Philip, if memory serves, you were one of the luminaries at the original Cassandre 2000, c. '84. One of my contemporaries while at cosmetology school coinciding was a firebrand poised to be lit on the freestyle and hip-hop scenes called Tairrie B, who was an aspiring makeup artist at the time. Even by then she had chronicled several iterations of personal style in photographs. She was the type of girl who could convert to herself the electrons in the room upon entering. I will always remember her appearing fresh from Cassandre and your chair, with a spiked, jet black pixie with chunks of blood red and orange interspersed. That work instantly summed up what I had come to expect, demand even, as the kind of inspiration that should warrant my pursuing this craft, this business. Of course, I withdrew from all of it because the business and I were never to be cut from the same cloth. But I have an indelible place amidst my cognitive map for that moment, manifest by your ingenuity. Much respect, creative one.
That fringe technique is incredible. So much movement. I also love the styling technique - working the product into pieces of the hair. ♡ cant wait to use this. Thanks Philip.

I always had a shag haircut back in the 70's/80's and loved it. There was also the Egyptian shag back then. Sometimes I got a perm with it. Really good haircut to do a lot of different styles with or just dry and go.
Wow I remember a Gypsy Shag back in the day with curl around the edges and a smoother crown. The Egyptian shag is new to me. I will research. Keep watching. I have a new cut coming out in a couple weeks. And please subscribe

Phillip you are a genius. This is the best cut ever. I will show this to my hairdresser although I have finer and wavier hair than your model. I hope she can adjust this style for my hair but probably too much to hope for. It would be a dream to just use a little product and sculpt without using any tools.
It can certainly be modified for wave and movement. A good cut with texturing suited for your hair will allow you to save the blower and iron for something special but for everyday try Eufora Behave Styling cream. Thanks for watching and please subscribe. More coming.

Philip, I love this cut! This is exactly what I've been wanting but when I go to my salon I never get the cut I want! What do I ask for? I communicated I wanted a medium length shag and I got a layered bob. What do I say to get this cut?!!
There are a few key elements that differentiate a shag from a layered bob. 1. The perimeter along the bottom should move from longer in the back to shorter as you get closer to the chin. 2. The perimeter should be broken-up and irregular even if it is following a definite angle. 3. The bangs can be connected to the sides but a slight disconnection is best and the should be a fractured perimeter as well. 4. The crown or highest point on top of your head needs to be short enough. 5. There are many ways to get to this end result, but if they are open to it send the link to my video. But give your trusted professional some creative freedom. Pointing out what you don’t want and focusing on what you do, will keep it positive for him/her.

Gorgeous hair cut and color! I’ve ditched the dye and have my natural color grow 11 months now... been laying my long hair at home since the CoVid lockdowns... from almost waist length long layers, it’s now a retro bob but I still have the red bits towards the ends and silver around my face and crown and more steely color at my lower back. It’s all chin length all around now and I’d love to have it shaggy like this as I still have thick hair at 63... my profile pic with the red hair is from two years back... thank you for your tutorials, Philip! They are really beautiful.
I my gosh. Your comment is so thoughtful. A few texturized layers are great for heavy hair! It will also cut away many off the bits of red that are in the interior of your bob and free it up a little so it moves more. Read a couple comments above yours. You will see my suggestions for a good consul with your stylist. Communication during your consultation is key. Don’t be afraid to use pics. Express what you want and really express what you don’t want. I’m sure you know from being a redhead your idea of red and someone else’s idea of red can be totally different. A picture says a thousand words. Use it as a reference only. Your cut should be uniquely yours. Good luck!
great cut. recently got my hair cut since this pic as I wanted layers and to look like what you just cut and didn't get anything like it. Now I have to wait a few months for it to grow out so I can maybe get it salvaged.
I’m sorry about that. Thank goodness hair grows. Do your research and find a stylist that has technical experience. With so much long hair out there today, stylists are not getting a lot of short hair expenses. Checkout a cutter’s Instagram and make sure there are lots of short and medium length cuts. Also take some time with your consultation. This is essential it is your time to communicate what you want and get his/her professional thoughts and opinions. You will find the right one. It’s half communication and half skill. I would look through Instagram by using #YourCityName and the word hairstylist. Example #losangeleshairstylist posts from your area will come up by the hundreds. Research the good cutters. Even if they are extreme. Most know how to cut when you can see by their Instagram that they are passionate about cuts. Then book a consultation. Or ask if they do FaceTime consultations. Good luck and keep me posted
Yes Melissa. Just slightly less textural cutting where it is thinner and maybe blow while massaging the base roots of your hair to lift for a slight plumpness then add products to dry natural. Please checkout my compilation and tutorials on my channel. Much thanks for your comment
Oh! Have been looking for a cut that would help blend and disguise my horrendous hair loss due to Covid whilst it regrows (fingers crossed it will) - think this is it!
I think it could. The texture techniques would need to be modified as alway depending on the texture. Move your scalp like you are massaging but actually move it. You need to get blood to the scalp to nourish the hair follicles. Sometimes I lye on the bed on my tummy and let my head hang off the bed to let the blood come to my head. Do your scalp movement at this time. Don’t get up too quickly. Be regular with it. Put your mind in a positive way when it comes to your hair growth not your hair loss. Worry only adds to the problem. Do this on a regular schedule and wait a month or so. You should sé signs of new growth. A product called Eufora is less chemically oriented. The have a thickening line. Get the scalp spray. It stimulates the scalp. You can find it online at Eufora.net. It will not be on Amazon
Absolutely would! Allow a tiny bit more length. There is a curly shag on my channel check it out. The texture techniques allow you to do minimal styling and use your wave instead of fight it. Please subscribe

I surfed into this by searching for shag haircuts. I don’t know who Carreon is, but I do now. I merely was attracted to the cut and the color. I have been all over and I know when someone gives a good cut and they know what they are doing. When it is cut good you do not even have to blow dry it. Your hair just falls into place. I used to fly down to Miami to get my haircut at a Cuban hair salon. Someone that cuts hair for Latin America stars. I am seriously considering flying out to Beverly Hills since I work for the airlines to give Philip a try. Probably cannot afford it though. I would be interested to know what he charges.

