Played in Beta and for 10 years adn finally quit, now 10 years later i am having a nostalgia bug. I watched this and laughed.. Mage, powerful from start to finish.. Man we where CRAP when i played. Bards were VERY underrated throughout the game, mostly because so many players failed to fully grasp their mechanics and all the hidden effects of their songs. For a very long time, people actually believed the class itself sucked for groups, refusing to invite them...again because so many people who played Bards sucked at the class. Truth is, many Bard songs broke the rules for the spells they mimicked. Several of the Bard's crowd control songs bypassed magic resistance altogether, and/or had a built-in memory-wipe. We could literally pacify or mez mobs that Enchanters could not. During the Planes of Power expansion, the really good Bards made several of the "zone-unlocking" encounters almost trivial because of these traits. Too bad my own guild leader never figured it out. He was stuck in the "Bards are only good for mana and resistance songs!" mindset, and never gave my Bard a chance to use his full abilities when raiding. It was so bad, that the guild only managed to beat many of the progression content when the guild leader was offline, which freed me to use my abilities. I chain-pulled the entire Solusek Ro Tower zone all by myself for goodness sake, a feat that was supposed to be impossible without a team of 2-3 necros and monks. But, the guild leader never got to see that stuff, and so I was always relegated to standing in one spot playing my mana and resist songs when he was online. But, they were the top raiding guild on the server, so I stuck with up until the OoW expansion, when the guild leader announced we would be doing everyone else's epic weapon upgrades ... EXCEPT for the Bard epic, because it was "useless for raiding".
I was in the top raiding guild on the Phinigel progression server a year or so ago before I stopped playing, was also one of the highest geared bards on the server, and let me tell you, people in the guild FOUGHT over what bard was in what group and if they didn’t have a bard they’d throw a fit LOL. I can’t imagine being in a guild where people think Bards are useless.

No idea how eq1 is these days, but back then charming a bad ass animal and farming even more badass mobs with it was what made me farm1 AA point every 10-15min depending on how lucky i got on charm breaks during a fight and if i could avoid getting one shot after getting summoned to the storm giant after my charmed frog died or lost charm. I'm not quite sure if it's a fun or sad fact i remember playing a toon in a virtual world 15 years ago...

Druid Necro. Nothing says good times like kiting an entire zone behind you with no fear of ever dying. Oh you want to steal my mobs...port away come back 2 minutes later person is dead and begging for help to get their body. Necro FD and watch the person die to the 20 mobs you just dropped on them.

Playing from beta 1 through 2008 roughly (then not as much for a few years), I was in a raiding guild. The only content we never did was the Sleeper, we weren't able to do it yet when another guild downed him. All the classes you list were well represented in our raids, all the way from the original 2 dragons, through Fear and Hate, through the Planes, and onward. That was the great thing about EQ, class dependency was real, and each had a role to play. My main was an Enchanter, but I also had a Wizard, Monk, and Cleric high enough level to bring to Plane raids depending on what was needed. Loved porting groups up with my Wizard.
I played a DRUID when Ruins of Kunark came out. It was fun (portals used to be very important as well as SOW). I left EQ when WOW came out but still miss it and the way the people were in the game there. WOW has become disconnected from the people interactions and everything is HURRY as fast as you can so you can do it again. I played and enjoyed the heck out of Warrior and Monk as well! Nice video, memory lane....
nice video. I"m just starting in eq and I'm gravitating to Magician because of the crazy ability to solo everything. Melee classes just seem too weak, but I'm also poor and new. Still feels like I'm auto attacking for 15 when my mage can cast a spell and hit for 200. Magic is simply OP
I loved playing my Ranger, yes i know it is a week class but i loved the challenge got him to lvl 95 and boxed with my druid lvl 90. 9at the time lvl 100 was max) But sadly they fucked around with the rangers abilities and head shot. Soloed to get my epics 1.0 I use to pull a bunch of mobs group snare then doted and bow while i walked away slowly and bam they all would die in no time man what fun it WAS...
