    I disagree about the Paxton storyline. Him going back to high school and that being embarrassing was the point. It was fun to see the writers explore the peaked-in-high-school trope and I think it fit well with the overall “college isn’t what you expect” theme of the season

      yeah I agree, I felt it was in his character because of the peaked-in-high-school trope that he carries out. it would make sense for someone who thinks that his place is his high school, to drop out to go back (if that makes sense). plus he decided to go back to ASU to get a degree in teaching so that he could potentially become a swim coach (I believe).

    Ethan could have been a really good opportunity for Devi to question any prejudice she might have against people who don’t care about school / have different backgrounds. School and ivy leagues aren’t an obsession for everyone, especially those who have other stuff they’re dealing with or have parents who didn’t go to college. I agree that they should have given him a backstory or not included him at all.. it didn’t sit well with me that it was just like, “oh he’s a dirtbag, he’ll drag you down” and then he disappeared 🤣 but I get why a lot of people aren’t that attached to him, I just really liked how sweet he was and felt kinda bad for him when he got dumped LOL

It's understandable why some characters like Kamala, Aneesa and Ethan were given very little screen time even though it did disappoint a bit . IMO, almost all the storylines that did get included felt necessary, were potrayed well and didn't feel rushed. Although, Paxton's storyline definitely seemed forced and could've been done better.

      Addition: As for Devi lying about getting in, we have to remember the argument Mohan and Nalini had about Devi. Devi never liked the idea of making her mom feel like she was right to be disappointed in her.

    I feel like a lot of characters disappeared/faded to the background (Manish, Fabiola's girlfriend and especially Aneesa). It's not a dealbreaker because of course I'd prefer the focus to be on the major characters, but it also impacts the storylines (or lack thereof) of some of the other characters such as Kamala: I actually forgot she was in a relationship with Manish until the last episode! I almost wish they had not brought new characters like Margot, Ethan or Lindsay onto the show since they didn't do much with those characters and the show could have spent that time on other characters that were already established instead. Lindsay especially felt like a wasted character: I almost feel like she was created so Paxton wouldn't end up alone; there's not really much else to her. But I'm very happy with where most of the main characters ended up, especially Paxton, who I feel had the most character development over the course of the series except for Devi.

    I loved this season but in all honesty I was super disappointed with the lack of focus Kamala and Aneesa got! They’re my two favorite characters and they didn’t get much to do and it was sad, though with Aneesa I heard her actress was acting in another project so I understand why she couldn’t do much but I wish they gave Kamala more to do with her career but I did love the moments she had at the end of the season with Devi and she’s like a big sister to her! Another thing I loved was how they gave Fabiola and Eleanor more focus on their passions with Robotics and Acting and I just love seeing characters that have fleshed out interests that tie into their goals, I wish Devi and Ben got that same treatment too though (I think they both wanna get into the Law field but that wasn’t really fleshed out too much)! I especially loved how Fabiola chose going to Howard because of her want to make the field more inclusive that was super cool to see! Her character was honestly the highlight of the season for me! :D 💖

  • @JUSTLIVIN001
    @JUSTLIVIN001 Год назад +55

    They honestly should have just made the season longer. So we could have a more complete ending for all the characters. Like for Ethan, Aneesa, Kamala, Lindsay, and Ben. Honestly the show reels in characters, uses them up, and then drops them. It isn’t fair. Especially for Ethan, all they told us was that he’s a bad boy and that’s it. They both thought each other was hot, got together, Devi has a wake up call and realizes he’s a bad person, and drops him like a hot potato. AND HE LOOKED HEART BROKEN. They didn’t even show him after the break up (and it rly didn’t seem to bother Devi). They should have known that if they want to add in new characters, they shouldn’t just “introduce them as side characters”. They are all people with their own stories. And yes I agree with how the Lindsey and Paxton relationship was odd. Cute but odd. Like realistically she would not be with a 19 year old. It could have worked out if Paxton asks her out but she declines. That would have been interesting to see. Anyways those are my thoughts lol.

    • @katieslaysofc
      @katieslaysofc 8 месяцев назад +2

      With Paxton and Lindsay to me it just felt weird and awkward. It felt like the writers were just like “okay let’s do a few scenes of Paxton talking to the only other young teacher who happens to be a woman and then they can date” because maybe they thought it was an easy option where Paxton wouldn’t have ended up alone. I felt like their relationship decision was kinda rushed for the writers even though I know they did have to tie loose ends up quickly bc it was the last season of the show. But personally I would have preferred for Paxton be on his own and doing his own thing and finding himself. Whether that meant going back to college or training to become a swim coach. I feel like it would have made more sense for Paxton character - because all through high school he has been this legend and the ultimate cool guy for 4 years - and now that’s his personality. So I think it would have been good character development for Paxton go out and see the world and have that as his ending instead of ending up with Lindsay, it just felt wrong to see him with someone who tbh didn’t fit his personality at all.

