How Fast is the Dodge Challenger? -- Top Speed Video - Every Engine Shown (2008-2023 V6 & V8s)

- Today's video is going to show the top speed of every single Dodge Challenger model since the return of the Challenger in 2008 (3.5L V6, 3.6L V6, 5.7L V8 Pre-Eagle and Eagle, 6.1L V8, 6.4L V8, and 6.2L Hellcat, Redeye, and Demon engines) done slowest to fastest. I’ve obtained footage of each vehicle doing a top speed acceleration. I’ll also add the official stats for each both with and without taking into account the governor which is electronically limited to match the tire capability the car came with.

‘08 Challenger SRT8 here, the most I hit was 130 on the freeway and that was enough for me! Just knowing it can go more is enough for me 😅. Oh yeah when I did hit 130mph I blew pass a sheriff that was hiding in the bushes. So by time I slowed down to 80 he was behind me. He hit the lights and I immediately pulled over! My saving grace was I immediately pulled over, I didn’t lie about my speed, all my papers was legit and he liked the car 🙏🏽. So he put 80 in 70 on the ticket and he told me if he had the car he would do the same thing 😂.

There's a speed trap in the adjacent town. So I was doing the limit in my rt. The cop in his v6 challenger couldn't take his eyes off of me or the car. One of the two. I didn't have a driver's license so it's smart to do the limit especially when you know where the speed traps are. It cause the driving license examiners are pricks. I had to take the dl test like ten times. They would faile for the most obscure reasons.im glad I got a dl.the bus is for the third world.

The fact that the hellcat can spin tires at over 60mph without trying is insane. That’s probably the reason there’s so many salvaged cats, the people don’t understand what kind of power they’re dealing with until they wrap it around a tree or worse.
Bumped into a kid in the dealer parts dept. He was waiting to get approved on a Hellcat loan. I told him please take a couple lessons for his own sake (and anyone on the road around him!).
2019 Challenger 392/Scat Pack with Dynamics/Plus/and T/A packages, 8-speed auto, fully stock on 91 octane pump gas. Can confirm top speed at 186MPH, with an additional ~5MPH downhill, hit an absolute top speed of 191MPH. Car felt like it could go much faster, because it still had some pull right before it hit top speed. FULLY STOCK, not even an aftermarket exhaust. Closed track in Mexico of course.

2017 SRT 392 Challenger. Fastest I've gone in it so far is 139 as I was limited by space to do safely and have room to slow. Still pulling pretty damn hard though and wanted more

@@PapaRabiiI don't take it as a dig. The car still had a ton of pull but I literally did that on a highway from 70-139 in a few seconds and then fast began approaching cars about 1/2 mile ahead. My old LT1 Z28 I topped 158, and my G8 GT I hit 142 in about 10 seconds from 70. Just need a nice open spot to give the car its legs 🤷🏽♂️
I'll just say that I'm glad that there are lots of low-traffic, well-maintained back roads where I live where I can open my Scat Pack up 😎🐝💨
2014 6spd 5.7 clad in white. Reached 155 in 5th while pulling a slight incline. I could feel the car hunkering down and becoming one with the road. 1 time event.

I’m on my 3 challenger since 2015 first one 4 years second 3 years and daughter drove it and got stolen and now I have last call 2023 and everyone of them I built and this will be the last unless they come back out with a hemi

My 16 707 hp hc went 191mph. Took it to the dealer for fluids and a check up a few days later and they laughed their asses off came back showed me the logged speed on the dash and I was like-I wanted to see how far this car would go stock as I never intended to keep this car stock to begin with, more of a base line. This was when they first came out.

All but a couple of these Challengers, have limiters built in, just like the limited stock tires. Some of these Demons are capable of 220 MPH and then some. I had a few cars that wanted to fly off at about 130MPH. Tires are everything, you can keep those lousy low profile speed rated ones. I hit just a little dip and they hopped me into the next lane at 120 MPH.
@@arnienelson6415 I agree the stock parreli low pro tires suck and should be illegal to sell them on a scat let alone a hellcat. When i first got mine it took me for a ride across a few lanes. Doing lower speed pulls and while doing higher one it didn’t matter. Frankly not a fan of the tire brand at all. Haven’t had that issue since changing them which was quickly.

As an apprentice mechanic working at a Dodge Dealership in 2002 , I had purchased a 1995 Dodge Avenger, 5 SPD. 2.0l.
There was this stretch of US119 the was known for its ability to accommodate Top Speed runs

Then , next morning the trans scattered the moment hit 3rd gear.
Turns out going that fast caused the drift pin too super heat and when it colled of it forged together.

