Ah yes I have always loved Lugio, his character was so interesting and had so much good dialogue and thought put into him, so was Marlo, always had nice jokes to keep you happy
Other changes revealed in-game: - Popple now makes noises - During some parts of the game, Bowletta uses Bowser's sound files instead, which I'd understand she's in Bowser, but that just ruins the point of "Bowletta" - Koopalings now have dialogue (that was easy lmfao) - Every boss has a "hissy fit"
Aivaylas something to add on to ur list: In the original game, when u nail the jump command, u stomp on the enemy once, but on the newer version u do a double stomp instead, tho idk whether this changes the total damage or not.
Aivaylas There's also a small change to Luigi's High action command. In the GBA version if you used High. Luigi will bounce on Mario until you press B on the right time so they could Jump very high. But in the remake if you use high, luigi will stand still so It's actually easier to use now.
I can see the need for an easy mode in the last two games in the series, as they can get a bit tough at points, but Superstar Saga is the easiest game in the series by far. It's not a problem they included it in, just... funny. Unless they made the game a lot harder. In which case... great!
Keeoh that's what I'm saying. I would HATE IT if they did that. But knowing Nintendo if they can't get the license for Geno to use here...they're gonna use Starlow. I hope I'm wrong, but to be safe just don't expect anything. At the most it could still be a relief to see Geno, and at the very least if you lower your expectations now you wont be too disappointed.
80% is a very specific number. Have you gone and actually done a statistical breakdown of every game released on 3DS and checked the frame rate of all of them? Cause if not and you made the point to groundlessly make a snarky reply to this relatively unobtrusive comment, you're an ass.
I agree, I don't get why people are pissed, it looks fine. In the gba their animations were really limited, this will give them a wider range to express themselves considering that Mario and Luigi only talk through physical animations.
When I first saw some material from MLSS+, it felt strange to look at the new improved style since the map tile graphics looked like being traced or scaled and filtered, but that was all because of bad compression etc. Newer screens and videos are showing that it's nothing like that and I really love how cool the 3DS version looks (though the original graphics are still timeless).
I really didn't liked some of the changes. They tried to make the game too easy. I could understand if the game was hard, but come on! The game was already easy enough! I hope they add a new hard mode to compensate or something. Also, I liked switching between Mario and Luigi manually, so that Luigi could be in the lead most of the time. The removal of the Advanced Bros. Attacks makes me really sad too. I know, they're still in the game as separate attacks... but it isn't the same, mechanically speaking.
Or you can just not use easy mode. But the advanced Bros attacks is a bit of a bother. I liked pulling them off. THAT took skill and was super satisfying.
I think this game is fine, but i sad in remove things, like Peach Castle cameo in Hoohoo Mountain. Will Bean Fruit Quest still in this game? Anyway i want to see a Full gameplay to take my own review.
Yeah, the new Advanced Bros attacks are mechanically different. They're better. The game making you Trial and Error your way to figuring out the original Advanced ones before you could use them was just some fake difficulty making you potentially waste BP if you messed them up before officially knowing them (or if you're a kid playing this without looking it up there's a good chance you may never have FOUND the advanced ones to begin with.) The change just removes the bullshit. The "challenge" only came from guessing the actual different command the first time, because after that? You activated it like you would any other Bro Attack (it's not like the commands were any harder outside them being hidden,) this just removes the pointless guessing game. They also don't need to "compensate" for the Easy difficulty. Easy game or not, for young kids it can fuck them up (especially if they make bad picks on level up bonuses, which can just leave you screwed hard later in the game if you make that mistake.) I wouldn't object to a hard mode though (unless they made the base game harder, which is very possible.) I still hope you can make Luigi lead, I liked him leading more than Mario. Though it's not the end of the world.
*insert comment complaining about differences* *insert further rant about the art style* All jokes aside though no Advanced attacks makes me sad...meh. EDIT: nvm, they're still there lol
Ah, they separated them and changed the name to "Super" Bros. Attacks. Well that's good to see. I sort of wish they were still one attack as part of the fun to the original for me was figuring out how the advanced techniques worked for myself, but this is objectively better organized so I can't complain too much.
Was about to say that, I loved to pull off the advanced moves by selecting the same attack but with different inputs, but it seems now they are their separate version.
Was it just me, or, was getting that one guy in the bean bean kingdom to build the bridge really annoying?? I would run around and do nothing important and sometimes he builds it fast, and sometimes he doesn't. As a kid it always weirded me out
Yes I know, it was sort of a glitch to be honest... because sometimes I actually went out of my way to go talk to everyone and they still weren't done and then on another gameplay they finished when I just waited 2 minutes
That part wasn't actually time-based. You had to trigger two cutscenes first, the one where Fawful drops a boulder in your way and the one where you need the hammerhead-brothers. After that the bridge was finished. But I agree, that could've really been handled in a less cryptic way.
What neptun said. Honestly, I did get stuck for a bit on my first run. After my second run, I got through it faster, but I still wasn't quite sure what exactly made things go faster.
I remember testing that and the answer is simple, if a bit stupid. There are 4 guys working on the bridge; you simply have to talk with the guy on the far bottom, then exit the screen and enter again. You don't have to wait any time nor talk with any NPC's other than that guy I mentioned
I actually just went and checked it out again and as 22neptun said you also need to trigger the cutscene with Fawful which will consequently make the Hammer Head Bros spawn on their houses. So you need to talk with the bottom guy out of the 4 working on the bridge and with the Hammer Head Bros (the order doesn't matter). After those 2 requirements are achieved the bridge will be constructed
kaleb Powell good idea, have them be hard mode for that boss so that each of her attacks can one shot you. Turn bro items to bro moves so that people drain a lot of BP from using mixed flower spam.
