      Hey use fenugreek and yogurt for ur hair. This is the best medicine. Very few people know about this wonderful medicine. Try it. I used it and results are 😘. And coming to shampoo if you get a chance, get soapnuts and boil them in hot water and get the juice and use it. Before using soapnuts shampoo, apply oil to ur hair atleadt 2 hours before(lukewarm oil). Trust me u will never have any hair problems. Believe me it's nature's gift. I started using the free and clear after watching this video and have been using it for about 3 weeks with COMPLETE resolution of my dandruff and itchy scalp. It’s been really really bad for about 2 years but I’ve had dandruff forever and it has always really bothered me, nothing has helped even ketoconazole shampoo from my derm. It was pretty embarrassing and I was always checking my scalp/hair in the mirror plus I was really irritated and itchy. But literally have had completely clear and itch free scalp since after the first few uses. Thank you so much for the recommendation this has made a huge improvement in my life and it’s not even expensive at all. I’m also on a fragrance binge thanks to this channel in all of my skincare

    I stopped using sulfate shampoos. I used a mix of African Black soap, tea tree oil and aloe Vera juice to cure my dandruff and I have 4C hair. Just use it every time you wash your hair and it will go away. Well, this method worked for me, anyway.

    You should comment on the relation between the scalp, hair and pH.
    The research conducted in 2014 by the institute of dermatology in Rio De Janeiro had some very interesting findings about the relation between the pH of a product and its effect on your scalp and hair.
    It would explain a lot, and I even tested out the theory on myself with confirming results, shockingly.
    I'd be interested in your take on it.

    Thank you for this video Dr. Dray, as always. I have a little bit of dandruff and a little bit of inflammation of my scalp and some hair loss, and after watching all your related videos, I chose Zinc pyrithione as the ingredient for my concerns (please correct me if I am wrong). I went to the store to buy the Jason Dandruff treatment Shampoo but when I read the ingredients it says Salycilic Acid, and then found the Jason Shampoo & Conditioner 2 in 1 has Zinc. I listened you said in one of your videos that you don't recommend using 2 in 1 Shampoo & Conditioner products for your hair. But in this case, since the 2 in 1 has zinc (what I think should be good) do you think is good idea to buy it. Do you think I could use it? Thank you.

    hi dr dray, you probably will never see this comment, just wanted to let you know how one of your product recommendations has changed my hair/life. selsun blue (i bought the medicated one) with 1% selenium sulfide... i used to have dandruff that was both so itchy and so embarrassing. it sounds silly, but it really affected how i felt about myself and my confidence level. i bought selsun blue, and it's been 3 days (pray i don't get tachyphylaxis or anything like that) my scalp is so happy! no dandruff, no itch. and without even using conditioner, my hair shaft is also much smoother, to me it looks like i've gone for hair treatment! just wanted to thank you so much.

    So helpful! Now I understand why coconut oil causes an awful reaction on my scalp, burning; itching and later flaking (this is probably more severe than just 'dandruff, seems like some kind of allergic rxn, so I'm trying to avoid the stuff. It was worse than bleach! Very frustrating b/c it seems like 90% of hair products now (especially those marketed for dry, curly hair) have coconut oil in them, even if they don't call themselves a "coconut oil" containing product. For example, Shea Moisture's "Shea Butter" conditioner has coconut oil as the second (or third) ingredient. For anyone interested, it is often listed as 'cocas nucifera oil', the coconut palm. Cocamidopropyl betaine is a derivative from coconut oil. i am finding it hard to find hair products WITHOUT one of these ingredients. Cocomide MEA/DEA is another common coconut oil derivative used. I notice this is in the Selsun blue, so anyone coconut sensitive might want to avoid this one. It is interesting, I come across a lot of anecdotal reports of people complaining of burning and itching with these substances. I can imagine derms are seeing a lot more patients with itchy, flaky scalps! I'm excited to try to Vanicare products, they make a conditioner also that sounds great, no crap in it. All these "natural" hair products seem to be the worst offenders! Sodium Laureth Sulfide and it's cousins are now maligned by the hair gurus, but that doesn't bother me nor make a difference with my hair. I bet a lot of people are bothered by other ingredients and blaming that. I do much better with plain old detergent on my head :)
    A big study determined Cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB) is NOT a "skin sensitizer" based on patch tests with the product (.www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21392028 ) I swear it makes my scalp itchy. After reading some more studies, it seems that the true allergens might be some intermediaries in the production of the CAPB, which are likely present in commercial products, but not in the ultra pure form used in the study. This makes sense to me, so people may be reacting to commercial products with 'CAPB' in them.
    Thanks again for setting us straight.. I never had dandruff, but have had flakiness recently. no doubt caused by all the oils the 'hair gurus' are suggesting i put on my head.. and i've been trying to get rid of the flakiness by putting on more oils..... :D :D
    Argg..i just read a blog about how coconut oil would make a good "natural sunscreen'. It is really scary how much blatant misinformation is on the IN. Education is so important. I know another long comment, but not many folks I figure might be interested in my nerdy science talk.. :D

