Merry Christmas everybody! This holiday season, I felt like my girlfriend needed a MUCH needed PC upgrade, so I upgraded several components in her PC, including but not limited to:
* CPU
* Hard Drive
* RAM
* Graphics Card
For the most part you could consider this a video walkthrough on how to upgrade your HP Elite 8xxx SFF series PC.. Only major thing that's missing is the power supply, but if I do replace it, it will definitely get its own video!
(of course the case fan is missing from the instructions, upgrading the front i/o, putting in a card reader, etc... is missing but I found these to be working, so why fix what isn't broken?)

Thank you very much
Awesome. Good job man - absolutely fell in love with the way you run things here.
Thank you very much
These computers are so underrated. I have the 8300 SFF Elite and after dong some upgrades it can play most modern titles. It is good to see you having a go at making videos but you could of done things a little better it's okay though it's a learning curve. When you put the thermal paste on you made that far messier than it needed to be. You tighten the screws in a tyre fashion to help spread the paste evenly on the cpu you really only need a pea sized amount in the center. When inside a pc the best upgrade you can make is giving it a good clean out it seriously does make a difference in the longevity on a machine. Keep up the good work though will be watching to see if you make more videos.
i know this has been a while, but do you mind sharing the upgrade done to your 8300? CPU RAM and GPU. Thanks in advance!
Thank you I have been a low end gamer for the longest time and now I can really game 😎
Sweetness... You're welcome :)
This was honestly the video I needed and thanks for the clear explanation
You're welcome
Please everyone, do yourself a favor and update the bios in the HP 8200 to the latest version. This will help avoid boot issues and system crashes. Use safe mode, uninstall old video drivers, install new graphics card, reboot and you should be good to go after installing newest graphics drivers.
* HP Elite 8200 SFF
* i5 2500 CPU
* 16 GB Corsair Ram
* Crucial MX500 SSD & 500GB Hitachi HDD
* Zotac GTX 1650 Graphics card

How do I update the bios?
h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Boot-and-Lockup/HP-Compaq-8200-Elite-Windows-10-how-to-update-BIOS/td-p/6863283
The link didn't help me how to update bios
From the first reply:
So...going back to updating the BIOS.
Get a usb flash drive and format it in the FAT 32 file system.
Download whatever BIOS version you want...2.32 or 2.28. All the available BIOS update files are at the bottom of the Revision History section.
support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-compaq-8200-elite-convertible-minitowe...
Run the file. An information page will open. You will see several headings for updating the BIOS.
You want the instruction under the Startup Menu / F10 Setup BIOS Flashing section.
You will see a blue link at the bottom of that section labeled View Contents of DOS Flash Folder.
Click on that link and the folder with the BIOS update files will open.
Copy all of the files in that folder to your USB flash drive. Just the files, not the folder.
Restart the PC, tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.
Select the F10 system setup option.
Select the File tab>Flash System ROM command, and then select the USB flash drive.
The PC should now 'see' the BIOS update files on the flash drive.
Follow the onscreen prompts to update the BIOS.
Easy as pie.

My wife and I have the same system. Thank you very much for the advice and the awesome video! I just installed the same graphics card on it and it works great!
Sweet. Enjoy your Elite SFF series!

@@adventureoflinkmk2 yeah! I was going to tell you ours has 32 gb of ram, but it's still with the original core i5. It runs blazing fast considering I don't have i7 yet. My next installation will be the 1tb ssd card. We have an i7 on the way, but I wonder if I really need it now!
I would... Then again, I'm known to push systems to their limits
Also, good look out on it being 32gb capable man
@@adventureoflinkmk2 I just installed the ssd card but my computer isn't able to identify it. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I reset the CMOS batery again, but it didn't do anything. Also a heads up, the 32gb of ram is PNY instead.

@@adventureoflinkmk2 wish you would have did the power supply too😅
@@invm8534 yeah.. seems to be a fair weak point on this PC as well... Best I can say is get an adapter that converts from the connections the HP Elites use to a standard ATX connection, and get a power supply from there
I'd personally recommend those Pico ATX PSUs that run off a standard 12v power brick

Fantastic video for the 8200..cheers.