Pretty much all of these changes are either good or optional entirely, which is great. The only one I'm undecided on is the change where Advanced Bros. Attacks are now entirely different commands rather than extensions of others, but it looks like they use more BP, so I guess they balanced it. Also, god those Dream Team graphics look great on this thing. Breathes new life into the Beanbean Kingdom.
Here are gameplay changes I want to happen in the remake: 1. Make the level-up wheel stop on a dime. In the original, after you hit A to stop the level-up wheel, it kept rolling for a little bit before landing on a number. This made bonuses upon level ups essentially random. Partners in Time onward made it a timing minigame, which is innately more rewarding. 2. Make the hammer counter last longer. In the original, after you ready your Hammer for a counter, Mario and Luigi would drop it a mere second afterward and be left vulnerable, making countering with hammers all the more unnecessarily difficult because you have to time when to ready and when to let go of the button. Partners in Time made the time between readying and swinging the hammer much more generous, allowing players to ready the hammers in advance and focus solely on releasing the hammer at the right time. 3. Have level ups give higher stats. This is more of a nitpick, but going back to Superstar Saga, it bugs me how low stats are in that game, HP in particular. In other titles, it's easy to break into the triple digits by the mid-to-late game. In Superstar Saga, it's only really possible with equipment that boosts stats, and rarely does any stat naturally increase by more than two points upon leveling up, which makes the base stat gains feel weak and leveling up not very special in a way. Again, it's more of a nitpick, but I just like seeing bigger numbers in my RPGs.
Nah I'm actually ok with this game being on a 3DS since its a pretty short game, even for an RPG & its a pick & play type of game so I don't see the issue of this game not being on the Switch.
Honestly makes more sense for it to be on the Switch since it was originally a handheld on-the-go game, but it doesn't bother me so much that I won't be picking this up.
JayStack5 Bros moves are much easier to land despite from the dificulty. They can also be practiced anytime whitout entering a Battle or using.bros points. It's possible to save any time instead of searching a book to save. Instead of evading and counter attack it's possible to block and recive less damage. I think there are more reasons bit i don't remember
I don't understand why people are complaining about the easy stuff when it's OPTIONAL. If you don't like the easy stuff don't use it. What people also seem to not understand is Mario games are for everyone including KIDS. The easy stuff are for kids and people having a hard time with the game. So again why are people complaining about this?
The issue is easy has became too easy and hard became normal. Remember in the Arcade era when games were a lot harder then they were now? Kids could play those and get good at those. You'd get a game over a few times, but anyone would learn the game over time. Saying it was made this way for kids is nice, but it also hurts just the same. It is making it so kids don't learn or have to try. It also means there is little merit to playing through higher difficulties. Most people actually tend to play on the lower difficulty option which in turn makes the game a joke, and in turn they expect the next game to follow suit which infinitely loops... and in turn hard modes are made easier as the people who do it on the easiest setting complain. Really it is just an infinite loop which just gets worse and worse. Then everyone hates everyone and we all start fighting and making death threats.
"Mario games are for everyone including kids."....... What did kids play back in the day? Contra, megaman, The second legend of zelda. What do kid gamers today play? Dark souls, bloodborn, The binding of Issac (though I could just suck at the last one). Kids should be challenged not be babied. (Also don't tell me kids don't play M rated games, much as people try they do and will.) What I'm saying is there should always be an easy, normal and hard version given. THEN your game is for everyone. (mature content withstanding.)
Tyronne Jackson. You saw that they added the Super Bros attack under the main one right? That one is pretty much your advanced attack. In an earlier event Nintendo representatives showed of Super Splash Bros.
I know right? I mean, I won't need to get this since I have still have the original so I won't complain too much but it's saddening all the same. I like a bit more challenge in my Mario games. Also, I miss the old style from the first three games. Edit: Ah, OK, maybe they're not fully gone? Really, I'm only here just in case Bowser's Minions gets announced as a standalone game or something.
1Thunderfire It is it's standalone game, it's supposed to be very lengthy and you can play it at anytime. I just hope I can get into that mode, it looks fun but chaotic.
Oh wow Im honestly surprised all the listed changes were actually good. I was expecting at least one change to have been something being butchered. Sad to see the more complicated stronger versions of the attacks going away, but I can definitely understand it. They were ultimately redundant and with all the new features its clear they were going for an easier approach with this remake
But like most of them are all improvements from Paper Jam. The guide book, the fast forward, touch screen change action, in battle practice and demo, really Paper Jam may be the dullest game in the series(which still is better than ok) it has so much improvement on the old tutorial formula people was hype for the tutorial system when it was first shown.
I think my favorite gameplay change not covered here is the fact that hammer counterattacks no longer give you a frustratingly short amount of time to have your hammer out before forcing you to drop it. Especially when the attacks you're countering tend to be hard to time as perfectly as that mechanic wants you to.
I agree with Emily Jared here, Paper Jam wasn't easy at all for me... And I grinded before each area, too... But besides Cackletta's Soul, I had little to no problem with Superstar Saga....
I'll still be purchasing the game but they're going backwards with this series. Remember unlocking a hard mode on Dream Team?! I understand that the series can appeal to younger gamers too, but why remove the challenges like advanced moves? That's why I still own the original today! First Paper Mario, now M&L. Sad times....
