I think the reason Jack and Sally don’t interact a whooole lot during the movie is because they want you to assume they’ve been friends since before it, which is why Sally could tell something was going on with Jack. His behavior in the movie isn’t normal for him, but yeah if you don’t assume that their romance is honestly really funny lmao They released a comic recently that confirmed they knew each other as kids, along with some history on Jack and Oogie also. I think it’s because the script had to be rewritten because Tim Burton hated the idea of making Oogie Boogie Dr. Finkelstein in disguise so they were in a rush to rewrite it and didn’t get to flesh out their characters enough. Also you’ve got to remember the songs were written before the script was and the screenwriter (who just so happened to be Danny Elfman’s girlfriend at the time) wrote the script to match his songs but here it appears she didn’t match it up quite right because of the rushed rewrite.

On Netflix, there is a documentary called The Movies that Made Us and there is an episode for this movie. It just talks about details in how they made the movie. For example, one thing I found interesting was that they didn't have a script for a long time, so Danny Elfman had to start with the music to write the story. The soundtrack is so amazing, I listen to it on Halloween and sometimes Christmas (I see it more as a Halloween movie). Tim Burton was making this movie at the same time as Batman, so he couldn't be as involved as he wanted, so he let Henry Selick direct it. And it wasn't Disney's at first. They denied the movie, but then saw how well it was doing and had it rereleased as Disney.
Same! Although as a classical music enthusiast, I listen to the soundtrack any day of the year 😅 the whole score of this movie, even just the background music, is an absolute masterpiece. Every time I listen to it tingles run down my spine.
"The Nightmare Before Christmas is an underrated masterpiece"?! Bold title as if that wasn't already obvious! One of the best stop motion movies that still hold up to this day!
In the DMC clone, Jack got the Soul Robber. Weirdly, it was like the beta of Nero's fully upgraded Devil Bringer. You got grapples, it would shapeshift size and sharpness, and you could slingshot yourself. Jack himself is like proto Bayonetta even. He'll only actually die when he can't pay tribute for revivals (tho you literally have to pay in his game), he'll cartwheel and axel for dodging, he can steal mini boss weapons. Heck, multiple transformations instead of just Wicked Weaves/Devil Trigger that they only did with Bayo 3 and DMCV is done with Jack beforehand. It's so advanced for a kidified spiritual spinoff.
happy holidays to kor, eden , jack n all the editors , another year of growth and hardwork , happy to see the uploads every few days , hopefully next year will bring even more success to everyone involved with stm 🙏
The thing about Jack and Sally’s dynamic is that with the knowledge that Sally has been to the outside world aside from the laboratory at least 3 other times before the events of this movie, as well as Jack and Sally’s interaction, we can tell that they have definitely talked on multiple occasions, hence calling each other “friends”. However, at first in the movie I think they are more so acquaintances because their dynamic is more like a fangirl and the celebrity they swoon over since Sally is often seen watching from afar while Jack is showered with fame and applause. However, when Sally’s attempts to become closer to him, or make him notice her by gifting Jack that gift basket with the little bottle, that signified the start of their more friend-like dynamic. So throughout the course of this movie, since Jack and Sally have actually talked to each other multiple times, and with Sally showing worry and care towards Jack when creating his Sandy Claws costume, this strengthens their bond. So honestly it is reasonable that Jack calls her “his dearest friend” because she kind of is. the rest of the townsfolk don’t really talk to Jack in the way that a friend does, they treat him like a celebrity, only giving applause and appraisal. While Sally displays genuine care, concern, and compassion towards Jack in the way a friend does, and is the only one shown to do so, which is why it technically makes sense that they would be each other’s “dearest friend”. Even though when Jack goes missing for a bit when he travels to Christmas town the townsfolk do display worry and concern towards Jack being missing it is more in the sense of “how are we going to do next Halloween without him here?”, or “Nooo my favorite celebrity! I can’t believe he’s gone!”. It is simply not the same as Sally’s worry towards him. Like I’ve said, they have the most friend-like dynamic in this entire movie.