one nice thing about pallys is you can pull and tank witch is a really fun and active way to play. liked seeing your pally i don't play anymore but i posted a video of my pally so id remember him

Is the game still worth playing? I have a warrior lvl 56 with blade of carnage and a split blade of destruction and a windblade... Had nearly invested three years with my bard farming to gear him up. If the game worth it i might try jumping in again
That's a tough question. If you are just coming back after years of being away, I'd suggest one of the progression servers. If you try to jump back in on your old character, unless you have a group or guild to jump back in with, it will be a rough transition. The game has grown so much, and the population thinned out and now so top-heavy, that if you try to jump back in at the middle you may find yourself not recognizing the game as it is now and having no one to group or play with. However, if you are up for a round on the progression servers or if you have a friend who is willing to jump back into the main servers with you, I, as someone who has done both, can confirm that the game still holds up well and that it is so nice to be back in Norrath!
The progression servers get boring.....are flooded with people like me who play 30-40 Mages at once to farm Kronos. The only live server that's easy to get into is Firiona Vie because of the economy. The other live servers are fine but finding someone on FV to give you better gear than your BoC and Split Blade isn't hard. You can hear a new toon for a few million plat....hell I'll give you a set of Val 1, 75, 85,95,106 gear (15-18million) for free if you actually want to play.
Let me know your name. Unless you want to focus JUST on raiding a shadow knight is going to be the best group content tank. beastlords have been buffed a ton over the years... little monk and shaman and their pets are actually as strong as a 110 SK or Paladin in group gear. Zerkers do the most DPS.... or Wizards... Mages and Necros aren’t bad but I prefer Mages but both classes are behind Zerkers,Wizards and Rogues... Rogues are just a bit behind Zerk/Wiz... casters are less gear dependent... Rangers are great if you’re fighting humanoids and can headshot them ... they are my favorite class but I never use mine just because they really can’t tank and their non human dps is lacking. Clerics are still your best bet for a healer... shamans make good utility and spot healers. Druids aren’t horrible and their DPS has been buffed they are like mini wizards that can heal. Warriors are still solid raid tanks... Monks are sort of garbage... no major guild uses them. I wouldn’t play an Enchanter unless you plan on 3-6 boxing. Honestly it comes down to what you enjoy... in the end a well played is going to be better than a poorly played Zerker. Mercs are a huge thing now.... you want to use a tank Merc starting out they can almost PL you all the way to about 65 then you want to switch over to a healer Merc. Just decide between Tank or melee or caster DPS and then decide... what class interests you... what do you want to be able to do... and we can go from there.
Ryan McGauley I enjoy bard and would most likely consider playing a sk if you think raiding is still a option even if i don't main tank. I am a solid gamer, was a world rank tank and dps in wow and always push myself to excellence. I work from home as well so i have loads of time to game even while working. My question is should i heroic a character or just level one? What are the benefits to pay monthly and how do mercs work and can upgrade them?
Best classes - necro - mage - Druid - wiz Warrior - bard Zeru dark elf sk , povar 1999 - 2007. R.I.P. EQ Sometimes you can’t go home . Had the most fun playing Druid / bard / rogue
I agree completely with the Bard thing... I started up an Ogre Warrior on Phinigel server like 3 years ago and joined a casual raid guild that barely had like 2 Bards. There was no demand for any specific class but, Bard songs are pretty amazing for group and raids. Our raid leader made sure to have the Bard in his group every raid lol...
That's the difference I'd rather have a monk and an enchanter played by actual players than box my bard but if I don't have the option then I use my bard
Shows off what Paladins can do - fights lvl 10 mobs. I was surprised to see Paladin on top of the list, but in starting one up recently (and having started one originally) I was surprised at the huge combat and tanking boost they appear to have gotten in the past few years. Makes them much more enjoyable.
My main was always wizard, so I have an irrationally emotional attachment to that class. :) That said, I also two-boxed an SK and Shaman combo which worked out pretty damn well. They could get a lot done between them.
Bard, Shammy, Necro and Enchanter. Loved the utility of those classes that were welcome in any party but also let you do crazy things and try fun challenges solo when nothing else was going on. Like who cares if it's effective to do it solo or not, it's fun lol. That's also why no other MMO ever clicked with me where you have zero utility to be creative and everything boils down to "is your dps high enough to burn X before it kills you?" lol
dude I love the Paladin, I'm Drakkin/Paladin noob just starting and i hope they work on the game more to update it to bring in more folks...playing free right now until they hopefully make a change. Love the vid man, hope to see you inside!