Sean Mahoney They didn't get rid of the Advanced Moves. They're now unlockable as "Super" versions of the Bros attacks so that the player doesn't have to guess the button commands for activating them. The only thing they got rid of regarding the Bros attacks was the "1, 2, 3" difficulty setting and simply made an "Easy" and "Hard" mode. The "2" difficulty was pointless because it ran at the same speed as "3" while being just as expensive as "1".
Im so confused why no one is bothered by the change of switching abilities. In the original I only had to press the r or l button once or twice and change the position once. Now I have to press the r button five times to get to the right move without any sense of getting used to navigating. Its already made using the skills a joyless drag. Just needed to vent that. Gonna go back to the original
another one of the gameplay changes that wasn't mentioned was that the ANIMATIONS and TIMING for some of the bros moves have been changed like Bounce Bros, where Mario would jump offscreen onto luigi in the gba version, yet the timing changes to Mario jumping to luigi's feet in the remake. or Mario's advanced splash bros having a different animation and timing from the original. I think these changes are rather interesting
The one thing, the most major thing, that I was worried about not being in the game was M&L's silly dance animations while waiting to choose an action in combat. Oh thank god that vibrant charm was back, it's been sorely missing from EVERY GODDAMN SEQUEL THEY'VE MADE. The bros just absently stare like morons in all the sequels, it's ridiculous.
I got to replaying the original mario and luigi game, and totally forgot about the little charming animations because of the sequels. It really adds something, so I don't know why they took that out. Those little touches add so much character.
What I liked from the original is that when Mario says,” Let’s -a-go!” just before a normal battle, it’s the same audio clip from Mario 64 when you begin a stage. Which has a certain charm to it.
If there is an easy mode, then it would be ludicrous not to include a hard mode, considering the players that played the original, because they know everything that is going to happen
It looks like the enemies have more health to balance out the ability to Double Jump so there might be other changes to recreate the original difficulty. At the very least Double Jumping does not seem to make battles end faster than the original so at least that hasn't made the game super-easy.
I'm happy with number 3 I SUCKED at timing in the GBA version >:( even if the game is the easiest in the series, perfect timing made it impossible for me, so im happy with practice as much as I want
Almost everything of it were changes gradually applied to the Mario & Luigi games. But it's good to hear they are in SS. I remember going back to SS in the Wii U's Virtual Console version and that constant switch between Mario & Luigi AND their's buttons was painful!
Unless the Bros Attacks are now defaulted to the maximum strength/damage variation of the GBA version, I really don't like that change. That flexibility is one of my favorite aspects of the original game. When I first played it, it felt really good feeling myself getting better and better at executing the Bros Attacks and taking the training wheels off, one by one, and even being rewarded with the Advance Bros Attacks when you've completely mastered them.
Normal is basically difficulty 3 from the originals and Easy is basically difficulty 1. They just removed the difficulty 2, because it was beyond pointless. The same speed as level 3, but the same cost as level 1. With only slightly different button Icons. The Advance Bro attacks also didn't have anything to do with "completely mastering" them. It was just using them enough successfully (which was not hard to do,) then getting lucky and figuring out what Advanced ones were (since the game never hinted at them,) and it was often just pointless guesswork to get it the first time (since it involves purposely missing a normal input so you can hit another one elsewhere, that you may or may not know.)
KINGOFDASLIPPYS what are you talking about? ABA are passive upgrades to regularly BA. I never said anything about mastering them being difficult, and yes, I would say that being able to perform a move perfectly a certain amount of times IS a form of mastery. I know you want to feel important for the thousands of nobodies on the internet, but come correct next time you want to needlessly argue semantics.
But hey, thanks for clearing up the difference in how they balanced the tiers for BAs. I'm excited to play this game again. The original is my all time favorite GBA title .
+Daniel Lewis No need to get so defensive. Advanced Bros Attacks aren't passive upgrades though. If they were that'd be one thing, but Advanced Bros Attacks are alternate special moves that often fill a completely different purpose than the original did. Look no further than Luigi's Thunderhand for this. One of them lowers enemy Attack, the other lowers enemy Defense (and hits the whole field.) It's a form of mastery, but it's not close to complete mastery. Given they're not very hard to pull off to begin with. I'm not trying to sound important either, just correcting you.
Bad language on my part initially. Getting ABA still requires proficiency at the basic BA to begin with, so you're still arguing semantics because I used the word "completely". Getting bonus effects for moves that are arguably no more difficult to pull off than the standard L3 version is still a passive ability because it augments your current move with a bonus effect at no cost of additional or alternative resources. If you prefer one to the other, you don't have to use the ABA version, so I'm still not understanding what your overall point is.
One of the most notable changes for coin farmers, and me, the heart blocks. A trick to farm coins, along with spoilers, is that with Mini Mario, who you get in Chucklehuck Woods, you can High Jump but jump with Mario to lower Luigi's HP but get coins at the same time. You can also do this in the original GBA version.
Oh, come on, they took away the Advanced Bro attacks? That was one of the most interesting mechanics in that game!! (reads comments) Hmmm... so they're actually different attacks now... I hope you can still learn them the old way, by using the original version repeatedly
You do. You still learn them the same way, it just adds it to your list once they do their little "Advanced" mid battle chat. Instead of making you do the guesswork.
I liked the originals way of doing it better. "Press a while doing this attack to target multiple ground enemies. Press b to target a singular ground or airborne enemy and also lower its defense." Made it much more interesting
Luffink25 The Advanced attacks are the same as the original and they can be learned using the Normal attacks multiple times. Also they are called now "Super Attacks".
