Nice one I love canoe fishing, and I recently picked up some flies to try at the local trout pond. This technique looks very pleasant and relaxing compared to cast and retrieve. Paddle a bit, drift a bit, let the flies do their thing! Nice.

Hoping that your outings have been quality time soaking flies and your stuff out there on your local waters! You put it well... let the flies do their thing. Stretch occasionally, stand up and see how much water you can cover standing, recline when seated sometimes for another strectch from kneeling, but when this method shines/produces is when the fly is out, you're on your knees, and the paddle doesn't leave the water... PEACE

Good, instructional video...thank you. I'm in the process of outfitting my canoe for a local harbor here in Southern California and trolling for mackerel and whatever grabs a fly.

    • @anglingscorpiofishing9468

Sounds awesome, and would love to get a drone's-eye view of the (in my imagination) schools of mackerel following the bait that are following your fly behind your canoe before a steelhead comes out of nowhere and explodes on your might-be-a-shrimp-might-be-a-minnow pattern!! Surf perch, barred, redtail or otherwise, or a rockfish, or a corbina... As for around midcoast Maine, white perch is always the suprise catch for me, because if they were any bigger, I swear nobody would fish for anything else, or go swimming... Thank you for your interst, John, and for showing the technique off in your community!!

Much appreciate the encouragement on the method -- it is really canoe fishing! A spinning rod with a spoon on the end... awesome! A levelwind outfit with lead core and swivels and beads and blades and a minnow threaded onto a hook... awesome. Paddle, paddle, paddle. You are one with the boat and the paddle. They are extensions of you.

Nice video in a beautiful setting. The Canoe Instructor in me can't resist pointing out that PFD in bottom of boat is of no use in a capsize! Great use of the "Indian stroke" (please, no offence intended) or in more modern terms the "hunter stroke" for quiet paddling.

Sign me up for fly trolling from a Nice canoe like yours,BTW you'll need to hook me up with paddle, flyrod and reel, line weight forward please. We have beautiful rivers and lakes in my area(Clemson University) Pristine mountain Lake Keowee(motor exclusion zone)Lake HARTWELL with recreational boating high in popularity andvit boasts over 950 miles of shoreline. Then there is the Chatooga River, which leaving Burrells Ford eases you on little by little, whitewater class one eventially progresses to 2 and3. Next come the 7 steps or small waterfalls, many open canoes either get swamped or rolled.

I don't know, think you'd have better luck trolling behind a bass boat, I mean, you can't even mount a 200 hp Merc' on a canoe. Love it, the whole vid had a Bob Ross vibe.

Paul with the jokes lol. Love it! Also totally agree about the Bob Ross vibe. No fluff, just this is a craft that we love and this is how we do it. Simple, mellow, and to-the-point.

Thank goodness for the hungry trout, bass and perch in Megunticook -- they smash on the take. Experienced walleye anglers welcome, and would find trolling here a breeze in many respects. The same would go for for any popular technical trolling type fishery... the methods would apply directly. The key forage baitfish is smelt but there are many baitfish, as well as bugs and other goodies, so everything has a place, and did I mention that the resource is healthy and eager for food?! Thanks for checking us out!!

Should title this " how to troll in a canoe" I didn't see any actual fly fishing that couldn't be accomplished with any style rod. So you know. When people type in the key words that bring up this video.... this is not the information they are looking for.
