This looks so easy when you do it!!! Thanks so much for your video! I'm going to measure and order my hinges right now. Can't wait to see the finished project!!
So glad I found this video two days ago. I ordered soft clothes hinges from Amazon. They arrived yesterday. My husband installed them. It only took about one minute per door. The results are awesome. No more banging cabinets. We only used one hinge per door and that was all that was needed. Thank you for inspiring me.
Wow ! Thank you so much for this info . You explained it better than the majority of the other videos I watched trying to figure out what " overlay " is when trying to replace old hinges to soft close hinges .
Yes!!! Thank you sistah! Loved the video & your encouragement. I like to fix things too, so it makes me happy to see women empower others to do the same. After watching your video, I was like, "oh yah, I need soft close cabinets!" (cuz I make videos too & hear the cabinets open & close all the time! And it DOES drive me cRaZy too!) I've made 4 faux firesplaces so far, which came out great. Stop by if you have a moment =) High fives! #WeCanDoIt =)
Super helpful on hinge installation! Maybe do a add on video about the drilling of the circles with a paddle bit for the inserted part of the soft close hinge.
Great explanation… Here is an easier way Leave the top hinge in place unscrew the bottom hinge. install new hinge on the door, then align onto face, reattach with screw… After bottom hinge is complete repeat process on the upper hinge.
Could you possibly do a video on how to do full extension drawer Glides? My cabinets are about 20 years old and the other videos on RUclips are kind of confusing. I think you could explain it better. Thanks!
Excellent video! Would also have been super helpful to advise on the width of the frame and how to measure so you buy the right size as well as the overlay. :)
Thank you Whitney. I told the guy at HD that I wanted soft closed hinges. I made a new shaker door, set the hinges and they slammed closed. What??? Your comment/exposure of the "hydraulics" revealed that the HD guy gave me the wrong hinge-set. So since your video was so helpful, can you answer the following: While the non-hinged side of the door panel is flush with the face frame (when closed), is the hinged side also flush with the face frame or does it stick out a little (slight gap between the door panel and the face frame on the hinge side)?
Maybe a stupid question. Do you have to replace both top and bottom hinges with soft close or just one? My doors have three hinges so would I have to replace all three hinges?!
Not a stupid question! I replaced both but I’ve had a lot of people in the comments say they only replaced one and it worked just fine. Start out by replacing just one then go from there!
The overlay from my original (spelled OLD) cabinet hinges doesn't match the overlay from the new hinges I ordered - cabinet doesn't close - overlay needs to be "longer"? What to buy?
To prevent messing up the screw holes, you can just start the screws in by hand; a couple turns should be enough, then hit it with the drill. . Also, a lot of cordless drills have number rings around the front; those are for adjusting the maximum torque (turn strength), which can be dialed into where the drill will auto-stop when the screw is in all the way. That lets you really lean into things and "give it the gusto" without fear of over-tightening.
How do you adjust the actual soft close? The instructions show a little tiny plastic “arrow” but no indication on how to rotate it to go from strong to medium to light close
The easiest way to measure is to open the door, slide your tape measure between the door and frame, hook it on the frame, and close the door on the tape, and that number is your overlay
Measure the opening and then measure the door. Subtract the difference and decide by 2. That's your overlay size...😊 If the door is 1" bigger than the hole it is a 1/2" overlay.
It's much easier to put the hinge on the cabinet frame first, then attach the door. Pop the hinge into the hole in the cabinet door and that will support most of the weight. You should also always screw the hinges into the cabinet by hand. It is way too easy to strip out the screws with a power driver.
Hmmm.... you’re sure you have a face frame and you’re measuring from the edge of the cabinet door to the inside of the face frame? 1/2” will probably work. Take off one hinge from the 3/4” measurement door and one from the 1/4” measurement door and compare them. If they match try swapping them for each other and see if the cabinets doors close correctly when swapped. If that works then take that into your hardware store and see if they match up with the 1/2” soft close hinges. The person who installed your cabinets might not have used a template when drilling the holes for the hinges so the hinges are sitting at random widths... or they are custom built cabinets and someone MacGyvered the hinges to adjust for cabinet width?! Let me know if this helps.
You got lucky that those holes aligned, since you didn’t mention hole pattern, but everyone else might not be as lucky. Door offset alone does not determine hole pattern, as this varies even within the same brand.
I would have loved to get custom cabinets installed but unfortunately thats something my shoestring budget wouldn’t allow for. I think these cabinets are a great option for budget conscious renovations that you can install yourself!
@@GRB22 That could be a description for the video in its entirety. Its the equivalent of dubs on a ten year old Hyundai. If people thought outside the box as in box store they would find a small cabinet shop can produce very high quity cabinets for dramatically less than bix box stores. A little research and common sense can go a long way.