Yeah I mean if they take the effort to put in additional difficulty levels, why not put in a harder mode while they're at it? I mean Samus Returns just came out and that game has TWO harder modes. I'd at least like ONE for this game.
Advanced attacks arent gone lmao. The three modes of attacks just determined whether it would show button prompts or not, which is now in 2 modes here, advanced attacks still exist
Do you still only do a single jump on enemies in battle instead of bouncing like in the third onwards? Is countering with the hammer still a pain in the ass?
They added an Easy mode? I figured with all of the other additions to make the game easier would've been enough. I don't even remember Superstar Saga being that hard in the first place? Too bad they didn't add a Hard mode as well...
KamektheMagikoopa1 Cackletta's Soul wasn't too bad. It's only mildly difficult as a kid when you don't know how to optimize equipment and level ups. Otherwise it isn't too bad.
Really? No mention of the Heart Block? I find that to be a pretty big improvement from the original (though I read that the Japanese version had them).
The map is stupid. And I never have played the GBA version. AND they Took away mario and luigi pushing each other to get into the picture when you went into your inventory
How dare they make changes!! Hahaha the ones you shown seem nice. The practice mode for the bros attacks is needed. Though not sure by how much since you need to do them a lot to unlock the advanced versions of them. Guess the practice mode would be great for practicing the advanced ones then.
Seems much better alot of these things are what kept me from finishing the original although it was alot of fun it got tedius these changes will definitely help alot
okay, seriously? Mario and Luigis Jump-Buttons stay? I actually always preffered for one button being for the front man and vice versa, felt way more natural
Superstar saga is one f my favorite childhood games, and I personally liked these changes, some of them made the game less tedious. The only thing is that some changes made the game easier, like the easy mode (but that's not a problem since that it is optional), but it kinda compensates the fact that they buffed some bosses, especially one of them (the ones that already beated the game will know what boss am I talking about).
Roddy Rivera the old syestem was better stop changing it i want my.advanced options better its more fun to activate them halfway threw an attack not them being separate
Mcbabbitt44 The problem is that in the original, they never told you what advance attacks were. Unless you randomly decided to press a different button during an attack, it was unlikely to ever figure out what it meant
I was on board with most of the accessibility changes, as they were either optional or improved conveyance, without actually making the core game easier. That is, until the removal of the different difficulties for special moves. I hardly ever had the skill to use the higher levels, admittedly, but it was something that really encouraged you to get even better at the attacks, and for memorizing the button presses and timings without the need for the flashy visual queues, you were rewarded. It was a bit of gamble during battle, and you had to weigh your skill against the potential reward. It created a certain tension. *sigh*
I don´t know how you can say the graphs were improved. that's very subjective. I know, the purpose of this video is to share an opinion. but still, the art is really flashy. One can tell that after looking at the idle animations during battles.
Screw all this easy mode shit. We shouldn't be babying everyone, if you want to play it well, just practice the game mechanics. Why do we feel the need to make everything to damn easy for everyone?
If you find the game hard in the original version it doesn't mean that it should be also hard in the remake. Besides, its OPTIONAL. Just don't play it on easy mode. So stop bitching about the game.
GoldPoptart It is a video game. It is supposed to be fun for ANYONE to play. Having an easy mode and a normal mode makes everyone happy. They're not forcing easy mode on you.
Honestly, super star saga was not in any need of a remake, let alone slapping it with the over saturated, pseudo 3D dream team art style. The over simplification of the game is also a bit off putting. An easy button? Really?
A remake was very welcomed, especially a graphical improvement and a variety of quality of life features that were added in later titles (like all the touch screen bros attack switching and an actual Bros Attack Practice option.) The game isn't "oversimplified" in the least because it added an Easy difficulty for younger children. This kind of elitism is like a bad joke at this point. Or do you consider removing the pointless random guesswork from figuring out the Advanced Bros Attacks without a guide "oversimplified?" Because all that was originally was a bit of Fake difficulty, locking useful techniques behind an alternate activation that you may or may not know even exists (on account of the game being unclear.)
Oh wow someone reasonable in the comments. The new art style is just too plain and boring compared to the original sprites, they were so fucking expressive and delightful.
Good job putting words in people's mouths. That's the sign someone can't actually argue their point worth a damn. The OP says the game is oversimplified (which is factually incorrect.) Not to mention Superstar Saga's bigger field sprites (Bowser and Queen Bean are some of the most notable,) were really in need of an update, because they looked super squished and really bad in the original.
What happened to high jump? Is the coin trick gone? And what does the Y button do? I was expecting it to be X for Mario jump and Y for Luigi jump, but it's not, so I'm guessing Y does something else.
Oh wow, I just played mario and luigi paper jam and then watched this, everything they added here came from that game, UI, save anywhere, fast forward, easy mode... pretty cool to make this game more accessible, these changes are mostly QOL improvements.
i have the orginal on wii u and that's the same saving mechanic (almost, you need to press ZL, ZR or touch the touchscreen to go to a menu and then tap on make savepoint) because you can play further without needing a save album!
The only time I had to put the easy mode on was when fighting Ludwigshafen as they completely changed his fight that requires you get you hammers ready to stop his magic assaults 20 times before he even casts them as well as keeping the bros alive to hit back a instant death orb
3. (4:07) isn't that kind of the point? chopper bros is already overpowered and having it be easy might as well just hand you the game on a silver platter they also only affected BP in the original game, they just took the middle level out -which was almost useless anyway since it didn't affect cost-
Most people disagree, but the X button thing is really helpful. But I have to agree with one thing: those circle while doing Bros. Attacks that are meant to help with the timing are the most annoying things in Mario & Luigi history. And even if these comments complaining about Nintendo making the game too easy are repetitive, I do agree that somethings were unnecessary, such as Easy Mode (Don't let people take the easy route!), The Story So Far (Just ask the NPCs.), the Save button on the touch screen (Are you so lazy that you can't find a Save block?), and Emergency Guard (Makes the game too easy, even with Easy Mode turned off.)
