    Congrats! I really like the 40 f2. Center sharpness at f2 is as good as I need, AF is fast and quiet, it is a versatile field of view that still gives good subject separation - makes for a great compact kit! Hope you both enjoy it!

    If I remember correctly, the minimum focus distance refers to the distance between the camera sensor and the subject, not the lens and subject.

    • @jpdj2715
      @jpdj2715 3 месяца назад +2

      exactly and it always has been like that. On the op of your camera, you'll see a small circle with a line through its middle That indicates the sensor or film plane and that's (that plane) where distances are measured from.

    This is a vastly under-rated lens - been saying this for years - basically since it came out. It is small and light, but quite sharp for its price point - it has a nice rendition and it doesn't focus breathe unlike the competitors lenses of the same price point, which generally breathe badly. Its a little gem for just walking around etc.

    I quite like mine on a ZF. For 2nd hand stuff CEX is worth keeping an eye on as good prices everything comes with a 2 year warranty. I picked up a Z 24-70 F4 S for £330, with the warranty, absolute bargain.

    Apparently the plastic mount fits better and so doesn't have a gasket. I love the focal length but find it a bit soft at f2 though.

    Cool, I recently did a similar thing. I adopted one from a shelter - a non-SE from a 2nd hand shop for EUR 150. I think this is a very underrated lens for its size/price.

      @@russandloz no issues, but I don't use it as a main lens. It's a fun lens for me on the Zf, a more convenient supplement for the MF Voigtländer 50/1.0. Not decided yet, if I will get me a HN-3 lens-hood for it.

      @@russandloz yeah, I think for its size and weight, its pretty good. I like the 40mm perspective and use it when i want to travel light. You’ll notice that at max apertures the edges het a bit softer and loose some contrast. That’s where the 35mm f1.8 excels.

    I've used this lens a lot lately (2 weeks in Japan last year and recently 1 month in India this year), and was disappointed. I've come to the conclusion that it is only good for an emergency. Like you Russ, I hate the shape and handling of the Z 1.8's, but their images are beautiful and this crappy plastic fantastic is nothing like them. I'm off soon for two weeks in KL, and I certainly won't be taking this or the 28 plastic fantastic (even worse because it is only F4). For all of my paid events and documentary work, I use the more than gorgeous, 24-70 2.8s (made in Japan - yay), but it is rather big for traveling. So perhaps for my KL trip my main lens will be the much maligned, but I think the images are gorgeous, my Z35mm 1.8s, and then probably the zoom for some occasions and of course the amazing Z50mm 1.8s. I guarantee you will be selling this thing off again shortly.

    Personally, I wouldn’t buy a lens with a plastic lens mount. Eventually, the plastic will ware away and the lens won’t fit snugly anymore.

      I suspect the electronics inside these z lenses will likely crash and burn long before the plastic gives out.
