Honestly with how clunky the original can feel (I played through it last year) I think the update is a much welcome addition. I loved the OG Super Star Saga, but I was sorely missing a lot of the improvements the later games made when I was playing it.
Basically... Pros: Improved graphics and backgrounds, Improved music, fluid animation with more frames, game is more balanced, new map system, the writing and jokes still are identical. It still is a good game and a good remake, but it doesn't replaces the original for me.
First, your cons can be sumed up to saying you didn't like the new art style direction. Which, in fact, is extremely subjetive unlike the pros you mentioned. Moving on, it literally feels like a whole another game. Even small details like the sound effects that play when a character is talking to give a sense of their voice, is so different in each two I just couldn't find myself feeling nostalgic but instead amused at all the new things. Crazy stuff.
I don't have a problem with the new artstyle at all. I just think they shouldn't have replaced some characters and old designs. I would have no problem at all if the old designs (Genp, Bink, Different Toads, Fat Koopas etc) were in the remake with the new artstyle. The problem is that they aren't.
Even if they wanted to, they probably couldn't use Geno because Square Enix owns him. And that really irks me; it's not like they're using Geno for Final Fantasy games or anything.

gonna be honest, this review sounded like the whole issue was nostalgia. not saying your giving a bad review cause everything you said was fair and well thought out, but i think the game not surpassing your original experience has to do with expectation of how the original experience went. if someone were to maybe play this game first then go back, it could have the opposite effect. so its more important to note if the game is a good enough remake and port worth playing rather than how it stacks to the original. you wouldnt play sonic genesis over the original but you could def play this over the original. it also opens up the Whats important about a remake argument. for me polish and quality of life improvements always supersede art style and musical improvements, because at the end of the day im playing a video game and that will always shine through the gameplay. the other 2 are things that are taste specific. i dont think changing some of the enemy sprites and reactions was as important as better maps and fast forwarding through text. but thats just me. and the real thing about this topic is finding the balance because there's always gonna be a divide.
Talking about the easy difficulty is kind of a moot point since the original is probably the easiest in the entire series: that game is incredibly easy to break, some boss battles only last like four turns because you're so overpowered. I was hoping they at least fixed that since the last two games could be at least a bit challenging, but it seems like that's not the case.
This game is definitely more catered to people like me who are too young to have played the original game on the GBA. Personally, I love the remake. When I compare the graphics to the original, I have a hard time seeing what makes the original graphics better. Maybe it's me being more used to DT's engine, but the remake is a vast improvement over the original. Environments are better and sprites look more natural. Even when I compare cutscenes and battles side-by-side, I don't see any less emotion in the sprites. On difficulty, it's not a particularly hard game, but there are times when the game does become challenging. The bosses in particular did get a little tough. I used more 1-ups than I'd like to admit, though I never got a game over. I think that the game is challenging enough that it doesn't get too boring, but easy enough that I didn't get stuck on any part for more that a moment. On a side note, I didn't even touch easy mode. I also had a lot of fun with Bowser's Minions. The writing was fantastic and entertaining in my opinion. With the exception of grinding, which I always hate to do no matter the game, it always entertained me, be it the writing or the different gameplay. It didn't get boring because I switched between the main game and sub-game whenever it started to get even a little boring. Overall, I think that the remake it a fantastic game. I had a lot of fun with it and it's definitely one of of my top favorite games. I have no idea what kind of reputation it's suppose to be living up to with the original, but I can say that I love Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions. (Edit): I realize after posting that I just made a mini-review of the game. I have more thoughts, but the comment is really big as is. I'm going to give it a 9.5/10, because grinding really sucks in BM.
I was also too young too play it on gba but I when I was younger I kept playing games on emulator and I randomly found that game. I do really like the original style but years later I'm an big fan of the mario and luigi series.
I agree with the review, but I kinda disagree about the new character sprites being bland. At the very least, Mario & Luigi's animations are really awesome and more fluid compared to the GBA version (and don't worry I've played the original and loved it, so I can understand why some would prefer it). It's a shame Bowser's Minions isn't as fun though... Regardless, I'll definitely be getting this game!