I know the video focuses on "what new thing that weren't in the original are present now", but literally most of these have been incorporated thought the years in the M&L series of games lol
The Bros. Attacks were the worst thing about SS for me. They were fun to pull off; that's not my beef. My beef was that if you forgot how to execute them or the advanced variant, you were boned unless you looked it up. That made the original a drag for me since I was very on and off about it.
So thoughts on the changes individually, 10: The story so far feature reminds me of the journal mechanic from the 4th gen Pokémon games. Not bad especially seeing how Mario games plot isn't it's strong suit so not too shabby to buff it up. 9: a map feature is always nice, although the amount of zoom is a little silly, this isn't metroid. 8: ah fast text! Perfect for the add gamer. Nice job by using the R button for comfort. 7: gotta use that touch screen somehow, again well done. Reminds me of how they did the weapons system in Samus Returns. And having the old way is always nice. 6: having a perm jump button is ok. 5: not necessary but it's nice to know if you ambushed the enemy 4: guard is ok, maybe this gives the defense stat a buff technically? 3: Bros attacks being easier is ok but not huge. Not a fan that the different styles of the bros attacks are gone. 2: Don't really care about the easy mode... I always was under the assumption that Mario RPGs were the most basic of them all, seeing how Mario has that magic of easy pick up and play. 1: having a save button in the menu is great but why are there still save blocks then? Have one or the other, it's silly to have both.
We can't maually swap positions? How will I spam "Let's Go!" "Okie-dokie!" "Let's Go!" "Okie-dokie!" "Let's Go!" "Okie-dokie!"
Mister Twisty What a disgrace.
Yes you can. Around 2:26 you can see the player with Lugio first and Marlo behind
Ah yes I have always loved Lugio, his character was so interesting and had so much good dialogue and thought put into him, so was Marlo, always had nice jokes to keep you happy
Hey, now you can spam m hammer, l hammer, m jump, m fire (2) L thunder (2) now. Better than that? Idk
Welp, time to be mean to little. Bro and sis
Other changes revealed in-game:
- Popple now makes noises
- During some parts of the game, Bowletta uses Bowser's sound files instead, which I'd understand she's in Bowser, but that just ruins the point of "Bowletta"
- Koopalings now have dialogue (that was easy lmfao)
- Every boss has a "hissy fit"
Aivaylas something to add on to ur list: In the original game, when u nail the jump command, u stomp on the enemy once, but on the newer version u do a double stomp instead, tho idk whether this changes the total damage or not.
Aivaylas There's also a small change to Luigi's High action command. In the GBA version if you used High. Luigi will bounce on Mario until you press B on the right time so they could Jump very high. But in the remake if you use high, luigi will stand still so It's actually easier to use now.
Aivaylas Hermie III was nerfed because of status.
"Snicker" hissy fit lol
(Sorry)
Easy mode?
For _Superstar Saga_ ?!
*laughs uproariously*
Skawo Lol
Fancy seeing YOU here!
Skawo EEEH?? EASY MODO?!?! HOW LAME~! ONLY KIDS PLAY IN EASY MODE~!!! KYAHAHAHA~~!
Likewise?
I can see the need for an easy mode in the last two games in the series, as they can get a bit tough at points, but Superstar Saga is the easiest game in the series by far.
It's not a problem they included it in, just... funny.
Unless they made the game a lot harder. In which case... great!
If Geno isn't featured in the Star Stacker game in Little Fungitown, we riot
Ash Ketchup ok
I hope to God it's not replaced with a Starlow cameo.
If gino is replaced. I will have my FURY
VGM Studios Starlow? Why Starlow?
Keeoh that's what I'm saying. I would HATE IT if they did that. But knowing Nintendo if they can't get the license for Geno to use here...they're gonna use Starlow. I hope I'm wrong, but to be safe just don't expect anything. At the most it could still be a relief to see Geno, and at the very least if you lower your expectations now you wont be too disappointed.
This game runs in 60fps...
There is a God.
But 0% of Mario and Luigi games (on the 3DS) run at 60. That was my main flaw with Dream Team and Paper Jam, they were 30.
Pasi. Who's the idiot now
80% is a very specific number. Have you gone and actually done a statistical breakdown of every game released on 3DS and checked the frame rate of all of them? Cause if not and you made the point to groundlessly make a snarky reply to this relatively unobtrusive comment, you're an ass.
Old games run at 60 fps before it became a thing for gamers, apparently. Though this is slightly off topic as this is M&L series we are talking about.
+UitchatZero
And probably said "80%" just so people'll believe him, better than exaggerating and saying "99%".
I grew up with Superstar Saga, but I'm actually a HUGE fan of the new art! It's so clean looking.
I love all Mario and Luigi games. I've played through every one and I already preordered this.
I agree, I don't get why people are pissed, it looks fine. In the gba their animations were really limited, this will give them a wider range to express themselves considering that Mario and Luigi only talk through physical animations.
