I honestly don't think that Eloïse was a good friend to Pen. Everytime they meet she only talks about Lady Whistledown and was obsessed with her. I can understand she has different views than her family and does not want to marry and do whatever she wants but her behavior is annoying. Remember when Pen was heartbroken to see Colin who was about to marry Marina and Eloïse visits Pen late night just to talk about Whistledown ?

I like this analysis, but the clips going backwards is really distracting.

THANK YOU! it's crazy to me that more people are not talking about this! Collin's abuse in the books is why Romancing Mr. Bridgerton is my least favorite of the 8 books. Nothing in the book convinced me that Colin ever truly loved her. It always read to me as his desire to control her.

This was really interesting! I had never expected to like the friendship between Eloise and Cressida but I actually do. The way they hold a mirror for each other is really interesting to see.

Equating Eloise to the men of the ton was a hot take and i am here for it! I am not a show Eloise fan. Loved her in the books though.

The ending with Betty and Daniel was designed to be open to interpretation whether they end up together or not. There’s really no wrong answer. A lot of people saw the romantic connection and potential between them and a lot of people didn’t. Each viewer views their relationship differently so the ending allows you to decide for yourself what happens next. At the end of the day they were the most popular ship to come out of the series and in every other Ugly Betty version they do end up together, so yeah.

I’m assuming that he’s going to find out that she’s Lady Whistledown and it’s going to be this whole big fight and break them up for 1-2 episodes. It feels like the writers didn’t have enough material so they had to make up random storylines for the Mondriches, Benedict, and Cressida/Eloise. I agree that the pacing seems forced and sporadic. I have loved seeing Penelope’s glow up and her new dresses but other than that…boring. I am more interested in seeing what happens to Francesca at this point.

Even though I really dislike her, I hope they do redeem Cressida and don't do a twist villain reveal. I will probably never understand how she better herself with her friendship with Eloise, but I'm a sucker for redeeming villains. So I hope all this development won't go down the drain in part 2

I personally LOVE the Mondrichs but i would’ve been completely fine with finding out they’ve been titled in one episode and then just seeing them organically at the parties throughout the rest of the season!

I think she dresses all her girl hideously. And always looks good because she's so selfish.

I actually like the Mondrich (sp?) family. Polin was definitely off but I still like the show. They needed more episodes to accomodate all of these story lines and actually develop Penelope and Colin.

I personally don’t think Kanthony was front and center in s2. The problem with multiple plot lines has been a thing since s2 with that whole Featherington cousin that lead nowhere. Maybe it’s because we hardly had any scenes of them together and happy.

Lord Deblin understood very well that if he married Pen, she would eventually cheat on him with Colin during the 3 years that he's gone. And the pill or modern condoms didn't exist yet. We all know it as well. I think Cressida would be perfect for him because she's likely gay and won't mind him being gone. An absent husband is probably the best situation a gay woman in that era could be in, relatively speaking.

This is a fascinating analysis. I have been enjoying Cressida's and Eloise's friendship (love story) but am also hoping for a very large breakup between the two as Cressida keeps trying to bully Penelope / Whistledown.

Their dynamic is one of the most interesting ones and many overlookes this cuz of the characters respective mistakes/wrong doings/flaws. The Pen hate side is all about how Pen is so awful, a villain, life ruiner, jealous beach, etc. The El side is all about half-baked feminism, out of touch, self-centered, etc. Their relationship is so fasinating. Their friendship is so good yet unintentionally keep each other stagnant. Its also at times, pretty one-sided.

I don’t think Ms,Featherinton wanted Penelope to stay to be her maid. I think she just didn’t want to be alone and Pen is subconsciously her favorite. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t remember any scenes where Penelope was told to do any maid like task, or favors for her mother. She probably sees herself in Pen. She’s intelligent,cunning and doesn’t quite fit in. The same is true for Penelope. Plus they do have maids and two of the sisters are married, so that shouldn’t be a problem to sustain. She didn’t believe in her daughter because she didn’t believe in herself. Pen also doesn’t exactly believe in herself until the third season.

I thought yellow looked nice on Penelope, I just didn’t like that it was all the time and some dresses just weren’t flattering

What bridgerton does really well, is dress for the character... all the characters that are dressing a bit weird for the time, it's always because of character... featheringtons, Cressida, even lady Danbury...these are all characters, who are either outsiders in a way, or are supposed to be outlandish in some way... even Eloise's wardrobe went through a change in the series... it's interesting 😁 One really interesting examole is Pen's green emerald dress at the first ball in s3, i think...the dress looks really cool, but its also very clear that she stands out... meaning she did go slightly overboard...which makes sense, cause she doesnt really know to behave yet in society and therefore goes a bit too hard on the design, and then later the designs become much softer and delicate as she also finds her way into this new world...

Lady Featherington gives me R/raisedbynarcissist vibes. Have children that they prefer and one that is their punching bag to increse their percieved self worth. TDLR: Lady Featherington is a narcissist and Penelope is her punching bag.