JBX9001 The sprites look great, it's just that the original animations were more expressive and exaggerated, which made it more appealing and funny. The Mario and Luigi series also benefits more with sprite work. Bowser's sprite in BIS is better than any 3d render of him.
Well, they are still 2D sprites, just really high quality ones I guess. At the same time, yeah, they were more exaggerated back then. I really try not to be too picky about graphics though; I've grown to really like the new art direction taken with the 3DS games in the series, but I can still appreciate the traditional sprite work in the first three! That's just me though, others might see it differently. As long as the game is still good [which it is in this case] I have no problems with it! Of course, Super Mario is my favorite video game franchise, so I'm not one to complain about it all that often...
Lets be honest... They cut the corner by using wiggler, and Toad, Sprites from Dream Team... Cutting corners let them make the game better so I don't care. Never played the original either so think about folks like me!
In my opinion, not having those expressions doesn't make this game a bad game, or not worth the price. I buy the Mario and Luigi game for its story, not for its little gags. Not saying your viewpoint is wrong, just saying that in my opinion, the bland changes doesn't break the game for me! The story still holds up (I still have not finished the OG, because every copy I get of it seems to either not save, or I'm unable to play it, as in controls on my device stops working) So this is my only resort anyway! :D
The original is still beautiful but this 3D remake looks sooo NICE 😍 I was never aware until this year that they had a remake , overall I played this on GBA years ago What a Really good Christmas
Weird remake logic If the game hasn't been remade: we want a remake the game has been remade: Its soulless they ruined the original leave the original alone. They casualized it and so on Technically rhe only exception to the rules mentioned is RES1 remake.
Mihd 98 we are saying dont fix if not broken. I like the fact they made a remake, but they made the little things generic, and that is what made the game’s charm.
I HAVE FURY!! Mainly because this remake doesn't look as good visually as the original. The gameplay and writing look as good as ever, though, so that's nice.
I wholeheartedly disagree. This is for me the pinnacle of the Mario & Luigi art style. That is unless Alphadream got their stuff together and made a Mario & Luigi game for Nintendo Switch, for obvious reasons.
PinkNight I love the super star saga art style. But they changed a lot of the quirky visual effects and textures/patterns and switched them to something more generic. Not bad, but they definitely changed the art style and character body languages in a lot of places. I'm still getting it. And I think you're still thinking of graphics. Putting something on switch won't change the art style, it will change the graphics. Graphics and art style are different things.
Again, I disagree. I still see the funny quirkiness in Mario and Luigi's behavior as well as in the environment. I am surprised to have the necessity of explaining myself. What I meant is that with the graphical superiority of the Nintendo Switch, Alphadream could fully use that potential for even more beautiful, more expressive graphics for a new Mario and Luigi game, since that way, the artstyle could benefit with bigger and with higher resolution sprites or 3D environments.
This game looks beautiful, holy hell. Loved SS, so I'll definitely be picking this up, especially now that I know they basically didn't fix things that weren't broken. Same classic but with the beautiful style of Dream Team? Yes please. Kinda wished they added a hard mode instead of an easy mode though, as SS is probably the easiest game in the series. Could've used a bit more challenge. I think it's also kinda unfair to say that the new art style is lifeless. It's not as exaggerated, but in my opinion that means the game is a lot more consistent and often better in appearance. There are instances in SS where the over-exaggerated nature lead to a decrease in sprite quality and just general looks (that old Bowser sprite is... not good). Definitely comes down to personal taste, though. Great review!
Almond Joy Yeah! A sucessor to 3DS when Pokémon, 2D Zelda and Inazuma Eleven are on Switch..... Come on, there isn't going to have a 4DS to replace the 3Ds. Switch is the WiiU and 3Ds sucessor and Mobile will become the Second pillar of revenue for Nintendo when the 3Ds stop being produced and having developed games in 2019.