JacksonLOVESNintendo Me too man I love that game
JacksonLOVESNintendo It's gonna be so much fun taking a trip down memory lane
When I first saw some material from MLSS+, it felt strange to look at the new improved style since the map tile graphics looked like being traced or scaled and filtered, but that was all because of bad compression etc. Newer screens and videos are showing that it's nothing like that and I really love how cool the 3DS version looks (though the original graphics are still timeless).
Aw man who else like to put Luigi in front just because Mario was always in front
Me lol
Eh I didn’t because it didn’t feel right XD
It felt really weird if I did that lol
Me'm
I really didn't liked some of the changes. They tried to make the game too easy.
I could understand if the game was hard, but come on! The game was already easy enough!
I hope they add a new hard mode to compensate or something.
Also, I liked switching between Mario and Luigi manually, so that Luigi could be in the lead most of the time.
The removal of the Advanced Bros. Attacks makes me really sad too. I know, they're still in the game as separate attacks... but it isn't the same, mechanically speaking.
Nintendofan012 The only "hard" part for me was not knowing to wack Mario with the hammer to make him spit in the whirlwind at "Jokes End".
You put Luigi in the lead all the time too?
Honestly this is kind of dissappointing. I don't think I'll get this version.
Yeah, the new Advanced Bros attacks are mechanically different.
They're better. The game making you Trial and Error your way to figuring out the original Advanced ones before you could use them was just some fake difficulty making you potentially waste BP if you messed them up before officially knowing them (or if you're a kid playing this without looking it up there's a good chance you may never have FOUND the advanced ones to begin with.)
The change just removes the bullshit. The "challenge" only came from guessing the actual different command the first time, because after that? You activated it like you would any other Bro Attack (it's not like the commands were any harder outside them being hidden,) this just removes the pointless guessing game.
They also don't need to "compensate" for the Easy difficulty. Easy game or not, for young kids it can fuck them up (especially if they make bad picks on level up bonuses, which can just leave you screwed hard later in the game if you make that mistake.) I wouldn't object to a hard mode though (unless they made the base game harder, which is very possible.)
I still hope you can make Luigi lead, I liked him leading more than Mario. Though it's not the end of the world.
*insert comment complaining about differences*
*insert further rant about the art style*
All jokes aside though no Advanced attacks makes me sad...meh.
EDIT: nvm, they're still there lol
MarioSonicGamer
They exist- they just work a little better.
MarioSonicGamer are you blind?there are advance attacks.
MarioSonicGamer in the clip talking about the bros attacks you could see super splash bros, it's just a separate move now.
Why would you want to skip cutscenes... smh. Unless you're needing to refight a boss.
Or for speedrunning
Why not? A feature like that is never a bad thing!
Logandactyl If you forget to save after a long cutscene it would be really nice and great to have that feature.
Well there you go, you answered your own question.
Logandactyl maybe for speedrunning Games
I wonder if the Mush Badges are still overpowered.
Lazz Does Games I think that they'll be nerfed in the remakes.
Lazz Does Games the mush badge was nerfed in the Japanese version of the original game so expect it to be nerfed here
They got nerfed all the way back in PiT
Satyam Saha The Risk Badge is pretty OP.
Lazz Does Games sadly it now just turns coins into mushrooms
Who's ready to have Luigi in front of Mario for no reason
The GoosinGamer 21
*red luigi
*Green Mario
You can't do that anymore, apparently.
GuyWithThePie You can, but you have to leave the command out this time
The GoosinGamer 21 Yeah, about that....... only with commands :/
They need to do partners in time. But add a hard mode so the evolved elder princess shroob can kill me 5 times more often
kaleb Powell good idea, have them be hard mode for that boss so that each of her attacks can one shot you. Turn bro items to bro moves so that people drain a lot of BP from using mixed flower spam.
@@itsatentaquil3152 bp?
Jonathan Odude bros points
@@itsatentaquil3152 bros points don't exist in PiT
@@OatZ I know it doesn't, it's why I said turn bros items to bros points/moves
Pretty much all of these changes are either good or optional entirely, which is great. The only one I'm undecided on is the change where Advanced Bros. Attacks are now entirely different commands rather than extensions of others, but it looks like they use more BP, so I guess they balanced it.
Also, god those Dream Team graphics look great on this thing. Breathes new life into the Beanbean Kingdom.
I liked the difficulty of the bros attacks. It made battle more interesting for me.
They kept the dancing :D

*CUTSCENE FAST-FORWARDING*
Every game should have this
Here are gameplay changes I want to happen in the remake:
Based on what I've seen from paper jam, it looks like you can hold the hammer counter basically as long as you want, but it may not be the case here
Also of note is that enemy stats here are higher (M & L's are still the same) than in the original, even in easy mode.
InB4 "Why not on Switch." Comments
Samuel Schilmeister actually you were 1 minute late 😢
WHY ISNADTM IT ONS IWTTCHO
Nah I'm actually ok with this game being on a 3DS since its a pretty short game, even for an RPG & its a pick & play type of game so I don't see the issue of this game not being on the Switch.
There's one directly above you on my end
Honestly makes more sense for it to be on the Switch since it was originally a handheld on-the-go game, but it doesn't bother me so much that I won't be picking this up.
Why are people complaining so much about the easy mode? It's OPTIONAL.
JayStack5 cause the game was already easier
juscrix Easier... than what?
JayStack5
Bros moves are much easier to land despite from the dificulty.
They can also be practiced anytime whitout entering a Battle or using.bros points.
It's possible to save any time instead of searching a book to save.
Instead of evading and counter attack it's possible to block and recive less damage.
