Hey everyone! Join me as I watch Madagascar 2 for the first time today! Alex and the old lady go for round 2 while he discovers where he comes from!
Alex (Ben Stiller), Morty (Chris Rock) and other zoo animals find a way to escape from Madagascar when the penguins reassemble a wrecked airplane. The precariously repaired craft stays airborne just long enough to make it to the African continent. There the New Yorkers encounter members of their own species for the first time. Africa proves to be a wild place, but Alex and company wonder if it is better than their Central Park home.

I absolutely love Alex' backstory from the beginning, especially because it adds so much more to the scene where he wakes up in a wooden crate in the first movie
Poor guy was traumatized as a little kid, taken by poachers, seeing his dad get shot before falling into the water, being trapped all alone and probably starving in that crate for who knows how long it took for that box to wash up in New York
It's no wonder that he freaked out at first when waking up in a crate all alone or when his crate landed in the sea and drifted away from the others
Because he had horrible PTSD from being in a wooden crate as a child and made him claustrophobic
Plus it kind of makes sense why Alex loves being the center of attention since he didn't see his parents again until he grew up.
Definitely the best movie in this franchise!

Based on the fact that Marty turned 10 in the first movie, I'd say that the time from Alex's departure to the return to Africa was nearly a decade.
One thing that's special about Madagascar is that each installment is different in it's own way. 1st one is about getting stuck on an island and 'welcome to the real world', second one was the most 'emotional' one with everyone finding their place, and Madagascar 3 well... I won't spoil it - I will say that it's not what you'd expect it to be. and then of course theirs penguins of Madagascar which you should also check out after finishing the trilogy.

Fun fact: The old lady was initially only supposed to appear in the Grand Central Station scene in the first movie but due to her popularity among the fans, she became a fairly major character in Madagascar 2.
Yes sir, the premise of Makunga wanting to lead the Lion Pride instead of Zuba is very much like The Lion King. When Makunga entered the scene in the beginning and challenged Zuba, I was like “okay I see what Dreamworks is doing.”
To be fair the premise of a would-be usurper wanting to gain the throne from the rightful king is one of the oldest stories there is. Just some people tell it with lions.

@@leaness98 Exactly. And even Shakespeare’s Hamlet was based on an earlier Danish story called the Revenge of Amleth by Saxo Grammaticus. Which itself had similarities to the legend of Orestes from Greek mythology

I saw Madagascar 2 in theaters with my cousins and we had a ball with this film! The comedic charm didn’t go stale, Alex got an interesting origin, and yes, the story delved into some serious content with Alex’s family. So yeah, I really enjoy this Madagascar sequel and your reaction Cody, is really good! Thanks for sharing bro.😁👍🏽

HTTYD 2 is amazing, but first and 3rd are better imo
@@kevinmalone584 I agree. I love all of them. In fact, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon to me are DreamWorks' best franchises because each sequel is better than the last. They understand the importance of keeping their quality consistent with their characters, animation and stories, just like a typical Pixar movie, only without trying to copy Pixar.
Kung fu Panda 2 is better than the first, same as Shrek 2 and Madagascar 2 but not How to Train Your Dragon 2

Ah man I forgot how much fun this movie was. The grandma was always the funniest. I loved always seeing her in this movie with her lines and actions. And I totally get the Lion King vibes. It has those parallels.
I never noticed that Zuba actually gets shot in the ear.
And he still has the scar. No pun intended
Anytime you see a scene where someone is on the wing of a plane messing with the wires, it’s a direct reference to a Twilight Zone episode about a gremlin. Both the black and white TV series, and the later color version remake had the episode. Both are iconic and have been referenced in pop culture numerous times.
I highly recommend checking them out.
The original had William Shatner as the main character. The remake had John Lithgow.
Both great actors who played the part of the poor passenger who was the only one who saw the gremlin destroying the wiring on the wing of the plane while in flight.
I just love it whenever I see an homage to it, ...but am often disappointed when people miss the reference entirely. It’s such a classic.

I love the logic of this film the plot in a nut shell "AHHHH We have no water!" said random animal "Then I Alex Will leave with my hat of fruit that is made from well you know hydrators to bring water to you," lol and I am glade you liked the second one as I said it is better then the first it is a favourite of mine and my family.

Love the movie. It's funny because Madagascar 2 was the only Madagascar movie I grew up with and I didn't watch the other two movies until much later in life, but seeing your reaction to this movie is just so cool!

this one is the funniest of the trilogy,but having seen the first as a kid,I have a soft spot for it and overall,I think it's a better movie,but Madagascar 2 comes right after.

As funny as the first one was. The sequels definitely had more emotional moments. Me and my dad always die laughing at the beginning cuz that was the worst plane launch and crash we’ve ever seen. XD
Fun fact: Mort on the wing, combined with melman smashing his face against the window, is actually a twilight zone reference, from the episode Nightmare at 20,000 Feet.
Essentially someone sees something on the wing of the plane, but no one else sees it but him.
Big and Chunky is basically Baby Got Back's younger more "for kids" brother...