BlueGator The 3ds is still exceptionally relevant. The DS lasted 10 years, and the 3ds has only been around for 6 years. The 3ds also has gotten a let of great games, and more is still to come. Just because the NX is portable doesn't mean you take it outside all the time. The 3ds is for anywhere, anytime, while the Switch still is a console. Don't tell me you play on portable mode 24/7, cause you don't. The 3ds is also getting Mario Party Top 100, possibly the best in the series. The 3ds isn't going anywhere, and the Switch isn't replacing it, especially with 67 million people on the 3ds, while the Switch isn't even close to that yet.
I really liked bowser Minions story, the charm is incredible and as a Pikmin fan, i like the idea of taking up your army and make the best with what you got.
I remember when quality was all that mattered. noone told us what to do, all Moms were busy in the kitchen, and all Dads were busy at the office trying to get that minimum wage.
Shawn McCumber Seems like it, yeah. From the gameplay I've seen, and as a huge fan of the original, my main complaint is not seeing specific animations recreated exactly the same way, just with new graphics. The gameplay itself seems absolutely lovely.
6:13. I disagree. Having a 3D option would need the whole world to be made in 3D, which would lose a lot of the detail it got. I'm perfectly fine with it being 2D, because it makes everything look beautiful Like those jaggy edges. On 3D, they would've been straight edges because the 3DS couldn't handle too many polygons on-screen. Given it's all made of sprites, they could make those jaggy edges because it only needs transparencies around them, instead of a full 3D model
Pedro Gonzales What is Dr. Today doing here anyway! He doesn't even have anything to do with the Bean Kingdom, and is supposed to be helping people in the Mushroom Kingdom. It just throws off his important role in BIS.
This game is gonna be amazing. I admit I do think the Bowser's Minions mode looks more fun then you make it out to be, but great review as always Derrick! +GameXplain
My only gripe with this game are the *redesigns for the Toads.* And the music has too a bit much reverb. And they did miss the opportunity to have *boss rematches* like the did with later games.
I'm still holding out for the possibility that Wario & Waluigi are one of the special elements in the next Mario & Luigi game. [And maybe also a Multiplayer Vs. mode where 2 teams of 2 can battle each other and see who falls flat first.]
Chill fam. The art in the remake is my favorite spritework in pretty much any Mario game ever. Especially Mario and Luigi. I feel like the emotion is conveyed even more and in comparison the old sprites feel dated.
You kidding me. I love the art and animations on the characters they look better than the dream team and paper jam sprites. Sure the original had very expressive cartoony antics. But the new has beautiful everything.
If they did, all of the Toads might look the same. Look what happened to them in Sticker Star, Paper Jam, and Color Splash. I'd shutter to think all of the other species might get that "treatment" too.
Awesome review! Though I can’t agree with you on the sprites of the original, in my opinion they looked ugly and compared to now, they better stay in those fanmade series (Bowser’s sprite has been changed 5 Times, probably due to how developers didn’t like it). Sure they can make the game more funny in some scenarios, but I would much rather have more accurate sprites in a more balanced gameplay than a game where bosses take less than 10 seconds to defeat. But that’s just my opinion
Studley Muffin They still are, that's undeniable, but they are also ugly, outdated, and outclassed by future sprites that resemble more the Mario cast. Those sprites owe most of their popularity to those fan animations like SMBZ, who use those most likely because at the time they were the only ones (or the preferred ones)
Gulorful He Just did. They’re outdated, immensely inaccurate to their current appearances, and they have some very limited color palettes. Now I know those were on the GBA, but even still, I don’t understand how anyone has the gall to call those sprites “works of art” while blatantly insulting the newer models because they don’t look cartoony enough. That’s a very stupid reason to complain about the remake really.
Currently playing the original and having a blast! Some of the features in the remake look good (like easier Bros. attack), but I fell in love with the style and the pixelart of the original, so I stick with it :)
Hey GameXplain, did Peach's voice gotten changed like such as using Samantha Kelly's instead of keeping Jen Taylor's for the remake or did they still used Jen Taylor's Princess Peach voice in the 3DS remake?