In today's world, the odds are so far against you, weather it's you or the other guy. I guess at my age now, I still miss the fun and rush, but the good ole back roads are disappearing faster than the cars can go. I got a ride from an FBI agent in his personal Tesla Sport Car and to me it felt like riding in a Cadillac, only hearing the rush of wind going by at 130 MPH and that was the end of our country paved road, maybe about a quarter mile...
I bought my Scat Pack as an early retirement gift to myself.....traded in my 2008 Corvette C6. Went down in speed a bit, but up in fun and comfort level.

17 5.7 T/A 6 speed..... hit 140mph and it felt smooth but needed some more power to push it any further. The front end started feeling a little light as well. With some aero mods I'm curious how much further you might be able to push a 5.7

I grew up a block away from the Bettenhausen's home in the Sixties. Us kids didn't like playing in the downstairs room next to the garage while those Mopar Engines were firing up like a rocket taking off. When the 5 year commemoration of his death at Indy, they came down our street with blocks long Mopar Race cars and even several Dodge Daytona's with the giant wings on the trunk and the elongated noses they used at Indy 500. I believe that was 1968, I was turning 8 years old then. The rumble they presented was heard for miles and as I stood there watching these cars go by with my father, he was screaming at me to take my cap off in honor, but I couldn't hear him and I was just stunned at witnessing this glorious event. Many many years later I went back to Chicago on vacation and went to a White Sox game and the two daughters were sitting behind us and remembered me from a rain day as a kid and their mother called my mom to ask if it's okay to stay over there for lunch while those Mopar Engines were a poppin'.
One of the main reasons why I love my C6 ZO6 no crap supercharger just big block V8 and it's good in everything 0 to 60 3.5 seconds 11.5 second quarter mile and a great top speed of 198 great handling car just does everything really good. And so much potential for upgrades and a great price

I hit 130 in my '68 Imp years ago 😆 with a 250hp engine and no overdrive.
I hit 135 in my 1975 Oldsmobile 98 Regency 455 3 speed auto
My 2002 SVT Focus with just a 170hp DOHC FI 4 cyl. (non turbo) and a 6 spd. was good for 137mph! LOL

Charger 392 driver here and have personally hit 174mph and it was still pulling when I was quickly running out of road. I believe the Scatpacks can do at least 186mph. Ive seen another video on youtube hitting 181mph in theirs.
Scat pack is one of the lower trim models...

I did 139 MPH racing an infinity on my old 2014 Dodge Charger SE but I later found out most of my tires studs got loose.
1966 Pontiac Grand Prix boat, 154 mph, 254 rear end.350 gross hp. Corsa Dodge will do more with that net hp.
OK, I remember the 2+2, and Pontiac had a Bonneville that would run, also olds had a runner, not the GS but think back the rock 88, or something like that, man, everything would run if you could turn a wrench. But that 2+2 was a MF, damn it would run I mean top end, also them 428/29 torenos

2016 Scat Pack shaker w/ borla exhaust 176mph on open road but road bump made me pick foot up other than than she was still inhaling 93 octane with NO ethanol.
I went 155 mph in my 2015 challenger rt( going downhill slightly) also 165 mph in my 2010 srt8. Only mods were cold air intake in srt8 and cold air intake and Flowmaster exhaust in RT

I owned a 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Witebody. Only had it up to 187 mph so far.
171 in my 23 charger hc I’m kinda curious I know slim bodys apparently can hit 203 stock and widebody 198 but I’m wondering if you could hit 200 maybe going down hill

My '15 SRT 392 8 speed auto took forever to hit 175 while shaking apart and it took me an hour to recover from that. It began to fall apart shortly after and had to lemon law it after 22 svc calls in 24 months with everything from the radiator to the a/c to the trans and 3 THREE rear ends. At 51k miles the #5 cylinder went and that was it. I'm driving a 2017 ZL1 Camaro putting 770+hp, 640 to the wheels and won as many races as I've lost against hellcats. But I honestly still miss my Challenger, but the ZL1 thing works!! It's a true 200mph car, especially with the extra 120hp, I honestly only had it up to 185 and wussed out but it was still pulling and had a entire gear left at the 180 mph shift. No shaking, no airborne antics, smooth and as under control as it was at 100mph, which it hits in 7.3 seconds, only 3/10s faster than stock but above 100... Hold on. Just wanted to share as Dodge effed me and for some reason wouldn't fix my SRT!!! Took my check from Dodge and my $10k deposit on my 17 hellcat to buy the ZL1. When sanity returns and Dodge builds the hi HP HEMIS again I'll get another one.

