  • This video is part 2 of how to make custom pixel window props. In part 1, I showed the the design, materials, and wiring of my custom pixel window props. In addition, I showed how these are mounted to my house. In this video, I show how these windows are physically connected to the controllers and how they are modeled in xLights.

    The best xLights video I've ever seen. With my poor English, I still understand. I would like a video about custom singing trees. Especially about pushing pixels, how to rationally place them.

    Thank you. Great explanation of how to layout the pixels in Excel, list the pixel numbers and then copy/paste it into X lights.

    Great video! If I'm following correctly, it looks like you may be missing pixel 48 in your first line of "vertical lines". Roughly cell 8, AV.

      @dbldare You are correct! You have been paying very close attention and found the easter egg omission. ;)
      You did have me go into xLights to see if my windows are setup correctly. Fortunately, those were correct. I apparently didn't reflect the right values back into excel when making the video.
      That level of attention to detail will do you well! Would love to see your show setup and work once you have everything going.

    Thanks for the very detailed videos you produce. I'm very new to this and want to know what brand name pixels you purchase or what manufacturer or website you recommend for purchasing pixels?

      Glad you like them and welcome to the lighting club! I don't have any particular brand of pixels. I purchased all of my pixels from one manufacturer back in 2017 and 2018. There are a number of online retailers that sell them now, and most are pretty reputable. When issues are found across a retailer or set of retailers, it likely is due to the manufacturing source, as there's only a handful that mass produce them. I have no direct affiliation nor sponsorship, but if I were to purchase pixels now, I would get them from YourPixelStore.com. Mynor Mendoza is the owner of the company and has been driving quality back through the supply chain. That being said, there are many others that sell quality pixels as well. If you join the Facebook Official xLights Support Group and do a search there, you'll see comments and posts from folks who have had good success with a number of them. Best of luck.

    What do you use to run your show? (Pi, xSchedule, etc) do you have a video on that?

    • @NiFamilyLights

      @gritz1701 Thanks for the question.
      My setup is pretty straightforward. I use a Pi 3B+ running FPP to run the show. It’s hard wire connected via a network switch on a dedicated show network to the F16v3 and the two P10 panel setups. The P10 panels are each running a Beagle Bone Black with an octoscroller cape, connected to the 36 P10 panels.
      I don’t have a video on it (yet) as it’s pretty standard, and there are many videos out there showing how to setup and use FPP.
      Please let me know if you have other questions.