One hinge did the trick? Nice!
It took me forever to find someone to explain how to measure for replacement hinges. This was perfect! Thank you!
Happy to help!
Very well explained. I wasn't sure what the overlay was on my cabinet door. Thank you. 😊
Thank you, ma’am. Your video was just what I needed. Now I feel confident to change mine! I cannot wait. 😊
Wonderful. Thanks.

I just refinished my kitchen cabinets and this video provides great step by step instructions on installing soft close hinges. Thank you so much!!!
Great presentation
I now know (thanks to you) everything I need to upgrade my cabinets to sift close. Thanks!
Love this video! You explained everything perfectly and I could clearly see every move. Thank you so much.
Great instructions. You explained everything so easy and clearly. Thank you
You are so welcome!

Thank you Whitney for sharing and showing us this valuable information. Very well picturised.
Just perfect, now I know what I need to do for my pantry cabinet I am going to make
You had the best explanation of how to do this on RUclips! Thank you so much for your video,
Hi Kathy,
I’m so happy I could help! Thank you for this awesome comment.
excellent video. Thanks the best for figuring out how to measure and figure out I needed face frame hinges
Great video. You're a wonderful teacher.
That was very helpful especially since we have the exact same cabinets. This is the way to go.
Thank you! I just replaced all my drawer slides to soft close and this was going to be my next project. I feel confident about it now 👍🏻
Hi! I love that you feel confident about it! I need to replace my drawer slides next lol

You’re fun to watch. Cute and great personality.
Did you use a drywall screw to install your cabinets?
Maybe 💁🏼♀️
Super helpful on hinge installation! Maybe do a add on video about the drilling of the circles with a paddle bit for the inserted part of the soft close hinge.
That’s a great suggestion! If I end up replacing hinges on cabinets that need to be drilled out I will most definitely make that video.
You can buy a Kreg Jig for that very purpose and it makes the job fool proof and easy.
Great video. Thanks!
This was an extremely helpful video
Awesome !!! Just what I was looking for. Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best explanation by far.
Easy to install, works well

YES!! i thought i could do it this way, makes it a one man job. thanks for the confirmation! Work smarter, not harder!
Knowledgeable information. Thank you
Great instructionsal video! I'm hoping you have one that tells me why my corner door like yours opens too far, thus hitting the other. Thanks!
Your hinges might be full open hinges - like they open to 170°. Mine open to 105 degrees I think.
Great explanation!
Very informative thanks for sharing!
Why did you choose to use 2 hinges? I have seen some sites that just use 1. Just curious if I might be missing something. Thanks and great vid!
Well done. Great video !!!
Thank you for explaining "face frame"!!! That was so helpful!
Any product or video for soft closing drawers? 😃
Thank you for this video, it was helpful
awesome job!
What are the little black things in the screw holes on the door?
Could you possibly do a video on how to do full extension drawer Glides? My cabinets are about 20 years old and the other videos on RUclips are kind of confusing. I think you could explain it better. Thanks!

Great detail. In explanation and video quality. Thanks!
Excellent video! Would also have been super helpful to advise on the width of the frame and how to measure so you buy the right size as well as the overlay. :)
So clear and concise, thank you 😊 new subbie
You gave me the information I need. Thank you
Perfect, easy explanation. Thank you!
Big help thanks
You could also put a stick-on soft bumper to the face frame.
This was extremely helpful! Thank you so much 😊
Thank you
Hi. Could you explain how you knew the new hinges were matched with the existing ones? Thanks!
So do you put two hinges on each door or just one per door
I put two but a lot of people in the comments said they just did one and it worked!
Good video 🔥💯👌🏽
Best video yet after viewing many videos trying to understand the overlay. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE HOW TO ADJUST THE SOFT CLOSE FEATURE.

I've found that many times, you only need to replace one hinge and it'll work just fine that way. It may depend on the size of the door.
How do you adjust the actual soft close? The instructions show a little tiny plastic “arrow” but no indication on how to rotate it to go from strong to medium to light close
anyone know where i can get just the plastic insert? my cabinet hinges are like this but are just missing the inserts

Where I work we sell them . But I had no idea how to install them until now . I still don't think they that strong since they come in 2 parts
Can you adjust the overlay on the hinges?
If you’re making the cabinets yourself you can… if your replacing existing hinges probably not unless you make new doors.
I’m a woman on her own and I love that you proved we don’t need a man’s help to DIY. I like your sass too! Thanks for the great explanation.
You're....awesome..and gorgeous too!
Legit.

Did all of your cabinets have the same overlay? I've measured the overlay of my cabinets and I've got like 4 different measurements.
Hi Jeramy,
Mine all had the same overlay. Are the measurements close to each other?
@@WhitneyBaldwin Thanks for the reply. I've got 1/4", 1/2", 5/8", and 3/4".
