I made that mistake lol. I built a similar machine but put an AMD Firepro v3900 1GB 128-Bit video card. I built it for my GF as a media/emulator station and installed Linux Batocera. Big fail she has a 4K tv. Works really well for my niece and nephew though they have a 1080p tv :) I found the computer it in the garbage and only spent 20 CAD on the video card. I have two of the 8300. One with a 1030, the other with the maximum supported card of a 1650 and just finished Cyberpunk on High settings with perfect frame rate on the 1650 at 1080p. Its a beast of a machine most hate because it's not RGB and a clear cover.
Just upgrade to a 1050 or 1650 someday and you will double your FPS easily. I recommend the i7 CPU for 144hz displays. Ensure proper cooling tho if you install a 1650, I recommend adding a small, additional exhaust fan to get the heat out of the case and set the idle fan setting at least to two bars.
Some years ago I put together an Optiplex 380 with a Xeon and a GT 1030. Costed me around 100 total, and the little thing is still kicking as an Ubuntu machine.

I literally bought this for my daughter for Christmas because I thought it was a gaming computer . It couldn't run anything! ! Ever since stumbling across your channel and binge watching your videos, I have built my first PC! I returned the pre built one , and used the money to get all the components I needed. So let me explain who is involved in this scam: The scam started from REPC in Seattle Washington and Tukwila Washington. now do not blame REPC for this allthough they sold the used machine to the seller they have no control over what the seller did after. these machines retailed from RePc for $99.00 u.s.d the seller went in and puchased a huge lot of these machines not all at once stuck a cheap graphics card inside the machine and most of these graphics cards where coming from local sellers here in washington state trust me on this i got outbid by the same seller over and over again paying 90.00 a card and less for the GT710 and then advertising them as 4k cards which they are not at all. locals here in washington state have been warning people of this scam and not to buy this machine for the 300.00 price tag because thats even a rip off with the shipping costs on the machine to pay nearly 500.00 for a nearly 10 yr old machine is stupid as hell.
I bought one of these for 150 USD 3 years ago but with an I3 and no GPU in it. up graded the cpu to an I7 3770 for 80 USD, a SSD hard drive, the RAM to 16GB for 40 UD, a low profile 1050ti for 150 USD. Gets 60+ FPS in COD and around 100FPS in Fortnite. Eventually I bought a new case, and power supply because I wanted a better looking computer. I found you need a new motherboard in order to do this because of the mounting for the cpu cooler. So for 65 USD I bought a motherboard for the new case. So after 3 years I now have 2 computers. Everything I upgraded over time is in the new case and the original computer I bought. Now I have a gaming computer and a work computer. So If you can't go buy a gaming computer from the beginning, this works if you have an end game on upgrading over time as you get parts for birthdays and Christmas. Great video. God Bless!
it will be interesting to see RTX3050 power usage to see if that is possible, it wasn't possible for nVIDIA to do a GTX1650Super as they needed 100w, so unless they can fit all the extra components for either a 6pin/8pin/12pin PCIE there won't be one
Ha I actually used one of these HP Elites for a $240 budget build i did a few years back. Still have the thing as a entertainment, emulation, and light gaming rig with a i7 2600, 16gb of 1333mhz RAM, 240gb SSD, 2TB HD, and a GTX 1650 LP.
Bought one of these, but not for gaming. Picked up an i7 mini tower for a Plex server. Paid a little extra for upgrades (an SSD and a standard 3GB HDD, also 16GB RAM), but I think it's going to be fine for its intended purpose. It should be arriving today. If I get a couple of years out of it, it didn't cost a fortune. But I want to say these are...nine or ten years old? Doesn't scream GAMING to me personally. 😀

Definitely good, reasonable quality. You also leave out the multi-thousand dollar builds, that I don't have the money for, & really don't need, even if I did!
The GT730 was sorta usable to play some older e sports titles and old AAA games and it served me well for a time. Not exactly something you should get in the present, but it served it did.
I also went the route of buying a used office PC. The one in the video even has a more modern processor than mine. I avoided buying a SFF version, however (even if I could have cut the price in half by this), because I couldn't be bothered to be limited to a low profile gfx card and this weird power supply format that makes it impossible to upgrade. I have a CMT version with a GTX 970 in it now, that is very decent on 1080p gaming.
I have same pc but paid about 90 for it and got gt 1030 runs games fine it has 16gb ram two ssds and 1 hdd all together 1tb storage runs minecraft and gta at over 60fps when playing at 720p will still run games well at 1080p

