I 100% agree with your conclusion. It’s not even close. OP3 all day long. Honestly, I can’t wait for a “Pro” version of this with a S35 sensor and fast zoom lens. That will pretty much cover the remaining market. Traditional camera companies don’t seem to be thinking outside of the box. Hi David. in Regards to the DJI Pocket 3 , What if there are multiple people in the shot. Can you select it to track an individual person ? for example if I am shooting a football/soccer a game?
Well done on the comparison, smooth and easy to truly see which I need. Thank you for doing this video. One comment says, DJI Pro is coming? WOW! That will be amazing!!!
This has been the best video comparison I’ve seen, thank you! I currently have the zv-1 and have been debating whether or not to splurge on the OP3. You’ve convinced me! Also the battery life in the zv-1 is just awful.
Thank you for this comparison! I have the first zv1 and ordered the pocket 3 today. I want to mount the pocket 3 on my back and film a second rider via active track. Do you think this would work?
Ok we started making property videos in Portugal in the middle of 2023, and although we are still really learning they have been a great success business-wise. We need a new camera as we have been shooting on a Nikon d3400 we want 4k and as some of our properties have no lighting we need low-light capability. I have been looking at buying a Sony a7siii but after watching this would the DJI pocket serve me as well? Really appreciate your views.
Thank you for the video. Would you try to use the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 as a studio camera for indoor talking head videos for RUclips to see if we, beginners, can buy/have only 1 camera and make the process much easier and less overwhelming??
Thanks for the review...How does the DJI Pocket 3 compare with product show case? I do like the gimbal aspect very much...However I do like to shoot photos as well...Ugg...it's hard to chose...I'm just starting out...and need to upgrade from must my phone...Seems the newer phones does it...almost...Let me know your thoughts...
What is the maximum recording time. I am hoping it’s not the standard 25 minutes as on DSLR and mirrorless cameras. Do they take memory cards and is there a microphone jack?
Great video. I would love to buy Pocket 3 but I am kind of worried about the quality of material. Also that gimble think I find the mechanism fragile when opening and closing. And it always crack LOL. Moreover where I live, in the winter and autumn the temperatures are low. Welll I dont intend to go hiking with it to mountains when raining but you get the sense. I find Sony more durable and reliable. What do you think?
Pocket 3 has the advantage at capturing family vacation video with stabilization, 10 bit, and low light. I personally tend to capture a mixture of photos and video on my family vacations. The ZV1 destroys the pocket 3 for photography, 24fps raw, flash support, manual control, etc. The ZV1 also has a ton of additional video features you glossed over like ND filter, mic jack, manual control buttons on camera, superior eye tracking, zoom, web streaming, product showcase, etc. This review was pretty biased towards the pocket 3's advantages.
I have the zv-1 and the first two pockets. I love the first pocket and will definitely buy the 3 and I'll use it more than the zv-1. However, you make a good point, especially with the built in nd filter and mic input, plus the dead cat for the onboard mic. The first zv-1 is a great camera for most scenarios, as is the pocket 3.
Great comparison, thanks. A few points of detail - The Pocket 3 does have a fully articulating screen, in effect. You can move the screen relative to the camera lens to a considerable degree - and you only need one hand to do it - if you engage the gimbal lock. Of course for tracking you can attach the Sony to a separate gimbal, then compare using a more level playing field - but size and cost become the deciding factors. And then to keep the playing field even more level, you have to add in a good quality radio mic for the Sony.. what sort of total price are we talking about, to compare the cameras in a similar configuration? Hmmm... But you missed a significant difference - the Sony has a variable aperture and therefore variable depth of field. The Pocket 3 is fixed, so it will always significantly blur the background when talking to camera. Some people may not like that, stylistically.
Finally I'm taking the DJI creator combo for travelling 100% and my Lumix GH6 as my b-cam. Problem is I couldn't find the combo in any stores and online sites as it's always sold out.
Nice comparison! I manly use my cameras on my motorcycle. Would the pocket 3 be a good GoPro alternative if mounted on a motorcycle at Highway speeds or is the gimbal not strong enough?
Great stuff. Thanks. Thoughts or tips on batteries for the DJI? Also, thoughts on getting my DJI before August? 😅 I couldn’t find any on Amazon and ordered directly from the store.
The wireless mic on the Pocket 3 is certainly better than either camera's onboard mic, but I'm not overwhelmed by its performance. I've seen several videos with the wireless mic in use and the audio always sounds muddy/compressed/muffled. Can either wirless mics work with the Pocket 3 or only just DJI's microphone??