tfw the real weakness of this game is the lack of a boss arena(plus mechakoopas replacing the "MECHA CHOMPS" in woohoo university, yet I still think it makes a bit of sense..but removing a unique enemy..hmm..), BUT considering the original game didn't have one..I think it does make sense in a way..yet it'd be nice to have a boss arena in the one game that didn't have it at least..oh well! at least another of the best part of this game is the new game over theme playing the Mario death theme, it's an excellent touch! hmm yet the new "CRITICAL" weaknesses of some enemies are strange to me..I mean jojora being weak to fire makes perfect sense(explains why she now has "BOSS" hp and not 999 def and at least 100 hp since everything has more hp than the original so she'd have 100 instead of 50), but chuck guys being vulnerable to hammers..that's..rather odd(despite flying enemies being weak to jump making sense) 1:32 also they did "slightly" touch the story by removing the part where bowletta tells her koopalings to assemble at the beginning of bowser's castle, putting it in the bowser's minions campaign it looks like so they didn't completely "not touch" the story a bit
Samir Al Hindi Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahauahauauahahauauahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahauahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eh, I will pass on this one. I never particularly cared for the gameplay style in Superstar Saga or its sequels. That said, it looks like a cute remake. Now, a remake of Paper Mario on N64 would excite me. 😃
a Paper Mario N64 or TTYD remake would be really cool. but knowing that Superstar Saga made the Toads and traditional Mario enemies look very basic. I'd be scared of the reaction fans would have if they did the same to the characters in the first 2 Paper Mario games.
Lets be honest... They cut the corner by using wiggler, and Toad, Sprites from Dream Team... Cutting corners let them make the game better so I don't care. Never played the original either so think about folks like me!
If you don't like what Jeremy pointed out, then I don't think you'd buy Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. It has Paper Mario... but it's the M&L gameplay. I still like it, even if has... what Jeremy said.
I sure wish these games would release on the Switch. Or at least, Mario games similar to this (I'd give anything for a series just like the original Super Mario RPG. That was SOOOOOO good). I'm just not into handheld games as much as TV console games.
Yahav13135 I say pick the remake up. It fixes some of the gameplay problems that the original game had & streamlined some aspect of it to make it accessible & less tedious to newcomers.
i couldn't find anywhere to post actual glitches so i decided to post it here. there's a gltich in the game when you are in the sewers of the castle fixing the plumbing. i jumped onto a water ledge and went up into a room and hit a plug to stop the pipe leaking, and as the cutscene was going on i switched from hammer mode to jump with the touch pad and the next thing i know im stuck under the floor.
i didn't think anything of it, and saved and reloaded and im still stuck under the floor, so don't go spamming things or you might have to start all over ;(
5:52 Yeah, no, I'm going to have to disagree with you there - I'm not a fan of the GBA's sprite work; I prefer the faux-3D 2D art used in Dream Team and this 3DS remake. Said remake looks amazing.
Tactical RPG? Using Command Points to issue orders to your units? Of all things, the last game I expected to associate with Mario and Luigi is freaking *Valkyria Chronicles*
I think this looks really good on what I've seen but I never got a chance to play the original version. Is it worth getting the 3ds version for first timers or get the original?
I played SuperStar Saga on the Wii U first so I'm probably the only person who has the most nostalgia for Bowser's Inside Story and liked it the most. I could go on all day why I loved that game (I did get Partners in Time after Bowser's Inside story but that one was just good).
Only thing I don't like about this remake is that they changed too much the art style. I prefered the quirckiness of the old sprites, they poped to the sight a lot more and seemed more alive.
Glad I waited so long to see this review after playing i got the chance to play the original. I think reviews can sometimes hinder your actual experience yourself. I loved the remake. And I actually started playing the original version again, and I actually struggled. I think the Remake surpassed the original for me, even when I didn't think it did. I love it.
I have played this game for 5 hours. And so far..... It's AWESOME!!!! The controls are so smooth and the boss battles were nostalgic, but as game explain said it feels pretty easy.
Personaly I like sss bowser's minions better and I think the sprites are just as good in the dream team style. Also did they really make the game any easier? I really wonder since the difficulty felt the same to me
Hm. Well, I see what you mean about the spritework...but I'm also thankful that they did that too. I dunno...something about Bowser just...looked bad to me back in the day. And now he looks great~ xD
I just got the game yesterday and I'm loving it so far! However, I really think they should have kept the old action commands in the field the same. Switch the order of the bros and use the shoulder button to pick. I guess maybe it's because I grew up on the original, but I find the new system kind of annoying. I also think that they slowed down the battles WAAAAYYYY too much! I really wish the battles were more challenging. I wish there was a "challenge" option so you could speed up the battles and the action commands.