Hi man great video! I was wondering what memory type did you have in your previous GT 1030 (is it GDDR4 or GDDR5)? I have the same pc as your girlfriend's and I am planning to buy a GT 1030 GDDR5 to upgrade it, will it be compatible? I see that you have upgraded your pc with a GTX 1650 GDDR5, I want to know if there are compatibility issues when using different graphics card memory types? Thanks!
Seems to be all good, I forgot exactly what 1030 was used, BUT.. I do remember it was from MSI and was passively cooled
Oh okayy thank you man! We appreciate you for replying to our comments! Keep up the good work! :)
@@macdrrn you're welcome.. and thanks
Nice video mate! Got a "barebones" one of these on order (no cpu, hdd or ram). Going to go for an "s" version of an i5. This is the "lower" power version so hopefully leaving a bit more for a gpu. To be on the safe side as psu is 240w.
Cool! Good luck with the build!
That does not matter, you are limited to 75w on the PCI-E slot, so you can go with any supported non S CPU without issues as long as you do not install a GPU which requires external power o too many big mechanical hard drives
You are the man!
Thank you very much...
Listen, I have a question, is this computer good to play when I add a good graphics card? And how long will it last, whether it will die after 2 months or will it serve for many years. My specs: I5 2400 3.4 GHz 8 GB of RAM HDD + SSD 250 120 And I want to buy a GT 1030 Will there be enough for gta 5, for example?
Should last quite a long time... I've personally had good luck out of HPs and my ex-girlfriend had her same sff PC for quite awhile till I upgraded it... LOL
I have that exact set up and it plays smooth with mostly high/very highsettings but the ram must be dual channel and a slight overclock is recommended
I put a $20 gpu in mine, I can play Minecraft and it runs great. Mine came with an i5 and 8gb of ram, but no card.
thats a nice setup thanks for the video man now i know what i need for mine
You're welcome... Good luck with your build
Thanks greetings from Venezuela my dude
You're welcome.. greetings from the USA dude :)
All I got to say is boom

I have this pc but every time i start windows it loads and then shuts down could you help me :(
Hmm. Could be anything really... Easiest thing to do would be to make sure the fan works and the dust is clear
What power supply adapter do you recommend? The link isn't working.
I forgot if i linked the oem one or not but.. if you get a HP to standard ATX adapter I'd get one of those Pico ATX units
This is the best video and now I know where my ram slots are keep it going brother HH

Hey Q:
If you have a pci card for sata and xp requires IDE T to work can you or do you need to turn off another function to make it work. I have xp-11 and linux also. I know the bios has the IDE feature to switch to but is there something else to get it started? Can you confirm that? Thanks.
@@johnreissiger4043 I've never personally messed with IDE or Sata expansion cards, so I dunno. I do know windows xp may need a sata driver upon install tho
Mine updated drivers automatically when I turned on the pc after the upgrade
I believe that is the nice thing about Windows 10. It was plug and play - drivers were automatic
This is incredibly useful, thanks

It's always good to pour that alcohol on the keyboard for quick cleaning. Especially when it's plugged into the pc and the pc has power. It's called quick cleaning.
Hey mate, which specific gpu card did you use and ram type? because i am not familiar in this.. but i have the same cpu you have pls guide me

Oh yeah and be sure to search and get your favourite brand too :)
How to solve bios 163 data and time not set in my pc hp compaq dc5800 microtower instead change battery. what should i do?
It's just as it says... Change the battery, and reset the time and date in the setup utility.
If it still doesn't keep even with a new battery I'd be checking for broken traces or bad solder joints or corrosion around the battery housing
11:10 So wait, if I hear the fan kicking up to max speed after an unexpected shutdown, it will eventually post? I've been switching out RAM back and forth to fix this because I thought it would never POST.
Yes. It should eventually post
I believe it's more a power supply or bios issue

I've got a question. I own this PC and since I'm starting to run out of storage (500GB HDD), I went to spec sheet on HP's website. Apparently, there are two internal 3.5 inch drive bays. Does that mean I can add another HDD (not SSD) which would ideally be 1TB 7200 RPM? (since that's what's supported according to spec sheet). Would it be a harm for the 240W PSU inside it, running two drives simultaneously? I've never added a GPU, SSD or any additional hardware inside. Thanks in advance!
Hm. If this were a SSD you should be fine... Dunno about two mechanical hdds

