It's always somewhat refreshing to hear somebody talk about real life, with tight budgets and whatnot and how it can actually affect gaming setups. Is this the best rig? No, of course not and that was never the intention. But for the price/performance it easily beats my current 4790k/980ti rig and for the layperson who just wants to check their email, watch RUclips videos, and play an occasional game of Rocket League they probably wouldn't even be able to tell the difference on a standard 60hz monitor anyway.
This is one of the best PC tech channels on RUclips. Their videos are practical and highly informational. I'm sure this video has helped a lot of people. I went with Palit GT 1030 and it has really transformed my Dell Inspiron 620s into a gaming beast. I'm loving it. So far the best upgrade for a PC that old.
did u added external PSU? i have the same pc and ppl from Toms Hardware told me i wont be able to go far than 1030gt cause its the only one with 35W TDP.. how did u managed to get 1050 and 1050ti?

Excellent video. This is not only a great budget build video, but I love how in depth your benchmarks are. I have yet to see another channel actually include Low/Medium/High/Very High/Ultra settings FPS differences. They typically pick one setting that works best(medium for example), and perform the benchmark on all GPUs in the test and leave it at that.
Good project, especially because these old business PC's are very easy to find. So anyone can build a very good low end gaming pc for very little money

These old office pc's can offer quite a nice value, but i personally do not recommend a hp elite 8200 series because they use propietary mobo power connectors which means you can't upgrade the psu. Dell and Fujitsu pc's are better choice for a budget gaming build.
I agree, I just got a cheap dell optiplex 790 with very similar specs as in the video (I5-2400, 6gigram, 500gighdd), and the non-proprietary 24 pin was part of my decision-makes a much easier upgrade path..my original plan was a low profile gpu but I'm already thinking of ditching the sff case and going with a tower style case and full size graphics card etc.
The machine was probably held back by the GPU in games thus not allowing maximum cpu performance, but no figures of the utilisation of each component was displayed on screen so this is just a guess.
Excellent video Phil, up to your usual standards. More of these ex-"work" PCs are making it onto the used market so repurposing them for home productivity / gaming is apparently viable and worthwhile. You definitely deserve more subs, too.
Great video! You put in a lot work into this! I had the 8200 with a 750 ti, 8 gigs of ram with a HDD. Then when the 1050 ti came out I bought that, got 16 gigs of ram and an SSD. I’ve since moved on to much better hardware but that machine started my love for PCs.
FikerzZ Gaming It’s a great gaming pc for 1080p high to ultra settings at 60 FPS. I have a Ryzen 5 with a 980 TI now. I gave that pc away to a younger relative and he still uses it daily to play AAA titles perfectly. We play PUBG together and he’s better than me lol. Search performance videos of the pc on RUclips many channels have done videos on that exact setup. It doesn’t leave much to be desired.

i have similar machine dell 990sff with I5 2500, 8gb ram, gtx 1050ti and it plays almost every game @ medium settings on full hd monitor! thanks for the nice video!
A similar low budget machine would be the Lenovo Thinkcentre Edge 71 and 72, they both use the same "IH61M" µATX socket 1155 motherboards with the H61 chipset and both exist in tower or SFF format. The tower allows for easy upgrades and would accept the i7 3770 for the best potential and not risking to be CPU limited with high end graphics cards. The main issues with those I would say is they only have two RAM slots, and only 170W PSUs. The one in my µATX Edge 72 is made by AcBel and was actually dead when I got it. But I put a standard ATX PSU with no problem. I'm not sure what format the PSU is in the SFF but it looks like SFX. It's made by Liteon. The HP 8200 has a stronger PSU but in a weird format which would make remplacement complicated.
I have the same pc in the video, 1050ti using the stock i5 processor and i face wattage problems with some games, the screen blinks like its turning off and on and i think its because the GPU isn't reviving enough juice
BRO THANK GOD, I fr was trying to upgrade my pc to a better graphics card but i ran to the wall because of the power supply. I have the same computer shown in this video and im trying to upgrade to a gt 730. (not much but makes a huge difference) Once i found this video i was so happy that you said its no problem at all

