skin care right now after recently quitting smoking 🚬 (ewww I know, 20 years!!). You are goals 🙌 😍
Its kind of nice knowing it doesn't matter the order. I always thought it was a pain trying to constantly figure out the rote and procedure of it all. What's so crazy is that many dermatologists will tell you there is an order. One thing I will tell you guys from what I have learned from my own experience....Using an occlusive product at the very end really goes a long way in protecting that moisture barrier. I love to use a good petroleum jelly cream. Got one at Dollar Tree for $1 and it's one of the best investments I have made. My breakouts are gone and my skin feels so supple.
Thanks Dr. Dray for your helpful videos, I am German, 69 years old and following you from Germany/Cologne. I love your approach to skincare, especially yor 'message' to keep it to a minimum. Best regards Sabine
Good morning all. Dr. Dray, thank you so much for this video!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Thanks Dr Dray for clarifying these issues. I appreciate and understand that its important to keep it simple so it's not confusing. However there are many videos on promoting the advantages of different serums and it encourages the viewer to include it in their skincare regime. Some people swear by some serums. So its difficult to ignore this info especially if it seems to target a skin issue you might have. Consequently we decide to include it hence introducing more steps into our skincare. So it's not easy to keep it simple🤣
Thank you so much for your good advices. You are so helpful! I tried a lot of the things you recommended and I have good results!
You are absolutely glowing, Dr. Dray!! ❤️
Thanks for this explanation. I only 'discovered' your videos yesterday (immediately subscribed) and didn't know where to start. I thought this video was a good place. I'm in my 50s and have been using pretty good skincare for a couple decades, but I'm very open to learning more. I've always applied layers according to 'thinnest' to 'thickest' with letting each layer dry before the next, and I was surprised to learn that applying to damp skin may help absorption. I probably use too many layers/products but as it's nearly impossible to know the concentrations when there are multiple ingredients in a particular product so I probably overdo some, but that's more about wasting money than causing damage. I love having a routine that helps me unwind at night and prepare for the day - a few minutes of pampering myself time each day. And I must be doing something right because I love seeing peoples' eyes bulge when I'm occasionally carded for something and they see my age. :)
You have to lock in everything with a moisturizer!!, the best skin care tip I have ever heard, or else everything will dry up and not really absorb into the pores
Keep coming back to these as I find the right routine. Thank you :)
Thank you so much for this and all of your videos. I have learned so much!!! I just want to tell you that you look great 😊 Your hair and skin look so healthy and you just look so healthy and great overall! ❤❤❤
Hi Dr. Dray! What do you think of PRP (platelet rich plasma) for hair loss? Can you please do a video on it?
YES
I was thinking about this today
Thank you for making this video!❤❤
This is the most helpful skin care video I have ever watched.
I've been scouring the internet all day to know what to do with pH and everything. Thank for this video. I don't need to overthink anymore.
Omggg I was NEEDING this!
Ty so much for this video! Layering only makes sense how you talk about it!
I’m so thankful this is so much simpler than I was making it out to be (or led to believe it was).
I did Learn about hyaluronic acid though, and how to apply it more efficiently, so thank you !!
Thanks Dr.Dray! I’ll keep it simple and try not to overthink it!
My skin has never looked so good before following Dr. Dray’s videos. Her advice is absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much, Dr. Dray!!
Great video Dr Dray! I started buying all these new serums from The Ordinary but then had a reaction and to just one serum and returned everything. I didn’t really have skin issue but was trying to slow down the aging game. Now I’m just doing my normal face washing, Tretinoin cream and added CeraVe moisturizer and sunscreen to my skin regimen as you suggested. And like you said, keep it simple and that’s what I’m going to do since it’s been working for me.
Glad I found your video on this. [2.00-2.55] I found this to be very true. I've never had a real "skincare routine" so Jan. 2021 was the year to begin. Using Paula's Choice BHA Liquid Exfoliant and applied right after cleansing to damp skin and had some irritation. On the other hand when I apply the Paula's Choice Calming Toner right after cleansing to damp skin it does NOT irritate my skin. So with the BHA I only use it once a week at night, and I do have to wait for skin to dry before applying! So glad what I was experiencing is "normal" and I just need to adjust - THANKS!!!