Beautiful but what about people who wear glasses ? I grew out my fringe as I thought it looked too much fringe then glasses. I never get the cut I would like and I have let my natural colour grow out which is surprisingly a really nice silver, however I think it's even more important to have a cut that doesn't make you look old or older ! Any suggestions welcome I have a layered Bob.
Yes. If you look on my instagram account (@philipCarreonStyle) and about 26 or 27 posts down there is a beautiful Persion client of mine, Marjanay. Look through her 6 picks she was naturally gray and a slight tweek on the color hel[ped. We gave her a shorter fringe but not too short, just exposing her brows. Marjanay wears thick frame glasses most of the time. She has a bit longer bob but it can be shorter as well. Also just 2 posts, (very recent) You will see a woman with a shorter bob and pink hair. Look at the photos of Christa she was all gray. You can even put dimension with a silver of adding some slate color. All direct dyes. Your MANE question about your fringe is if you like the way a fringe frames your face, wear them! Cut back far enough into the temples and slightly up, will open up your face so it doesnt get lost. How did that workout? Layers create silhouette and texture and can give fullness to the top. Sometimes wavy hair will get kicky and form large curls when weight is taken out properly. Good luck! Try and find a stylist that is good with layers if it doesn’t work out.
I think the fringe is often the main stage for a shag but Billie Eilish has a shag with no fringe and it’s amazing. Anything is possible. It’s what makes it your own.

great cut. recently got my hair cut since this pic as I wanted layers and to look like what you just cut and didn't get anything like it. Now I have to wait a few months for it to grow out so I can maybe get it salvaged.
I’m sorry about that. Thank goodness hair grows. Do your research and find a stylist that has technical experience. With so much long hair out there today, stylists are not getting a lot of short hair expenses. Checkout a cutter’s Instagram and make sure there are lots of short and medium length cuts. Also take some time with your consultation. This is essential it is your time to communicate what you want and get his/her professional thoughts and opinions. You will find the right one. It’s half communication and half skill. I would look through Instagram by using #YourCityName and the word hairstylist. Example #losangeleshairstylist posts from your area will come up by the hundreds. Research the good cutters. Even if they are extreme. Most know how to cut when you can see by their Instagram that they are passionate about cuts. Then book a consultation. Or ask if they do FaceTime consultations. Good luck and keep me posted

Oh! Have been looking for a cut that would help blend and disguise my horrendous hair loss due to Covid whilst it regrows (fingers crossed it will) - think this is it!
I think it could. The texture techniques would need to be modified as alway depending on the texture. Move your scalp like you are massaging but actually move it. You need to get blood to the scalp to nourish the hair follicles. Sometimes I lye on the bed on my tummy and let my head hang off the bed to let the blood come to my head. Do your scalp movement at this time. Don’t get up too quickly. Be regular with it. Put your mind in a positive way when it comes to your hair growth not your hair loss. Worry only adds to the problem.
Do this on a regular schedule and wait a month or so. You should sé signs of new growth. A product called Eufora is less chemically oriented. The have a thickening line. Get the scalp spray. It stimulates the scalp. You can find it online at Eufora.net. It will not be on Amazon

I surfed into this by searching for shag haircuts. I don’t know who Carreon is, but I do now. I merely was attracted to the cut and the color. I have been all over and I know when someone gives a good cut and they know what they are doing. When it is cut good you do not even have to blow dry it. Your hair just falls into place. I used to fly down to Miami to get my haircut at a Cuban hair salon. Someone that cuts hair for Latin America stars. I am seriously considering flying out to Beverly Hills since I work for the airlines to give Philip a try. Probably cannot afford it though. I would be interested to know what he charges.

Beautiful but what about people who wear glasses ? I grew out my fringe as I thought it looked too much fringe then glasses. I never get the cut I would like and I have let my natural colour grow out which is surprisingly a really nice silver, however I think it's even more important to have a cut that doesn't make you look old or older ! Yes. If you look on my instagram account (@philipCarreonStyle) and about 26 or 27 posts down there is a beautiful Persion client of mine, Marjanay. Look through her 6 picks she was naturally gray and a slight tweek on the color hel[ped. We gave her a shorter fringe but not too short, just exposing her brows. Marjanay wears thick frame glasses most of the time. She has a bit longer bob but it can be shorter as well. Also just 2 posts, (very recent) You will see a woman with a shorter bob and pink hair. Look at the photos of Christa she was all gray. You can even put dimension with a silver of adding some slate color. All direct dyes. Your MANE question about your fringe is if you like the way a fringe frames your face, wear them! Cut back far enough into the temples and slightly up, will open up your face so it doesnt get lost. I have wavy hair and tried cutting layers myself.
How did that workout? Layers create silhouette and texture and can give fullness to the top. Sometimes wavy hair will get kicky and form large curls when weight is taken out properly. Good luck! Try and find a stylist that is good with layers if it doesn’t work out.