I like the sprite work of the original a lot but saying the new style is lifeless in comparison is very harsh. Mario and Luigi still animate beautifully in the new style
Richard Ford well i see where hes coming from but i too believe its a tad too harsh. either way, the game is just as hillariously silly as before. And thats just what we need before our next M&L series!
i agree..i enjoy very much playing this remake, the story kinda hilarious too(compared to dream team n paper jam)..sometimes, the overworld do feels like playing zelda game, which i like it very much
Honestly, it sacrifices a bit of comedy for pure beauty. It's so stunning and gorgeous!
The only part in this game that look amazing compared to the original is Stardust Feilds. The other areas looked great, but that and a few other things make this game not worth it IF youve played the original in the last few years or so
@@paanazmi8062 It's similar to Zelda? Nice....
3:07 "Mario is mapped to A, Waluigi has B."
*Mario is mapped to A awhile Luigi is mapped to B*
Yeah its while luigi but i can see your confusion
Ear wax problem🤔🤔🤔😂😂😂
We could have an RPG about Wario and Waluigi, but instead we get remakes
Having played both, the remake is better in my opinion, the ability swapping improvements alone make it stand out as better and I never really saw the 3D graphical overhaul to be a detriment.
James Toomer I agree
I still like the original better because I can do the infinite hammer move.
Nintendo better start remaking more GBA games. Metroid Fusion and Golden Sun anyone?
If Nintendo goes along with their current plan the next Metroid remake is probably going to be Super Metroid, since they remade Metroid 1 first with Zero Mission and now Metroid 2 with Samus Returns.
Retro Hero 276 I don't think those metroid games need remakes that much... Some games just aged so poorly they had to remaster them which is the case for metroid 2.
I’d be down with a Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade (the game that Roy starred in, but was only released in Japan) remake.
Fusion's remake is confirmed at the post-credits of Samus Returns if you complete the game
General Grievous I though the ending was just supposed to be connecting the plot not "Hey we are remaking fusion"
Your telling me the bowsers minions part of the game is basically totally accurate battle simulator but with Mario and Luigi enemies? SHUTUP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

I heard someone already did. It's called "Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga Plus" but I haven't played it yet.
Oh hi, WLGP ^^
One JRPG down, two more JRPGs and a Warriors game to go...
Good luck, Derrick...
Derrick is doing the most for the last stretch of 2017
One of those is Monster Hunter Stories? Or am I thinking of something else?
I assume it's Pokemon and Xenoblade 2.
Monster Hunter Stories has been out for a while now.
Oh yeah, right.
3:08 Sounded like "Waluigi", haha. ^^
Well done review! :)
The story still holds up (I still have not finished the OG, because every copy I get of it seems to either not save, or I'm unable to play it, as in controls on my device stops working)
So this is my only resort anyway! :D
Still fond over the fact that the Adv Bros moves are back except they're called "Super" Bros Moves. Glad to reply this game in its remake glory
This was a fantastic review! Very informative and well-paced. I’m definitely going to pick this game up! Keep up the great work!
The original is still beautiful but this 3D remake looks sooo NICE 😍
I was never aware until this year that they had a remake , overall
I played this on GBA years ago
What a Really good Christmas
Weird remake logic
If the game hasn't been remade:
we want a remake
the game has been remade:
Its soulless
they ruined the original
leave the original alone.
They casualized it and so on
Technically rhe only exception to the rules mentioned is RES1 remake.
Mihd 98 we are saying dont fix if not broken. I like the fact they made a remake, but they made the little things generic, and that is what made the game’s charm.
To be fair the resident evil remake was built from the ground up. It deserves to be a high standard of remakes.
I HAVE FURY!!
Mainly because this remake doesn't look as good visually as the original. The gameplay and writing look as good as ever, though, so that's nice.