This is a great video & topic! There's tons of these old office PCs that go on the scrap heap every day, which is such a shame seeing they could still provide decent performance. I must commend you on the beautiful graphs. Very simple and easy to follow, and they clearly show where the value is to be had. You did an awesome job on those, kudos! :) This is definitely where budget shopping should be at; repurposing old hardware. Far too many people don't think and go buy a crippled Ryzen 3 or something similar, when you could easily get both better performance and value by looking at older PCs and add some intelligent upgrades. The Ti's seem to be all at like £160 right now, but I rescued one of these old SFF 8200s with the i5 2500 CPU from the scrap pile at work so got the cheaper 1030 for £70. After seeing this I'm thinking of upgrading to a 1050ti if any come up in the sales.
I did the same exact Upgrade on my HP 8200 SFF Elite Pro - 2 1TB SSD`s , One for system , one for music, photos, Videos ect. I play Need For Speed -Most Wanted (2005) Black Edition PC on mine ..much fun !!
I sold a dozen of 8200 and 8300 in 2018 and upgraded most of them with a 1030 for some casual gaming and multimedia. Its interesting to see that someone else had the same idea :) I put the SSD below the ODD to keep the HDD in those systems for storage.

Nice one Phill, enjoyed the video :) I have an interesting idea that may suit your channel, in the same way Linus/LTT did 7 gamers 1PC it would be ultra cool to see a 2 gamers 1 pc budget version, perhaps the SFF would be no good as you need 2 gfx cards but with an i7, 2 x 1050/30's and 32GB RAM it seems like it would be a simple accomplishment and a very interesting video, I wonder just how cheap it could be done.
Remember that you need a hypervisor to runn both systems on. (If your idea is similar to what Linus did in hos 7 gamer,1 compuer build. They used unRAID which has a 30 day trail and the besic version priced at $59)
Nice idea... I would like to see it too... but the CPU needs to support Virtualization AND the ability to Pass-through the hardware (Intel chip needs vt-x and vt-d) I am unsure about early i5 as well as early i7... however, I have a 2 gamers, 1 CPU setup with unraid on my i7 gen 3 (i7 3770) using an Nvidia GTX 750ti and a GT X750 (older GPU's will have problems due to lack of UEFI support) ...@PhilsComputerLab, I am also in Australia :P
yep, both 2nd gen i5/7's support VT-x ark.intel.com/products/52213/Intel-Core-i7-2600-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz I am actually fairly sure they have since the i7-950 time as I was using them for Xen PV/HVM back then in 2011. I imagine Phil already has all the kit he needs laying around, a motherboard with 2 x 16x PCIe slots would be a big advantage though, the i7 would be better than the i5 so that way you can pin 2 physical and 2 logical cores/4threads to each virtual desktop environment for performance. I have plenty of experience in this sort of thing, just not the gaming rig side of things so if you do want to make this video and need any assistance feel free to hit me up.
I agree with using older CPUs with way more powerful GPUs, when the next generation of GPUs releases, then running a Navi or 1180t/2600ki, will generate better framerates than using a 1080ti with a Lake CPU.(at least close enough). So if you like your processor, than keep it and just keep upgrading the GPU.
There're a lot of cheap options like this . i3 + 1030 + 4gb ram - i5 + gtx 1050 and 8gb ram or i7 and 1050ti.. I really like this type of pc. Great video.
You could even install the SSD underneath the CDROM, and use a bracket to make it fit the 3,5" slot. This way you could keep both storage devices. The mainboard features 4 SATA connections, and even has RAID. Great little machine....
Hey, I just wanted to know what happened to your PC after use. I know that the PSU is 240 watts and the graphics card is 300 watts and I just wanted to know if your PC is okay. I got the same specs and I realized after ordering the GPU that it needs 300 watts. Cheers!
I know im super late, but i'll respond anyway. Don't worry about the PSU with only a 1050ti. You could overclock it and in a few drives and it would still be fine. Personally, I run a RX 470 which is even more power hungry than the gtx 1060 and while I do have to downclock it a bit, the PSU is still going strong even after some abuse.
