I have the Hero 12, Action 4, and I received the Pocket 3 yesterday. I tried the Pocket 3 at night around my neighborhood, and there were areas with very little lighting. I was shocked at how great the image quality was with the Pocket 3. The image was better than what my own eyes could see.

Thanks for breakin' everything down! But I have to say I'm all in on gimbal stabilization. It brings that natural motion blur that makes your footage looks cinematic. The faster shutter speed on GoPro or iPhone makes the shots look kind of jittery.

Im buying a Pocket 3 because theres a few real case uses for me. I photo and video food for clients and Im under time constraints - one possible shot is using my small ratrig slider with the P3 and track the product in center frame while sliding, this should be easy to do with the P3. Also occasionally I do need a walk and talk gimbal.

What a comprehensive video! Thanks for starting with a full screen comparison one after the next. For me personally I’d only ever use the Sony or a Dslr mounted on a stand as it’s better quality and a pocket 3 when I’m in locations where cameras are frowned upon as I’m often filming indoors or in low light. The GoPro is definitely the most fun for me to film with and I’m usually the most creative with it since it’s so small and handy but the use case for me is so small since it can only be used outdoors while I’m walking and talking in day light only. Considering getting the dji action 4 since it’s onboard mic is so much better than the go pros. I own a pocket 2 and while it’s great I still find it hard to carry and also it’s just clunky to film with cause of the gimbal. Also the pocket 3 isn’t wide enough for hand held vlogging in my opinion. My iPhone 13 I hate because it has horrible audio and really you can’t vlog with the back cameras and the front selfie camera is pretty narrow and horrible and unusable in low light. Really none of them are perfect and I own almost all of them without ever having used them for vlogging go figure

    • @Gemini_Connect

It's really difficult to decide. I love my GoPro 12 for diving and hiking. We even have the Insta360 x3, which is fun to use but that's it. The Pocket 3 feels like an excellent entry into a vlogging camera as well as the possibility of a studio camera. We planned on using the GoPro, but in the room we use, air circulation is an issue. As someone just stepping into the RUclips creation world... I'm leaning toward the Pocket 3 for everyday use and keeping the GoPro for my action shots.

I think as you said a combo of these would be ideal. Like the Pocket 3 low light ability, but there are times I'm doing something where there's a high probability of falling and dropping the camera, so an action cam is a must too. Then as also mentioned, we all always have a smartphone with us. I'm big on small and discreet, especially when traveling. And on a recent trip, noticed that not using a phone was an advantage, as people didn't realize I was shooting. So will continue to rock a few small options.

Awesome video, thank you. I used the GoPro 10 for years, but didn't find it reliable. I use my action camera almost every day so needed something which I could rely on! I switched to the DJI Action 4 and couldn't be happier. My iPhone 13 Pro is used for photos / b-roll / zoom shots. I had the Sony ZV-E10 but recently sold it as I wasn't using it and weight is a consideration for me as I do a lot of travel / hiking videos.

Action scenarios are very rare. For a day to day travel vlog or series i would go for Pocket 3. iPhones are great no doubt about that. But its still a phone. And many time i think the phone interrupts my travel shots. I have a Go Pro 8 and now paired with the pocket 3 i think its going to be at par.

The Pocket 3 is super impressive. Great low light capabilities, good audio, decent stabilization (minus the bouncing), decent bokeh and auto-focus. The only downsides are the fact that it's not weather resistant, doesn't have an external battery, no mic jack, and it just looks funny lol. I personally have the Sony ZV-1 and the Hero 10 but I recently ordered the Pocket 3 and should be here in a couple days. I got it because I wanted something that I could just grab and go that would do well in almost any lighting situation with little trouble. Like you, I find myself using my iphone a lot because it's handy. But I think the P3 could easily help even that up. Side note: Any of these cameras would do well if you got a little pocket light box and threw it on a hot-shoe. My 10 has horrible low light capabilities but with a nice little Ulanzi box light on the media mod it really changes the game.

