Doug Williams stated before the Superbowl that he's playing for the Washington Redskins NOT Black America.

They also forgot to mention he was the game MVP. Doug Williams was always an erratic talent. When he was on target, like in that super bowl, he could be the best a QB could ever be. But too often, Williams had really bad games where he looked lost.
Even with his erratic play, he still managed to take Tampa, one of the worst franchises in the history of sports, not just football, to within a game from the super bowl. He couldnt play in the championship game, so Tampa lost and the Rams advanced.
The worst thing was he was the lowest paid QB while in Tampa. There were second string QBs in the league making more than Williams was. Even after losing his wife to cancer, Hugh Culverhouse refused to give Williams any more money. That’s cold dude and Culverhouse was not only cheap, but very frigid.
Tampa never became a respectable team until after Culverhouse finally died and new ownership took over. They brought in Tony Dungy and the rest is history.
For one quarter, Doug Williams was Johnny Unitas, Dan Marino and Tom Brady all rolled into one QB. The craziest quarter ever in a Super Bowl. Every ball he threw was a completion, no matter how deep. I couldn’t have been happier for Doug Williams. If you’ve ever met Doug, he is the nicest guy you could ever meet.
After all of the disrespect he suffered in Tampa, along with blatant racism, he finally got a chance to prove that he was the QB everyone expected after being drafted from Grambling.

This performance justified his draft status from the late 70s ppl forget he was a 1ST ROUND PICK 17TH OVERALL out of Grambling from the class of '78.Ppl in Tampa openly questioned why he was taken as a 1st round pick now they can see why.

Dwight Love Steve young or joe Montana was overall better. Williams had a legendary quarter but then he didn’t really do much for the rest of the game