2014 SRT8 core my top speed was 155Mph. I have a 2004 Viper and I’ve gone 185 in that. Do the Viper next!
I know my 09 r/t with the 6 speed and 3.92 rear (factory) shuts the fuel off at 149, just like the vid shows. I have almost all of 6th gear left. I also know that the sunroof starts to do some wild harmonics at that speed... lol
It doesn't shut fuel that would cause a dangerous Lean condition
The old fox body mustangs with a 302/5 liter and 5 speed came with 2.75 gears and would actually go faster in 4th than 5th except I had a highway patrol with 3.23 gears which would pull 5th. My hemi charger cop car comes wth slightly lower rear end gears also I think they claim 159 mph

2020 GT500 - fastest speed that I reached was 161MPH. The ground comes at you very quickly.

OK, in1970 I had a 69 GTX 440 W/650 carb, headers, bars stock. I was hitt,n 145mph on any day , 1/4 M I was around 13..3-4, This was quick for that day, but there were guy running faster but they had to tow in their rides. This was my daily driver, I was a senior in good old Bristol high. But man I was one of the Dodge boys, and we would run.
I had a 2017 Challenger to 135-140 it had the 5.7 hemi

Went 155ish looked when i let off and was at 154 in 5th gear at around 5,000 rpms in my 2011 srt8 chally pullin damn hard still had more in 5th and all of 6th but also a turn coming up 🙄

2022 regular scatpack 132mi ph, it was loose in front, didn't want to push it. Since added a front strut brace, no more loose feelings. Simply a rocket, fast enough for me at 150 + mi ph.

did 215 km/h (133.5 mph) in my 2015 SXT, I couldnt do more because the road was going to a curve

Okay can we just say, despite it's weight it performs really well in all forms, especially 0 to 60 cuz I've seen people pull much faster 0 to 60s in these cars than Dodge said you can, but imagine if these cars were also a lot lighter.. have they ever given a valuable reason behind the cars weight??

Never had my R/T 5.7 over 130. Just seemed insane….
Safety parts, emissions equipment, luxury items, the old Mercedes based 300 chassis is pretty heavy to begin with.
It has a sedan frame and is the last of the true muscle cars, big angular 2 door with a large engine. The weight is actually one of the only things giving the rear tires traction.
@@QGarrison I mean idk the Europeans make powerful cars too and their traction control and launch controls do well. Like I've said, when launched right I've seen 392s and Hellcats go faster than Dodge says they go.
@stellaa1328 they rely more on downforce then weight. Muscle cars have always had aero issues
2021 392 Charger here.... just exhaust and intake... I hit 179mph.... and still had a gear left.....

My first hellcat was a 2019 hellcat redeye. I took that baby up to 180 mph then I chickened out I am 76 years old!

The Demon 170 has factory limiter of 149 mph.

I believe that the dodge demon 170 with 1.025hp can do 225-230mph top speed.

Did you find that the top end speed changed for the challenger hellcat when it jumped from 707hp to 717hp?
10hp at that point isn’t going to do much. A low drag alignment, higher tire pressure, and some tape over body seams would help more.

Not good reviews-no mention of gear ratios though there is choices! My '70 R/T Charger 440/6 would run 160+ w/2.76 gears (bias ply tires lol) but run high 12s with 4.56 gears and a top speed of about 105-same car just different gears, that's how much difference gears make. Put highway cruising gears in any of them and see how fast they will go with no Rev limiter!

What is the purpose of a limiter? To protect the engine? The driver?
I said a bit about it in the beginning of the video, but it’s to make sure you can’t exceed the limit of what the stock tires (that came on the car from factory) can go. Obviously exceeding the limit of the tires could result in a bad blowout or injury/death at high speeds, so they just don’t let you go that fast. I don’t see another reason for it otherwise.
Sometimes they do it because tires and other times because the internals aren’t made to go that high. Like the mustang GT is known for being at 160 because the W rated tires not because anything else. The top speed should be 180.

It can exceed that speed briefly then the computer will bring it back to 149mph it’s not strictly due to tires but the driveshaft would shatter that can cause death and Dodge advised not to modify it to reach higher top speed. Literally the one trick pony. Redeye is the fastest muscle car.
