  • What is grafting, what is its horticultural application, and how do you remove a cactus from a graft? Today I'm talking about how I propagated and rooted my monkey tail cactus, as well as an update on where it's at now. This plant is still very much a work in progress, so they'll definitely be a part two coming along at some point 🌵What planty projects are you working on atm?

    Do you place the cuttings in moist soil or dry spil?

      I misted the topsoil just enough to keep it damp until I started to see roots, then I watered it as you would with a cactus (full drench, infrequently, let it have a period of being fully dried out between waterings). I really recommend using a clear pot as it made it so much easier to monitor! 😁

    In what kind of lighting are you placing them? Mine are thinning out not sure why

      I’ve had them one foot under a grow light also by window as well so some sun on top of that 😄 If you look at my last video I showed the Monkey Tail now and you can see one of them has very thin new growth, I think it’s the plant’s normal growth pattern tbh

    Can’t wait for spring to propagate mine , Do you recommend cinnamon to prevent rot ?

      Ooh exciting, propping plants is always so satisfying! 😊 I personally don’t think adding it made a difference. As long as it’s not sitting in a very wet substrate it should be fine, I hope yours root really well for you! 🤞

      Sofi have you ever used a heat mat for rooting cactus or any other ones?

    • @buildyourjungle
      @buildyourjungle  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes in the past I’ve used them to start my seedlings and it definitely speeded things along! I used a grate to keep them elevated off it a bit so the pots weren’t touching it directly. Hope that was helpful! 😁

    Will one tail put out pups ?

    • @buildyourjungle
      @buildyourjungle  7 месяцев назад +2

      Yes it will! 😁 Clippings of this plant seem to initially grow additional length, and eventually put out pups from the base to form more tails