I have the tower version of this desktop. Same specs, just bigger. It's currently running. GTX 2080 (Was running a 1080 until recently), has 24GB of RAM, upgraded 600 Watt PSU, 1 500GB hard drive, 1 4TB external HDD, And a 250GB SSD. Almost every single triple A game even now is able to run at 50-60 fps on ultra settings at 1440p. Even demanding games like RDR2 run perfect at maxed settings. I built the entire thing for 400 bucks. The set up even runs VR smoothly with my Meta Quest 2
I have the desktop version of the 8200 (with the i7-2600). I've since upgraded everything so the only thing left is literally the case, lol (I like the simple, solid HP design). I had the 2600 paired with a r9 380 and 32GB ram (only because I got a good deal on the ram used - 16GB would have been plenty) and a 256GB SSD. It was great for a couple of years and only recently upgraded. For those wondering about upgrading to a standard ATX powersupply, you can buy adapter cables on ebay for a few dollars BUT be careful to check the wiring before using it. The one I bought had one of the mobo plugs wired incorrectly but it was easy to fix by comparing it to the original PSU wiring. These motherboards don't only have unconventional power sockets, they also have changes to the voltage (standby is +12v, not +5v) so a voltage booster is needed to get them working with a regular PSU, even if you do the wiring yourself.
Sorry I'm not too knowledgeable on this, but when HP's website says 8200 SSD up to 160gb are they referring to the versions they sell? Or is the "SSD up to 160gb" the max amount of SSD capacity you can install on this 8200? I noticed he mentioned his 3rd recommended upgrade up to 240gb and also a lot of people here in the comments mention to upgrade it to 256gb SSD. So I can install any GB amount of SSD? Or does it have a limit? Thank you for any help you can provide.
These setups can be had real cheap nowadays as well. Recently refurbished a hp 8300 (nearly identical except pcie gen 3 and USB 3.0 native support i believe) for a friend who needed something for his TAFE work. i5-3470, 8GB's RAM, 128GB SSD, 1TB Harddrive, Wifi Card and even a blu ray drive for 230 bucks including mouse keyboard and a 27inch 1080p IPS monitor. Lets just say he's one very happy camper. and if he changes his mind and wants to game a bit I can slap a graphics card in there no problem.
I work at an apple store and my eyes have recently been opened to the beauty of being able to upgrade PCs like the HP 6200 I just bought for $30. Cannot wait to start making some upgrades and recording music on this beast! Thank you for your videos!! 🖤✨

After I upgraded the RAM to 20GB in my HP 8200, it seemed to get stuck in a suspend state and would refuse to boot until I removed all DIMMs, powered on the machine, waited for the error beeps and powered off, then reinstalled them. Upgrading the BIOS to the latest version fixed this issue.
Great video, your video is exactly what I needed. I am currently building a value gaming pc from a HP Elitedesk 800 SFF with i5-4570, 8GB ram, 240GB SSD and thinking of the low profile gtx 1050ti and the low profile gtx 1650. They are very close in price now, and seeing them between $AUD 259 to $AUD 329. I too would be interested in a review of the GTX 1650 low profile. Really enjoying what you're doing in these videos.
Fantastic content. This was extremely helpful. The prices on the components have come down in the last year, and are cheaper here state side than they are in Oz. I believe this will be my next build.

cheers mate! Managed to pick up two HP elite machines recently, one for my girlfriend & another for her roomate. We salvaged some extra RAM(8 GBs) for each PC & two SSDs, along with the 500GB HDDs that the computers come with. Was really concerned if the PCs would handle a 1050 or if we'd have to stoop to a 1030 due to the power draw. Really put my mind on ease with this video! They'll mostly be using the PCs for productivity tasks, such as PS, Word & general browsing, but hopefully with this setup, I can introduce them to some games aswell ;)
I'm running the same computer and the I7 gave it a nice kick in the pants as well as the ram. I put a RS 230 card in it, meh. A1050 ti would only geve me %660 more video power. Thank you for showing me the power supply can keep up.