WOW, WHAT A DIFFERENCE. I THINK THE DJI POCKET HAS TO BE THE SYSTEM FOR ME. I WAS LEANING' MORE TOWARDS SONY, BUT NOW, AFTER WATCHIN THIS WICKED COOL VIDEO, I'VE CHANGED MY MIND. KILLER COMPARISON BROTHER. THANX SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO AND OUTSTANDING INFORMATION ON BOTH PLATFORMS... STAY COOL AND KEEP PUSHIN' ON... PEACE FROM CREEL CHIHUAHUA, MEXICO...🌎🧭📹
What if you only wanted to carry 1 camera for all outdoor/indoor family video, to replace a Sony mini 1080 camcorder, hc-455? Anything better than the ZV1 (not mk2) due to framing ability of the on-board framing zoom? Ace Pro was good, but family does not like camera in their face so 20+ mm seems better for a little more space between shooter and candid subjects? Love your video btw!
Honestly, for me it's the Pocket 3 as my family "dad cam" pretty much 90% of the time. It's such an easy camera to have on me and the tracking helps a ton with filming the kiddos!
Great comparison! I have one question. If I get the creator combo with the mic can I charge the mic via USB or just with the charging case? Because I don't have the charging case...
Great comparison, my only thought would be that the ZV-1 would be better as a studio cam (and of course as a photo camera) but otherwise the DJI is the hands-down winner from price to features and vlog quality.
What about the ability to use the DJI3 as a webcam via USB cable? That is the only reason that will make me go for DJI3 or ZV1 that already does that. Thanks for any feedback on that.
I liked the lens popper at the end. I really like the Pocket 3. It’s taken me a while to figure out what it is and how I might use it… it’s got so many advantages… thanks David. Excellent comparison video and AS ALWAYS super entertaining
Can you connect it to a PC via USB as some sort of webcam? I would buy it as an outdoor streamcam if it can run from USB power with autoframing like the OBSBOT camera or the Insta360 Link. Also the ZV-1 Mark II footage here looks bad. Is this new version so much worse than my original ZV-1 or did you use some weird settings? Personally the worse stabilisation is no big deal for me, since I use the Sony either as a "webcam" or mounted to a bigger gimbal-setup. I also love the high fps shots from my ZV-1. It's quiet easy to get beautiful and very stable b-rolls that way, even without a gimbal. :)
I’ve had the Pocket 3 for a few weeks and I’m still using my zv1. Both are good. Completely different tools. Locked off shots? The Pocket 3 is pretty annoying. It should have a built in 1/4 20 mount and a locked off gimbal mode. Moving shots, obviously the Pocket 3 wins. The mic is clearly great too. Would like it if the extra battery was higher mHa. Just depends what you need. I don’t know what everyone focuses so much on “walk and talk” vlogging - most people use tripods and for that the zv1 wins.
@@Tvj_films8452 Yep I do that - I've used it for lots of locked off shots. I just find setting up a tripod shot with a normal camera tends to be quicker and more consistent. Although the fact that the Pocket 3 is always level is a a nice bonus. I'm typically running 2 or 3 cameras so having the ZV1 and Pocket 3 is a good combination for me.
@@DavidManningvlog I would like a full locked mode for the gimbal, which would be a very simple firmware update. Move the tripod a bit to adjust your shot and the gimbal tries to compensate. Adjust with the joystick, turn the camera off, and you don't come back to the exact same place. Minor details.
Pocket 3 is incredible! I have also a a Sony ZV1 , the first version! So I can imagine the battle is lost in advance! Isn't it? Thanks for sharing your experience ! Cheers from France! Michael
On the DJI pocket3, am I able to use the wireless microphone and the microphone that’s attached to the camera gimbal itself at the same time? See I have somebody walking with me holding the gimbal and my audio at the same time. Will it pick up both?
On the DJI pocket, can I add additional mics? Say I am interviewing someone, can I buy additional mics? Or do I buy the rode mics and have DJI Pocket recognize the mics?
Can i still connect the dji mic to the pocket 3? I'm looking at getting the dji pocket kit. but i also have the sony zv 1 and i bought the dji mic kit for have better audio but i want to make sure i could still connect the OG dji mic to then have a second audio outlet for another person. Hope this makes sense. Your video was amazing and you have switched me over! I can't wait for my youtube videos to look so good!
As someone who owns and enjoys the ZV-1ii, what areas would you still prefer to use the Sony? Or would it be worthwhile selling the Sony for the Pocket 3…?
