I have discussed with Dodge where claims of a 215 mph top speed in the Demon 170 was the official top speed. But Dodge has given me personally the results of an internal investigation of where did the claim came from. But is Dodge still liable for not addressing claims for months? Will a Dodge lawsuit actually be filed?

Dodge shared with me the scream @215mph teaser video is an easter egg and NOT an admission the Demon 170 top speed is 215 mph. Also the Mickey Thompson tires required a 149 mph governor at the last minute

What is the difference between the tires that came on the 18 Demon and the tires that are provided with the 23 Demon? Was there a top speed cutoff on the 18 Demon? If the tires are the only difference then just use the tires that are supplied on the 18. I don't remember any mention of a top speed limitation on the 18 for tires or was there a problem that was never mentioned? If the wheels and tires are the limiting factor do like Butter says and get some off a redeye. I brought that up after RacerX's video on the subject. But I also like Butter's idea of a crate package for the 170, that sounds like a very logical solution.

All dodge has to say the car is capable of 215 mph with race only upgrades but is limited to a lower speed for public safety
It's due to the tires. They are only rated for 149. As such the the car is governed to 149.
Replace the tires and raise the limit an it can do the 215

I had a 2008 RWD Grand Cherokee I had modified. Tires rated to 169 and it was gear limited to 171....it would never get there simply due to lack of power and being aerodynamically....a barn 😂 it was able to do 150+ tho.

I do have video of it at about 125 in at the top of 3rd when it had the stock axle ratio.
People gotta chill! The Demon 170 was built to run the quickest 1/4 mile of any modern production vehicle made in the USA. It achieves that goal. Anyone who has been around the automotive hobby, especially drag racing, knows what it takes to start shaving off tenths of a second, increase trap speeds by one or two MPH, etc. There's a point where you have to choose between quick 1/4 mile ET's or longer distance top speeds. You just can't have both in one package without modifications to do one or the other. I know guys who spent way more than the cost of a 170 to get under 9 seconds in the 1/4 mile. Those cars get trailered. You can drive your Demon 170 home after the races.

Also… Plaid stock won’t run 8s. You have to take out the entire interior, the front trunk, etc.
The only stock body one that ran 8s had to remove / cut out 500lbs of material from the body.

Dodge seriously mislead customers. Their own ad says "Quickest" and "Fastest", but slower than a scat pack. I know they have an asterisk noting that it's based on horsepower, but I call BS. That misleading ad was intentionally leaving out the fact that it's slower than advertised.

@@fastlyf98 it’s pretty well known in the car community that there are some guys who call fast cars “slow” because it makes them seem like they aren’t afraid of the power that car has, so they get desperate for attention and call the car slow so they sound cool. The car scene is mostly a PP measuring contest filled with some of the most insecure fucking people I’ve ever been exposed to in my entire life. Because a good percentage of them literally have no self worth and their car is how they define their significance to the world, so they get ultra defensive over the littlest shit. When I was still racing my Acura at the drag strip, I caught so much flak for gutting the interior of the car, I had death threats online and all sorts of shit, as if I stole THEIR car and gutted that instead of my own lmao. Most of the insecurity I dealt with was mostly online in the FB groups but it still blew my mind that there are people in the world who are hellbent on dragging someone else down just because they aren’t comfortable in their own skin.
I drag race. I would call it a pig a poke. Dodge engineers ran that time at the introduction in Vegas but nobody else has replicated it. Would not be surprised if the ECU was tweaked versus what shipped to the customer. I understand the concept of a quarter mile but they did not publicize the 149 limit until after they had your money. No previous drag variant has had a limit that low as the Super Stock was 168 MPH.

2025 gt500 is going to be 900hp, pump gas, same as demon but will go around a truck as well and not be restricted to 149mph. Regret is coming soon to 170 buyers especially at the prices paid
125 horse short. There is no other production car that runs sub 9 sec 1/4 mile and 0-60 in 1.66 sec. off the showroom floor. Anyone who knows anything about cars knows that a car built for drag racing ain't built for top speed. Who gives a flying turkey if it's limited to 150 mph when it has that kind of acceleration.

Honestly, I think Dodge will be ok on this. I personally haven't seen any official word by Dodge that 215 was the Demon 170's top speed. It's true that some of the marketing seems to suggest the Demon 170 is capable of insane speeds, but from what I've seen, it's subject to interpretation.
I also never saw that 215 top speed and I checked news on this 170 almost daily until I got mine

Just my take, but I don’t see where just a wheel/tire change will address the softer suspension setup. The car was just engineered for drag racing, not road course or top end time trials, not that it makes it lesser of a vehicle. Actually, it’s amazing that it still works as a decent road car.