Thank you so much for this video. I am limited in terms of money but I am looking to get into PC gaming. I had heard that a SFF PC like the 8200 was the best way to get into it for a decent price, but nobody else had made a video as comprehensive as yours which discussed the best compatible GPUs. Your comments on the CPU in particular were very helpful, since I was wondering whether to upgrade the stock i5 it comes with (an i5 - 2500 in my case). After seeing your video I don't think I'll bother with a new CPU for gaming and just stick to slapping a 1050 ti in there and adding some RAM. These types of videos are a good counter to the argument that PC gaming has to be incredibly expensive. Since a build like this would be around £600-£700 for a premade PC, it's good to know that if you do it this way it can be done for less than £300 even with a 1050 ti (new 1050 ti is £150 in the UK). I was one of the long time console owners that thought those premade prices were representative of the cost of PC gaming before I dug a little deeper, so I'm glad channels such as yours are around to help new people like me out.
Which 1050ti is it? I have no clue if the Zotac one would fit or not, I've spent 5 HOURS trying to figure out but literally I can't find the answer ANYWHERE! I just want to know if the damn Zotac GTX 1050ti low profile would fit inside this PC like the Gigabyte and MSI ones do too.
Reminds me of my first modern PC (which was modern at its time, and could actually go into the internet.). I bought it in 2009 and it is an IBM Thinkcentre M55 SFF PC with 1 GB of RAM, integrated video and the C2D E4300. I upgraded it to the highest possible specs: i tape-modded the 4300 to 2.4 Ghz, which is about the same as the E6600, which was the best CPU for this machine, newer duos and / or quads don't work because it has a very old chipset, upgraded the RAM to 16GB and I even put in a GT210 which I modded to PCIe x1, because X16 cards don't fit. It worked great for older games :) Even if many people hate the GF210, and it is iconic for its low performance, it was great at its time, like the GT1030 is now, because most games ran well on low settings on a 1024 monitor.
I have a friend with that system and he has a Low Profile GTX1650 in it with an I7-3770K 16GB of Ram. Its interesting how you both very similar upgrades. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 👍🙂👍
These HP Elite 8200s are everywhere online, especially eBay. I was thinking about getting one for my grandma so it's good to know that it's quite upgrade-able :)
Hi Phil , more good work, you never cease to amaze me with average 3 to 4 videos a week My HP8200, i added the same Gigabyte GT130 with the fan, but initially i ran the passively cooled one because it was available in my local PC store, that one is now in my Lenovo SFF My PC like most came with the 4g ram and 250g HDD which is fine, but i found in the spares cupboard another 4g ram, so i have total of 8g The HDD remained but under the CD rom is a disk tray, i added a 2T hard drive as D drive. The only issue was to get a ebay double adapter for the power interface as the factory one was a few inches short, also there is a sequence of the SATA ports as to what they run The special hard drive mounting screws are behind the front facia, there are 4 or 8 of them screwed in the panel near the power switch Primary sata hdd dark blue sata0 Secondary sata hdd light blue sata1 First optical sata white sata2 Second optical sata black sata3 Overall still happy, and with added graphics and second HDD there is no power shortage On the wish list is a USB 3, for some reason my USB 2 speeds are 6-10mbs , my lenovo USB 2 speed is 30-50 mbs and USB 3 fluctuates 120-40mbs Amazon USA has new power suppliers for these at @$30 but they dont ship to Australia, also i really have not found a ATX to SFF power adapter or a external laptop brick that will work if the proprietary power supply dies. Most brand names eg Dell , HO , Lenovo j have proprietary cases , mother boards and power suppliers, so you cant guarantee a generic ATX ( or BTX ) will work - even the full towers, at work all desktops are Dell and they are 90% all proprietary power supply and mother board connectors The reality is at this bargain price, you would not really buy a new case or main board or power supply, just replace it with a exact model or the newwr I7 model Regards George

