    I have received one as a birthday gift when I was in primary school, and I'm 52 now, so it has been with me for at least 40 years.
    Though it has a decent size, I can't say it has been growing very fast, and it has never bloomed, so I'm probably doing something wrong... not feeding it enough? not repotted in time? It does get a winter rest in a cool place with less water, and it gets a lot of light all year round, but it is always inside, I have never put it outside in Summer. I think our summers are too wet, it could stay wet all over for weeks on end, which is probably not good for it.
    The stems are a little thinner than yours, and more droopy, but for the rest it looks the same, same colour, and same type of difference in colour between new and old growth. It has 37 "legs" right now, and some are about half a meter long.
    I'm about to repot it and I was wondering whether I should plant it in one of those hanging pots like you have, because it is becoming impossible to put it in a plant stand or on a table, due to the many and very long legs.
    Currently it's in a terracotta pot but it hasn't been repotted in many years. I'm a little scared that a plastic hanging pot might cause root rot as I don't live in a very hot climate. (Belgium)
    Maybe I'll opt for a macrame hanging system with a terracotta pot. All my Epiphyllum cacti are suspended that way since two years, now and since I changed to that system they are doing great. Any advice you have to make it flower would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for the wonderful video, I will certainly check out your other ones as well, and I subscribed!

    Hi Maria! Love this cactus. Mine is at least 20 years old and blooms all summer long. Lots of people have the look but always comment on it! It really is difficult to move though, I have to wear some serious armor to move it in and out. I grow mine in a western exposure outdoors and southern in the winter.

      It is a super cool cactus...definitely something that will not blend in the background...this plant demands attention! LOL! And I was blessed to run across it...I'd be crazy to leave it and kicking myself the whole ride home. It is also exciting to see so many blooms developing, I can't wait for them to bloom. I will try to make a video of it when majority of the blooms have opened. Thanks for watching and HAPPY GROWING MY DEAR!

    I have a snake cactus, two types of Epiphyllums and a starfish cactus, all are in a mix of potting soil, small rocks, vermiculite with a bit of leaf mould. So far they are growing very well, I do give them a dry rest in the cooler months, but not too long a rest, they bloom constantly, thanks for sharing your cactus.

    I have 4, fell in love with my first and the rest is history, they can be quite addictive. There are different types, I have one that has white/silver hairs, it is so soft and tactile, not at all spiney, I think it's a Hildewintera colademononis.

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  4 года назад

      Me too...they are quite addictive! I love them so much because they are so visually interesting and very unique plants...and yes the colademononis also known as the monkey tail! They are sooooooo awesome! I had a little one for a little while until it accidentally fell out of its pot and I unknowingly stepped on it. It was not savable and I literally cried real tears I was so upset! I was heartbroken...so now I am on the hunt for another one of those amazing furry critters. I do love them!

    Did you plant those when they were small? How long does it take for them to get like that? I've just bought one, have it potted in a small sized pot but it's only small atm. I plan to move it into an old wheelbarrow where it can really grow. But looking at yours I think I'd rather have it hanging! Can you tell me how to water it?

    I’ve just received 4 stems of monkey tail cactus they already have
    the first root, do you have any recommendations on the soil to use
    🕷🪴🥰

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  3 года назад +1

      The best media to use is a cactus mix that is fast draining. They say to only mist these down sparingly until you notice growth. These can easily rot if it gets too much water. Grow it like a cactus and it will love you for it.

But beauty does lie in the eye of the beholder. I find myself an equal opportunist when it comes to plants...I love all of my plants from the classic beauties, all the way to the odd, not so beautiful and sometimes downright bizarre....The diversity of my garden is what makes my garden so beautiful to me. Todd's Tropicals I know!! The dog tail cactus continues to put out new growth and this one in the very short time I have had it is popping out buds left and right! It was a little neglected though so I am going to do a major repot and propagation on it to clean it up and give it a new start. Now I’m on the hunt for a monkey’s tail and will also go scouting for an aporocactus rat tail before I order online.

    Can u replant the little green ones?

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  4 года назад +1

      Why you most certainly can...the little growths can be removed and repotted. They will eventually grow their roots and become their own individual plants. Just be sure to water them sparingly when you first pot up to avoid any rotting issues. Thanks for watching and HAPPY GROWING!