Make it that you only can resale it back to dodge only type of title
few people UNDERSTAND that the car is electronially governed because it is sold as a drag car and the drag radial tires that it is sold with are not rated for those speeds. the dodge demon isn't sold with drag radials also this car is named demon 170 because the car is factory tuned to burn pure ethanol also known as alcohol which is 170 proof/octane. in all of those postings that was put up they clearly say their performance was on premium pump gas in most cases at best that maybe 93-95 octane with additives you might get 100 octane. if you want to go faster change tires to those that are rated for 180+mph and reflash the limiter chip.
The problem is not just the drag radials that limits the 170's top speed, but also "The New Hardened Drive Shaft" wasn't balanced for 200 + mph speeds. If someone was to unlock the pcm without replacing the drive shaft with another one that was properly balanced for 200 mph, it could end with the drive shaft coming apart at high speeds and injuring the driver.
Was the the dash creaking at that speed or was that some other sound ?
Correct me if I am wrong but Dodge made some last minute changes to the 170 engine for durability(pistons ?). My guess is this engine can not go to red line for more than lets say 10 seconds or it will blow up. It is good for only a 1/4 mile not just because of the tires.

In my humble opinion, yes it will go to trial and when it does in believe Dodge will loose. I also think they will loose the Durango Hellcat class action that I think has been filed.
I don’t understand why they are crying so much about the 149mph. You got the most powerful drag car dodge made. I thought a drag strip was either 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile. They didn’t build it to do the Texas mile. I think they are trying to find away to get the markup money back, stupid for paying it😂

What is crazy is they laim 8.9 sec @151 mph but yet set the limiter at 149 mph so you can never hit under 9 sec.
The Leprechaun's watch showing 140 represented the 2018's quarter mile top speed. When it showed his watch accelerating wildly; it's just showing how much faster the 170 is in a quarter mile. The 11 mph difference between the two in the quarter mile is A LOT!! It takes a lot more horsepower to do that. The suspension setup in the 170 is a lot different than the 2018. If they did offer another ECU with the limiter removed; it would also need to recalibrate the suspension; otherwise the 170 would possibly lose control at higher speeds. Even if a new ECM would adjust the shock dampening; the springs might also need to be changed to ones that will be stable at higher speeds.
They can get sued for claiming it’s 8:91 @151mph if the car will only go 149mph , I think that’s the problem with them getting sued .
it's not just the tires that cause the speed limiter. they say that the drive shaft is not designed for speeds over the speed limiter. It can break and get thrown thru the cabin, killing the people in the car. They did this as they worked hard to lower the weight of the demon as much as possible.

I don’t understand the outrage of the governor being at 149 when all you need is an unlocked pcm and a tuner and boom you can it 200 mph. The governor is because it needs it from factory to comply with regulations with a 1000 hp vehicle. Dodge made it seem the car is can only max out at 149 no matter what and said it’s not advised to go past that without heavy modifications. They’re saying this to still keep your warranty on the vehicle
There's more to it than that. Supposedly the driveshaft has issues as well as the cooling system. Then, there's the concern of voiding the warranty with a tune.

Where do we begin? Last Demon ever made would be the 2018 model. Lie. OG Demon owners would be given first priority on the Demon 170. Lie. First cars made would be customer orders guaranteed to be sold at MSRP. Lie. I can type an entire page. I own a RE. I was lied to repeatedly by both the dealership and Dodge and my initial order and my signed contract was cancelled. This smoke show required collusion with the regional Dodge rep and a whole laundry list of lies. I'm counting the days until this pack of thieves goes bankrupt and it will be here in the next 3-5 years.

I think everybody should be thankfull that dodge even exists.
It's more than the tires. The driveshaft and suspension can't handle those speeds safely either. Remember, the D170 has a drag suspension that can get very light on the front end at extreme speeds, and the driveshaft vibration is another issue. I'm in the drag car camp, and the Demon 170 is just fully titled towards drag racing and doesn't have the requisite kit to handle extreme speeds with any amount of safety.