I've got this computer. You go into length about video card performance, when in reality there's only a handful of cards that will actually fit that are worth mentioning. You demo'd the GT 1030, but the GTX 1050 TI works well, and I believe the GTX 1650 will also fit, but it's $200 more for MAYBE 10% improvement in performance. So realistically you're either going to go with the GT 1030 or the GTX 1050 TI, and that's the whole list. Lately I've been running into problems with crashing that corrupts my SSDs, so I'm guessing it's the weak PSU.
What I really like about your approach, which I think only @RGinHD has too amongst "my" tech RUclipsrs, is to guide total newbies through the pitfalls of the world of computers without talking down to anybody: sometimes you just need to start at the very beginning, and get a solid understanding of the absolute basics. You are giving folk a solid, welcoming foundation to this after all brilliant space. Cheers!

remember back in the day doing a dell sff gaming PC with a i5, 8gb of ram and a gtx 750 ti low profile gpu in it to hook up to my TV and use a controller on for some call of duty advanced warfighter. Now I just use Moonlight to stream my gaming PC to my Amazon Fire TV Cube :D.
Honestly though rn isn’t that tough of a time to build a gaming computer on a budget. With the prices of good hardware coming down and AMD releasing great hardware for the lowest prices we’ve seen in generations (of hardware), now is an absolutely awesome time. I mean you can get a 1TB WD Blue for under $40 rn and a decent graphics card for under $300, under $200 if you look at used parts. If you’re thinking about getting into PC gaming, or even upgrading your current rig, it’s a great time to be a PC gamer! Edit: as well, with the release of next-gen consoles with absolutely bonkers performance for $500, I should really say now is a fantastic time to get into gaming in general!
My parents got me my system (marketed for productivity) with a 730 and i7-6700k (the bottleneck ikr) over 3 years ago back when I didn't know anything about hardware. On CS:GO, I've optimized my settings to get a stable 60fps in most maps, and most games run at 30-60fps at 720p 4:3 stretched. The most demanding game I play is GTA V and I can get it to run at around 40fps. It really isn't that bad and it works perfectly fine for games like Minecraft (easily 60fps with Optifine) and CS:GO as well as other eSport titles, but it will only get slower as time goes by. I'd recommend getting a GTX 1650, GTX 1660, RX 5500 X, GTX 1060, RX 570, or RX 580 if you want a budget GPU that can run most games at 1080p.
you can find hp8300 elites on amazon refurbed for 160 bucks, although no gt730 included which is honestly fine. you can then just throw a 1050ti in there and youll be set. I found a 1050ti for 170 bucks, so 150 for the pc then 170 for the gpu, you have a little gaming rig. keep in mind, if you get a slim form factor like the one featured in this video, the upgrade path is very small and limited unless you want to put in a good amount of work mostly due to the PSU, mother board, and case. I got lucky and a while back I bought one and it came with an i5 3570 instead of 3470. Unfortunately when I tried to get a bigger psu I needed a converter cable from normal 24 pin to hp's proprietary connector. And then the motherboard stopped working.
Ya gotta look out for the "laying on its side" 8300 Elite. Seriously,i bought 2 Tower systems that have a bunch of room! But the ones that they have left are just like that one you purchased..not any room at all! The power supply on the one's i got are 320,(yeah i wish it was 420 but what can ya do?) But it has to be a Tower system.
I got this PC for free, it came without any upgrades since it was from work but I installed 16 gb of ram, a gtx 1650 low profile (yes it it’s capable of running this GPU) and installed an i7-2600 cpu, all this for 280 dollars, and it will run the newest games at 1080p with some of them at max settings Oh yeah and u installed an ssd as well
I ordered one from a different seller, and they weren't false advertising either. Doesn't run 4k but doesn't bother me(they never mentioned it running 4k) they said 8gb ram but I got 4 bars (it's my first pc so idk how to count it) and it runs 40-60 fps in Minecraft which is the only game i play apart from Roblox, and i do school work. It's a decent pc. I picked it up refurbished for only $135usd. Def worth it in my opinion Edit: i also got optifine for Minecraft so it runs mostly 50-60 now. If not, the high 40's

