    Indeed fishing gear has evolved greatly since the 50's but I'd trade its fishery for all the new tech.

    As successful as you are John, it’s awesome to see you step outside the box and try something different. I own the tsunami slow pitch paired with an SGN and it’s a freakin dream! Keep it up John !

    love how candid you are. we all get out there with brand new gear and have to figure it out from time to time. glad you got on them and had fun. couldn't imagine running an entire spool of 40 lb mono. i used to run 12 lb mono on my schoolie rods growing up and it felt like an extension chord.

    Oh my Godess, John, you are the best! I swear I have been wanting to try "slow pitching" myself. I did the same.. watched a bunch of those Shimano videos with the Asian gentlemen just working it as if second nature. I picked up a Tsunami Slimwave last year and mainly have used it casting Hogy epoxies to Albies. But I know it's a slow pitching design and so I have been wanting to give it a go. (Also have an old Shimano Trevala, and wanted to compare the two using the technique.) Anyway... I'm so stoked that my favorite angler has done some experimenting with slow pitching and shared a video with us all. Very informative stuff regarding a niche technique that, coincidentally, I was thirsty for knowledge in. Actually, "squidding" is new to me as well (as I am a semi-newbie at this) so thanks for that info too. Awesome job figuring it all out and producing some nice fish. I expect there will be a run on slow pitching jigs at J&H by the time you read this.
    Thanks again!
    P.S. So... Ummmm... I'm assuming no forthcoming book titled "Slow Pitch Jigging with John Skinner?" Lol...

    Shimano makes a great one: flat fall. I went out and purchased this rod over the winter due to your other video with it. Paired it with a Tranx though. Haven’t used it yet. Going to use it for sea bass this weekend

    We use those jigs a lot over here, slow jigs are usually used for bottom fish (Snappers, Groupers and Breams) we just let it hit the bottom and give it a few cranks then let it fall back to the bottom. I don't know where striped bass feed but if they're not hanging around the bottom this technique is probably not very good for them. I would like to see you try this technique for porgies, I think this will be more successful there.

    Jon I was taught the slow pitch on a tuna boat outa Manasquan. Its much faster than the one rotation your using between pitches. This winter I ice fished Lakers on my Humminbird and MAN they dont make reels that can outrun those. Then we had a blitzkrieg in Raritan last month and the SAME thing, you could NOT outreel #20 fish.

    Hey John... Good content like always..
    I actually have the same set up but the rod is extra heavy and the reel is the 25 model. I'm going on vacation in the summer and going on one of those Gulfstream trips out of Myrtle Beach. Will this set up hold up to that kind of fishing?

    @justinhugh1875 6 лет назад +1

    Great video. It did not look like you were slow pitch jigging in the beginning. But it was hard to tell. Given that the squidding technique was working, you should have tried the short slow pitch. Which is a quicker and shorter crank lift and drop. Or, maybe a continuous bounce and crank like the deep drop guys do. Btw, it was probably too shallow to do.a slow pitch properly. The technique was meant to cover deep water columns.

    u r the first one that i know who suggest that hooks to be in the back not in front, i been doing same with great success.the question now is why everyone use it with hooks in the front??any one know the answer??

    • @ick5353
      @ick5353 6 лет назад

      Mohamed Elashaal because in slow pitch jigging, the main emphasis is usually getting the fish to bite on the fluttering fall of the jig. When the jig falls like that, it’s actually falling sideways so there is no “top” or “bottom”. One method is you lift and crank, lift and crank then control free spool the jig back down so it has an unencumbered flutter back down. This fluttering motion is often when the fish bite. When the fish see a fluttering baitfish (aka a dying or helpless baitfish) they will often attack the “head” and swallow it whole hence why the hooks are at the “front” where the “eyes” of the lure are.

    Reel on the way up not on the way down...you need the slack in the line for the jig to flutter...if you reel on the way down you reel in the slack & the jig doesn't flitter

      Spiral wrap does help with torquing, it also helps keep the line from catching on the guides while vertically pitching.

    • @Fj4LiFe23
      @Fj4LiFe23 2 года назад

      @@JohnSkinnerFishing on its second use the clicker knob popped off (first time testing it) J and H had me do a warranty claim through Bimini bay. On the call the guys at J and H said they've had lots of issues and told me if I had spoke to them first they would have recommended something else. After 2 whole months of dealing with Bimini bay they literally lost the reel after being completely terrible on their customer service end (one person is really to blame). The gentlemen from tackle advisors called me directly to take care of the issue and was beyond helpful. I also did not mean to imply that you would recommend anything inferior however if I had to deal with the company behind this reel again Id rather turn it into scrap metal.

      I appreciate your followup. Sounds like you had terrible luck with that particular customer service rep. I know a couple of the head guys there and their heads would explode if they read this because they're very conscientious. Cool of J&H to steer you away from something with problems. I have a Maxel Hybrid 20 and it's an absolute winch on the Florida reefs.