Lay hands! It's saved many a life! Look at the epics pallys got in EQOA. They had lance that i wanted so damn bad... never did get it though... :( wiki.eqoarevival.com/index.php/File:EpicPaladin_Lance.jpg
Excellent review, thank you. #1 was a shocker to me. My first and longest was a paladin and found it to be a masochistic route to go solo'ing because they have a spork effect, trying to do damage and heal while doing neither one very well. I didn't find groups to be much friendlier as they wanted a dedicated healer (cleric) or DPS (warrior/wizard). Warrior then became my top favourite, Wizard my second, Magician third, Ranger fourth. I have a high level Cleric that is very useful, but not very fun to "sit and heal at 40%" all of the time.
I prefur shaman here, I've been main healer and main tank before, yah a little slow for group but with a good shaman you still do a decent group. I've even been called to random raids because I was so well known to fill in missing members. Dont have a perfectly full group call in a shaman, shamans can crowd control, dot, nuck, heal, buff and so on, never as good as main classes but as a generalist class they are a good goto class when you cannt get a full group. You just have to get a good player for that class.
When I started I played a Druid and just stuck to it since it took so much dam time to level up and get good gear. But man I wish I would have chosen a couple different classes as my main. Druids were kinda cool but not nearly as cool as a lot of other classes.
You like some basic classes lol. Try these five if you want to do some truly incredible things, with a high skill gap: 5-Shaman, 4-Shadow Knight , 3-Monk, 2-Enchanter , 1-Necro
I think you rate classes based on how many powerful compositions they can be a part of. You also rate for either group content, raid content, or solo content. I'm rating for group content. I'm a classic EQ1 player. That makes Enchanter to me by and far #1. It is a straight up OP broken class. Enchanter is literally godmode. A naked enchanter can destroy content 5 levels above it with ease and carry naked underleveled parties. This means that the most powerful compositions all revolve around Enchanter. They enable the Enchanter to be stronger and work around the Enchanter's mechanics. The next strongest class, in my opinion, would be Cleric. It is part of aoe groups and top tier enchanter groups. Cleric is a very good #2. Not only that but it can also, like the Enchanter, mix in with classic parties. Enchanter + Cleric via charm/complete heal is the most devastating duo, though Enchanter does have to rely on Spirit of Wolf potions to pull. Furthermore, clerics can act as pullers if there is no Enchanter in a classic group. #3 for me would be Shaman. They have the strongest slow, sow, and -mr. They go extremely well in practically any party for their slow alone. With an Enchanter mixed in, their -mr is deadly. Yes, magician also has -mr, but they are missing slow and sow, making them less versatile. #4, and this may be an odd choice, would be Ranger. Yes, ranger gate and all of that. That being said, most groups don't actually NEED or even utilize a traditional tank. What they need is a melee class with high DPS that also adds utility. They need something to break mezzes while contributing to DPS and contributing to utility. Ranger has sow + snare. They are highly useful in dungeons with fast enemies like sola and are very powerful in any group with an Enchanter. They also get rid of the need for a shaman, allowing use of Magician instead. I would probably say #5 is Ogre Shadow Knight. They are the best traditional group tank. If a group does need a tank, they want a shadow knight. Aka if you can't build your group around Enchanter, you want to build it around a Shadow Knight = ). My ultimate composition is Enchanter, Cleric, Magician, and Ranger. Last two slots could honestly be two more Enchanters and I definitely prioritize finding 2 more Enchanters over any other class. That'd be a group of 5 DPS and 1 healer. Bonkers ;P. Also, the Ranger can just heal itself from the initial hits of engaging with mobs with a little support from Cleric when needed. Necromancer is definitely absolutely #1 for solo content, but they are meh for group content since their dots are useless and are only good for raid content once velious hits. Obviously in raids Enchanter is the absolute worst ; P. All they really do is buff. Most stuff in raid zones can't be charmed and mez'd, so once they buff they're more or less done =D. I'll also say Enchanter is the most fun to play in groups. You definitely won't be bored. It's not a class you can netflix while grinding on.
my number one would have to be hard and my 6 box is bard war cler enc wiz then I'll swap in what I need but good picks pally and SK are two sides of the same coin for me both really fun classes
You should have labeled your video, "My Personal Opinion." Of the Classes, from my experience, the best are 1, Rangers, 2, Druids, 3, Rogues, 4, Magicians, and 5, Wizards. It's almost as if we have different tastes, but maybe not that different as three of our favorites are the same.