I just bought a this pc with i5 3470, 16gb and a 1030, sadly with a hdd at the moment, but already smooth as hell. Only paid 100CAD, which is already the value of the 1030 :D
The fastest GPU you can stick in this thing is the GTX 1650 GDDR6 Low Profile. I did it just for fun and its not half bad but I really only use this PC for testing stuff. I end up reinstalling windows on it a couple of times a month. You can also stick an i7-3770k in this thing, but that is even less worth it.
I bought a hp 6300 with a i5-3470 and 12 gigs of ram for 40 dollars and bough a gtx 1050 ti for 150 and it could run the games that I wanted to play really well.

Knowing whether an nVidia card would be a good buy or not used to be quite easy, due to nvidia being relatively consistent with their naming scheme for generations and card-tiers. But sadly their naming scheme for cards seems to be falling apart now. I would not call myself a beginner, and even I am having issues now discerning graphics card tiers, when an rtx 3060 has 12gb of vram but less CUDA's than a 3060ti, and lower performance due to being on a different die from the 3060ti, which runs on the 3070 die, with both cards having less vram but more CUDA's. And this does not even include the rumoured Super and Ti-Super cards, which will probably mudden the field even more than the gtx 1650 and 1660 generation cards.
If you’re going the completely new PC route, you’re looking at $700-800 with 700 being mid high end and 800 being higher end. Upgrading an older PC sets you back about $450 at most.
Well my friend, I have one computer like this bought from my own money, a year ago I paid 87 dollars for it, I got scammed with it but the scam turned out to be gold: I was unable to get any pcie cards and my case was fucked up, but the motherboard broke randomly so I used the warranty to get it replaced. Turns out to be a good pc for daily tasks and lite gaming, though 8 still need to spend some dollars in it to make it really good
Idk if you’ll see this, but maybe someone in the comments will. I bought a Dell Optiplex 9010 i7 DDR3 500HDD 8GB Ram for $150, thing was caked in dust, had to replace the CMOs and reseat the ram and dust the absolute shit out of it. The first issue was no display, (besides the dust) that was fixed, the second issue was power looping, that was fixed, I got it to run, and I had to install and update a bunch of stuff, and windows 10 was not activated, and I signed in, used my key that was on the PC, and I played around on the PC for awhile, streamed on discord listening to music and doing artwork with my Wacom. After a few hours I realized not everything is updated, and requires a restart. I left my house to go do some shit, came back and went to bed, woke up in the morning and it wouldn’t turn on, and I smelled some burnt electronics, and I quickly unplugged everything to diagnose what happened. And I didn’t see anything wrong, I swapped around my RAM, and changed out the CMOs, Incase something happened there. Nothing, no power, except this time when I tried to boot it, the fucking motherboard started to glow and then popped. So now I have a fucking dead motherboard, I took it out completely. TL;DR: I bought an old computer and the motherboard blew up, and I put enough work in it. I’m sad now What’s the best choice of action I could do from here? (Also have a better PSU coming with the last of my money)
If you are unable to get 2K resolution kindly check the HDMI cable if it supports it. A GT 730 should support 2K resolution on the desktop(I am not talking about 2K gaming here).
I upgraded a few HP 8300 SFF with a Geforce 1650 and they actually perform perfectly fine up to 1440p. The i7 actually manages stable 144 FPS in various casual games, in most games (e.g. Witcher 3) the GPU remains the limit, only Fortnite gets the CPU to 90% at 1440p 144hz. 4k? The Geforce 1650 wouldn't be my first choice for that one but it could most likely handle some non-AAA games just fine in 4k with 60 FPS.
This same PC but with i7-2600, 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD, GT 1030 and a "22inch Dell monitor" for 300$, good deal? I want to get it for my sister for school and light gaming. I will throw in an SSD too if the price makes sense.
You could(can?) buy those HP elite systems with the specs in this video off of ebay for about 150 shipped, slap a 1050ti in it and sell them as budget gaming pcs for 350 and you got a business.
If you want, you could buy a power supply adapter to convert what ever pin the motherboard takes to a standard ATX. I did the same for my motherboard. That way you could install a decent GPU
I got some beef with your the forest scores. I also have a gt730 and it gets on average over 30fps in 900p in low settings and the game still looks good in all low settings.
They are selling to day on Walmart web site . They saying new\ used. They are old and very well used . 149 dollars 8 gig of ram 2 tb hard drive. The one I got lasted 2 hours out of the box . Mine came with a warranty. So I just lose a little time for returning it .

