    • @RocketMagnetUK

It's a point and you could use a clear brown UV bottle like they use for lab chemicals.
Still you do have a 1 litre buffer in the vat.. so I think it's ultimately a non issue really.

OH my damn!!! out of the box, one build plate level set, and it's flawless!!! Elegoo is top-notch for the price point!! I can't wait till my Kickstarter order is shipped !!!! I'm so excited !!!!!

  • @rb75361

I did back this printer + the Anycubic Photon Ultra - DLP. Wondering if there is a big difference in resolution comparing with the Phrozen Sonic Mega 8K. Could you show some detailed prints side by side? I'm still trying to decide if I should keep the Photon Ultra as the build volume is really small. Great review! Thanks for the hard work!

    • @tedbowman965
      @tedbowman965 2 года назад +1

i also backed both printers. and today i spent several hours deciding if i wanted larger build volume with very nice detail 50um, and very well built with a metal chasis..
or if i wanted a super tiny one-two miniature at a time build plate.. and even better micro detailing.. "even though its considered 80um" and super cheap build quality.. as well as a very shitty slide in resin vat design...
i decided that the jupiter having worse overall print quality.. but its still superb, and being far far better in every other aspect. wins out.
i doubt the dlp lasting 20k hours and having slightly better micro details is worth fep's getting damaged over poor design. or just simply being limited to building 2"x 4" .
ill gladly spend that 550 i backed on the ultra on an extra 2-3 mlcd screen for the jupiter.
as excited as i am abbout dlp with everyone else. ill be waiting until there are medium sized dlp's at consumer level prices.

    • @rb75361
      @rb75361 2 года назад +1

@@tedbowman965 Same here, I will probably cancel my order for the Photon Ultra just because the printing volume is really small and price wise I'm not saving much. Also Phrozen is coming with some news today. Wondering if it's a smaller 8K 3D printer.

Before this, the setting could be configured in the gcode. And it was something that caused headaches with the first Saturn models because the lift distance was set to 3.5 mm. In some cases not enough to separate the model from the FEP during printing before it was switching to higher speed. ChiTuBox 1.9 requires a firmware update for the setting to take effect. You are also locked to use the new encrypted ctb format by that update.

Hey found out you gotten one and Im also confused about everything. Always wanted a 3D printer, could you do a complete beginner's guide of a recent safety video and what else products and investments we need for resin prints to clean or cure? Alternative curing methods until we can invest the appropriate cleaning prints. Do you clean it first or cure it first? Etc. I've seen you recommend stuff in some of your videos like masks and gloves, supersonic cleaners(??) With mean green, but could it be all in one video? To prepare while we wait for our printer? Please and thank you. Im lost when it comes to this. If it's too long, I'll be happy with part one and two. But I've looked up to you ever since I've seen you on tiktok and would love your best 2021 recommendations.

I bought a Saturn in 2020 and am fairly happy with it. I bought that upgrade from my OG Photon because a new "breakthru" had been made, in that case it was the bigger size and the mono 4K screen. From here I need another breakthru before I buy again, not just more resolution or bigger.
I think I'll wait till they get something like zero suction tech in these, I've heard its new tech that allows resin printers to just print in one continuous upward movement, no need to peel thin slices layers one by one.

My biggest concern is the storage of the little refill cap as you mentioned.
Lets say you let the printer sit for a couple of weeks, you have to store the cap to not get the resin to harden. Either you wash it out with ipa in between prints or you have to store it inside the printer :*

I backed the top package for 2 printers - I did plan on having them side by side - purely for space reasons. It would have been better to front USB and Rear vents. I know i’ll get 2 carbon air scrubbers. I use a 12” carbon filter with extractor rated to the volume of my room - works incredibly well
Like you stated about hanging the door, with 2 machines next to each other - it would be better to hinge the right machine on its right side - allowing the doors to open from the middle out!

That extension option is super cool! I could definitely use that feature! In general this seems like a really cool machine. I've got a Phrozen Sonic Mega 8k at home waiting to be set up but now, I'm seriously considering just selling it because this just seems like a much more functional machine. I know it's early on but I'd love to see a comparison video as this seems to me the best competition to that machine, and it's significantly cheaper.

The Mega8K has 43 microns XY resolution. The Jupiter has 51 microns. So on the paper, the Mega8K is better. If you want to print display pieces (miniatures, statues for painting), then a smaller XY resolution is better. BUT, you also need good (precision) resin. Try Longer 3D Deep Peach, Nova3D Red Wax or Resione M70 resin if you want better detail.
Tonight Phrozen will present the Sonic Mini 8K. For miniature printing this could be very interesting. My guess is, that we will get something in the 25-ish micron range for XY resolution. That's on the level of a Solus or EnvisionTEC DLP. With the right resin, we can print models that are good enough to be used as master model for resin casting. Provided the z-axis is stable enough and does not lead to failures with layer shifts.

guessing with the larger fep, like other of similar size. the retraction distance would need to be a fair bit higher due to the stretch on such a large area.
would be interested to see if elegoo has thought of selling (or including) a specific spacer or some sort of mechanism to get the FEP tension roughly right when replacing, especially since its raised, which adds another problematic dimension.
i know when i had to do my M2P for the first time it was a bit of a clencher as i really didnt know what to use. only because theres country differences with soda bottle tops etc.. (here in uk and the difference is marginal, but it caused my first attempt to damage the fep)

I'm going to try and use large syringes designed for pulling fork oil from dirt bikes. They're not expensive and have enough capacity to be relevant in what I see you guys doing. I'm a newbie and pre-ordered the Jupiter here. I do metal fabrication as a hobby. I wanted to be able to experiment with plastics as well.

What temp is the room your printing in? Wondering if a cool basement would be good?
    Thanks

I see a problem with the resin after a number of hours where the colour settles to the bottom of the vat, going to have to stir the resin somehow. Also, why waste so much space with the build plate so far away from the main support, reduce that and gain some height in build volume.

Hi Uncle Jessy, thank you for this helpful video! That make me think, can you give a tour of your studio and rate the printer you are using or you tried ? Maybe by printer size (small, medium and large), this would be super helpful! Thank you again!

Chitubox is NOT required. Elgoo reps said it will be Lychee compatiable.

Chitu based board is a DOA issue for me. Any company that is going to lock you in to their software based on hardware that they have sold to a manufacturer needs to be driven out of business. Any manufacturer that elects to use chitu boards and accepts that as a requirement need to go out of business with them.

    • @UncleJessy

I would agree that the locked boards needs to change and hopefully we hear some further updates soon. Being locked to one slicer really does stink

Elegoo has stated that Lychee will be able to run on these boards by the time they ship. Unless Chitubox changes their mind.

@@MageLeaderInc Lychee has been very open about their ability to work with the new locked down printers. Chitu has said that they intend to allow other software bus as of yet they have made no attempt for this to happen. You can build all of your supports in Lychee and then save the model out as an STL to be sliced in Chitubox. Elegoo has no say in what Chitu does.

@@MageLeaderInc I'd join the Lychee team discord and ask them about that. Last time (when Elegoo started the KS), they did not know anything about the alleged agreement between them and ChiTu. :D