Honestly im rooting for cressida and lord deblin. Yeh she would be bored while he is away but that time away from lord deblin would certainly make cressida have more knowledge about herself and not just all about trying to compete with other girls or be a bad gossip starter. Maybe she would be more like eloise now. A more feminist ig idk.

Everytime the Mondrich family came on, it seemed so boring, and it takes awake from Pen and Colin’s story. Theyre taking away from Pens story, and her stories is so interesting and even makes me cry because I can see myself in Pen.

Women "reading too much" and "being confused by it" is an old sentiment, but in this era specifically it would aim at romance novel reading. Reading was actually encouraged for young women, at least those of class, but only for education and refinement - so moral texts by clergymen, practical things about running a household or topical studies like the Arts for conversations. You see the novel itself was a relatively new concept and as it swept through society what immediately sold best were exciting stories with cloak and dagger fights, abduction, seduction, moral downfall of all kinds and creepy secrets unearthed. Oc they were especially popular with young women who were usually not allowed any kind of excitement apart from gossip, card games and innocent outings. They would read and share these stories or perform little plays of the scenes in them with friends. It worried the wider community immensely that girls could want to emulate all the behavior they read about - there are numerous articles about 'the threats of letting your daughter read novels' of the time. Also if you ever watched/read Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey it touches on this topic in a kinda satirical way.

I actually liked how non-cliché it was. I don’t think he’s bad or anything. He has different expectations. I thought it was even a bit refreshing, because it’s a normal reaction. Colin did make a scene.

They really wasted the “I’m gonna teach you how to flirt” storyline… they could’ve built so much chemistry and tension if they just explored that for literally more than FIVE MINUTES!!

A Covee girl digs up "swamp potato," which Lucy Gray calls "katniss." Lucy also gives the excuse that she's going to dig up katniss when she runs away. Lucy and Katniss both sing to help themselves through the games/rebellion. Finally, Katniss sings the song Lucy wrote - "the Hanging Tree," which comes to represent Snow's time in District 12. Katniss becomes a sentimental thorn in Snow's side. Even having the mockingjay as Katniss's symbol reminds him of a girl who knew he couldn't be trusted.

HERE ARE THE FACTS THAT BIG GIRLS CANT ACCEPT... Its not "society" its not "the media" its PURE BIOLOGY. Thinner is healthier and more attractive. I have been on BOTH ENDS multiple times and im telling you from pure HONEST observation... When I am thin, men and constantly glacing at me... Its amazing because I have noticed it seems to be just 1 kilogram (2.205 lbs) that makes all the difference... Like there is a certain weight that just seems to tip the "attention from men" scale for me... And its KNOWN that the thinner you are the higher quality of man you can attract (more of a provider type.) Stop kicking and screaming and JUST PLAY THE GAME!! Just play it!! You cant resist literal BIOLOGY!!! It's in our actual DNA people... Its the same for us... Kicking and screaming wont make us females all of a sudden desire the fat guy over the fit guy!! It doesnt work! Our BIOLOGY tells us one guy is better (because our body would like his healthy dna for our baby.) Just play!!! Its that simple. Just play!! Dont yell, dont scream, dont complain and say its "society" and the "media." No. BIOLOGY which cannot be changed. And yes.. You can attract some men but... that is SOME men...Its not as easy. (Talking from experience!!) And whether we like it or not, I am always looking at Penelope and thinking... dang... if you just lost weight you would be GORGEOUS. She had the prettiest face.... And I personally dont care much for this modern American idea of lets all kick and scream and get our way (seeing as im Australian)... How about... we just accept it... and get in shape and have better chances. PLAY. THE. GAME.

I think the silhouette argument is moot here. Using the regency era as a guide and the empire waist as the archetype for clothes (as seen on everyone else), lady featheringhton's tighter silhouette looks outdated because it's a remnant of older fashions. This also works with the plot: their financial struggles are already apparent in season 1, which could mean that portia is reusing older pieces to save money in order to have enough to give her daughters the "proper" clothes as they enter the marriage market. I do agree w the other points though. I believe the sabotage (or, at least, her not trying so hard to find penelope a husband) comes from the fact that portia wants her to take care of her as she gets older. I believe she references this in season 3 obliquely as well

Lord Debling would have been amazing, he truly was a great character, but since season 3 is more worried about adding side characters, it takes away from Penelope’s story line. If only he fought for Pen and made the choose harder for Colin, it would have been a better story.

When Billy Taupe was saying that she is not an innocent lamb in front of Coriolanus she than explained herself that she was flirting to get good impressions and never actually sell herself like Billy was implying but also she adds that she WOULD HAVE done it for Mode Ivory and I believe her. I don't think she ever lied to Snow about anything. Billy Taupe gives such a toxic ex vibes who cheated on his girlfriend himself but blaming a girl saying she is a hoe and not him.

The only decent love triangle with Lord Debling was: Debling, Pen & CRESSIDA. How this Triangle helped WAY MORE to give Cressida dimension than it ever did Pen.