4th 654 I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. To me, this isn't a graphical upgrade at all. But to each their own.
CrossfacePanda the visuals are good. But the art style has been simplified. Art style and graphics are two different things.
The pun in the description is amazing
Is Mario & Luigi's return to the Beanbean Kingdom a super throwback? Or is it just plain fawful?
They actually did. I have over 99 mushrooms WITH the Mush Badge AA and it's even HARD to kill some bosses (Last one lol). I'm stuck in the last.
Metal Sonic Great to hear!
DID SOMEBODY SAAY KNACK????
KNACK 2 THA FUTURE BABYYYY
Bdgt 0076 HERE COMES THE MONAY!!!!
*NO*
matthew ranger Somebody has to be a party pooper.
UNLIKE KNACK BAYBEEEEEE!!!!
KNACK 2 GOTY...until Mario Odyssey. That will be better than Knack 2!
Mario and luigi on the switch is gonna be awesome.
And to think it be the first game in the series to have four shoulder buttons.
TheGoldminor Uh... hate to break it to you but, this game is on the 3DS.
S.E.G. Plays He means in the future when it eventually does happen.
lvlegoboy 900
IF it eventually come to Switch.
They may make a successor for the 3ds instead.
Switch IS the successor of 3ds
Almond Joy Yeah! A sucessor to 3DS when Pokémon, 2D Zelda and Inazuma Eleven are on Switch..... Come on, there isn't going to have a 4DS to replace the 3Ds. Switch is the WiiU and 3Ds sucessor and Mobile will become the Second pillar of revenue for Nintendo when the 3Ds stop being produced and having developed games in 2019.
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Rabbids + Bowser's minions & Knuckles

SUPER mario and luigi: superstar saga + rabbids + bowser's minions 2.5 HD Director's Cut Ultra game of the year edition... & knuckles.
I honestly feel like this game has come out of nowhere haha. Looks awesome though.
Kirby Of The Stars Why you gotta Stan so hard for the 3ds?
JacksonLOVESNintendo haha and me :) looks fun.
So basically as someone who hasn’t played the GBA original I’ll enjoy this version and not notice the differences.
I'm perfectly fine with it being 2D, because it makes everything look beautiful
Like those jaggy edges. On 3D, they would've been straight edges because the 3DS couldn't handle too many polygons on-screen. Given it's all made of sprites, they could make those jaggy edges because it only needs transparencies around them, instead of a full 3D model
Apparently they took the Geno cameo out...I HAVE FURY!
Chase 64 Cubed Isn't Geno a Square character?
Matheus Viana Yup. Any OC in Super Mario RPG. Just mad at whoever said no to the cameo. Wanted to see how he looked modern.
Chase 64 Cubed Yeah, it's a shame that Square Enix never contacted Nintendo to make SMRPG 2 or at least transfered the rights of the characters
Pedro Gonzales What is Dr. Today doing here anyway! He doesn't even have anything to do with the Bean Kingdom, and is supposed to be helping people in the Mushroom Kingdom. It just throws off his important role in BIS.
Yep. This game is a pass for me now!
I'm so hyped for this game. Mario and Luigi games are my favourite video games series ever, even beating Mario kart which is A LOT.
Wheres the good old mario and luigi conversation in intalian
Blu Robot "Adootededato" "Omatotorebado"
This game is gonna be amazing. I admit I do think the Bowser's Minions mode looks more fun then you make it out to be, but great review as always Derrick! +GameXplain
Can I say how appreciated the subtitles are!! Thank you for taking the time to make them.
3:09 Waluigi is in this game?! AWESOME
My only gripe with this game are the *redesigns for the Toads.* And the music has too a bit much reverb. And they did miss the opportunity to have *boss rematches* like the did with later games.
What does "reverb" mean ?
Now Wait for Partners in Time DX *^-^*
Pedro Gonzales You must be real fun at parties
Its most likely going to happen since there are a lot of things in the game referring to partners in time even easter eggs
Eric Phillipoas Partners in time and Bowser Jr Adventure
I hope we get a new game between then and now (if it actually happens)
PiT wasn't very well received. BIS is most people's favorite, so it'll more than likely get a remake before PiT.