I think there are more reasons bit i don't remember
juscrix still all optional
JayStack5
I just realized that you are Wright
Hmm kinda sounds like this whole game got the easy mode treatment
Just beat it once, then you can have access to hard mode, or have someone else do your bidding and have them beat it for you
Jevan Allen D: i be in truble (i am gonna be in a tight spot soon)
God, the cloud effects. The animations. This game is beautiful!
Because the original game is already easy
If a kid wants to play an easy game, don't make them invade our childhood
Because some gamers are entitled, selfish bastards.
Wait they took out the advanced bro attacks? That sucks so much!
Nope, at 4:26, you can see "Super Splash Bros."
It only got a name change.
No it doesn't.
I wonder if geno is still in the minigame
yes geno 2017 look
If so, contact Chugga... *now.*
Nope
Seeing luigi cheering as Mario pulled off that Super Splash Bros makes me so happy inside i cant even.
So... it's just stuff that was in Dream Team and Paper Jam
Because they aren't new features.
They're new to Superstar Saga, which is the point.
victikirby15 been awhile since I've seen u
Call me Zelda ONE more time I don't know who you are but hi
So you said the buttons no longer switch bros when you change their position, but is there a setting to reverse that?
17 people lost their voice to Cackletta!
I think my favorite gameplay change not covered here is the fact that hammer counterattacks no longer give you a frustratingly short amount of time to have your hammer out before forcing you to drop it. Especially when the attacks you're countering tend to be hard to time as perfectly as that mechanic wants you to.
I don't like how much easier they're making the game, it makes me think of paper jam (shivers)
Capdo Joe paper jam was good to be honest
Also they're making the enemies for generic. I just hope they don't change my favorite enemy, tanoomba.
Capdo Joe I'm confused here. For me, paper jam was by far the hardest in the series and superstar saga was trivially easy
I agree with Emily Jared here, Paper Jam wasn't easy at all for me... And I grinded before each area, too...
But besides Cackletta's Soul, I had little to no problem with Superstar Saga....
The Tanoombas kept their design, and the boomerang bros, even dry bones.
Oh you forgot one very big one: They added Heart Blocks so no more wasting Mushrooms to constantly heal yourself.
Swift Shock Great to hear they're unlockable, but I'm still a bit worried about the simplification of the game. Hope I'm proven wrong!
Sean Mahoney Well? Did you enjoy it?
Jinsei Cast Sorry, I don't follow. The original?
Are the mush badges still broken
*Insert whiny comment about minor changes here*
On a separate note, I'm not 100% how to feel about the fact of the 3 different modes of the Bros. Attacks seemingly being gone.
that means the Italian gibberish is gone
Im so confused why no one is bothered by the change of switching abilities. In the original I only had to press the r or l button once or twice and change the position once. Now I have to press the r button five times to get to the right move without any sense of getting used to navigating. Its already made using the skills a joyless drag. Just needed to vent that. Gonna go back to the original
I really wanted to see a harder difficulty for this game...and then its made easier.
another one of the gameplay changes that wasn't mentioned was that the ANIMATIONS and TIMING for some of the bros moves have been changed like Bounce Bros, where Mario would jump offscreen onto luigi in the gba version, yet the timing changes to Mario jumping to luigi's feet in the remake. or Mario's advanced splash bros having a different animation and timing from the original.
At the very least Double Jumping does not seem to make battles end faster than the original so at least that hasn't made the game super-easy.
superWTF64lol Its optional, the game has the same difficulty as the original
Anyone know if there's a Hard Mode?
The original is my all time favorite GBA title
.
+Daniel Lewis
No need to get so defensive.
Advanced Bros Attacks aren't passive upgrades though. If they were that'd be one thing, but Advanced Bros Attacks are alternate special moves that often fill a completely different purpose than the original did. Look no further than Luigi's Thunderhand for this. One of them lowers enemy Attack, the other lowers enemy Defense (and hits the whole field.)
It's a form of mastery, but it's not close to complete mastery.
(reads comments)
Hmmm... so they're actually different attacks now...
Yup
Thanks for this, this is video is the only place I could actually shows the major differences in the two versions.
So there's an easy mode...
BUT IS THERE A HARD MODE?
I WANT A HARD MODE!
ShyGuyXXL the game was way too easy I beat all the bosses on my first or second try
Except caclettas soul
Probably like DT, after you beat the game once
Yeah I mean if they take the effort to put in additional difficulty levels, why not put in a harder mode while they're at it?
I mean Samus Returns just came out and that game has TWO harder modes. I'd at least like ONE for this game.
Advanced attacks arent gone lmao. The three modes of attacks just determined whether it would show button prompts or not, which is now in 2 modes here, advanced attacks still exist
So in other words: "They included the quality of life features that were in Paper Jam"
MudKevin Remember Cackletta's Soul?
Yeh I wanted a hard mode so hard
MudKevin After you beat the game there's options for a hard mode
KamektheMagikoopa1
Cackletta's Soul wasn't too bad. It's only mildly difficult as a kid when you don't know how to optimize equipment and level ups. Otherwise it isn't too bad.
+KamektheMagikoopa1 inb4 caklettas soul fight starts you with 25% hp instead of 1
If you can save anywhere; what's the point of the save albums? Because they were already there?
Most of these changes are in previous games, they just put back some features from paper jam
Most were actually in Dream Team first
I like how he talks about the demo moves like there something new, yet we had them sense the 3rd game Bowsers inside story.
NiCe!
I thought this was very Nickle Cerium too
But the real question here, what music does fawful's final battle have?
I'm pissed by how easy they made the game
Sonic the Saiyan still harder then the original
From what I can tell, each boss in the original game takes two minutes to beat. They made the bosses much more fun to fight.