Mainly photo purposes. The 18-50 obviously gives you a bit more reach and the ZV-1 MII has a higher megapixel count. So for video, I would go for the Pocket 3 all day, but if I was taking a lot of photos as well, I would maybe keep the ZV-1 MII. Or use my iPhone for photos and the Pocket 3 for video
@@DavidManningvlog I would contend at that point ZV-1 mark1 with its 24-70 lens or even the RX100vii are better quick pocket cameras. Love my ZV-1ii but may have to try the Pocket3 with its size and quality.
That’s a very solid point! The RX100Vii with that 24-200mm lens is an incredible pocket PHOTO camera, but I think you’re right that if you’re looking to go video, the Pocket 3 is the way to go. Especially with that creator combo coming with the wireless mic!
I've been really interested in this & I wonder if the quality requires heavy editing or nah ? I'm doing semi professional work in interior space & most of the work gets published on social media. Low light is also a factor i worry about.
The ZV has more technical options… such as Picture Profile. For instance, I’d like to shoot in Black & White… does the Pocket3 allow picture profiles as such?
Hey how is it exposing a scene with no face in the frame. I've noticed on many reviews that the djip3 is killer exposing a face in the frame in most every situation, like your low light walk&talk. But what about in that same low light scene when you are talking and flip the camera around to show a POV shot ie no face in the frame, does the exposure lock and stay ?
Ended up selling my OP3. I'm not a walk and talking head shooter, and the hold it like an ice cream cone user experience made it very awkward to use. I think the OP3 is a better camera for most people, but in my paid side gig work, the ZV1's better optics, excellent AF, and more robust settings win out for me. And a lot of my work is pseudo-studio with theatre lighting, so I don't really need the OP3's low light ability (which I found to be somewhat aggressive; often needs to be dialed back -0.3 to -0.7 EV). So, cheers to the OP3 fans; you have a great camera. The ZV1 still has a place at the table, and for some of us, is still the better choice.
Hey David I’m a streamer over on Twitch and I use a Sony a5100 for my camera but I want to get started with RUclips and filming day in the life videos. I thought about using my camera but it just doesn’t ideal with having no internal audio. I was looking to upgrade and would love to hear what you think is the right choice for me even if it isn’t either of these two cameras you mentioned. Thank you.
I just bought a couple of months ago the DJI Osmo Action 4. If I had known the Osmo Pocket 3 was coming soon, I would have waited. Definitely that’s the device for vlogging, by far. Thanks for this video. Now I’m gonna have to pass my credit card. 🤪
I have the P3 and A3. They are different cameras designed for various purposes. I use both simultaneously and often at the same time, and they make a great pair. Over the past 12 years, I have created over 1000 videos on RUclips, using many cameras. The P3, due to its tracking capabilities, is the best one I've used so far. I set up the P3 on a tripod as my main camera, with the A3 hanging around my neck for a POV perspective. Both cameras are shooting in D-Log, making the cutting back and forth in Final Cut Pro X (FCX) after grading a perfect match. These two DJI cameras essentially serve as my entire video crew.
What kind of camera would you recommend for reels in low light? I’m a bodyworker/massage therapist trying to record short reels for IG to demo what I do. So a lot of my stuff is filming downward? Does the DJI still make sense to use especially since it does better in low light and can it record at an angle or will it always be level to the horizon as a stabilizer should? Thanks!
You convinced me on what to buy, keep these "pocket 3" video's coming

This has been the best video comparison I’ve seen, thank you! I currently have the zv-1 and have been debating whether or not to splurge on the OP3. You’ve convinced me!
Also the battery life in the zv-1 is just awful.
Can u show me how you colour corrected at 3:30? Novice here so would really appreciate it ! Great comparison video ❤
I had the Pocket 3 for one day and sold my ZVE1. For what I want this type of camera to do, its not even close.
one of the best reviews. the side-by-side comparison is the best!
I'd like to see comparison of Insta 360 ace pro vs DJIpocket 3
I just got the Osmo pocket 3. It's such a good deal to have the mic auto pair. Using it as a BTS camera makes for really quick setup.
A few points of detail -
The Pocket 3 does have a fully articulating screen, in effect.
But which camera are you using to shoot this video? Is it possible to shoot such a video with dji pocket 3?
Nice comparison! I manly use my cameras on my motorcycle. Would the pocket 3 be a good GoPro alternative if mounted on a motorcycle at Highway speeds or is the gimbal not strong enough?
