Beauty and the Beast is a 1991 American animated musical romantic fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Beauty and the Beast focuses on the relationship between the Beast, a prince who is magically transformed into a monster and his servants into household objects as punishment for his arrogance and cruelty, and Belle, a young woman whom he imprisons in his castle in exchange for her father's freedom. To break the curse, the Beast must learn to love Belle and earn her love in return before the last petal from an enchanted rose falls, or else he will remain a monster forever.

Yes, yes it is
Disney can be hit or miss at times but some of their hand drawn animated films really did feel magical.
Hit or miss
This movie stayed in my subconscious without ever knowing the plot properly from toddlerhood to teenagehood. The animation is truly something
Don’t forget this movie has CGI
Agreed
Bro, their classics aren't hit or miss. Gold era, Renaissance era and even a handful of movies that came after that are absolute peak. But now Disney cares about numbers first, making art second.
We all talk about how unfair it is that the witch turned Beast’s servants in objects, but the worst part is that some got the ability to speak and others didn’t.
All the ones that can talk are real people the dishes and stuff are just enchanted
"I have no mouth, and I must clean"
I bet one of them got turned in a toilet paper roll.
The witch was an asshole like most witches.

(spoilers for Bojack Horseman)
This is shown in Bojack when Mr. Peanutbutter builds Diane a “Belle Room” in their new house. He thinks he's doing a good thing for her, but Diane doesn't actually want it. She just wanted to have the idea of it. And that's the last straw for them getting a divorce.
Belle's face of "...the fuck?" after Prince Adam's transformation is priceless.
His name was Adam?
Belle was a furry.
FR
The disappointment is palpable
Adam should've had a stache and beard 😔
Probably the cruelest thing about Gaston is that despite sharing what he thought about the Beast in the song “Kill Beast” and that he described the Beast as a bloodthirsty savage, he was obviously aware of the Beast’s intelligence and knew that he wasn’t just some dumb animal as he made everyone else to believe. He talks to Beast throughout the fight showing that he clearly knows he can understand him. This might be giving him too much credit, but It’s possible that Gaston might’ve even realized that the Beast was a human being who had been cursed. But Gaston didn’t care about any of this, he just knew that Bell had feelings for him and he wanted to get rid of him.
The lead villain often knows the most deep down that they're wrong about what they're trying to accomplish.
For me, Gaston is the scariest Disney villain, second to Frollo
I don’t hear people talk about how Gaston basically got the whole town in on his plan to marry Belle, and they just set up a ceremony and everything. On top of that, he got everybody in on sending Maurice to the looney bin, which would leave Belle alone and vulnerable.
The scariest villain is the most convincing ones, and Gaston is basically a pillar of the community, so anything he says goes.
I accidentally read "cutest thing" and then was confused 😂
It’s insane that Disney’s more recent movies don’t hold up to their 90s catalog
that's like more than 2 decades ago movies change through out the Decades
Fr
Special place in hell for the '17 version.
Some modern Disney has been great
But you don't get the same artitic feel and epicness with conpiter animation
As you did with 2d
And the writing has gone down hill
You also have to remember tin rice, Elron john, Howard Ashman, Hans Zimmer and Alan menken
Eseentially made the nusic for beauty and the ebasr, lion king and etc
And that is unique group were aces in making these movies so powerful.
I feel Gaston rarely comes up when discussing Disney's best villains, and it's a real shame. He's obviously iconic because of all the memes, but when you look past how hilarious he is at face value, he's a genuinely effective and even low-key scary villain who plays into the story and its themes really well.
Misoginoir
Even serves a perfect foil to the Beast.
He's so iconic that he has a son in the Descendants movie trilogy
@@carlosalbuquerque22isn’t misogynoir when you’re black?

i hate how disney was the top tier but then destroyed their reputation later on
Literally in the 70's and 80's their reputation was in the toilet and then they made The Little Mermaid and turned it around
Disney always up and down. Wartime era, bronze era, post renaissance era. While there is bad, there’s always good too. We are just in the bad right now.
The issue has been executives and theirnleaderehip abd priorities with the company
Whatever you think of walt, yes he was a bussinessman but he also understood the importance of making a good film, good arstitics expression and something that mattered
The modern day ceos and board can't understand the concept of making something of vlaue
Only cashing in on it...
Michael Eisner and the current guy totally tanked the company's reputation and image
No one tell the boys that Hunchback of Notre Dame happens at the famous French cathedral.
What about Cinderella?
@@georgeprchal3924 Cinderella is the french version of the original story Ashputtel which is german. Because they didn't like the fact the stepsisters slice their own feet up to get their feet in the shoes and crows pecked out their eyes.
@@BaeBunni but is the Disney one French? I don't know, I've been wondering.
@@georgeprchal3924 yea but I think even the french version is still set in germany. But Cinderella is still vague either way.

