Father blames UC Irvine student's death on fraternity hazing ritual

- A California father believes his 18-year-old son's alcohol-related death was the result of a fraternity hazing ritual. The Orange County coroner's office on Monday said Noah Domingo died from accidental alcohol poisoning. Police have not confirmed hazing played a role in the January incident. Jamie Yuccas reports.

Teach your kids to stand on their own, make their own decisions and teach them that they don't need the approval of any person or group to be great, they can achieve greatness on their own. Don't destroy your health or risk your life to be apart of something else created before, create something new, something better on your own. The problem is the youth are afraid to make their own decisions because they don't want to be left out, teach them better and help build their self esteem and things will change for the better.

Definitely not multicultural and nphc. We came out of a need to create a space for POC, please don't group us with these. If you look at our organizations, it's completely different. My intake was meant to build stronger Latino males to thrive in college. All multicultural for sure don't make you drink during your process. In fact, most are "dry" meaning you can possibly get dropped from the process. My intake process made me grow so much, and my fraternity is meant to create peace within Latino communities

This is very sad and has been going on for years. However, it is virtually impossible for the universities to monitor the behavior of their students 24/7....!!!!!
I wish people would stop this hazing stuff. How many people are going to die before we realize how stupid and outdated these rituals are.

This is sad. An attractive young kid that didnt even get to live his life yet due to hazing. I never understood Sororities and Fraternities. I've heard some they actually have sex or do sexual acts to get into the fraternity. IMO this is no different that a gang hazing to be part of that so called brotherhood.
I will never understand the point of fraternities. You could use your time at college much more wisely.
Multicultural fraternities and sosoritied are different. We wear our letters proud because our respective orgs are meant to empower us as POC. We need to establish a difference between these fraternities and multicultural identity based ones. They are meant to create a space where we empower each other. Our orgs wear our letters proud because we create change within our campuses and we definitely don't pay to get in. In fact most cost almost nothing to get in. We go through a "dry" intake process to build strong character and will. There are plenty good we do but we always get lumped with these fraternities that make u drink to get in or do stupid things.
anthony agama I agree that there are professional fraternities and multicultural frats/organizations that provide benefits. However I see even within these organizations that so much time is spent on social events and parties as opposed to community work and career advancement.

My cousin goes to UC Irvine and the summer before I started college, he told me about this happening. I don't know if he was talking about this incident specifically, but he did say someone died from hazing.
that response by the University was callus and cold, before the investigation is even complete they are already making the assumption that he hadn't alcohol problem! ? But yet they don't want the investigators to make the assumption that it was a hazing ritual? But they will go as far as to put it out there about alcohol abuse wow, shame on them!

I agree with the school problem. hazing should be banned at all schools! college and high school. my brother was in a frat, they branded their members. 😭😭😭 it's so stupid. (he did not get branded). however, I'd like to say that I don't think you can see alcoholism at such a young age because it take some time before it takes a toll on your body. that's why 40 year olds look 70. but they look normal in their early 30's. it's one of those things where you really can't tell unless your in their life. -still a very sad story. 😔

Actually, freshmen year in college is a time when kids seek acceptance into new social groups and that can come at a heavy price with heavy substance abuse and unsafe sexual practices being the leading ones and isn't only isolated to the Greek scene
Hazing has always been a mainstay in the Greek system, whether you like it or not: what needs to be done is a better relationship with our children to instill a proper moral compass so they can navigate through life...

I can't imagine how the parents feel! I live in Irvine, have lived here for 20yrs since I was 13, graduated from UHS which is literally a stones-throw from UC Irvine - the community is utterly shocked. While UCI is a top 10 public US university, and we have a population exceeding close to 300k, this type of thing almost never happens here.

I was in a fraternity and I understand the whole ritual thing. when I joined I had to do a drinking challenge sort of thing but I had my limit and when I knew I stopped and my brothers respected me and didn't push me to continue. I ended up finishing the drink but I paced my self for the rest of it as in the beginning it was a timed thing. Sad that this happened

He like most freshmen didn’t know his limit, was trying to impress people, and went too far. That’s the killing mixture that sent 30+ freshmen to the ER on my sophomore year. Poor dudes.

Or...we can hold these kids accountable. Sure the frat guys played a big part but why be part of a "brotherhood" that promotes this kinda behavior. I would never allow my own brother to drink until he dies. There is not true friendship in this "frat".
No dude we can't just hold them accountable. A lot of people can never see the reality behind stuff or the consequences because they're so brainwashed or too focused on trying to fit in. There needs to be good people around to remind these guys not to do these stupid things. Yes it would make sense to say it was there fault and call it a day, but people are not that simple.

So many of these people against fraternities and Greek life have never been in a fraternity or sorority, Greek life in 2019 is much different than the stereotypes media and long standing perceptions held by many, strides are being taken across the country to improve Greek life and calling a ban for Greek life and generalizing it is a major disservice to thousands of men and women across the country

Never really understood the point of putting your life at risk just to join greek life. Literally, just go with a decent ratio if you're a guy and you should get into any of the parties (girls are pretty much free entry). No need to pay dues or go through initiation, and you basically get 70% of the benefits that you would be trying to join a frat for anyways.
You mention weed and the whole room becomes uneasy. Alcohol is lethal, and literally makes you more stupid by tenfold.
This story is sad and frats are beyond ridiculous but this happens dozens of times per year the only person at fault is the consumer.. why is everyone always looking for someone to blame?