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  6 лет назад +1

      CAPB allergy is pretty common...people like ....the allergy to it does not necessarily mean you are allergic to coconut oil

    • @oliviad6713
      @oliviad6713 6 лет назад

      Hmm, well my scalp does not seem to like either.! Could it be I've become more sensitive to the CAPB over time? After using a shampoo and conditioner without, I just used some old shampoo with it for the heck of it, and as the day went on, my scalp got itchier and itchier. When I put straight coconut oil on my scalp, it was much more intense, woke up in the night with my head on fire :D. Maybe that was more sensitivity, instense, I would say. That Vanicare Clear and free shampoo looks really good I'm going to try that one (I noticed they also make a non dandruff one without CAPB.
      I noticed Eucerin just put out a slew of products without CAPB geared toward different issues, one atopic dermatitis, so maybe companies are catching on. I'd sad that all SA and and the PanOxyl Contain in. It doesn't seem to bother me on my skin that I know of, just that scalp. Is it possible to just have a scalp limited sensitivity? (maybe it is just less noticeable in the skin). By my logic, it seems like if it irritates my scalp, my skin may become more sensitized with continued use. Anyway, psychologically I want to avoid it. Anyway, the coconut/CABP seem to flare up a SB type reaction in me anyway. I am just grateful to have found your videos to help understand and try to resolve this. I can't believe how irritated my scalp is and it seems like the most likely culprit. I believe I was setting myself up also by not washing my hair enough. Recently. That no poo movement is nonsense, lol.
      Oh, I have no problem ingesting coconut or coconut oil :) I'll best enjoy it that way.

    Thank you!! For me it's only on my scalp where my hair is. Itchy and dry on the scalp. I started noticing I was drying out my hair shampooing all the time. So I stopped shampooing for almost a year. My hair felt less dry and better within a few months. I would only use conditioners to clean my hair until like 3 months ago. Then about 3 months ago I would apply coconut oil to my hair every 3-4 days. Did this for awhile and would wash out the oil with conditioner or shampoo sometimes but then noticed it felt silkier if I didnt wash it out and just rinsed it out. Did that for a month then bamn itchy scalp and hairs shedding alot. Now I know my dandruff is from coconut oil and not washing out the oil and my own oils.

    One thing to keep in mind if you use anti dandruff shampoo is that it strips hair color like crazy, so if you do color your hair, try and avoid rubbing it into the lengths of the hair. If you use a semi or demi permanent color that fades quickly anyway, apply conditioner on the lengths before you shampoo to protect it even more from stripping when the shampoo rinses through it.

    My son thought he had Dandruff so I bought him Head and Shoulders. He hated the smell! LOL. I think his flakiness was from using too much regular shampoo and not rinsing it out well enough. I have that type of dermatitis on my face but my skin is dry as a desert and extremely sensitive. Around the nose and mouth is the worst, it is so red and dry, it hurts and is flaky when it starts to heal (it never fully heals, it has been raw for over a year), it feels as if I had exfoliated with a plumice stone. I wash with Boderma Sensibio face wash (the pink one) and I constantly use Avene thermal water and Tolerance extreme emulsion. I try to touch my face the least posible. I can't even use sunscreen (I have tried so many sunscreens for sensitive skin and all of them feel like stomach acid on my face and worsen the redness and irritation). I feel so depressed because the combination of Avene products used to heal me but not anymore. I also used Fisiogel A.I. lotion in combination with Avene products and it helped, but it is discontinued. I have seen many dermatologists and none of their treatments helped me, beside from what I mentioned.
    For my scalp I use Petal Fresh Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner, and I use La Roche Posay Kerium DS shampoo a few times a month and my scalp is doing fine.

    Appreciate answers
    Today it´s very common to exfoliate the face and to stimulate new cellgrow to look younger. And I have tried to find the answer somewhere but have not succeded. When you look in to cellpromoting product and treatments that active increase the cellturnover, it always says that new healthy cells will come to the surface. But this also mean that the body would be able to create endless of healthy cells - this sounds good. Almost too good to be true.
    But what about the fact that cells actually ages everytime they replace eathother.
    "Telomeres are stretches of DNA and proteins at the ends of our chromosomes. Each time a cell divides, these stretches naturally get shorter. Once telomere length reaches a particular cut-off point, the cell becomes senescent, meaning that it can no longer divide and will subsequently die."
    Would this mean that everytime you exfoliate or stimulate the skin to produce new cells, they also age faster beacuse of the shorter telomers? My question is if exfoliatation and cellpromoting treatments in the long term actually make your skin age faster or if its really "anti-aging".
    Kindly regards.

    Why would using 3% salicylic acid shampoo make my flaking and itching worse??? I used DHS shampoo and saw even more flakes, I've tried Dermarest and that too doesn't help. I leave it on for the 5 minutes. I've used Nizoral and that helps a little better but not enough. I've heard spraying diluted apple cider vinegar can help but I have found it very drying and lightens my hair color.

