- We asked Chris to do a proper review of the new 2021 Yamaha MT-09 SP, but he took it off road and tested how high it would jump. What did we expect!

My son has had 3 MT 09s, his current one is the SP version & what a fantastic bike, he loves it. So yesterday we went to our local Yam dealer to see the new version intending to order one. OMG!...What have Yamaha done, I'm not talking about the dynamics of the bike, I'm sure it's fantastic to ride, but the looks & finish. Take a look at the rear brake & gear change levers, they look like they were knocked up in someones garden shed. The horn sticking out at the front under the ugly headlight with the wiring & connectors exposed to the elements. Flimsy plastic & exposed taped wiring everywhere. We were so disappointed, even the dealer couldn't really show any enthusiasm. So were off to our local Triumph this weekend.

I like it, in fact I am actually shopping for one of these. It’s a decent sized 3 cylinder without a lot of bodywork. It’ll be a blast to ride down some fun twisty roads.

THANK YOU for this review! Finally someone who pushed the MT09 to the limit! Did not expect that off road jump at all, great stuff. This is what they intended for the bike not about cruising your daily commute with a good miles per gallon..

Glad they left the "hooning part" in the updated version of this bike and managed to not choke it out for compliance. Also glad you left the drop in the video, its like a great commercial for sliders and bar end protection but also shows that when you are goofing around, and you will be goofing around on this bike, drops are going to happen and it is not that big deal. I love it , thrashing these things in a proper review is what makes us end up buying them. It has an easily replaceable rear sub frame which saves a lot time and some money after it gets looped as well.
A bike that can jump, survive, and then ride you around in relative comfort is sure one to consider.
I love his reviews, always lighthearted and fun, never dull.

Not so, my mate bought 2 panigale press bikes. Both excellent, 1st one rode to the Nordcap on it.
Isn't this what motorcycling is all about? Having fun on two wheels? Whatever it may be. Round that favorite twisty bits, wheeling to the coffeshop or just being a hooligan. And if you really fancy you can strap some bags to it and go on a tour without sportsbike aches all over. And to boot, it is one of the most reliable machines ever made (just beaten by MT-07). And Chris is such a fun guy to watch. :)

Although some consider this a “throwaway” bike when done with it, I love it! Engineering even went so far as to eliminate the exhaust knowing EVERYONE installs their own anyway. This is everything a rider would want, performance, practical, stout, customizable and affordable. When you crash it, not the end of the world as when you drop your $20k Triumph triple.
You really took the "Hooligan" concept to max level with this one. 😆
I absolutely despise the fact that this is going to make me sound like a fawning sycophant, but simple fact is........ Chris is without doubt the best bike reviewer on YT.

After watching this review I can never go back to watching boring reviews ever again.
Just what I needed lol, staring at my computer screen at work tryna put together a parts list for a customers 2021 KTM 1290 SDR, but seeing this made me stop because some of us can’t drop $20k plus 🥲 but still want to be a hooligan... theres this and the 890 Duke R🤷🏾♂️
Did you just leave out the SMC-R/701 Supermoto? That's ten demerits.

The headlight is actually growing on me
No offense to other reviewers who may not be as good, but Chris alone will shift enough units to more than cover that little drop. Can't wait to see how many I spot off road now 😁. Thanks as always Chris! And the race will be on to see which after market company fixes that headlight! It really is terrible and that WILL cost Yamaha sales.

Hi Chris, brilliant review, as always. I'm particularly grateful for the intentional lay-down. Very informative. Every review I see of this bike shows endless burnouts and wheelies. While I have been riding a long time (over 50 years!), I have reached a point where my body can't take all that flinging around. Do you think this bike can be ridden without all that and still be fun? PS: I'm drawn to it because it's 26KG lighter than my GSX-S1000f. Thanks again. Mike

It's good to know I can jump it and drop it considering I do a lot of that currently on my dirt bike/supermoto..... I wish more reviewers purposely crash tested the bikes! That's the kind of insight we truly need! 😂
If I'm spending 10k on a bike I have to make sure I can drop it every now and again and get back up and keep riding!

Everything about this bike just looks so dope especially the headlight with that dark mecha look….although the display could’ve been better designed like previous models

I had a we test ride on this & was a first gen' owner - i can only assure you that the new exhaust now is the best sounding ever whilst riding...much nicer looking than the 2nd gen'... `sound is great from underneath ⬆️

Having test ridden the first MT-09 I got the overwhelming sensation that it was a bike that keeps egging you on. I simply would not be able to behave myself it lol. Nice to see it's not toned down at all.
Actually to turn traction control and wheelie control off you hold the top arrow button down while being over the traction control setting and it will turn it off
Updated TFT blah blah blah....Euro 5.....blah blah blah.....IMU blah....blah.....SNORE!!!!!!! NOT CHRIS, No Sir. This guy knows what we want in a review. Hell If I wanted to hear someone read a spec sheet I'd....Who am I kidding no one cares about spec sheets. It's about the ride, the fun, and the smile that the bike puts on your face. And Chris has definitely figured out how to share that with the rest of us! Keep them coming mate!

How does this feel soaking up the bumps and offroad stuff (suspension adjusted softer) ... I'd like a decent street bike that can do light offroad stuff very comfortably and soak up the potholes and construction roads etc that present themselves on Thailand. What do u reckon as this as an allrounder, almost a scrambler with some tkc80 or other knobby tires on it?

One owner, motorcycle used for test rides, really well taken care of, all the maintenance and repairs made on time. It has few marks because of a small drop in the garage.

I'm buying one.
So what happens if you pull the ABS fuse? Does it mess with anything else? I had a 2018 MT-09 and pulled the fuse. It worked fine. I really like being able to stop the back wheel for a variety of reasons.

(Like I haven't looked at the brochure before I preordered it)

Looks a crackerjack, hooning road bike, and for the folding, right up there with some top nakeds . But, for your £10.3k + what’s the build and finish like, cause I’d like to know?

£9995 is a little steep!! The z900 has more power and is only 9k and
I only paid that for my new z1000sx with 143hp
MT10-SP would be much more appealing? Seems expensive for sub litre bike , can get a good 1290r for 10k
The mt-10 just looks more aggressive and better built in my opinion