    In my opinion they did well with what they had. I don't know if anyone have seen some of their interviews for when season 3 came out. During that time it was mentioned that they have already filmed season 4. The way I see that is some of the actors probably couldn't be there fully because of other projects they had going on at the same time as season 4 was being filmed. I would say that was probably the case for the person who plays Aneesa and the person who plays Manish (and probably Ethan as well).
    I think this season was all about them growing up. Also, them finally realizing what they wanted and needed was right in front them but they needed a little "trauma" to get there.
    I feel like them putting Devi and Ben together at the end was the game plan from the beginning. I think they wanted to show that their relationship was definitely a love relationship from the beginning and Paxton was the guy to help them see that without him knowing that he was helping. Paxton being there was almost like a confidence booster when it came to self-worth for Devi and also for himself.
    So, again in my opinion I feel like they did pretty good with what they had. Also, their majors were discussed in the past for the most part, or at least their interests were, so that is probably why they didn't want to mention it too much. But, I do agree with how Ben got an internship with a law firm so quick. The only reason why I think he got that was because his father's connection and probably pulled some strings for him. I do wish they could have showed his parents at least once in this last season.

    I like Season 4 though there were some areas of the storyline I had question about.
    I didn't like how Ethan just disappear after four episodes for no reason. I also agreed that Kamala and Aneesa were not given a lot of screen time but I heard that Megan Suri who play Aneesa had another project going on so I think that's why she wasn't given that much screen time this season. Paxton's storyline was interesting. He went to college, drop out and came back to the school as a swimming teacher. His character wasn't the same from the previous three seasons and also him being in a relationship with that teacher in the end seem forced.
    There were also some good moments. I love how Nalini found new love after going through such a tough loss of losing Mohan and knowing it was time to move on which wasn't easy for her. I like how Nirmala found love which is cute. Most of all, I like how they ended off Devi's story with her going to her dream college and being in Ben. Although some disagree, I feel Ben was the right one considering he was always there for her despite all time he was bullying her but eventually became friends to lovers. I just love on how in the end, all the characters ended having a good ending where they started from the beginning to end. This series made a great impact on everyone with valuable lessons and I'm sad it's done but it was a good run.

First off, they just completely discarded SO many characters (rebecca, manish, aneesa, and ethan after they broke up). But on top of that I feel like a lot of the characters did a ton of stuff that either didn't really make sense for their character or just had no purpose. Like that random part where trent told ben to stop doing work now that he got into college and he just listened?? Also fabiola and eleanor being so mad at devi the first few seasons for her lying but then lying to her face the entire last season (fabiola not telling devi she applied to or got into princeton and eleanor keeping it a secret that she was graduating early). Also, kind of confused on how she did graduate early like she was in quite a few required core classes that she never finished. It felt kind of useless like why not just wait till graduation and then do that? Also don't even get me started on paxton this season. Making paxton a teacher at devi's school and then having them kiss (on school grounds which is even worse) just made the ship seem gross. I also was very confused about the college situation devi got herself into, she spent all of her life hyperfocused on college so her of all people should've known to apply to safe schools.

    I will say as an indian who I guess has similar expectations to devi I sort of understood why she lied about the IV leagues. To get into none literally crushed MY SOUL despite not actually being in the show. Was it a terrible decision? absolutely, but was it somewhat realistic? also yes. Despite Devis moms character growth that fear of completely failing is something that can't be so broken easily especially within Indian families. I also think that whole talk with her mom about coming 'all the way from India' was so needed and I felt that so hard. As an indian, to see that kind of depicition and respresentation of what it is like to go through that is heartbreaking but also so raw and true to a lot of Indian families. I cant speak for everyone but that one scene singlehandedly broke me inot tears because I knew that feeling all too well

    Ngl as someone who somewhat enjoys the bad boy trope I'm so disappointed with how Ethan was written out after like 4 episodes (didn't even last halfway through man 😭). Like I GENUINELY thought they were gonna do more with him and I really wanted to see him develop, because from what I saw there was really potential there. Especially the part where he talked to Akshara about Devi's studiousness (and the part where he was waiting on Devi's car to check if she was okay), I thought that kind of showed that he wasn't just a "bad boy" and there might have been more to him, even if he probably used that moment as an opportunity to swipe Akshara's wallet. I don't know. I guess I was just hoping for more depth to him instead of reducing him to a bad person. Even then, it was weird for him to straight up disappear, because I thought at the very least if he wasn't gonna get positive development there would be some kind of spiteful plot with him after the breakup since he's petty enough to wanna vandalize a teacher's car for getting an F on homework 💀
    I guess I'm just a sucker for the bad boys that develop which was why my hopes were so high for him. Oh well lol.

