My name is Kaiya Pelletier and I am documenting my metal journey as I discover and listen to metal music for the first time ever. I'm in my mid 20's and I've been a singer songwriter and performer for over 10 years. Currently I live in Stillwater, Oklahoma and I am in the process of recording my 4th album. I have a one year old Bloodhound named Rusty who we lovingly call 'The Turd'. I love Mexican food, collecting Stephen King novels, collecting CD's, vinyl's and cassettes and my favorite movies are tied between Jurassic Park and Alien.

200 Stab Wounds' EP "Piles of Festering Decomposition" is still among their best work, it's a shame that it's largely forgotten and unavailable.

I just saw Necrot this past week and they crushed live. Witch Vomit is going out on tour with Skeletal Remains this fall. Those three bands are my favorite new old school death bands.

i can understand OSDM purists disliking the hatebreed style groove-heavy riffs of 200 Stab Wounds. i can't understand putting Tomb Mould in the same category.
i think both their albums are above average for the genre. the guitar tone is great. a lot less sterile than frozen soul, a band i would consider below average for the genre.

Think she was just relating the way both bands tend to get dismissed for various reasons...especially with that new Tomb Mold band picture that's been making the rounds

I appreciate the new wave of old school death metal. I grew up with the OG death metal, and I do like how brutal death metal and slam have taken death metal to previously unchartered territory...
But sometimes, you just wanna do the backstroke in familiar waters... Familiar but different...
You have to set aside the expectation of hearing something you haven't heard before. Everything is someone else's take on something some one else is doing.
In the late 90s and early 2k bands like dehumanized had that death metal with hardcore chug style perfected.
No one is saying 200 SW isn't heavy, but heavy isn't always good or great.
The bounce comes from Nu Metal. That is why a lot of OSDM purist hate it. Nu Metal should be called 90s Pop Metal. I'm not saying it's not metal but the name aged horribly. The term New Metal should be reserved for describing the newest Metalic Music available, not just a sub genre of wiggerz (and not the good kind either) who can't rap or play instruments well, so they get dee jays and samples to make the music interesting. Whack. #notmymetal

Thank you for reviewing a new band!
Big fan of the new OSDM bands, or my favorite title for them "Hardcore MFs playing DM'. Maggot Stomp is sick. The hip hop bounce you mentioned comes from the Hardcore influence and the breakdowns are made to dance to.
I think a lot of metalheads don't like Hardcore kids, because they don't like the way they dance. But this music is made for spinkicks and stagedives. These bands play mixed bills and jump on so many Hardcore Fests and I'm here for it.

They use as ispiration Fulci's horror movies, a great horror director also from italy, they're fantastic. Hope you'll give them a listen🤟🏻

I find them quite mid. 6-7/10 at best. It's safe dm without any great highs or lows, backed by a big label. It will be forgotten by the time the next big thing is released, while lots of great albums go by unnoticed because many modern listeners stick to their hip Nuclear Blast, Metal Blade, and Century Media labels.
I'd recommend the new Trog (Horrors Beyond) or Guts' overlooked 2023 Decay album over 200 Stabbies

Dont misunderstand...the problem isnt that there are new, younger bands doing the old school style. Like I said before, this has been going on for over a decade now, despite what the metal media seems to think, and there are plenty of new, young bands that click really well with the elistist set...Fossilization, Vacuous, Civerous, etc
...but you've heard me use the term "Hardcore kids playing death metal" and this is exactly what Im talking about when I say that. While there are some new bands that seem to really understand what goes into making classic, old school sounding death metal...because they were death metal fans, some of these bands just come across as outsiders aping what they see....and it comes across as mid and unispired.

200 Wimp Wounds... overrated death metal proped up by casuals. People talk up these new bands but don't even know Dismember, Monstrosity or Malevolent Creation

I love 200 sw but the intro wasn’t that interesting and the tremolo riffs on the song are very boring. Except the one at 2:58. Ending portion also feels awkward, like the last minute.
