It also looks like they can be installed on left or right sides of the drawer. The exposed top piece when the drawer is open is available in white or gray only, so spray paint might be needed for wood or other color drawer sides, if you want to hide them slightly. They are sold in sets of two for two light weight drawers. Heavier drawers may need a set on each side, ROK says.
We just installed this kit and are thrilled! My husband has several drawer units in the garage that have heavy items in them. We were concerned this kit wouldn't handle a heavier load but it did a fabulous job. Now the drawers are pulled closed with ease! Well worth the time to complete this project. BTW, we had to add 3/4" trim board pieces to screw the glide piece behind the rail on the cabinet wall. It worked perfectly and added extra stability to the drawers as well. I noticed Lee Whitmore mentioned you might need two pulls for heavier drawers but we didn't need to do that with any of the drawers we installed this kit on.

As much as I like the way they close, it's a deal breaker when it comes to how the drawer now opens. As many reviewers have said on Amazon, the plastic tabs were all broken off. You can still easily install them.
Have you thought about adding actual handles to the faces of the drawers? Not sure if this is an option for you, but cutouts like you describe are my least favorite way to open drawers. Thanks for watching!

Hi Ray - I'm not sure you'll be able to install into metal drawers... it'll come down to whether you have an appropriately-sized gap between the side or bottom of the drawer and the cabinetry, and whether you can find hardware to use for the install. If the drawers are sheet metal, you'll probably need to use machine screws to go through the soft-close mechanism and into the drawer, then use a washer and nut to secure it from the inside of the drawer. G'day!
That may be tricky - you'll have to modify the installation instructions some... but as long as there is space to install the latch on the side or bottom of the drawer, yes, it should work.
Not usually - though I've heard from a few viewers who were able to with some creative solutions... each install is a little different though, so you may have to just try it and see what you can make work. In general, though, with an undermount if you want soft-close you have to replace the whole drawer slide. Good luck!
As long as you can get the mechanism to line up properly, you can install it anywhere on the side of the drawer. I don't think you should try to install it upside down, but below the drawer slide should be fine. Good luck!
I don't think they do... but it would mostly come down to whether your cabinets have enough clearance, and how you go about mounting the mechanism to the sides of the drawer and inside walls of the metal cabinet...
Hello! Some says that the system is not that good as the drawer needs more power to open it and it also makes the drawer to open slowly than before. I understand that it make sense to make the drawer close slowly when you are about to close it and the pieces get together making the mechanism to do his job, but what about when you want to open it? Does it also moves slowly?
There is a slight resistance when opening. You'll notice it at first, but it quickly becomes second nature. It does not make it open more slowly, just that it requires a bit more of a tug when opening... it's honestly not a big deal at all, though.
My cabinet slides are mounted to the bottom of the cabinet frame opening and the back of the cabinet. There is approximately a 1/2” setback from the side of the drawer frame opening where the slide rail is and the inside wall of the cabinet. I guess in this case I would have to put a spacer on the inside wall of the cabinet that would allow the “draw bar” to be mounter at the proper spacing to pick up the latch on the draw side. Have you ever done that?
I haven't done that myself, but I assume it would work. However, I've also heard that there are soft-close mechanisms available for under-mount slides... though you may need to replace the actual slides. Good luck!
Would these work to slow the drawers enough to stop fingers getting pinched? I have twins who are starting to get into the drawers, I don’t want to lock them all (they’ll just go through them when I eventually unlock them!) but don’t want their fingers to get jammed by heavy drawers…
They slow the drawer down, but don't stop it entirely. If you try to slam it shut, you still can (and likely will break the soft-close mechanism in the process). After having raised some toddlers of my own... drawer locks may still be the better choice until little fingers become slightly larger fingers. Good luck!
How can these work with a cabinet that has a bunch of drawers where the tracks are offset away from the sides of the cabinet? Sounds like in this situation these may not work unless I use some kind of furring strip or something like that?
I've seen a few online, but have never tried to install any myself. If you search on Amazon for "Undermount Soft Close" a few options come up. Good luck!
You could reach out to the manufacturer to see if they will ship to CA: www.rokhardware.com/soft-close-cabinet-drawer-damper-adapter-for-wood-drawers-gray.html
Would they work just fine for frames cabinets? I would be able to screw the front part but due to the space created by the frame the rear part there like 1/2” gap so I won’t be able to secure the piece and there no way to secure it to the rails. You don’t have that issue as your are frameless.
Unfortunately, it sounds like these won't work for your specific set up. You'll probably have to get the soft close rails that have the soft close mechanism built in. Good luck!
Great video. I was ready to do it immediately until I realized that my drawers have bottom rails and not side rails. 😢. Is there a product for bottom rails? I believe not, but still checking.
If you have the kind of drawer slides that I showed at the beginning of the video that mount to the side of the drawers and replace your mechanism, then yes, most likely you'll need to replace them. Good luck!
It also looks like they can be installed on left or right sides of the drawer. Yeah, if your cabinets are designed significantly differently, you may need to add extra mounting surfaces such as furring strips etc.
Is one mechanism needed per drawer or 2?
Just one per drawer, unless it's a really large / heavy drawer. Your typical silverware or other similar-sized drawers will only need 1.
Do you know of any soft close adapters for undermount?
I've seen a few online, but have never tried to install any myself. If you search on Amazon for "Undermount Soft Close" a few options come up. Good luck!
What size bit to predrill?
I don't recall exactly - probably around 1/16" or so. It does not need a large bit at all. Good luck!
I have a 1948 house with original cabinets and drawers in kitchen.
Q: can drawer slides be added to drawers that did not have any?
How are your drawers currently mounted into the cabinets?
How cheap are they to buy in Canada? I can get them on Amazon but they cost CAN$36 per set?
You could reach out to the manufacturer to see if they will ship to CA: www.rokhardware.com/soft-close-cabinet-drawer-damper-adapter-for-wood-drawers-gray.html
How much did each one cost and where can I buy?
Looks like you can get them here at 2/$15ish: amzn.to/3FjTHBY
Would they work just fine for frames cabinets? I would be able to screw the front part but due to the space created by the frame the rear part there like 1/2” gap so I won’t be able to secure the piece and there no way to secure it to the rails.
You don’t have that issue as your are frameless.
Unfortunately, it sounds like these won't work for your specific set up. You'll probably have to get the soft close rails that have the soft close mechanism built in. Good luck!
@@AmplifyDIY oh that not good,
Thanks for the follow up!
I also have the same problem. I'm just going to put a filler block for the back screw.
$15.99 for 2 from Amazon right now in case anyone was wondering.
Great video. I was ready to do it immediately until I realized that my drawers have bottom rails and not side rails. 😢. Is there a product for bottom rails? I believe not, but still checking.
I have not found a good solution for under-mount rails, other than swapping out the rails for soft-close versions. Good luck!
My soft close drawers are no longer closing all the way. Do I need to replace the tracks?
If you have the kind of drawer slides that I showed at the beginning of the video that mount to the side of the drawers and replace your mechanism, then yes, most likely you'll need to replace them. Good luck!
My drawer rails are located on the bottom of my drawer? Is there a solution for me? Anyone? Thanks!