5) Monk
Mage/Necro for solo or group.
5: Bard anything until Guktan is available
4: Enchanter Guktan or Dark Elf 2nd
3: Warrior Guktan or Dark Elf 2nd
2: Cleric Dark Elf
1: Cleric Guktan
6th would be a Wizard for sure Guktan or Dark Elf XD
one nice thing about pallys is you can pull and tank witch is a really fun and active way to play. liked seeing your pally i don't play anymore but i posted a video of my pally so id remember him
1.Ogre Shaman
2.Ogre Warrior
3. Troll SK
4.Gnome Necro , Dark Elf Necro
5. Erudite MAG
Runner ups
Iskar Beast lord
Human Bard
Races has to do with starts after AAs it doesn't matter much except Trolls, Iskar - HP regen , Ogre - No Frontal stun
Druid ftw
Ryan McGauley sounds amazing, i will be joining fv i guess... Need to choose a class
Shaman is my number 1!
Rogue, Druid, Warrior and Necro follow😎
Love that bard was on here. So many people don’t comprehend then power of music.
My type top-five have been shaman, shadow night, monk, warrior, necromancer. And the best race of all is ogre followed by Iksar.
Best classes - necro - mage - Druid - wiz
Warrior - bard
Zeru dark elf sk , povar 1999 - 2007. R.I.P. EQ
Sometimes you can’t go home .
Had the most fun playing Druid / bard / rogue
Nice unique list! My list consist of (Druid, monk, bard, rogue, and ranger)
Mage, Druid, Shammy, Paladin, Wizard
p99 magician number 1, assuming you can get epic pet, which is impossible. still most fun for me
What quest had you smoking Osama bins in the desert?
That's the difference I'd rather have a monk and an enchanter played by actual players than box my bard but if I don't have the option then I use my bard
Shows off what Paladins can do - fights lvl 10 mobs. I was surprised to see Paladin on top of the list, but in starting one up recently (and having started one originally) I was surprised at the huge combat and tanking boost they appear to have gotten in the past few years. Makes them much more enjoyable.
My main was always wizard, so I have an irrationally emotional attachment to that class. :)
That said, I also two-boxed an SK and Shaman combo which worked out pretty damn well. They could get a lot done between them.
If I had to choose a top 5 for me it would probably be:
5. Beastlord
4. Druid
3. Paladin
2. Shadow knight
1. Cleric
Minez- 1 bard, 2 wizard, 3 rogue, 4 beastlord, 5 berserker
Bard, Shammy, Necro and Enchanter. Loved the utility of those classes that were welcome in any party but also let you do crazy things and try fun challenges solo when nothing else was going on. Like who cares if it's effective to do it solo or not, it's fun lol. That's also why no other MMO ever clicked with me where you have zero utility to be creative and everything boils down to "is your dps high enough to burn X before it kills you?" lol
Top 5 for group content:
Shadow Knight, Cleric, Enchanter, Monk, Bard
Top 5 for raid utility:
Warrior, Cleric, Berserker, Monk, Bard
No way an SK is better in a group setting than a paladin. Berserker for raid utility? Umm... no.
Other than bard, all of these are in my lowest 5 haha.
EXACTLY LMAO
Bards Rules !!! yeah baby !
Pali was always a great grp and raid leader--in that same vein, I think SK is a pretty good #1 as well :D
SK was really hard to play in the beginning. The joke was that SK's were given pets to keep them company since no one would group with them.
dude I love the Paladin, I'm Drakkin/Paladin noob just starting and i hope they work on the game more to update it to bring in more folks...playing free right now until they hopefully make a change. Love the vid man, hope to see you inside!
go to project 99. otherwise wasting your time.
