Useful video Matt. You’ve missed a big feature though. If you set the mic to digital it opens up 4 channel audio so when you set your camera to record 4 channels then no matter what you’ve set the polar pattern for 1 and 2, you have an omni directional recording on channel 3 and an omni directional safety channel on 4, I think it’s 6 or 9 db less. I can’t remember. Personally I LOVE the stereo mode the best. It’s wonderful for broll.
Hi Matt, I picked up this mic in Tokyo, Japan and I love it! and... saved a TON! Thanks to no taxes as a tourist visiting the country. It is now mounted on my a6700.
Upon watching so many reviews of this microphone lots of people do not mention the fact that it is worth buying a hot shoe microphone for vlogging, on the go or behind the scenes the case is the fact that the headphone jack on any camera WILL NOT LAST FOR EVER for professional use in the field you'd definitely consider a microphone that is more professional of course it would come to connecting a headphone jack BUT the quality of the sound would be much more superior to the ears.
Love the mic BUT, filming last week, with it on the cardioid setting, sounds off mic sounded strange, like there was a phasing issue. As if the off mic voices were underwater. So beware if there are other sounds, particularly crowd voices, apart from the source you want.
Duly noted this mic would NOT replace your other mics that connect by a cable & this would definitely replace the crappy built in mics on any sony cameras the sound coming from this mic preforms very well can't wait to get my hands on one.
Hi! Thanks for the video. Your voice sounds much better when you''re talking about the ECM-M1 than when recording with it...I mean cleaner and with more presence and more bass than with ECM-M1.. why? which mic are you using for doing this video? Is it much better than ECM-M1? Many thanks! :)
TBQH I had no indication it was working quite frankly. The sound was so so low. I wish Sony gave us some kind of indication that this mic was connected properly and activated.
Matt! Love your vids. Set up my A7s iii using your settings. Cheers for that. What microphone are you using for the duration of this video? I checked your gear list, didn’t see it. Ed
Is the ultra-directional a mono or stereo file? I'm assuming stereo but also the safety omnidirectional tracks are mono but they capture omnidirectionally?
These are my concerns as well. We seem to have to choose between this or having a top handle/external monitor/etc. It would be nice if it still had a wired option unless it's well hidden.
@@philipbloom I mean this particular mic works with connecting to the sony mounting shoe to work...so it cant work on a cage shoe..that what i meant since you dont have any wire to connect in the cam...and on a second idea i was just telling that on my Gh5 cage, with a 7 inch monitor, i can't mount my rode video mic pro cause the mic is too big for the space i have between the mount shoe on the cage and the bottom of my screen in the configuration i have...if i want my monitor fixed lower than on the top of my handle...so i had to bought the little senheiser mke 200 so it can fit on the cage without interfer with the bottom of my 7 inch monitor :)
@@groupecmp9436 you mean it won’t work on a piece of metal that has no connectors? Erm no. But the mishoe is not covered over by cages. Your argument can be used for ALL mishoe accessories, the wireless mics, the K3M and everything else. The whole point is no cables and direct electronic connection.
You will not break your jack input… but you may break hot shoe, and would be disabled to use flash. Why to use flash if you can open damn aperture? I got you
My god. If you would not show how it works in the crowd of people, on the street or inside musical performance, it would be room vegetable nerd talking head review.
My god… It is bokeh sickness. Why cannot you choose beautiful background and stop down the aperture just a little bit?! Even the subject is blurred. And the background is crappy green and white soap bubble wallpaper. How lens manufactures marketing specialists made you believe it is beautiful!?

How much did you pay in Tokyo :)
@@Chimziee $30 USD less than MSRP in the states.
brought this two weeks ago - amazing mic for use at concerts / events / weddings & also quick interviews on a ronin rs3 pro
Have you tried it on a concert? if so which pattern did you choose? Thanks
Can you post a video so we can hear it?
Hola quw tal te fue en conciertos?

HELL YEAH! Now I can actually hear bridesmaids when they chirp in the background!
😂

this is how i felt too, it's just sound kinda digitalized, weird distort sound, but just no one talks about it
i can 3rd this its weird nobody ever says anything about this. Now im debating getting the b1m or just going back to my old rode
How does this stack up vs the senneheiser 440 stereo mic?
Sooooooooooo Matt, the question is, which one would you choose? The B1M or the M1 if you are only able to choose one?
I sent back the ecm-m1. ECM-B1m sounds definitely better
@@adriankrolikowski Thank you! Looks like I'm going ahead with the ECM-B1M then! :)
@@adriankrolikowskiI did the same.
@@adriankrolikowski how about the ECM-B10?
Wow! That's a really impressive mic! Excellent video as always, Matt :)

I don't understand what you are saying
Sony to continue to drop these audio Easter eggs ever since the a7RIV.

Add the capability for it to simultaneously record a copy of the audio in 32 bit float, and I'd be interested.
Did they fix the mount they tend to have a clicking noise if your walking or moving

How does it compare to the ECM-B1M/0 for family videos where subject is child moving around 5 to 10 feet away (indoors and out)?

Consistency is professionallity marker. I am surprised how constant is your T-Shirt. I want to believe it is not the same one 😂
Awesome mic, but seems like using a cage is out of the question with these internal powered mics?
Is there some trick to detaching this mic? I use it on my a6700 and sometimes it's a fight to get it off.
Regarding the Analogue and Digital switches, does this mean you can plug it in via cable aswell?
It's compatibility with A7III ?
is it just me? this mic has a lot of hezzz sound to me, especially when i wear earphone, can it be fixed with a firmware update? 😅
Yeah man it sounds really bad. I wish it wasn't so.

Hi! So if I buy ecm b1m for filming wedding and documentary is still okay in 2024?
I'll buy it one day . From Sri Lanka 😊
Do you have a link for this product?
Is it possible to connect M1 thru MI shoe and than something like "rode wireless go2" thru microphone jack ant get two way audio channel on my fx30 ?
this is thw question im looking for an answer as well
No - they cannot be used together. If the hotshoe has one of the mics attached it disables the 3.5mm jack.
Best settings for it?
really great
Dude is this comfortable with sony a6400
Could i still hook in my Rode wireless Pro to the red 3.5MM port and use those mics while catching ambient noise or audience questions with this mic?
No, won’t work
Matt is king!!
So basically this only works on the cam directly...if you have a cage , you can't use it?
These are my concerns as well. We seem to have to choose between this or having a top handle/external monitor/etc. It would be nice if it still had a wired option unless it's well hidden.
Which cage do you have that blocks the mi shoe? I have so many cages and they all have the mi shoe free

it lacks bass.
Nice - thanks Matt! No link to the other B1 mic review in the description : ruclips.net/video/8UywYDCwsTo/видео.html

But in my ears it lacks bass and sounds tinny.
For that price it's too bad quality imho.