Really? No mention of the Heart Block? I find that to be a pretty big improvement from the original (though I read that the Japanese version had them).
Most likely the reason why he didn't mention it since all of these are new to every version of the original.
The map is stupid. And I never have played the GBA version. AND they Took away mario and luigi pushing each other to get into the picture when you went into your inventory
How is a map stupid
Meervo I want the game to be harder not easier
The map makes the game less tedius and annoying, not easier
All the DS games had a map.
BigHailFan true that
It's been years but after seeing some of these changes I'm definitely just gonna stick to emulating the original
Why? 😅
Same, also the music Is worse
Most of these things were established in Paper Jam
Yes, that's why it's top ten changes in mario and Luigi super star saga and not just changes in mario and Luigi
Hey, at least it doesn't take 5 years to save now, so that's good.
I miss the old artstyle of the Mario and Luigi games. Why can't they improve upon Bowser's Inside Story artstyle?
Master Vidxad 58 befause 3D. And honestly I don't mind the style personally but I can see why people don't.
It's the same artstyle...the 3D-ish look just doesn't suit your needs.
Dream Team was the only game to have Hard Mode
*GIVE US BACK HARD MODE.*
okay, seriously? Mario and Luigis Jump-Buttons stay? I actually always preffered for one button being for the front man and vice versa, felt way more natural
Jack Stamper Well you can change them, but its different.
Is the boss theme the same
Why not on switch?
Edit: This comment was just cause someone commented inb4 "Why not on switch" comments
Jose A Rivera Arambula Because it was on handheld first, so it stays handheld
RayMinishi
That's a dumb reason because the Switch *is* a handheld. Lol
Because way more people own a 3ds.
Not everyone can afford a switch and the 3ds has a larger install base
+MudKevin Stop lying.
For criticizing a game for being too verbose, y'all's videos are way too wordy.
All these changes are for the better, from someone who grew on the GBA orginal, this improves the game tenfold.
No advanced bro attacks? -12/10
Roddy Rivera there are advance attacks bro, and making them separate attacks make all of this better
In the GBA version, different button commands showed up in addition to the original when you unlocked an Advanced move.
3:47 "...if you had a tough time dodging attacks in the original game, you were kinda screwed."
>laughs in shyguymask
So, they made the game easier? What, for weaklings?
geekgo4 yes
Well there's an easy mode, but there's still a normal one. But I get what your saying
Kids
filthy casuals
You know kids play these games, right buddy?
mastering the level 3 bros attacks was one of the most satisfying things in this game.
Not to mention 720p60
Nemon Cubez More like 240p 60
Norspark nope 720p
3DS isnt HD lmao
I wonder since they double jump for attacks now so the enemies have more HP or do the bros have less power?
Screw all this easy mode shit. We shouldn't be babying everyone, if you want to play it well, just practice the game mechanics. Why do we feel the need to make everything to damn easy for everyone?
Especially in an RPG where you could just level up more.
If you find the game hard in the original version it doesn't mean that it should be also hard in the remake. Besides, its OPTIONAL. Just don't play it on easy mode. So stop bitching about the game.
GoldPoptart um, it's optional so you shouldn't care.
GoldPoptart It is a video game. It is supposed to be fun for ANYONE to play. Having an easy mode and a normal mode makes everyone happy. They're not forcing easy mode on you.
Lot of the changes are taken from the 3DS M&L games. So I guess that makes sense why they are carried over
Honestly, super star saga was not in any need of a remake, let alone slapping it with the over saturated, pseudo 3D dream team art style. The over simplification of the game is also a bit off putting. An easy button? Really?
A remake was very welcomed, especially a graphical improvement and a variety of quality of life features that were added in later titles (like all the touch screen bros attack switching and an actual Bros Attack Practice option.)
The game isn't "oversimplified" in the least because it added an Easy difficulty for younger children.
>Reasonable
>Clouded by nostalgia
"Everyone that disagrees with me must be clouded by nostalgia"
3. (4:07)
isn't that kind of the point? chopper bros is already overpowered and having it be easy might as well just hand you the game on a silver platter
they also only affected BP in the original game, they just took the middle level out -which was almost useless anyway since it didn't affect cost-
Most people disagree, but the X button thing is really helpful.
2:32 I personally wish they kept the feature because I liked Luigi being able to be on front.
If there's no Mario Bros. minigame, I'll be madder than a wet hen.
In all seriousness, it looks pretty amazing.
When you're excited for this game but you realize Joke's End is still going to exist
Tha advanced bros moves are not gone they are just replaced by super versions which are basically advanced techniques
The Bros. Attacks were the worst thing about SS for me. They were fun to pull off; that's not my beef. My beef was that if you forgot how to execute them or the advanced variant, you were boned unless you looked it up. That made the original a drag for me since I was very on and off about it.
So thoughts on the changes individually,
10: The story so far feature reminds me of the journal mechanic from the 4th gen Pokémon games.
5: not necessary but it's nice to know if you ambushed the enemy
4: guard is ok, maybe this gives the defense stat a buff technically?
3: Bros attacks being easier is ok but not huge. Not a fan that the different styles of the bros attacks are gone.
2: Don't really care about the easy mode... I always was under the assumption that Mario RPGs were the most basic of them all, seeing how Mario has that magic of easy pick up and play.
1: having a save button in the menu is great but why are there still save blocks then? Have one or the other, it's silly to have both.
Adam Bass For number 1, maybe some people like to save the old fashioned way? In DT, I only used the menu save for emergencies.
