This song is from their first LP XXI Century Blood. Dany wrote this while she and her sister were attending Berklee College of Music in Boston as a song writing exercise. She was so homesick that she ended up writing this song.

*When I'm Alone* is Dany's song... Ale and Pau accompany with only their instruments... no harmonies or backing vocals... the blacked out solo beginning and ending with Dany alone in the spotlight is beautiful and quite fitting for this song and what it represents...
15 year old Dany wrote this when the girls were at Berklee Music College (aka BMC) in Boston back in 2015 attending the summer session they offer(ed)... she got very homesick and also had a homework task to write a song... she hadn't any ideas, time was running out, and being homesick was devastating... she recorded a teary vlog about it... afterward she realized she could harness the emotions and pain she was feeling to write her song... i haven't heard what grade she got for it but many of us hope it was an A+... Dany has also stated several times that when she writes a song, it is from her heart and whatever emotions she is feeling at the time... so here we are enjoying this truly heartfelt song of loneliness and heartache...
speaking of Berklee Music College, their concert at "Liceo" (basically Spanish for "learning place" or "high school") had multiple purposes... for one purpose, the story is that they needed something to submit to Berklee showing Ale's and Pau's chops and how well they played their instruments... this because both of them were less than 15 years old which is/was the age cut off for the summer program they were wanting to attend... so each of them chose a song to show off their talents... IIRC, those songs were "Hysteria" for Ale, "Everlong" for Pau, and "Crazy Train" for Dany... apparently BMC accepted their submissions because all three girls attended at the same time... while they were there they did vlogs to send to Ellen DeGeneres to keep her and her show up to date on how they were doing while at BMC... this because Ellen and Target gave each of the girls a check to help pay for them to attend the summer session at BMC...

This is a beautiful song her performance on acoustic in Mexico last fall was amazing to watch. To write a song of this quality at 15 is very impressive and Dany's little solo is cherry on top for me. Great reaction thank you. 🔥⚡

I am a diehard Dany stan - I will watch any Dany midnight concert that pops up in my feed. If you don't know what that is, for self promotion when they were independent each of the members would live stream on social media doing all sorts of things. One of Day's favorites was to do a solo concert in the middle of the night. Just her a guitar and an iPhone pointed at her. True artistry. Sometimes she played planned songs and sometimes she played requests. I saw one where she did short versions of at least three dozen songs including Disney tunes, pop punk songs, songs in Spanish and other things that ppl in the stream requested. She is a treasure.

Dany wrote a perfect, classic rock song at 15. There is so much talent and potential and, after 10 years, they're really just getting started. Great reaction to one of my absolute favorite songs...from any band. There is a video retrospective that was presented at their 10 Year Anniversary concert and there is a moment when Dany is asked a specific question. Now that you've watched this, watch that one with this song in mind. They not only wear their hearts on their sleeves, they share their hearts with all of us.

Now that this band has an EP and four albums behind them, this song still stands as one of their all time best. It was an honest cry in the dark from a homesick kid. That first album hits HARD. All their work is special, but their first is full of deeply felt emotional material from three young kids. They are old souls, writing far beyond their years. If you haven't heard Black Holes, give a listen to it at the Dakota Bar 2018. Have a box of tissues near by.

This son was not my favorite at first but with Pau's enhance drum filsl, it has become one om my favorites.... if you want to hear Pau singing, do 23 and then do Animosity, Amour and Kool Aid Kids where Dany Sings .... all from the same concert but it showcases their immense talent.

There's an acoustic version out there that is amazing. Unfortunately it's a fan shot video so the sound isn't great (it's not bad but not on par with their official releases).