We need remastered versions of Partners in Time, and Bowser’s Inside Story. Who agree’s?
Well probably won’t happen now.
Christopher the company went bankrupt right? These are literally my fav games on the 3ds. What if they made it for the switch?? Hmmmmmm......
Eric Ocasio it would be awesome to see these get a switch port such as a handle full of other DS3DW games have.
Well you get one of those.
Why would you get tired of the dialogue though?
You kidding me. I love the art and animations on the characters they look better than the dream team and paper jam sprites. Sure the original had very expressive cartoony antics. But the new has beautiful everything.
The original Paper Mario needs a same treatment as this.
Use the Color Splash engine or ANYTHING to put Paper Mario game on the Switch
If they did, all of the Toads might look the same. Look what happened to them in Sticker Star, Paper Jam, and Color Splash. I'd shutter to think all of the other species might get that "treatment" too.
We have origami king.
The only thing that i think they missed was a boss rush ring or something. It would have more (re)play value after beating both stories
Bowser's original sprite... yikes...
Mario and Luigi's sprites in SS were pretty iconic.
Héctor Marcano Please explain why the sprites are "ugly".
This game is beautiful
im definitely gonna get this game cuz i never got to play the origional aside from emulators
Currently playing the original and having a blast! Some of the features in the remake look good (like easier Bros. attack), but I fell in love with the style and the pixelart of the original, so I stick with it :)
Hey GameXplain, did Peach's voice gotten changed like such as using Samantha Kelly's instead of keeping Jen Taylor's for the remake or did they still used Jen Taylor's Princess Peach voice in the 3DS remake?
tfw the real weakness of this game is the lack of a boss arena(plus mechakoopas replacing the "MECHA CHOMPS" in woohoo university, yet I still think it makes a bit of sense..but removing a unique enemy..hmm..), BUT considering the original game didn't have one..I think it does make sense in a way..yet it'd be nice to have a boss arena in the one game that didn't have it at least..oh well! at least another of the best part of this game is the new game over theme playing the Mario death theme, it's an excellent touch!
hmm yet the new "CRITICAL" weaknesses of some enemies are strange to me..I mean jojora being weak to fire makes perfect sense(explains why she now has "BOSS" hp and not 999 def and at least 100 hp since everything has more hp than the original so she'd have 100 instead of 50), but chuck guys being vulnerable to hammers..that's..rather odd(despite flying enemies being weak to jump making sense)
1:32 also they did "slightly" touch the story by removing the part where bowletta tells her koopalings to assemble at the beginning of bowser's castle, putting it in the bowser's minions campaign it looks like so they didn't completely "not touch" the story a bit
What did the chief tell the kid

Mac Chino is that a joke or are you really lughing
Samir Al Hindi I'M really laughing! It's just that funny!😂
*Chef
Can't wait to get this game. 😁
no it's not. It's $40 USD. Might be different for you
Eh, I will pass on this one.
Jeremy Knight True...
Lets be honest... They cut the corner by using wiggler, and Toad, Sprites from Dream Team... Cutting corners let them make the game better so I don't care. Never played the original either so think about folks like me!
Gaming groove guy OK. More power to you to like the game. I have no issues with that.
I do think you should play through the original again. Its a lot easier than you remember.
3:09 DID HE SAY WALUIGI!!!!😆😆😆😆😆😆😆 XXXDDDDDDDDDDD
“Mario is A, Waluigi is B”
I didn’t know waluigi was in this game, Derrick.
Wasn’t the fast forward feature introduced in Dream Team or Paper Jam? Just curious.
Paper Jam.
Paper Jam had a lot of cool features added in this game.
The question is, if I never played the original, should I pick this one up or play the original? (regardless of price)
Yahav13135 I say pick the remake up. It fixes some of the gameplay problems that the original game had & streamlined some aspect of it to make it accessible & less tedious to newcomers.
Original
Original is like $8 on Wii U (I think, don't remember if on N3DS.) This costs like $45. But, both have their merits.