@@dyinhope6840 I think your name exactly explains why it's P99 that's the waste of time. I don't know why anyone would want to continually play in the absolute worst era of the game
Lay hands! It's saved many a life! Look at the epics pallys got in EQOA. They had lance that i wanted so damn bad... never did get it though... :(

Are you playing live or TLP server?
Kyle Winer I played live for a long time then went to Test
Excellent review, thank you. #1 was a shocker to me. My first and longest was a paladin and found it to be a masochistic route to go solo'ing because they have a spork effect, trying to do damage and heal while doing neither one very well. I didn't find groups to be much friendlier as they wanted a dedicated healer (cleric) or DPS (warrior/wizard). Warrior then became my top favourite, Wizard my second, Magician third, Ranger fourth. I have a high level Cleric that is very useful, but not very fun to "sit and heal at 40%" all of the time.
1. SK 2. Mage 3. Rogue 4. Shaman 5. Cleric
3 of your top 5 are also my top 5. Mage, bard, paladin.
Good top 5! Paladin was definitely #1!
I do keep my bard boxed but I like Enchanter Monk combo better in my group
I prefur shaman here, I've been main healer and main tank before, yah a little slow for group but with a good shaman you still do a decent group. I've even been called to random raids because I was so well known to fill in missing members. Dont have a perfectly full group call in a shaman, shamans can crowd control, dot, nuck, heal, buff and so on, never as good as main classes but as a generalist class they are a good goto class when you cannt get a full group. You just have to get a good player for that class.
Warrior = most difficult epic, also, when released, wasnt even the best weapon for a warrior......
Why didn't you describe the class that I play? My life is ....over......oh jesus..........i can't deal with life anymore
I remember in raids Pallys have to pop invincibility and eat enrage. Not a bad list. I was a bard myself
I could do things with my shammy that seemed impossible.
Personally i love my warrior, mage, shaman box team. I added a bard to this later but the first 3 are so good for me.
I liked bard. Battles are very involved, which is good. I twisted all songs manually and usedvthe whole bar most battles.
my number one would have to be hard and my 6 box is bard war cler enc wiz then I'll swap in what I need but good picks pally and SK are two sides of the same coin for me both really fun classes
Best Class/Race/Gender = Female Dark Elf Battle Cleric
Why not Enchanter!?
I'll agree to that
1. druid 2. magician 3. necro 4. enchanter 5 cleric*8P
Character name's stza, you a LOC fan?
watching further with a name like keasby nites you're clearly into ska, gonna stop commenting becuase I'm sure I'll see something else that pops out
I agree with paladin number one. They are great soloing, excellent pvp, and lots of utility.
Hell yeah necromancer
You and I have very different tastes in classes.
1. Shaman
2. Shadow knight
3. Enchanter
4. Necromancer
5. Druid
i'd go
1.necromancer
2. shaman
3. warrior/cleric
4. shadow knight
5. bard :D
hehe but at least we're in the ball park
My top 5 : enc, sk, wiz clr, bard and to round out my group with six ranger
Enchanter, Shaman, Cleric, Ranger, Rogue
5 best classes... SK, Cleric, Wizard, Enchanter, Monk...
He did
Necro, Monk, Shaman, Magician, Ranger.
sk nothing compares
probably only class that can solo certain named
I like sk too cus when they die on the named my mage pet can take over so there will be no more deaths.....
I thought pally was the worst?
The most nerfed classes are Druid and Necromancer.
Heh, none of your top 5 would have made my top 5.
me either except magician.
Indeed. Mine is Chanter, Necro, Shaman, Druid, SK. DOTS FTW!
Top three classes are Warrior, Cleric and Enchanter. The remaining two are usually Monk and (Insert any other class)
streetlight manifesto? Good stuff.
yeah this is your favorite 5 classes, not the top 5 in EQ, plz dont clickbait us.
Unbelievable don’t have chanter :(
I played back in the day, sullen Zek...kinda lookin now
Bards make the world go around.
Hello, from a fellow wizard on E'ci
Druid is number 1