So let me explain who is involved in this scam:
The scam started from REPC in Seattle Washington and Tukwila Washington. now do not blame REPC for this allthough they sold the used machine to the seller they have no control over what the seller did after.
these machines retailed from RePc for $99.00 u.s.d the seller went in and puchased a huge lot of these machines not all at once stuck a cheap graphics card inside the machine and most of these graphics cards where coming from local sellers here in washington state trust me on this i got outbid by the same seller over and over again paying 90.00 a card and less for the GT710 and then advertising them as 4k cards which they are not at all.
locals here in washington state have been warning people of this scam and not to buy this machine for the 300.00 price tag because thats even a rip off with the shipping costs on the machine to pay nearly 500.00 for a nearly 10 yr old machine is stupid as hell.
I bought one of these for 150 USD 3 years ago but with an I3 and no GPU in it. up graded the cpu to an I7 3770 for 80 USD, a SSD hard drive, the RAM to 16GB for 40 UD, a low profile 1050ti for 150 USD. Gets 60+ FPS in COD and around 100FPS in Fortnite. Eventually I bought a new case, and power supply because I wanted a better looking computer. I found you need a new motherboard in order to do this because of the mounting for the cpu cooler. So for 65 USD I bought a motherboard for the new case. So after 3 years I now have 2 computers. Everything I upgraded over time is in the new case and the original computer I bought. Now I have a gaming computer and a work computer. So If you can't go buy a gaming computer from the beginning, this works if you have an end game on upgrading over time as you get parts for birthdays and Christmas. Great video. God Bless!

A Low Profile 30-series GPU with DLSS would be interesting to see for these old office PCs.
it will be interesting to see RTX3050 power usage to see if that is possible, it wasn't possible for nVIDIA to do a GTX1650Super as they needed 100w,
so unless they can fit all the extra components for either a 6pin/8pin/12pin PCIE there won't be one
as long as the office pc was using at least a 5th gen i5 or something, anything lower would even bottle neck an rtx 3050 if they release one

Ha I actually used one of these HP Elites for a $240 budget build i did a few years back. Still have the thing as a entertainment, emulation, and light gaming rig with a i7 2600, 16gb of 1333mhz RAM, 240gb SSD, 2TB HD, and a GTX 1650 LP.

Bought one of these, but not for gaming. Picked up an i7 mini tower for a Plex server. Paid a little extra for upgrades (an SSD and a standard 3GB HDD, also 16GB RAM), but I think it's going to be fine for its intended purpose. It should be arriving today. If I get a couple of years out of it, it didn't cost a fortune. But I want to say these are...nine or ten years old? Doesn't scream GAMING to me personally. 😀

I picked up one of those locally for $150.00 last year but it had a 1050ti in it. i7 2600 processor. 120gb SSD 500gb HDD. 12gb ram. It was steal.

The GT730 was sorta usable to play some older e sports titles and old AAA games and it served me well for a time. Not exactly something you should get in the present, but it served it did.

I also went the route of buying a used office PC. The one in the video even has a more modern processor than mine. I avoided buying a SFF version, however (even if I could have cut the price in half by this), because I couldn't be bothered to be limited to a low profile gfx card and this weird power supply format that makes it impossible to upgrade. I have a CMT version with a GTX 970 in it now, that is very decent on 1080p gaming.

I have same pc but paid about 90 for it and got gt 1030 runs games fine it has 16gb ram two ssds and 1 hdd all together 1tb storage runs minecraft and gta at over 60fps when playing at 720p will still run games well at 1080p
A case swap , new psi, and rx580 or gtx 1060 would make it an awesome 1080p 60fps gaming machine
I'm using this computer as a Linux workstation and it works pretty good at retro gaming too. Not too bad for the ~$120 I spent.