I've got the Pocket 2 and I wouldn't mount that on any vehicle, the gimble is a bit fragile.
I've used it inside my car but never mounted outside.
No, don't use it on a motorcycle. It's not made for that. The gimbal can't stand it for long.
Can either wirless mics work with the Pocket 3 or only just DJI's microphone??
dji dealer told it can work with others as well
I've used mine with Hollyland Lark C1 wireless USB-C mics and they work great!
Can Osmo pocket be connected to OBS Studio for Live streaming with OBS Studio on RUclips?
@david are you wearing RayBan Meta's? If so, have you done a review on them? Can't seem to find one from you.
Coming soon! I made a big mistake that I'm trying to fix right now. Stay tuned!
@@DavidManningvlog thanks David!
@@DavidManningvlog Thanks, just worried about durability, thank you!
Great video. Now I want a pocket 3! Can the DJI mic (the first ones) be used with the pocket 3?
Yes but you need to plug the receiver into the usbc slot on the Pocket 3
Great comparison! I have one question. If I get the creator combo with the mic can I charge the mic via USB or just with the charging case? Because I don't have the charging case...
Just wondering if on the pocket 3 if more than one lapel mic thinger can be used. Like 2 to 3 people having a conversation, etc. Thanks
Thanks for any feedback on that.
what are the battery life comparisons?
Thanks for informative video, I will buy the pocket 3 in the next days. Exited to learn how to use it.
I liked the lens popper at the end. I really like the Pocket 3. It’s taken me a while to figure out what it is and how I might use it… it’s got so many advantages… thanks David. Excellent comparison video and AS ALWAYS super entertaining
Great comparison David... Is DJI pocket3 great for food video creation? I am still confused..
The DJI Pocket 3 can also be used as a Webcam for your laptop or desktop and is a much higher quality than the built-in webcams.
good points, did you ever get the answer on the ability to use the DJI3 as a webcam via USB cable? that will me the breaking pint for me. Thanks.
Turn off face detection. That shit ain’t moving anywhere. I shot static still shots all the time.
If you don't have face detect or tracking on, the Pocket 3 won't move on a locked off shot👍
I agree. I have both and the pocket 3 is no good for static shots because of the focus breathing. 🤙🏽
Great comparison once again, thanks! Is DJI at all weather proof?
No
Pocket 3 is incredible! I have also a a Sony ZV1 , the first version! So I can imagine the battle is lost in advance! Isn't it? Thanks for sharing your experience ! Cheers from France! Michael
Nice review 👍Can you add a second dgi mic to the pocket 3? For interviews
Apparently they purposefully made it incompatible with other DJI wireless mics which is ridiculous.
Outrageous Conclusion!!! ❤
On the DJI pocket3, am I able to use the wireless microphone and the microphone that’s attached to the camera gimbal itself at the same time?
See I have somebody walking with me holding the gimbal and my audio at the same time. Will it pick up both?
does th DJI have cinema mode like the Sony?? That's something love to feature in my videos.
wow man, this was pretty great. You've changed my mind.
On the DJI pocket, can I add additional mics? Say I am interviewing someone, can I buy additional mics? Or do I buy the rode mics and have DJI Pocket recognize the mics?
6:51 Don't be rude, say hello to the girl who is waving behind your back. 😂
Do you have a link to the Creator Combo Kit please with the Microphone?
For instance, I’d like to shoot in Black & White… does the Pocket3 allow picture profiles as such?
каждая секунда этого видео выполнена с максимально возможным мастерством, идеальная работа!
Pocket 3 absolutely but how does the battery life compare?
do you know the differnect in battery life? thanks
Hello, is it possible to buy one more Wireless Mic 2 if in Combo only 1. I can’t find it in any store, it is only in Combo.
Thank you.
What software would you use to edit the colours on the pocket 3
Final Cut Pro has some great features in there for color grading!
Awesome video man. What about taking pics?
I have a DJI mic system I use with my GoPro, if I were to get only the Pocket 3, will the DJI mic set still work with it?
What kind of camera would you recommend for reels in low light? I’m a bodyworker/massage therapist trying to record short reels for IG to demo what I do. So a lot of my stuff is filming downward? Does the DJI still make sense to use especially since it does better in low light and can it record at an angle or will it always be level to the horizon as a stabilizer should? Thanks!
Have you done a review on the Canon powershot V10?
Nope! Have you shot it? Pretty cool?
Im debating between the canon Powershot V10 and the DJI Pocket 3 .I was hoping maybe you had a video of your opinion on it
