    Thank you for your videos and tutorials!! I love the "Cola de mono -nis". I grew several from seeds and they are are doing great! Very easy to grow and so beautiful. I got the seeds on ebay! I did not use the baggy method, just sowed the seeds into pots with a soil similar to yours, covered them for about 10 days with plastic and then watched them growing, watering sparingly every day. Temperatur at that time around 23 degrees Celsius. From 30 seeds I got 20 plants, they are now 2 years old and need repotting. 😍😍

    What a lovely furry cactus! I just purchased one online. What sort of potting mix would you use? A typical cactus mix? Also type of feed? Thanks x Does all the rain ever overwater your cacti? I’d be too afraid to keep mine out in Scotland.

      Thats fantastic you have bought one of these wonderful Monkey's tail cacti Georgina :-D I use a typical cactus mix and make my own soil mix of 3 equal parts of John innes number 2 soil with grit and horticultural sand, argh the rain yes I have had to bring mine back inside the polytunnel as its been raining so bad this July, torrential downpours haha, and its not good to have them outside when its raining every day, June was lovely and I move mine outside when the days are nice or just light rain, but this month I have had to keep it permanently inside the polytunnel as its rained every day, I use a tomato feed used at half the strength they recommend for tomatoes and use it with every 4th watering I give mine from April until Sept, thanks so much Georgina for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from Belfast to Scotland for a fantastic afternoon XXXX

    wow! I could listen to your pretty voice all day! I enjoyed this video greatly and just made a purchase of three monkey tail tails without roots. I plan on FINALLY have a full pot of this beautiful cacti! Could you please offer me some advice on propagation and care. Can I cut the tails just anywhere like we do with burros tail or is there a specific place I need to be mindful of? Can I root these tails in water? ANYTHING you could share would be appreciated!

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  Год назад

      Thats fantastic you have bought Monkey tail cuttings, the best place to cut the cuttings is from the very base of the tails as close to the main base of the Mother Cactus as possible, the cuttings need to fully dry before planting into dry cactus soil, they can't be rooted in water as the cuttings will rot, plant the cuttings about an inch and a half deep into very well draining cactus soil, and then keep the soil dry for about 2 weeks before very lightly watering the very top surface of the soil just enough to keep the very top surface damp and to help to encourage rooting, let the soil dry out fully again before lightly watering the very top surface, once the cutting has taken root and you can see the new growth you can water as normal every time the soil has totally dried out, good luck with your wonderful new cuttings and thanks so much Megan for your wonderful comment and for watching and wishing you a fantastic plant powered day XXXX

    Morning Lynn, Thank you for your wonderful video! I was hoping you might be able to offer some advice. I've grown two Monkey Tail plants from seed over the last year. Yay! They've been growing in a little humid tub, however I can't find any advice anywhere on what the next steps are. All videos online seem to be about the cactus seed growing part and not what you do with the seedlings. They are about 2 inches long right now and have tiny hairs; so not sure how long I should leave them in the box or start getting them out. Any tips and advice would be most appreciated! Big love xx

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  4 года назад +1

      Hi there :-D WOW this is AMAZING timing because I have transplanted my baby Monkeys tail cactus seedling, and I have the video coming on my channel this afternoon, and this is an amazing coincidence haha, well done on growing them from seed too, yes if they are 2 inches long you can very carefully transplant them into their own little pots, but its best to wait until the soil in their pots have totally dried out before transplanting them, this is to minimise any chance of root damage, and at 2 inches long they will be fine kept dry for a while, when you transplant them keep them dry in dry cactus soil for another week before watering them again, I will be doing this with my little Monkey tail seedling too, Good luck with your Monkeys tails, and thanks so much for watching and your wonderful comment XXXX

    Hello from Texas!
    I just recently attended a cacti and succulent show, I've been wanting one of these babies for 2 years mine is rather young and does not have the long white hair as if yet,
    it's the exact same species. However, what are you doing if anything to help develop its white long tendrils that appear to be hair like?
    Maybe a brighter spot?
    Thank you!

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  2 месяца назад

      Hi John, thats fantastic you have got one of these amazing Monkey tail cacti, the good news is as the cactus matures they grow the long white hair, when they are young they lack the long hair and only have short white spines, mine was quite bare when I first got it 9 years ago, the long white hair started to grow after a couple of years of having this cactus, they love a nice sunny position to encourage the hair growth, happy growing and thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Texas for a fantastic Sunday today XXXX

      Hi Newman, Thank you so much, thats wonderful news you have a Hildewintera, these cacti are amazing, because your climate is very dry and sunny in Winter you may be ok to overwinter your cactus outdoors, but to be on the safe side I think its best to bring your cactus inside for the Winter, this is because Hildewintera can suffer from stem damage if the temperatures drop too low even in an dry air climate, and I would recommend bring it inside for the winter, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Tuesday XXXX

    Super helpful video!
    Overwintering him in a room 50 degrees F, should he still be watered? What about 60 degrees? Redoing my cacti room this year and the furnace… and not sure how the temps are going to go. They will be somewhere in there. Would think to hold back water altogether except for a baby drink once a month if it were 60 degrees, not watering at all if it’s closer to 50. That sound ok?
    Also- do you spray yours all over when you do neem soaks and foliage sprays? (I’m sure yes, but just making sure! ❤️🌵)
    Thank you in advance! You’re the best!

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  2 года назад +1

      Thank you so much Mandy :-D Yes if your room will be above 50F you can give your Monkeys tail a light watering about once every 4-6 weeks, these Cacti have a bit of a habit of getting tip die back if kept too dry over the Winter in a warmer temp above 50F, but a light baby watering once every 4-6 weeks will be perfect for them, ideally these cacti do like a little bit of water in Winter compared to the other Desert cacti types, but I keep mine totally dry as its kept in the polytunnel during the Winter, yes I spray my cactus all over with the Neem oil and even the soil too, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Friday XXXX