Honestly I'm more excited for Minion Quest
i couldn't find anywhere to post actual glitches so i decided to post it here. there's a gltich in the game when you are in the sewers of the castle fixing the plumbing. i jumped onto a water ledge and went up into a room and hit a plug to stop the pipe leaking, and as the cutscene was going on i switched from hammer mode to jump with the touch pad and the next thing i know im stuck under the floor.
i didn't think anything of it, and saved and reloaded and im still stuck under the floor, so don't go spamming things or you might have to start all over ;(
5:52 Yeah, no, I'm going to have to disagree with you there - I'm not a fan of the GBA's sprite work; I prefer the faux-3D 2D art used in Dream Team and this 3DS remake.
Sir, cannot overlook the fact you use super splash bros on a non-spiked guy.
0:38
Shame on you.
Only thing I don't like about this remake is that they changed too much the art style. I prefered the quirckiness of the old sprites, they poped to the sight a lot more and seemed more alive.
I Love how they changed up the Koopaling Fights
I *still* don’t understand why there’s no 3D option? That’s my biggest disappointment here... :(
Mario and Waluigi have the best RPGs
Thanks for the review! Very informative and to the point.
I only hope that when you defeat bowletta you can still Rome the place and not counts it as a game over.
I wish they would've kept the 3d effect. The Mario & Luigi games made such great use of it in the past.
I'm going to like a LOT Bowser's minions basically because... (ALL GLORY TO OUR LORD AND SAVIOR: KING BOWSER)
I love it.
Nintendo - there’s no 3D option in the game
Me - ight imma head out
So.....what's all of you guys fav Mario & Luigi game? For me it is Bowser's inside story.
Knight Warrior For me, I’d say it’s a tie between Bowser’s Inside Story and Dream Team
Partners in Time definitely.
Superstar Saga's my favorite, second favorite is Bowser's Inside Story.
i like every one that has X boss
Dream Team is my favourite
Has anyone figured out what that giant bean thing with a face is? 3:23
Logandactyl I don't think it does anything, I think it's just to look cool
You can skip the tutorials in this game.
10/10, instant must-have.
I never played the original GBA version. So I look forward to playing this tomorrow.
So from what I can see, it seems either version is fine.
The original for being more challenging, and this for being a bit easier.
I love this game. I see why you like the original (I have played it too but it broke) but this game fixes so much! 20/10 for this game
Truly sad it doesn't have the 3D option..the graphics look so beautiful and well painted/drawing 😑😢
I have played this game for 5 hours. And so far..... It's AWESOME!!!! The controls are so smooth and the boss battles were nostalgic, but as game explain said it feels pretty easy.
I hope that this game does well so it could push Nintendo to remake other Mario RPGs like the original Paper Mario and Legend of the 7 Stars
I doubt Legend of the 7 stars since Square owns Geno, Mallow, Smithy gang, Booster, Croco... All of the original cast that debut in it...
"hears battle theme" ima gona go back to the gba thank you.
*Mario Is Mapped To A, Waluigi Has B*
I can't wait for them to remake Bowser's inside story! (: if they do remake it that would be awesome!
wish granted!😀
I’m ready for Jokes End’s music
Also chopper bros isn’t OP anymore
I have a copy of the GBA original I've been meaning to play for ages--sounds like there isn't any reason to pick this version up instead.
Funny, I just went to my local games shop, bought the game because they got it early and now I watch the review
If thell ever do a remake of bowsers inside story i want to play with this bowser sprite from ss he just looks so menacing and giant
I AM FAWFUL
FINK RAT!
Personaly I like sss bowser's minions better and I think the sprites are just as good in the dream team style. Also did they really make the game any easier? I really wonder since the difficulty felt the same to me
Blade Master Over drive they gave the bosses more HP and stronger attacks
Hm. Well, I see what you mean about the spritework...but I'm also thankful that they did that too. I dunno...something about Bowser just...looked bad to me back in the day. And now he looks great~ xD
(Martin) I thoroughly enjoy the new look as it reminds me of the sprites in Super Mario RPG
That's it, I'm getting this game tomorrow morning.
Thank you for the solid review!