I've got this computer. You go into length about video card performance, when in reality there's only a handful of cards that will actually fit that are worth mentioning. You demo'd the GT 1030, but the GTX 1050 TI works well, and I believe the GTX 1650 will also fit, but it's $200 more for MAYBE 10% improvement in performance. So realistically you're either going to go with the GT 1030 or the GTX 1050 TI, and that's the whole list.
Lately I've been running into problems with crashing that corrupts my SSDs, so I'm guessing it's the weak PSU.
If it seems too good to be true, it probably isn't. Less than $1000, target 1080p gaming and have a lot of fun.

remember back in the day doing a dell sff gaming PC with a i5, 8gb of ram and a gtx 750 ti low profile gpu in it to hook up to my TV and use a controller on for some call of duty advanced warfighter. Now I just use Moonlight to stream my gaming PC to my Amazon Fire TV Cube :D.

Honestly though rn isn’t that tough of a time to build a gaming computer on a budget. With the prices of good hardware coming down and AMD releasing great hardware for the lowest prices we’ve seen in generations (of hardware), now is an absolutely awesome time. I mean you can get a 1TB WD Blue for under $40 rn and a decent graphics card for under $300, under $200 if you look at used parts.
If you’re thinking about getting into PC gaming, or even upgrading your current rig, it’s a great time to be a PC gamer!
Edit: as well, with the release of next-gen consoles with absolutely bonkers performance for $500, I should really say now is a fantastic time to get into gaming in general!
Some of the GT 730s are Kepler 28nm and were being produced alongside the 900 series I have a few and they are a lot better than the Fermi cards.

My parents got me my system (marketed for productivity) with a 730 and i7-6700k (the bottleneck ikr) over 3 years ago back when I didn't know anything about hardware. On CS:GO, I've optimized my settings to get a stable 60fps in most maps, and most games run at 30-60fps at 720p 4:3 stretched. The most demanding game I play is GTA V and I can get it to run at around 40fps. It really isn't that bad and it works perfectly fine for games like Minecraft (easily 60fps with Optifine) and CS:GO as well as other eSport titles, but it will only get slower as time goes by. I'd recommend getting a GTX 1650, GTX 1660, RX 5500 X, GTX 1060, RX 570, or RX 580 if you want a budget GPU that can run most games at 1080p.
Dude, I'm playing on a i3-4130 and a GT730 2GB. I'm playing Half Life 2 at 1440p@70fps on medium settings. Really nice game

you can find hp8300 elites on amazon refurbed for 160 bucks, although no gt730 included which is honestly fine. you can then just throw a 1050ti in there and youll be set. I found a 1050ti for 170 bucks, so 150 for the pc then 170 for the gpu, you have a little gaming rig. keep in mind, if you get a slim form factor like the one featured in this video, the upgrade path is very small and limited unless you want to put in a good amount of work mostly due to the PSU, mother board, and case. I got lucky and a while back I bought one and it came with an i5 3570 instead of 3470. Unfortunately when I tried to get a bigger psu I needed a converter cable from normal 24 pin to hp's proprietary connector. And then the motherboard stopped working.
Ya gotta look out for the "laying on its side" 8300 Elite. Seriously,i bought 2 Tower systems that have a bunch of room! But the ones that they have left are just like that one you purchased..not any room at all! The power supply on the one's i got are 320,(yeah i wish it was 420 but what can ya do?) But it has to be a Tower system.

I got this PC for free, it came without any upgrades since it was from work but I installed 16 gb of ram, a gtx 1650 low profile (yes it it’s capable of running this GPU) and installed an i7-2600 cpu, all this for 280 dollars, and it will run the newest games at 1080p with some of them at max settings

Doesn't run 4k but doesn't bother me(they never mentioned it running 4k) they said 8gb ram but I got 4 bars (it's my first pc so idk how to count it) and it runs 40-60 fps in Minecraft which is the only game i play apart from Roblox, and i do school work. It's a decent pc. I picked it up refurbished for only $135usd. Def worth it in my opinion

The fastest GPU you can stick in this thing is the GTX 1650 GDDR6 Low Profile. I did it just for fun and its not half bad but I really only use this PC for testing stuff. I end up reinstalling windows on it a couple of times a month. You can also stick an i7-3770k in this thing, but that is even less worth it.
I have purchased these systems with similar specs for family members who don't game. The ones with no video card i have gotten for 90 to 199 cdn.
I bought a hp 6300 with a i5-3470 and 12 gigs of ram for 40 dollars and bough a gtx 1050 ti for 150 and it could run the games that I wanted to play really well.

