Watched this tutorial a few months ago and used a razor instead and literally cut the most beautiful shag cut on my client. Literally got so many clients because of this tutorial thank you! You're amazing.
Really would be best as razor cut shag , he cuts in front of guide fingers on one side snd behind on other side no need ??? Just pull a razor and cut with same over direction to original guide twist to horizontal gives more length too
Yes,but more than 97% there is not one that can cut the way you want it,even by showing them a picture and that is the facts. Dnt know how in the world they got their license.
@@annross1611 because continued education is paramount. We really start learning right after we get a license, and take continued education. You only have to demonstrate you can section, palm your shears, and cut safely. They don't care how bad they cut it. This is why it's important to ASSIST for 6mo to a year or go to a really good technical school that teaches an entire matrix of cuts. This man is classically trained by Sassoon. It's obvious. (Possibly Paul Mitchell, but they all came out of Sassoon principles.)

It's tineless and universally beautifful if you have enough hair. There are cute shorter versions, too. Not great on low density and fine hair, but works with most hair.
@@rain3743 My hair is high density but is very fine and straight. My experience is that it generally looks okay, but 1. balancing product when I choose to style it is tough because I need enough to get some volume but no so much it weighs the hair down, which happens easily. Number 2. making sure the hair is clean and not greasy is doubly important, because that extra shininess makes me look like a lion who got rained on. (I definitely recommend looking up photos of lions with their manes soaked, it’s very silly looking)
I was an apprentice hairdresser in mid 70s and had my hair cut very similar to this.. it was razor and “tapered cut” razor was always used on wet hair and tapering was always on dry. 😁 I am dying to have my hair cut like this again.. love it. 😍
I went today to a hairdresser, in a high end salon, here in Florida, who has been a hairdresser for 50 years. She is in her 70's. She looked at the picture of the shag haircut I wanted, and said, "Oh a shag!" Then, she proceeded to cut long layers and said it was done. It looks nice, but it is not a shag, and she didn't do anything near the steps that this video took us through. I was a hairdresser almost 30 years ago. I could not do a shag, and even if I could now, I wouldn't be able to reach the angles to do all of this on my own head. Oh well. No shag haircut for me!
When we used to cut this style back in the 70’s we put all the hair neatly and evenly in a ponytail on the very top of the head and cut the hair off right above the elastic if a shorter shag was wanted or cut it an in or three above the elastic . As you take it down you get even layers all the way down in all directions. Then we trimmed the bangs and the back a bit to give a little fullness at the edges, cleaned up the look. Better to cut longer to start, you can always do it again if you want it shorter. This was for friends and family,in the salon we did it more like this because people were paying money for our time. Same result . Works amazing on curly hair.
The shags looked better then. I had one too and the ends of the hair were trimmed to give the cut a richer finish.. Those scraggly ends ruin the cut for me.
it works on curly hair? i was about to comment that i have crappy curly/frizzy-ish hair that would never be good in this cut, as much as i love it. now you've piqued my curiosity!
@@mythepoeia if you want it to be curly, I’ve never straitened this cut , just encouraged the natural curl to riot. Do you use the curly girl method on your hair ?