Had a 8200 SFF with an i7-2600 and 8GB of memory lying around, and I just bought a 1050 Ti after seeing that the powersupply can handle it. Thanks a lot for your video. Really looking forward to upgrade this thing into a small sleeper gaming device.
If you dun care having second psu outside the pc case, and gutting the case a bit, I used tin snip to cut the metal on back of the case, then put full height gpu, then used second psu and used paper small piece of wire to jumper second psu and used its pcie power cable. I just flip the back power switch on second psu, then turn on my main hp elite like normall, and now I can power larger gpu.
I am watching this on my HP 8200 with the i5 2500, 8 GBs of RAM and the GT 1030. So far I am very happy with it. Nice to know I can upgrade without a problem to a 1050 or 1050 Ti if I find a good deal on one.

I wasn't able to get low profile card, so I used a PCIe riser cable. But the prices shown are for low profile cards.

Most of SFF PCs use proprietary connectors on the mobo, however you can easily get an adaptor for a few bucks.

it was for 8200 series, it gave power to the pc because fans were spinning, but it just didn't boot.

Great video! You put in a lot work into this! I had the 8200 with a 750 ti, 8 gigs of ram with a HDD. Then when the 1050 ti came out I bought that, got 16 gigs of ram and an SSD. I’ve since moved on to much better hardware but that machine started my love for PCs.

FikerzZ Gaming It’s a great gaming pc for 1080p high to ultra settings at 60 FPS. I have a Ryzen 5 with a 980 TI now. I gave that pc away to a younger relative and he still uses it daily to play AAA titles perfectly. We play PUBG together and he’s better than me lol. Search performance videos of the pc on RUclips many channels have done videos on that exact setup. It doesn’t leave much to be desired.

i have similar machine dell 990sff with I5 2500, 8gb ram, gtx 1050ti and it plays almost every game @ medium settings on full hd monitor!

A similar low budget machine would be the Lenovo Thinkcentre Edge 71 and 72, they both use the same "IH61M" µATX socket 1155 motherboards with the H61 chipset and both exist in tower or SFF format. The tower allows for easy upgrades and would accept the i7 3770 for the best potential and not risking to be CPU limited with high end graphics cards.
The main issues with those I would say is they only have two RAM slots, and only 170W PSUs. The one in my µATX Edge 72 is made by AcBel and was actually dead when I got it. But I put a standard ATX PSU with no problem.
I'm not sure what format the PSU is in the SFF but it looks like SFX. It's made by Liteon.
The HP 8200 has a stronger PSU but in a weird format which would make remplacement complicated.
I have the same pc in the video, 1050ti using the stock i5 processor and i face wattage problems with some games, the screen blinks like its turning off and on and i think its because the GPU isn't reviving enough juice

There's tons of these old office PCs that go on the scrap heap every day, which is such a shame seeing they could still provide decent performance.

This is definitely where budget shopping should be at; repurposing old hardware. Far too many people don't think and go buy a crippled Ryzen 3 or something similar, when you could easily get both better performance and value by looking at older PCs and add some intelligent upgrades.

The Ti's seem to be all at like £160 right now, but I rescued one of these old SFF 8200s with the i5 2500 CPU from the scrap pile at work so got the cheaper 1030 for £70. After seeing this I'm thinking of upgrading to a 1050ti if any come up in the sales.
I did the same exact Upgrade on my HP 8200 SFF Elite Pro - 2 1TB SSD`s , One for system , one for music, photos, Videos ect. I play Need For Speed -Most Wanted (2005) Black Edition PC on mine ..much fun !!
I sold a dozen of 8200 and 8300 in 2018 and upgraded most of them with a 1030 for some casual gaming and multimedia. Its interesting to see that someone else had the same idea :)
I put the SSD below the ODD to keep the HDD in those systems for storage.