Would you consider using pocket 3 as your main vlogging device instead of hero 12 ? A point for consideration is the form factor that makes pocket easier to hold, and hopefully fewer drop incidents ;) ( and as you mentioned, its robustness in low light situation ). Do let us know what your final workflow looks like in the end as I'm personally debating about which one to get for my "A-roll" footage ( iPhone for most of interleaving shots ).

This is the EXACT video I needed! I record all my footage with my iPhone 13 Pro. I do plan on eventually upgrading to the 15 Pro (or the 16 Pro if I wait long enough) but still want a proprietary camera for vlogging/streaming. I was on the cusp of pulling the trigger and buying the Sony ZV-1 II, but decided to wait a little. I then considered the GoPro Hero 12 because I rock climb and thought it would be cool to take that out on the trail, but eventually concluded that it wasn't worthwhile to buy a camera for the primary purpose of something that I probably won't use super often. I had heard about the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 when it first came out, but honestly thought it was a gimmick and that there was no way it would be a real contender in the world of vlogging. And yet here I am, after watching your video (plus several others now) with the DJI Pocket 3 Creator Combo sitting in my shopping cart.

As a vlogger the action cams tend to have an issue with keeping you in focus at handheld distance (without a selfie stick... just your arms length)... your face simply isn't at all in focus with the GoPro Hero 12 and with the Action 4 its a bit soft. the other cameras can focus at shorter distances and your face is properly in focus. great comparison!

@@Gemini_Connect In that upcoming video, I think it would be really interesting if you could briefly examine how the Pocket 3 handles exposure. There are many instances where it seems to overexpose the sky despite the fact that it should be performing the best when it comes to dynamic range. My guess is that DJI greatly prioritizes exposing faces, which IMO drastically reduces the overall image quality in many situations where the sky consequently gets clipped to oblivion. Thanks for the excellent comparisons!

for me the Sony RX100vi/vii are the best all in one. The viewfinder is fundamental in bright light. But I am ordering the Pocket 3, it also has a 1 inch sensor, the active tracking may be great for interviews, events, b roll and so on. Its limitation compared to the Sony is the single focal length and built in battery. I have the GoPro Hero 10 and 11 for water use. the Sony ZV-1 series is 26mm equiv at wide angle, does not have a viewfinder. I sold it, the RX100 series is a lot more flexible. The Pocket 3 seems small enough that it is easy to add to the kit. I had the original DJI Pocket, first series, the display was so small that i never used it and sold it. the Pocket 3 fixes all the issues of the previous generations (but a user replaceable battery would be nicer)

Great video. I'm looking for a small b cam so I don't have to be embarrassed with my gigantic mirrorleas full frame with gimbal. I would use a phone, but I hate not having the control. I'm really considering the pocket 3

I appreciated this video. It seems like the DJI Pocket 3 might be a great camera for a beginning vlogger? LIke me! Or am I crazy?

Thanks for the great video 😊
I’m a beginner creator and I’m currently having an I phone 13 plus pro (might update to the 16 plus pro later this year) and a go pro hero 10. So I was actually only looking for a decent mic and thought of getting the DJI wireless mic 2 system.
However after coming across the Osmo Pocket 3 I’m wondering if it would be worth buying it with the creator combo. It would be 300 dollars more expensive than the mic system alone. Obviously the mic system comes with 2 mics a charging case and a receiver which allows to use it on several devices.
Would it be worth to get the Osmo pocket 3 with my current set up and is a bluetooth mic reliable enough to use it also later with an I phone or any other devices?
Or would it make more sense to save the money, get the dji mic 2 set with 2 mics, charging box and receiver?

Please compare the dji pocket 3 vs the zve10 specially in low light with catalyst browse where the shutter speed is 1/200th. Thanks and cheers!

Best combo is BOTH your phone for underwater stuff (we already have this) AND DJI Pocket 3 (for the insane stabilization and best low light performance).