    I feel like Fabiola was such a 2 dimensional character - compared to a lot of the other characters in the show, she was poorly written, almost as if she is there to just be the quirky best friend. It was having her there for the sake of representation (of the queer community) rather than fleshing her out. Like she had soooo much potential but I feel like it was kind of a let down.
    ALSO it is so true that Aneesa gave NOTHING this season. Like it was such a rollercoaster, but then she went from tackling an important eating disorder to getting a couple of lines in season 4. We needed more of her, to just explore, and give her some kind of resolution.

  • @BN-hp8um
    @BN-hp8um Год назад +2

    I met my husband when I was 24 and he was 20. We've been together 6 years and have zero toxicity issues with maturity. I think it depends on the people (of course age gaps between adults and minors matter like a 21 yo dating a 15 yo but I'm strictly speaking about adult on adult with a small contradiction bekoe) and their maturity levels. Connections also matter. People are all different and if they're connecting because of being on the same maturity level I see it.
    That said, the Paxton and the teacher didn't work for me. The maturity I'm talking about wasn't there. He was literally still feeling like he was a kid...and she was clearly more of that adult mindset. They had zero chemistry and little screeentime and if you take the teacher out--nothing in the show changes lol it was a forced romance to give every character a romance and I felt it with them. Their characters didn't make sense together.
    Now as for Paxton and Devi. Between the characters, those two years didn't matter. They literally went to school together for 3 years lol 19 is an adult legally but mentally? They're both developing their brains just the same, and are more on the same maturity level. Then having a romance after he leaves is whatever.
    But you are correct; him being a teacher made it icky. At that point, it needed to be a professional relationship until she was out of school. Lol It really was strange having him come back and have that scene.
    Anyway, enjoyed your thoughts!! And your funny little inserts 😂

It kinda showed Devi being sneaky, not honest with her mom, sleeping around with boys, in her mom's house where she could of gotten caught. Like how she didn't get caught with 2 other women, and a strict mom, living under the same roof?

    okay, Paxton. It was very infuriating that many of the characters would assume that he was "old." Let's look past the fact that the actor is older and focus on the character. Paxton is 18 I want to say towards the beginning of season 4 and then turns 19 somewhere in the middle or towards the end. I thought it was so unreasonable for the substitute teacher to tell him after his accidental party that he was an adult and should have kicked the students out. It really isn't that easy for someone who's around the same age as the students. Personally, I wouldn't be able to do that. Obviously, the students see Paxton without respect because he's basically a couple months to a year older. I wouldn't listen to someone who is just a year or months older than me. So I hated the Sub to be honest because she acted as if she wasn't significantly older than Paxton who she knew just got out of High school months ago.

      What Lindsey did was the most obvious thing to do. I worked as a school teacher and it was absolutely shocking for me seeing a school staff partying with students. That didn't make sense at all. What she did was helping Paxton, because he clearly wasn't taking his job seriously, regardless of how weird he could felt about it. Now, the weird thing is the school hiring him.

    This season was bad. There was so much that didn't make sense. Paxton and Devi have wayyyy more chemistry than Ben and Devi, and Devi and Paxton always cause each other to grow, whereas with Ben, it's just constant bickering. Manish literally disappeared. Ethan showing up for only two eps makes absolutely no sense. There should have been a bigger closure scene in regards to Devi's dad where it's clear that she truly has finally healed. There was no epic narrator moment with John McEnroe and Andy Sandberg and Gigi Hadid. John McEnroe lines used to make me laugh so so hard, and they all just fell flat this season. I don't understand why they brought a new character with the substitute teacher when they could have used that screentime to develop Kamala or maybe more with Nalini's story with Margot's dad. Elanor giving up in Julliard makes no sense when there are so many other places she could go to like NYU, etc. I'm surprised they didn't include more of Paxton's family, especially Rebecca, as she is key in terms of his growth. Maybe this is asking a lot of just one season. SO? the show is popular, you can split all this up over two more seasons. People will still watch it. Having 5 seasons doesn't turn it into Riverdale with its never ending seasons. Overall, this season just didn't have the spark that the last seasons did.
