    My Uncle Nate was born in Alabama in 1929. He worked hard all his life and rarely showed emotion. However, in 1988 when Doug Williams threw his fourth touchdown pass in the 2nd Quarter, my uncle started crying. Growing up in the segregated, Jim Crow South, my uncle said he never imagined a day when a Black man would quarterback a team in the Super Bowl, let alone win the game. Thank you, Doug Williams, for a most memorable day.

      Yo, that's great to hear. I mean, I hate that your uncle went through this awful unhuman situation (I was born in Brazil, so our segregation here can't even compare to America's), but I'm glad to hear that he got to see this Super Bowl. Came to see Doug Williams' SB game after I heard on the broadcast that Patrick Mahomes was only the 3rd black QB to have ever won the SB (#2 is my man DangeRUSS). I'm not a fan of D.C. football, but gotta admit I loved the history of this Super Bowl run!

      @Mr No Weapon well... I think the MAJOR difference here was that we never had segregation laws from 1900s onward (unlike 60s and 70s over there). Plus, black or mixed ethnicity are not a minorities here.

    Doug Williams has overcome the racial issues about what it means to be a black quarterback in the NFL. He is the reason why a lot of black men are playing the quarterback position today. I felt the NFL failed him at not developing him as the greatest quarterback to ever be effective as a pocket passer. Happy Super Bowl Sunday. Today I honor a Quarterback (QB) named Doug Williams, former QB of the Washington Redskins. Starting the season as a backup QB and going 0-2, Williams led the ‘Skins through the playoffs and to the Super Bowl. In doing so Williams became the first black QB to start in both a championship and Super Bowl games. En route to winning Super Bowl 22, Williams earned the Super Bowl 22 MVP award becoming the first black QB to ever receive the honor. Enjoy the game today!

    The most amazing thing about this: all four of his TD's and 35 of the 42 points were scored in the second quarter (15 mins). And the funniest thing is that the Broncos Tony Lily was the one who got burned on all of the long scoring plays. They picked on him all day and he even got decked by Art Monk when he blocked him

    • @jacquelinegafford6026
      @jacquelinegafford6026 3 года назад

      Tampa was too racist to pay Doug starting QB money. Even after he took Tampa (before Doug Tampa was the joke of the NFL) to the league Championship, one game away from the SB. Tampa still wanted to keep paying him rookie money. He was the lowest paid QB in the NFL. You know that if he had been white he would have at least gotten a raise, just to show that he was appreciated. Leaving Tampa was the best thing that he could have done for his family. BTW during the salary negotiations Doug's wife Janice had a brain tumor. So he was dealing with that also. Subsequently she passed away leaving him with an infant daughter to care for and no NFL contract. But God takes care of his own.

    After he tweaked his knee, he said that if he could stand up, he was going to play, and he meant it.
    Timmy Smith went for a SB record 204 yards rushing (and then he was out of the league quickly). Pro-bowler and GOAT CB Darrel Green was the fastest man in the league for years. Art Monk was like a 20 year pro bowl WR, in the HOF. Gary Clark a legit Pro-bowling WR, too. And DE's were Dexter Manley AND Charles Mann were both All Pros.

      He was 3rd in the voting. That is considered a win for the SWAC conference. No black QB from the black conferences has ever been that high in the Heisman vote.

      Chris Fraire that is indeed a fumble.