I have a hp Compaq 8200 with an i5 2500 and a 240w PSU can I handle a 1050ti lp or even a gt1030lp since the i5 2500 is a 95w processer

Nice one Phill, enjoyed the video :) I have an interesting idea that may suit your channel, in the same way Linus/LTT did 7 gamers 1PC it would be ultra cool to see a 2 gamers 1 pc budget version, perhaps the SFF would be no good as you need 2 gfx cards but with an i7, 2 x 1050/30's and 32GB RAM it seems like it would be a simple accomplishment and a very interesting video, I wonder just how cheap it could be done.
Remember that you need a hypervisor to runn both systems on. (If your idea is similar to what Linus did in hos 7 gamer,1 compuer build. They used unRAID which has a 30 day trail and the besic version priced at $59)
Nice idea... I would like to see it too... but the CPU needs to support Virtualization AND the ability to Pass-through the hardware (Intel chip needs vt-x and vt-d) I am unsure about early i5 as well as early i7... however, I have a 2 gamers, 1 CPU setup with unraid on my i7 gen 3 (i7 3770) using an Nvidia GTX 750ti and a GT X750 (older GPU's will have problems due to lack of UEFI support) ...@PhilsComputerLab, I am also in Australia :P
yep, both 2nd gen i5/7's support VT-x ark.intel.com/products/52213/Intel-Core-i7-2600-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz I am actually fairly sure they have since the i7-950 time as I was using them for Xen PV/HVM back then in 2011.
I imagine Phil already has all the kit he needs laying around, a motherboard with 2 x 16x PCIe slots would be a big advantage though, the i7 would be better than the i5 so that way you can pin 2 physical and 2 logical cores/4threads to each virtual desktop environment for performance.
I have plenty of experience in this sort of thing, just not the gaming rig side of things so if you do want to make this video and need any assistance feel free to hit me up.

I agree with using older CPUs with way more powerful GPUs, when the next generation of GPUs releases, then running a Navi or 1180t/2600ki, will generate better framerates than using a 1080ti with a Lake CPU.(at least close enough). So if you like your processor, than keep it and just keep upgrading the GPU.

There're a lot of cheap options like this . i3 + 1030 + 4gb ram - i5 + gtx 1050 and 8gb ram or i7 and 1050ti.. I really like this type of pc. Great video.
You could even install the SSD underneath the CDROM, and use a bracket to make it fit the 3,5" slot. This way you could keep both storage devices. The mainboard features 4 SATA connections, and even has RAID. Great little machine....
Hey, I just wanted to know what happened to your PC after use. I know that the PSU is 240 watts and the graphics card is 300 watts and I just wanted to know if your PC is okay. I got the same specs and I realized after ordering the GPU that it needs 300 watts. Cheers!
The GTX 1050 Ti uses only 75W max. Watch the video, I cover power draw very well.

I know im super late, but i'll respond anyway. Don't worry about the PSU with only a 1050ti. You could overclock it and in a few drives and it would still be fine. Personally, I run a RX 470 which is even more power hungry than the gtx 1060 and while I do have to downclock it a bit, the PSU is still going strong even after some abuse.

