    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  3 месяца назад +2

      Awesome! Cabinets are a great project! The face frame doesn’t really add any extra “strength” to the cabinet. It can help hold the box square (but so does the back panel) and for really wide cabinets, it MIGHT add a little extra support to the countertop, but face frame pieces are so thin anyway, whatever it added wouldn’t really be much support if any at all. I personally prefer frameless cabinets and use them for most of my cabinet projects.

    Just FYI, the fact that you need 1/4" reveal on the hinge side of the door doesn't mean you need 1/4" reveal on the non-hinge side. I just built new doors for my kitchen cabinets and where 2 doors come together (2 non-hinge sides of the door) I just left a 1/8" gap between them (I made each door half the dimension of the middle divider minus 1/16") because that's the look I like. I also do this when I'm building things like sideboards. It works fine, no rubbing!

I have to re-arange al the measurement (as a Dutchman) to metric. Would be so fine when you guys (or in your case girl) switched from imperial to metrics (I guess there's a long way to go).

      When I built my sisters kitchen cabinets I made a blind cabinet like that and if I remember right, I think I mounted some scrap just inside the cabinet to mount the hinges too. I believe I ran a 3/4” plywood strip from top to bottom for that. Another option is to add a piece of 1x to the front, then you could use inset face frame hinges and mount the door to that 1x piece. But that may interfere with the cabinet next to it.

      I know hinges can be tricky but it’s really pretty easy to figure out which you need once you realize you just have to answer a few questions: inset or overlay? Frameless or face frame? Hopefully this helps and I can’t wait to dive into it again more in future videos 🙌
