The whole head situation would have been better if I had seen this video 5 years ago when you first put it up. I only discovered a week ago that I could use another brand trimer head on my Honda HHT35 bicycle handle trimmer. No one can know how I avoided the trimmer jobs around my yard. And now that this new toy allows me to use my trimmer as it was meant to be used life is good again. Thanks for putting this up!

I freeked out, and searched your channel for help. OK, it was pretty easy after all and works great. My other speed loader on my Echo wore out so I needed to do something else. The two way spool is because it works on both left hand and right hand threaded trimmers-- you want the spool situated so that the ratchet tabs on the spool are facing the right way based on the direction the head is going to turn (which is related to the left vs right hand thread of the shaft). At least with the "universal" version which comes with a variety of shaft bushings for different model trimmers, there is usually a L or an R on the spool ends, and you need to make sure the L or R is face up based on the thread direction when you put it into the housing-- this has little to do with how far it fits in the housing except perhaps based on the kind of adapter bushing it has to fit on the threads of the shaft. The bottom line is, if you put it on the wrong way it won't feed worth a darn.

Good job Steve - I got the Oregon version (not the Gator) and I had a very strange install on a Kobalt trimmer. After installing it wrong (it cut fine, but would not advance the line) I realized something was wrong, so I watched your video (AGAIN) and realized I had left out the top piece of the head! DUH - None of the adapters that came with the head fit my trimmer, but I was able to find a bolt that did the trick. Thanks again for your great videos - see you around.
Hey Steve, I don't know if you've figured out on the spools yet but they are made to flip over because one side is a left hand feed and flipped over it is right hand feed. Echo is a left hand and Stihl is right hand.

I switched from stihl to echo the other day, traded a friend of mine, plus went and got me a new echo, both srm-225, with the speed feed, the line I use is the Stihl, orange, black, and gray, line, everyone I've told about it loves it, plus it would last twice as long in my stihl. That being said, that new echo, not the weedeaters fault, but the speed feed head to blame, just about made history when weedeaters fly. I have about 2 acres I weed eat, and it ain't thick, I cut it every two weeks, it's just to steep to mow, and my stihl would use less then a head of string, I hate stopping and starting, I crank my country music and go to town, no lie I stopped 15 times or more, cause my line wouldnt feed, and if I'd catch it before it broke, it still wouldn't bump and pullout by hand, I'd have to take the head apart, and take the line off and fight to get twisted up line back on it, half way through I put new line on it, and it keep doing the same thing, I tried winding it up thight, or loose. I'm gonna try other line in it, but really I just want to get a stihl head and use it, I can field trip and restring them, blindfolded, upside down, with my hands tied behind my back, faster then anyone I've seen, get the hole lined up and string through it, evened up, then cranked up, lol. I'm just kidding, I can't help it, I don't let stuff like that get to me to much, but it was hot and I've got a big big roll of the best line in my opinion, in the world, that clogges up in my new weedeater, just wondering your opinion, while making a joke about it, lol

I suppose you are correct depending on the model being repaired. In my location gear cases run 100 plus for most shindaiwa and echo units which are dominant here. Gear parts I have found can be ordered cheap compared to that price. I will agree most trimmers and not brush cutter gear case assemblies can be had at good prices for a simple replacement. For larger units there is a swamp of units rendered useless because the cost the replacement gear case. If I only knew how to rebuild them I could restore these units instead of customers being forced to buy a new machine.
Now I really learned something. My equ are all Husqvarna and don't winde that way, could you do one for that. ?? Oh mine hook to the real inside then winde on.
You said "no reason to take speed Feed apart". I wish that was true. The line binds in those slots/grooves in the head and the only way to get line to feed again is disassembly. It gets terribly frustrating. I have to only put half capacity on the spools to get any amount of time without having to disassemble.Any one else have feeding problems? I've used all styles/size of lines with same results.
@@roblord7610 : 2 years on I still haven't found an easy way, keep trying to straighten the line before inserting it, doesn't work, made a guide wire with an eyelet on the end but when the line is though the eyelet it's doubled and to thick to pull through, still spend ages poking and eventually it goes through by chance... ! 😂
I bought an Echo SF for my Echo gt225. No instructions. The SF has a left hand thread. The trmmer is right hand thread. It came with an adapter, but, I am not even sure if that will solve the problem. Help.
They sell generic universal trimmer kit on amazon that comes with a white color RH core and an assortment of theaded studs and bushings. These are used for curved shaft trimmer. Only cost 15.00. The problem is the threads you need is not always in the kit....no direction.
I bought an unbranded one and it would turn both ways. When I would give my weed eater throttle the string would come out like 2 ft. I just returned it and I bought the actual echo brand. I wanted to save money buying and unbranded one, moral of the story, dont buy unbranded products!!

How exactly do I get more line out when needed? Cheers brother enjoy that beer
You can mark the top side of the spool with a brush line from fingernail paint or a small blast of aerosol paint to always know proper install.
You should do a video on how to properly grease the Stihl trimmer heads on a FS 131 series brushcutter.

Curved shaft trimmers have RH thread, straight shaft trimmers have LH thread. You have to buy the right one....