I have the tower version of this desktop. Same specs, just bigger. It's currently running. GTX 2080 (Was running a 1080 until recently), has 24GB of RAM, upgraded 600 Watt PSU, 1 500GB hard drive, 1 4TB external HDD, And a 250GB SSD. Almost every single triple A game even now is able to run at 50-60 fps on ultra settings at 1440p. Even demanding games like RDR2 run perfect at maxed settings. I built the entire thing for 400 bucks. The set up even runs VR smoothly with my Meta Quest 2
I have the desktop version of the 8200 (with the i7-2600). I've since upgraded everything so the only thing left is literally the case, lol (I like the simple, solid HP design). I had the 2600 paired with a r9 380 and 32GB ram (only because I got a good deal on the ram used - 16GB would have been plenty) and a 256GB SSD. It was great for a couple of years and only recently upgraded.
For those wondering about upgrading to a standard ATX powersupply, you can buy adapter cables on ebay for a few dollars BUT be careful to check the wiring before using it. The one I bought had one of the mobo plugs wired incorrectly but it was easy to fix by comparing it to the original PSU wiring. These motherboards don't only have unconventional power sockets, they also have changes to the voltage (standby is +12v, not +5v) so a voltage booster is needed to get them working with a regular PSU, even if you do the wiring yourself.
Sorry I'm not too knowledgeable on this, but when HP's website says 8200 SSD up to 160gb are they referring to the versions they sell? Or is the "SSD up to 160gb" the max amount of SSD capacity you can install on this 8200? I noticed he mentioned his 3rd recommended upgrade up to 240gb and also a lot of people here in the comments mention to upgrade it to 256gb SSD. So I can install any GB amount of SSD? Or does it have a limit? Thank you for any help you can provide.
These setups can be had real cheap nowadays as well. Recently refurbished a hp 8300 (nearly identical except pcie gen 3 and USB 3.0 native support i believe) for a friend who needed something for his TAFE work.
i5-3470, 8GB's RAM, 128GB SSD, 1TB Harddrive, Wifi Card and even a blu ray drive for 230 bucks including mouse keyboard and a 27inch 1080p IPS monitor.
Lets just say he's one very happy camper.
and if he changes his mind and wants to game a bit I can slap a graphics card in there no problem.

After I upgraded the RAM to 20GB in my HP 8200, it seemed to get stuck in a suspend state and would refuse to boot until I removed all DIMMs, powered on the machine, waited for the error beeps and powered off, then reinstalled them. Upgrading the BIOS to the latest version fixed this issue.
Sometimes pressing the button on the motherboard to reset CMOS can fix such issues!

I am currently building a value gaming pc from a HP Elitedesk 800 SFF with i5-4570, 8GB ram, 240GB SSD and thinking of the low profile gtx 1050ti and the low profile gtx 1650. They are very close in price now, and seeing them between $AUD 259 to $AUD 329. I too would be interested in a review of the GTX 1650 low profile. Really enjoying what you're doing in these videos.

Nice video as always. I'd love to see these cards tested like this on some older systems like C2D or Phenom. Core 2 systems and cpus are so cheap and plentiful atm I think it'd be pretty valuable information to see where they start bottle-necking modern GPUs.

Since I found these small OEMS, I bought a Elitedesk with i7-4770,16GB,1050Ti,1TB SSD,2TB HDD AND new1440p screen for half the price of my Dell XPS Laptop (which was rubbish!!!)
Now I will do a “ultimate” Budget build for my 14y nephew. Hp8200, i5-2400,8GB,1030 for less than 120£:)

cheers mate! Managed to pick up two HP elite machines recently, one for my girlfriend & another for her roomate. We salvaged some extra RAM(8 GBs) for each PC & two SSDs, along with the 500GB HDDs that the computers come with. Was really concerned if the PCs would handle a 1050 or if we'd have to stoop to a 1030 due to the power draw. Really put my mind on ease with this video! They'll mostly be using the PCs for productivity tasks, such as PS, Word & general browsing, but hopefully with this setup, I can introduce them to some games aswell ;)

I'm running the same computer and the I7 gave it a nice kick in the pants as well as the ram. I put a RS 230 card in it, meh. A1050 ti would only geve me %660 more video power. Thank you for showing me the power supply can keep up.

Can see the amount of effort you put into this. Superb! I've been doing similar - but with the Dell Optiplex 790 (I7 2660) and Dell 7010 (I7 3770) with 16Gb DDR3 in those and a low profile 1050TI they absolutely rock along.