It was stated from the beginning it was only 153 mph 1/4 mile drag car. Knew this a year ago that's why never wanted one for 100k can build a 8 second or faster charger

Wasn't it mentioned that it was speed limited due too the tires that come from the factory. I believe the drag tires are rated up to 150mph. The Demon 170 is capable of higher than 149mph. Change the tires back to the Nitto's
Limiting factor among other things is the hardened steel driveshaft per Dodge engineers. It would need to changed or caged and the suspension would need to be altered to be stable at speed. It's a pig and a poke. A driveshaft capable of handling the low end torque and top speed certainly exists but it was not used in this application. For proof of that statement check the Bugatti Chiron. 9 second quarter at 159 MPH to go with a a 261 top speed using 1500 HP. Without the limiter top speed is 301 MPH.
The only way the demon would run what they said was on a perfectly prepped track, of course it would be the same situation with this one

OK here’s the thing, if Dodge advertises that the 170 demon does 151 miles an hour at 8.9 seconds in the quarter mile, then why did they put a limiter of 149 miles an hour on the car. That would be false advertisement. I understand maybe for public safety and because the tires are only rated at 149 miles an hour. That they would put a limiter on it but still it seems like false advertisement. Maybe they should come out with a statement that because the tires are limited to 149 miles an hour they also had to put a limiter on the computer. Dodge is also advertising quarter-mile times not TopSpeeds. Thank you Butter for the video.
It can go over 149 limit for short periods of time to run 1/4 as dodge directly referenced, but after that it cuts power to 149. By short periods they probably mean 3 seconds or so🤷🏾♂️
The suspension and other components also aren't setup for higher speeds. The car is exclusively engineered for the quarter mile! If you want a faster Challenger with 215mph+ top speed, then purchase a redeye and send it to a large tuner like Hennessey that will give you a legit warranty.

Here is my take owning a lowly track ready 21' R/T that has a higher topspeed then a 100k Demon 170. I think 151 and high 8 ets is impressive. Chrysler neutered the 170 for sure with the excuse that powertrain and tires can't take higher topspeed. I think the owners have a leg to stand on.
9:20 I think this would be a very smart solution for Chrysler to make at this point to make it right with the owners. I mean it says Demon 170 yet it can't go even go 170. I also think a unlocked 170 can turn better ets and speed then what Chrylser is sharing.
170 stands for the alcohol mixture in the fuel. It has absolutely nothing to do with speed. Dodge never made top speed claims. The lawsuit is ridiculous and will get tossed out. 😅

Nobody mentioned Dodge said it did 8.9 in the 1/4 mile at 151 mph, but limited to 149 mph? Will stick with an 1100hp Corvette. Only 3300 lbs and ape shit bonkers on the street. Want to bring it to the TX mile, but anyone going over 200 needs a roll cage and I don't want to bother with that. Hope someone unlocks the Demon 170 and puts Toyo R888R's there, or similar, and rips 220 mph.
Dodge and dealerships are going to get sued. If this car was sold at MSRP or below it wouldn't be a big deal. Customers are paying 200k and over. This is going to have an effect on the value of the car. Over charge customers, treat them like crap and take advantage of them. Do you think they wouldn't want to sue ?

Did it occur to anyone that the variety of top speeds is because the cars had different axle ratios ?? A 2.73 axle will give a MUCH higher top speed than a 4.56 ratio.

Dodge or whoever should be sued for all this dealer and allocation nonsense. For people making claims about their product or throwing false information out there, probably not. Especially if the producers themselves never made these claims themselves.

2 key words to me you said, Demon 170 COULD DO and the 2018 Demon with the crate race ECU. Yes they do have to explain to the people in the back of the room. They should have said some lil work needs to be done to reach those speeds. I thought the hype for selling them was it makes 1025hp and that it was the last edition. Not it goes 215, man people complain about anything. The fact to think for them to legally sale a car with a race ECU is crazy. The government won’t let that happen. I ride motorcycles and nothing comes with anything for race that’s on the streets. The car will get to that speed faster than the scatpack and hellcats. They can’t sale you a car with an unlocked ECU or a race exhaust. Man I see why it’s so easy to scam people and I thought it was only the old folks.

Well for one. Dodge like all other manufacturers hold the legal right to advertise and say things that may or may not happen and not be held liable in anyway shape or form if vehicle claims do not match up to claims made previous. This happens all over all manufacturers since the 80s and will never change. So this is completely irrelevant and Dodge won’t have to say a damn word
Paying markup for limited speed is priceless