  • @anthonyperkins7556
    @anthonyperkins7556 4 года назад +9

    In many cases, the type of
    shampoo you use and your hairwashing routine does play a part in its effectiveness on your dandruff condition.
    Shampoos containing zinc pyrithione like Head and Shoulders and in medicated shampoos, ingredients like salicylic acid contained in Vosene medicated shampoo here in the UK, or piroctone olamine contained in Wilko medicated shampoo or indeed other brands of medicated shampoo can, with regular use, can be effective at controlling dandruff.
    Warm, not hot, water is recommended to wet and rinse your hair as it dissolves the grease and oil build up from your hair, scalp and roots, and I find that if you leave anti dandruff or medicated shampoo on your scalp after lathering well for 2-3 minutes afterwards, which allows the ingredients to work on your hair and scalp, it rinses totally clean away leaving the hair and scalp flake free.
    Allow the hair to dry naturally as excessive heat from a hairdryer can cause natural oils from the sebaceous glands to flow back into the hair and cause flaking as it dries out.
    If you are going to use a hairdryer after a shampoo with anti dandruff shampoo or medicated shampoo, use a cool setting on your hairdryer to avoid oiliness and flaking.

    Hi Dr.Dray. Another great video and pretty relevant. I had a major out break of dandruff during my final year of medical school and it really exacerbated during the following couple of years. Big chunks of half a centimeter flakes were peeling off near the hairline and the sides of the nose ending up shiny and got discolored near the front hairline. When I consulted a few dermatologists at the hospital they just said it was seborrheic dermatitis and nothing else. Was hoping it was something else so I could get an easier fix. Got prescribed a medicated shampoo with ketoconazole as the active ingredient . Couldn’t read the rest of the ingredients since it wasn’t in English. Along with that I got prescribed an ointment of olive oil and fluocinolone acitonide mix which I kinda forgot how frequently I was supposed to use lol. Anyways , sorry for rambling but what’s your take on hair conditioners. Should it be avoided for people with dandruff?

    Hi Dr. Dray, if someone (like me) has a tendency towards seb. derm. especially on the scalp do they also have a increased tendency for tinea versicolor discolorations on their skin? Sometimes I wonder if my melasma on my face could be tinea versicolor and not melasma at all, as I have never had a baby nor been on birth control (I know you can still get melasma without ever those, but its less common I think?).
    I also wanted to give a comment on what has improved my dandruff after trying many things through the years. I try to wash every 2-3 days (i have curly frizzy hair so I like to wash as little as possible for my hair stands...) but I rotate between 3 different dandruff shampoos, so each time I wash I use a different shampoo. Each shampoo has a different active ingredient to treat dandruff. This, thus far, in my battle against seb. derm. has been the longest running streak of almost no issues. I also try to keep my conditioner from touching my scalp at all because if it does I get itchy, flakes, and sometimes bumps in that spot until I wash my hair the next time.
    Thank you!

    • @Jaysoo7

      Hi, i’ve seen a comment that has mentioned hair loss/hair falling out. I would only recommend using a dandruff shampoo everyday only when you’re starting to use the formula. Otherwise afterwards I would use it every 2-3 times per week, to reduce drying/hair loss.
      Personally i’ve used Head and Shoulders in the pass but it’s never worked for me, only made my dandruff come back. I would recommend using Nizoral w Ketoconazole or the Selsun Blue Naturals Itchy Dry Scalp w Salicylic Acid.
      Nizoral is especially potent against my dandruff and really seems to clean my scalp, I use it along a dandruff scrubber brush thing I got off amazon and it gets the job done. 🤝
      Selsun Blue Naturals also offers the same benefits as the Nizoral shampoo. And Both don’t dry your scalp nor have a risk of hair loss.
      This could very tho as I have thick hair, maybe certain hair types could be different but I have heard from Nizoral reviews that a persons hair was growing back while using Nizoral.
      Nizoral is $18.99 &
      Selsun Blue is $6.99 bout half the price of the Nizoral shampoo 🤝

    Is there or could there be any correlation between the bacteria that naturally exists in fermented foods and the malice fungal bacteria found on our skin? (foods such as greek yogurt, sauerkraut etc) Or what about the mushroom family? I have noticed I seem to have uncontrollable fungal infection problems whenever I have a significant amount of mushrooms in my diet. (when I was a kid and first learned to love mushrooms I seems to struggle a lot with planters warts) When I completely cut mushrooms out of my diet for many years, my wart problem left just as quickly and never returned. However, I have since adopted a vegan life style and reintroduced mushrooms as my favourite meat substitute , AND NOW I have this fungal dandruff on my scalp and body !! 🤯 I strongly believe there has to be a correlation there. So I’ve been treating my dandruff problem accordingly and staying away from mushrooms now but now I’m wondering if I should be worried at all about probiotics in fermented foods because I love sauerkraut
