Hi Mark. I finally rode the SP at a Yamaha demonstration event here in the U.S. Fantastic bike!!! The high engine performance is matched with perfect balance and great suspension. So much bike for the money! I was not even considering the MT-09 SP as my next bike until I saw your review. I am going to purchase one soon. Thanks again for all of your great work!!!

As ever, a great review Mark! I test rode the 1st gen and hated it. The throttle set up was terrible, so jerky and found the suspension very poor and seat really uncomfortable and the build quality wasn't great. Why Yamaha let a bike go on sale with the issues it had, was not a great customer experience and the 1st MT07 was much the same. This gen sounds so much better and I will get round to going for a test ride one day soon. From watching your review, this bike is could be one of the best naked bikes to buy for the money. Thanks for another brilliant detailed honest review.

Excellent review Mark! I love your enthusiasm and your real world bike reviews! Based on this, as well as Toad Hancock's review, I am pretty much sold on the SP. Was considering the Z900, which is bargain, but as a shorter rider, it looked very difficult to implement bar back / risers without serious modification to the TFT mounting hardware and did not like the foot peg placement that jabbed into my calves at stops. Seems worth the cost compared to the Z. Shad hard cases are available for the 2020 MT 09 and the Z, so I hope they will be for the 21 SP. Bike not available here in the US yet, but should be by the end of May.
Thanks for all of your excellent reviews!

Hello Mark. A few weeks ago I commented on how well made your video reviews are. I had recently purchased a 2020 MT 03 thanks in large part to your review. Shortly thereafter I saw your review of the 2021 MT09 SP and was blown away by the sheer beauty of your camera work as well as the high marks you gave the bike. I wanted to see one in person but there were none within 200 miles of me. Was told by a dealer 100 miles away that I could reserve one but they had no idea when it would be available. Lo and behold I walk into my local dealership (5 miles away!) yesterday and what do I see! A brand spanking new 2021 MT09 SP. Woooohoooo!. So light. And pretty. And available. In reality my skill level has not yet advanced to the point of justifying owning an 09. And I really don't want to part with my MT03. It's cool little machine. But I'm going to have a lot of sleepless nights until I can buy the SP. Please, for my sake, don't do a long term review of this thing. I'll be divorced and homeless........

I owned a 2019 MT-09 for a year. And i loved everything except the suspension. This is Absolutely an upgrade from that and i love the updates, except the headlight. Back then, the SP was basically better suspension, and little else. But i hear people who test both the 2021 MT-09 and the 2021 MT-09 SP say there is much less difference between the suspension. It's the other stuff that makes it worth it new. I just can't stand the new headlight. Makes the bike look like a "Goomba" from the "Super Mario Bros" movie when viewed from the side. I hear people say "it'll grow on you". But the is no way i'll ever like or even accept those headlights. Great review as ever though💖💖👏🏼👏🏼

Don't be so rigid. See it in person. Could've been worse, could've been dual headlights with only one for low beam and the other for high, like in their new Tracer 9 GT; now that is a disgraceful way for them to cut cost...and it made me look away...

Watched this a second time because I think it's time to get my final big bike. The 390 is a great bike, but there is enough room on some of the roads in Thailand to justify an 09, and then there's the effortless tractability you get with triples. I have considered all sorts of bikes but the light weight of the MT sells it to me. I even like the headlight.
    Great review.

Like yourself, I'm looking for that last bike. Major back issues are dictating that I get a smaller, lighter bike with enough grunt to keep me smiling every time I ride it. Have ridden the MT 09, will test ride the SP version when my dealer gets one in. Looking forward to also checking out the new XSR900 in the flesh as well. have fun with the SP if you decide to get it.

Really like the 2021 Yamaha MT 09 sport. Your review was top class. Rear hugger a problem if you live north of the border with all rain and muck on the road. It would wipe out the rear shock and rear suspension in a couple of years. A small screen at the front would be a bonus. Cheers and ride safe......:)

Great review Mark. This sounds like a cracking bike but I'm not keen [yes you guessed] on that headlight. The paintwork/colour scheme on the SP is a cut above the base model and I love those blue wheels. This class is now full of great bikes and it's about to get even tougher with the arrival of the all new super lightweight Ducati 950 Monster. But the bike that's caught my attention is the updated Honda CB1000R [yes I know it's a full fat litre class bike] but my god it looks just incredible. The black edition is just insane looking and the fit and finish is in a class of it's own and those new wheels, wow. Anyway any chance of a test and review of the black edition any time soon would be much appreciated. Take care mate and ride safe.

Thanks for the review Mark. It my help me solve a nice dilemma. Last year I was looking for a fun daily ride and weekend bike and tried the 2020 MT09, CB1000R, Z900 and XSR900. At that time I simply was not fully convinced to invest £10k so went for a cheaper wild card option and bought a 1990 GPZ900R (I had owned one in the 90’s). I absolutely love it but am putting a lot of miles on what is essentially a collectors bike. I would like another more modern bike with sensible power and good grunt. Having seen your review and a couple of others this could be it. I will be looking to test ride one as soon as I can. The headlight has become less of problem and if I want people to admire my bike i’ll get the GPZ out! Look forward to your next review, keep them coming😎

I owned a 2018 mt09 fully modded but switched to a gsxs1000 2018 this year. I found the gsxs to be a better bike in comparison. Smoother, better planted, not jerky. Basically, i didn't like that the previous mt09 lack of refinement and the gsxs1000 platform in my opinion is better. Now seeing your video and analysis, it seems that the new Mt 09 is more refined, modern and offer a better experience than the new gsxs1000. Blasting again Mark, love this video, though, as you know, in my past comments ( I do apologise for abuse...not really meant, forgive me please..) you do have the habit of repeating words!!! But I think that's your likeability now, I really do like you, and would some day enjoy a chat with you. Keep it up, Stay Alive... Be a Man.

Ooh tough choice as they are both five star bikes ...but I'd go for the mt09 sp. I like cruise control and it's engine is awesome cheers mark

I basically have 8k ish and love the grey standard but would you say it's worth holding out to get this SP edition 😁

Hi Alex only if cruise control is important to you ... otherwise I'd get the base model ...it's still going to be just as much fun ,!

I am getting the regular mt 09, Mark. The tracer 9 is a bit awkward for me to handle at this point. The 09 is more manageable for me

I tried one today at the mcn festival, thought it was a little on the small side... what have been the more spacious nakeds you have ridden?

Hi Tony no sadly not ...try something like an mt03 mt07 first to get your skills up for the first crucial couple of years then move on to something like this cheers mark