It really looks like with the action cams your face is slightly out of focus compared to background. I much prefer the Pocket 3 as it nails the focus on your face and blurs the background. I'm using my S22 and love it but it doesn't have constant FPS and when put into editing program it has to re render every frame because of that. Do you know if Iphone has constant FPS in the properties of their video files? I'm assuming the other cams in this video do have constant FPS.

Is anyone else noticing a slight issue with the lip sync starting at 0:35 and 17:02 with the DJI Mic 2 on the Pocket 3? Perhaps its just an editing thing and not a specific camera issue....But nevertheless amazing job with this comparison!! Also anyone else noticing a bit of an unnatural color shift with the Wide Angle Lens on the Pocket 3 at 5:18? Ive noticed this in other videos too.

What about the insa360 X series? How would that rate in this comparison. I have the iPhone and have used it extensively on my hiking channel, but seeing the new pocket 3 and then seeing what content creators have done with the insta360 X makes me wonder…

Missing the X3 or another 360 - as they would be in my list together with some gopros now - DJI Pocket seems very interesting, wish the sensor, mic and so on comes in another Actioncam without Gimbal, too.

i'm Currently using my S22 on a tripod with a wireless audio mic , with the mic attached to my lapel, i video myself in fishing matches and edit them and put them on my you tube channel . I now want to get a camera for doing this job, i am thinking Go pro 12 or DJ action 4 , or would the sony ZV-1F do the job . But i must be able to have a wireless Mic attachment as the camera will be away from me and there will be wind noise on some occasions . I also need to be able to hit record from a remote as i will be sitting on my seat box and i cant keep getting up and down during a match.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Great overview of all! I know from your precious videos/comments that you prefer the OA4 for most of your work and your partner the GoPro 12. I slightly prefer the GoPro footage (OA4 a bit too wide IMO) but functionality is a clear win on the OA4 (plus so much easier to have an external mic). In the end, most folks would be happy with any though likely not the Sony for vlogging or any action, not the Action Cameras in low light, and not the OP3 if doing much adventure or sports. The IPhone is kind of an all rounder…not often the best, but often good enough for most things and it’s almost always with you. Probably most folks would need two of these and feel complete. We use a Sony 3000 and an GoPro and I always find the Sony 3000 my favorite, but it’s stabilization isn’t quite good enough for walking (it’s ok for some), but otherwise much prefer it over the GoPro (which doesn’t have as good as audio and occasionally acts up). Struggle choosing its replacement…easy win is the OA4 for everyday use, but not as keen on FOV. OP3 appealing, but as you noted you kind of have to record differently. Maybe just upgrade my phone!

Thanks for another superb, objective, and very informative video! After watching your video comparing the GoPro 12 vs the Osmo Action 4, I was all ready to get the Action 4, except now I'm not so sure. Your review of the Pocket 3 also makes it a very compelling choice. One question I would like to ask is, have you ever had any issues with debris (like sand perhaps) affecting gimbal usage? My only concern for the Pocket 3 is build quality and the fact that it is not weatherproof. Thanks for your amazing videos. Oh, and I just subscribed! 🙂

    • @Gemini_Connect

I personally have not had issues with debris affecting the gimbal, but I don’t use the Pocket 3 in those kind of conditions, and I don’t recommend doing so. The Pocket 3 is awesome, but definitely prone to being affected by the elements, which is why I also keep an action camera around just in case.

Hi there, thanks for this Video. For my travelvlog I User a gopro 11 as well as an rather old samsung galaxy smartphone. The biggest Problem I have as an European is the framerate issue. I can not combine footage of the gopro and the smartphone if I don't Set the gopros framerate to 30 fps because the smartphone can't shoot in 25 fps. Which I would need to use because because the gopro eliminates the Light flicker here in Europe only if it is set to 25 fps. Using only one cam would be the solution but we are two people with olny one "real" camera. So i have to think about getting that expensive IPhone because the other cameras you showed do not convince me as backup camera for my wive.