Another brilliant video and making everything so much more simple! Thanks
Dr. Dray--your videos are so interesting & educational. Would you be able to do one on older skin bruising & what to do about it & what causes it? Thank you, Julie
Yes, PLEASE!
Thanks Andrea! I just started , at a late age, a 4 step skin care routine. U have halted me tremendously!! Cleanse/ moisturize: sunscreen/ and vit A at night, with moisturizers if redness occurs. I can’t thank you enough ! Hi to your mom and Tybee! ( I have a Tybee twin at home🐕🐕🐕)
Thank you so much for this video, I've been wondering a lot about this lately as I started a few new products but wasn't sure what order I should implement them.
Neutrogena hydro boost body gel moisturizer had been amazing and I layer a regular body cream and face cream over it and leaves both my body and face hydrated and plumped which I love! Thank you Dr. Dray on the tip of Neutrogena hydro boost video the other day.
I’m so greatful for all your content I feel my skin changing already and I love it!! I am so obsessed with sunscreen now and have been lacking in the past years but you really help explain how things in detail so I very much understand the truth behind skin care 💙🤎
Happy Monday Dr Dray...I’ve had major fails layering...good old moisturiser and the one thing we must never ever skip on ..sunscreen!..see you tomorrow x💙🤩
Paula Hatch happy Monday
My derm prescribed Adapalene to me years ago. It was drying so I used a moisturizer before and after. I never really got an explanation if what I'm doing is right (coz I haven't seen my derm and my pimples are gone). Thanks to this video, I kinda feel justified that what I did before was right.
love your all videos!! your skin is glowing as always
This is a classic. Thanks for doing the drudgery for us!
Scrolling through comments looking for a brief recap...
Just watch the damn video
Same
same here 🤣
I know my attention span is trash 😅
Here you go. Generally, order really doesn’t matter that much but there are a few principles to remember:
- actives applied to damp skin are absorbed better but also higher risk of irritation
- nothing can penetrate through petrolatum
- don’t mix sunscreen or prescription retinoids with moisturizer to prevent uneven application just layer
Don’t worry about so much about pH. Everything applied will be mixed and diluted all together to some degree and ingredients will penetrate just fine.
I will consider myself minimalist with the 3 basic products, when I want to feel bourgeoise, I add retinol, and vitamin C ( both dr Dray approved brands ) then on those days when I need some extra self confidence, I add AHA , but on day to day , a cleanser, a moisturizer and of course a sunscreen
This has always been my problem. Thank you for clearing this up.
Best things: specific examples. Next best: principles of application and usage. Thank you!!!! This was a great video!!!!
Thank you Dr Dray 💙 Greetings from Germany and have a nice day!
Hello! Your skin looks so glowing & nourished. Thanks for talking about layering. I wanna simply my routine but I just have too many products that I don’t wanna throw out 🙈 I’m trying to use them as hand creams!
I do that too!🤣 use all face creams as hand creams, some are expensive and I can't throw them out, I'm all stocked up for hand cream until 2030🤦♀️🤣
You did a great job with this video...thanks, Dr. Dray!
Thank you very much! You have unlocked skincare myths so far. I had thought there must be some problem with my sensitive skin. I had done all the tips online but they kinda backfired in a way.
Happy Monday Dr Dray and everyone. Great video. Skincare and cosmetic companies have made things so complicated to make us purchase more products. I have simplified my skincare and makeup and its wonderful 😍have a fantastic day love to mom and Tybee 🤗🤗🤗
Happy Monday :)
Thank You Sooo Much Sweet Friend!! Happy Monday!! I Hope You Have a Magnificent Day!! Please You and Yours Stay Safe and Well!! Always!! XOxoxo!!
Jackie Marsh thanks dear friend hope you and yours have a wonderful day stay safe always 😍😍😍🥰
Dr Dray Need your advice! I recently heard here on youtube that retinol long term causes breakdown of skin lipids and something about cells only dividing 50 times... Retinol causes rapid division and damage in long term. I trust you please speak to this I would love to hear your opinion.
Rose R it does not
I used my thick vanicream lotion first then I try to let it dry before I put on epiduo forte and it has been working.
Straight forward no nonsense. I dig it 😎
Love your videos!!
I love Dr Dray! Period.