Yes.. it should work.
Boom!
Hey man. I have and PC like this. It's possible to find a CPU cooler and to be able to be fit with GTX 1650 LP inside the case?
It's possible...
Hello, I have a HP Elite 8200 motherboard, I will be glad if you answer what will be the last processor I can install in this.
IIRC the service manual will tell ya
Okay, so after combing through the service manual myself, it looks like the highest supported cpu is the i7-2600.. physically it could take things newer than this, however OEM motherboard BIOSes tend to only support so many CPUs before the new one you drop in isn't gonna work or be supported in the BIOS
Yeah was gonna say I think the OEMs learned their lesson from the core2duo days LMFAO
Just got one of these for £50 and am gonna throw in a Zotac 1050, squish some 1600Mhz ram, but will hold off on the processor upgrade.
I have an i7 3770, which is shit because this'll only take, you know, the other one like.
But am reasonably chuffed with this ex-NHS rig
I bought the same ram after I saw this video but unfortunately, my PC won't load after upgrading the ram. any idea?
Please help me how do I go into safe mode after I changed my resolution I had a blank screen that says no signal and when I restarting you starts up but after the windows logo load its back to no signal
That happened to me quite a bit on my souped up Dec don't feel bad... Just power down (preferably at the windows boot screen mind you) with the button and power up 3 times and eventually it'll start a diagnostic procedure and from there you can enter safe mode
Of course it'd be easier if you got a reset button like my Dec tho
Hey i have a quick question i have the hp elite 8200 and I have 4gb of ram and if I get a 8gb ram will my ram become 12gb?
Assuming your 4GB RAM is occupied by one slot, yes. You will get 12GB
Just make sure the PC number, frequencies, CAS timings, voltages, etc all match
Hi mate! I have an HP Compaq Elite 8300 with an i7 3770 and I want to install a GTX 1650, is it compatible or is there a BIOS problem? Thank you!!!

You may be better off getting something different. Just because it'll fit the socket physically doesn't necessarily mean the firmware/BIOS will recognize it. And many OEMs deliberately not support newer CPUs, the name of the game is yo keep buying all new hardware.
That said, you can always go on HP website and find a newer BIOS but I'm not guaranteeing any compatibility with your cpu
@@adventureoflinkmk2 could we talk on twitter about this issue? I am new to this and the truth is that I have many doubts, what I wanted to do is update my pc without spending so much money
Sure thing
can u tell in which slot we have to put gpu like in black colour pci slot or white pci slot
Black slot I'm pretty sure is your pcie x16
EDIT: 100% unleashed not held back pcie x16
White slot is also physically pcie x16, however it's wired up as x4
@@adventureoflinkmk2 can u tell that I put my gpu in middle slot which is black in colour but when I turn on pc the display not coming. Btw i have connected my display to motherboard not gpu

@@adventureoflinkmk2 thank you!
You're welcome... So apparently my ex-girlfriend got the most powerful CPU
Even so, it prolly won't run Windows 11

Hello, is there wifi?
No. You need to add in a WiFi card or even a USB wifi dongle
You only need to say you dont have a sponsor once. It gets annoying same with your boom catchphrase
Well guess what, it gets annoying dealing with dumbass crybaby comments like these, and you could have kept it to yourself
Hii, can u play Games like valorant, gta 5 or something like that?
Yes

Can you post a new link to the power supply adapter please?
Just put in an order for an Samsung QV0 870 and mounting brackets. Which power supply adapter should I get? I'll be ordering the same power supply in the description in a few weeks. Followed by expanding RAM to 16gb. Computer came with the i7 2600 I think. Last purchase will be the graphics card. Waiting on the price to drop

why didn't you go through the process of the cloning of the HD to the SSD? critical information
Do you really need a tutorial on how to use the DD command in Linux..? Let alone wanna sit through the entire process..?
@@adventureoflinkmk2 I use Windows, so no, the DD command isn’t something I’m familiar with. I missed that you were using a different OS. I like the video, it would be helpful since I’ve had issues upgrading to SSD in the past.
@@butopiatoo perhaps I'll do a show on it then.. was gonna say you're not alone.. I tried transferring a bunch of files from one drive to a bigger one and it threw errors everywhere