I had heard that a SFF PC like the 8200 was the best way to get into it for a decent price, but nobody else had made a video as comprehensive as yours which discussed the best compatible GPUs. Your comments on the CPU in particular were very helpful, since I was wondering whether to upgrade the stock i5 it comes with (an i5 - 2500 in my case). After seeing your video I don't think I'll bother with a new CPU for gaming and just stick to slapping a 1050 ti in there and adding some RAM.
These types of videos are a good counter to the argument that PC gaming has to be incredibly expensive. Since a build like this would be around £600-£700 for a premade PC, it's good to know that if you do it this way it can be done for less than £300 even with a 1050 ti (new 1050 ti is £150 in the UK). I was one of the long time console owners that thought those premade prices were representative of the cost of PC gaming before I dug a little deeper, so I'm glad channels such as yours are around to help new people like me out.

Which 1050ti is it? I have no clue if the Zotac one would fit or not, I've spent 5 HOURS trying to figure out but literally I can't find the answer ANYWHERE! I just want to know if the damn Zotac GTX 1050ti low profile would fit inside this PC like the Gigabyte and MSI ones do too.
Reminds me of my first modern PC (which was modern at its time, and could actually go into the internet.).
I bought it in 2009 and it is an IBM Thinkcentre M55 SFF PC with 1 GB of RAM, integrated video and the C2D E4300.
I upgraded it to the highest possible specs: i tape-modded the 4300 to 2.4 Ghz, which is about the same as the E6600, which was the best CPU for this machine, newer duos and / or quads don't work because it has a very old chipset, upgraded the RAM to 16GB and I even put in a GT210 which I modded to PCIe x1, because X16 cards don't fit. It worked great for older games :) Even if many people hate the GF210, and it is iconic for its low performance, it was great at its time, like the GT1030 is now, because most games ran well on low settings on a 1024 monitor.
I have a friend with that system and he has a Low Profile GTX1650 in it with an I7-3770K 16GB of Ram. Its interesting how you both very similar upgrades. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 👍🙂👍

My HP8200, i added the same Gigabyte GT130 with the fan, but initially i ran the passively cooled one because it was available in my local PC store, that one is now in my Lenovo SFF
My PC like most came with the 4g ram and 250g HDD which is fine, but i found in the spares cupboard another 4g ram, so i have total of 8g
The HDD remained but under the CD rom is a disk tray, i added a 2T hard drive as D drive.
The only issue was to get a ebay double adapter for the power interface as the factory one was a few inches short, also there is a sequence of the SATA ports as to what they run
The special hard drive mounting screws are behind the front facia, there are 4 or 8 of them screwed in the panel near the power switch
Primary sata hdd dark blue sata0
Secondary sata hdd light blue sata1
First optical sata white sata2
Second optical sata black sata3
Overall still happy, and with added graphics and second HDD there is no power shortage
On the wish list is a USB 3, for some reason my USB 2 speeds are 6-10mbs , my lenovo USB 2 speed is 30-50 mbs and USB 3 fluctuates 120-40mbs
Amazon USA has new power suppliers for these at @$30 but they dont ship to Australia, also i really have not found a ATX to SFF power adapter or a external laptop brick that will work if the proprietary power supply dies.
Most brand names eg Dell , HO , Lenovo j have proprietary cases , mother boards and power suppliers, so you cant guarantee a generic ATX ( or BTX ) will work - even the full towers, at work all desktops are Dell and they are 90% all proprietary power supply and mother board connectors
The reality is at this bargain price, you would not really buy a new case or main board or power supply, just replace it with a exact model or the newwr I7 model

The 8300 has USB 3.0, but only at the back. You can get a cheap PCIe 3.0 card, and a front bay device. I will showcase this in a future video!

If you dun care having second psu outside the pc case, and gutting the case a bit, I used tin snip to cut the metal on back of the case, then put full height gpu, then used second psu and used paper small piece of wire to jumper second psu and used its pcie power cable. I just flip the back power switch on second psu, then turn on my main hp elite like normall, and now I can power larger gpu.

I am watching this on my HP 8200 with the i5 2500, 8 GBs of RAM and the GT 1030. So far I am very happy with it. Nice to know I can upgrade without a problem to a 1050 or 1050 Ti if I find a good deal on one.