Knowing whether an nVidia card would be a good buy or not used to be quite easy, due to nvidia being relatively consistent with their naming scheme for generations and card-tiers.
But sadly their naming scheme for cards seems to be falling apart now. I would not call myself a beginner, and even I am having issues now discerning graphics card tiers, when an rtx 3060 has 12gb of vram but less CUDA's than a 3060ti, and lower performance due to being on a different die from the 3060ti, which runs on the 3070 die, with both cards having less vram but more CUDA's.
And this does not even include the rumoured Super and Ti-Super cards, which will probably mudden the field even more than the gtx 1650 and 1660 generation cards.
If you’re going the completely new PC route, you’re looking at $700-800 with 700 being mid high end and 800 being higher end. Upgrading an older PC sets you back about $450 at most.
GtX1650 and 32gb RAM you'll be fine! I have run an 8300 for years. I7.. ssd boot. You need the best graphics that fit the limit.

Well my friend, I have one computer like this bought from my own money, a year ago I paid 87 dollars for it, I got scammed with it but the scam turned out to be gold: I was unable to get any pcie cards and my case was fucked up, but the motherboard broke randomly so I used the warranty to get it replaced. Turns out to be a good pc for daily tasks and lite gaming, though 8 still need to spend some dollars in it to make it really good

I bought a Dell Optiplex 9010 i7 DDR3 500HDD 8GB Ram for $150, thing was caked in dust, had to replace the CMOs and reseat the ram and dust the absolute shit out of it.
The first issue was no display, (besides the dust) that was fixed, the second issue was power looping, that was fixed, I got it to run, and I had to install and update a bunch of stuff, and windows 10 was not activated, and I signed in, used my key that was on the PC, and I played around on the PC for awhile, streamed on discord listening to music and doing artwork with my Wacom. After a few hours I realized not everything is updated, and requires a restart.
I left my house to go do some shit, came back and went to bed, woke up in the morning and it wouldn’t turn on, and I smelled some burnt electronics, and I quickly unplugged everything to diagnose what happened. And I didn’t see anything wrong, I swapped around my RAM, and changed out the CMOs, Incase something happened there. Nothing, no power, except this time when I tried to boot it, the fucking motherboard started to glow and then popped. So now I have a fucking dead motherboard, I took it out completely.
TL;DR: I bought an old computer and the motherboard blew up, and I put enough work in it. I’m sad now

If you are unable to get 2K resolution kindly check the HDMI cable if it supports it.
A GT 730 should support 2K resolution on the desktop(I am not talking about 2K gaming here).
I upgraded a few HP 8300 SFF with a Geforce 1650 and they actually perform perfectly fine up to 1440p. The i7 actually manages stable 144 FPS in various casual games, in most games (e.g. Witcher 3) the GPU remains the limit, only Fortnite gets the CPU to 90% at 1440p 144hz.
4k? The Geforce 1650 wouldn't be my first choice for that one but it could most likely handle some non-AAA games just fine in 4k with 60 FPS.

You could(can?) buy those HP elite systems with the specs in this video off of ebay for about 150 shipped, slap a 1050ti in it and sell them as budget gaming pcs for 350 and you got a business.
If you want, you could buy a power supply adapter to convert what ever pin the motherboard takes to a standard ATX. I did the same for my motherboard. That way you could install a decent GPU
I got some beef with your the forest scores. I also have a gt730 and it gets on average over 30fps in 900p in low settings and the game still looks good in all low settings.
They are selling to day on Walmart web site . They saying new\ used. They are old and very well used . 149 dollars 8 gig of ram 2 tb hard drive. The one I got lasted 2 hours out of the box . Mine came with a warranty. So I just lose a little time for returning it .