No wonder this town doesn’t like Belle, she starts every day singing her “I’m so much better than everyone in this stupid town” song.
It's more of a "I'm bored of this town I want more than this" song
"Get me away from these provincial idiot backward peasants I deserve more than them for the reason of being ME" 😂 She was the actual beast all along. They nailed the Emma Watson casting for mediocre pretentious pseudointellectual putting themselves on a pedestal 💀
It's more of a "I want to have sex with a large furry" song
@@Cinnabun9 This town is so boooooring. God I can't wait to get out of here
She's a hipster. Basically Gaston is the only one in town that likes her aside the book merchant.
Someone pointed out to me that in the original film he surprises her with an entire library because Belle loves books.
In the live action, he insults her hobby, mansplains books to her and way like "yeah I have a library btw". Why I love the original is it's just pure wholesomeness and the live action doesn't have that beautiful romantic feel the og does. Anyways thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
They did this because people were complaining that Beast was only “manipulating” Belle into falling for him, so in the new version they “fixed” this by making it something that just kind of happened, they removed the Beast’s intent to remove the manipulation…. Because in the modern day gifts for someone you care about are apparently manipulations.

Watched this for my animation film class. Practically every girl ranted about how ugly the human version of Beast was. It ended with us debating whether it made us monsterfuckers or furries.
Our professor shut us down at that point.
Not a single dude commented during this debate.
What the end agreement?
To be fair that human design is So dissappointing like COME ON
First you must decide if the beast is a type of werewolf. That decision will decide if it counts as monsterfuckers or furries
i mean, we can hate the human form without wanting to fuck the beast form. doesnt make us furries unless you WANT beast form
Beast human form is the equivalent of remembering prince Eric from the little mermaid exist. It's plain and boring and removes all the magic.
It's sad that Disney+ re-cut the Human Again song when it was added back into the movie for the anniversary release 20 years ago. It's one of the best songs in the movie and it's about how the servants want to become human again and how they now have hope. It makes the later fight scene more powerful and meaningful.
I love ‘Human Again’, but it has always bothered me that in deep-cleaning the whole castle, they go into the forbidden West Wing. They should have tackled everything else BUT that, and left the Beast’s lair alone.
-I mean, that is his own private quarters after all, and the rose can still be damaged; every previous reason for its being off-limits still exists just as much as before. It was THE #1 rule of the castle. Yet somehow because of the all-important date night, suddenly the ban is lifted, and anyone may freely go traipsing in?

I find it lowkey hilarious that Belle, the "prisoner", literally leaves within the first night of being there.
Like, imagine Maurice barging into the pub to beg the townsfolk for help, getting rejected, then trudges home only to find Belle putting away the horse. He asks "However did you escape?" and she answers non-chalantly "Oh, he got mad at me for almost touching his magic rose, so I left."

since the whole age thing just doesn't add up in beauty and the beast i just imagine that when they were cursed they also stopped aging/start aging really slowly. because cursing a child is just so messed up and he was an adult in the paintings/stain glass.

Chip never aged throughout the Curse.
It's revealed in a flashback during Beauty and the Beast's Christmas that He was exactly that age the night they were all cursed
I remember the three identical girls who had a crush on Gaston were my favorites. Thinking back I probably had a crush on them
Tbh I like to think that everyone in the castle was in a state of suspended animation of sorts because they were turned into inanimate objects, so their natural/organic forms would not be able to change as long as they took care of their materials that they were made of as an object (polishing your silver to made sure it doesn't tarnish and etc) I also like to think that Chip has a chip in him both because of his name and because he is missing a tooth. :)
One thing that sticks out in my memory is how empty and intimidating the castle feels at first. Everyones voice echoes off the walls and it makes you think, "yes there are charming characters here, but its still being used as a prison."
7:57 BRO'S TOO POWERFUL! NO BDSM CAN CONTAIN HIM, HE'S ANTI-BDSM!
Belle being kind of off-put by the prince's human form is important thematically, the beast turning into a human was his reward for being a person worthy of someone else's love, not Belle's reward for being able to love a beast. She sees his eyes are the same (big baby blues, which he had even as a beast) and she accepts him for who he is once again. As a kid the beast sent an elderly woman begging for shelter back out into the cold to die, and so she revealed herself as a fairy and cursed him to be as monstrous on the outside as she felt he was on the inside. Him changing himself into a better person for Belle, not because Belle "made" him better, is how he was able to gain her love and she was able to break his curse. His face and body are also based on Greek sculptures, because animator reasons.
And yes, James Baxter and Howard Ashman were incredible, as were the many other people who worked on this film. If Disney had not axed their hand drawn animation team they would be in a very different place today.
I remember as a child, i was so frustrated when beast turns back into human. Not very sure why, but apart from him turning back into human form, i really love the movie lmaoo
Me too. It’s not even that I think the beast is handsome. It’s just he was like, disappointing? For me I think it’s the lip and hair color clash weirdly and make him look off.

The curse will be perment if not broken by his 21 birthday. Than we hear in the 'Be Our Guest' we learn it's been ten years already of being cursed.
So, the witch cursed a child, a 11 year old for his bad attitude. Him AND his servants? That really is messed up when you think about it.
The live action tries to fix that by saying the servants didn't do anything to stop their master from ruining his son but, they are servants. They can't be talking to their boss like that if they wanted to keep their job. So, ehhh.
