The fish are in the shade of the mangroves waiting for the bait to come within reach. They are ambush predators' and are excited by the bait coming withing striking distance. Keep to those shad areas like you did today. Thanks for the great video

25/30# leader is better than 20# for snook during the day. At night you can go heavier. They can be leader shy.

That WAS pretty funny! Was that a seagull? Anytime you see a bait doing the "death dance", there's a really good chance he was hit and injured by a gamefish, so work that area really well. Anytime I'm fishing with pilchards/greenbacks, I'll bounce a few off something to stun them and try to get them to act crazy like that!
You got "gilled" by that Snook! If you hook them at just the right angle they will cut right through even 60lb. test. Next time you catch a Snook examine the lower gill plate. It is as 🎉sharp as a razor! If I were you though, I'd go to 30 or 40lb florocarbon depending on the water clarity. I use 60lb on a bridge or pier!
On your question about live or artificial shrimp. Live is always better, BUT they get picked apart by pinfish during the day time.
That NICE snook that you missed is a good example. Watch that another time or two! I believe if you would have had a live shrimp that Snook would have nailed it! The bigger Snook get the smarter they are. (They don't get big by being stupid). That one did what I call a "kiss and go."
He just wanted a better look and/or smell. Oh he could have caught it if he wanted to, and a smaller one that is competing with others would have! But bigger ones are much better ambush hunters, so they don't worry about competing with others so much.
Btw yesterday, I went to the place I told you about in email. The Tarpon were on fire! I landed 3 (all looked to be between 50 & 80lbs) and jumped about 4 or 5 others! (One was MASSIVE), maybe I'll pick up a Go Pro so that I can wear it or put my drone up. But unfortunately I'm terrible at editing. 😢
Another GREAT video bro! Keep up the GREAT work!!!

The seagull part was hilarious to me! I couldn’t help but laugh haha but good to know about the bait fish acting like that! I was wondering what it was doing but that makes sense! I had a feeling that snook knew what it was doing by taking me under that tree so quick! I’ve always heard about the gills I guess this was the first time I was a victim but won’t be the last for sure!
Also that makes sense about the shrimp because you’re correct the problem is more likely than not a small fish will pick it apart or at least with my luck they will haha!
Man that’s awesome to hear about the tarpon! Catching one is on my bucket list for sure! Might be even worth making the trip that way soon I’ll definitely let you know! As always I appreciate the support and the information!! Tight lines!! 😁🎣

Go check out Laz (the videos I sent you) and see the types of places he fishes. Also pay attention to his retrieve. I'll bet you that you have places very similar that are close to you. I'll get on Google Earth when I get back to my office tomorrow and see what I can find around your "neck of the woods." But my guess is your area has more and better places for Tarpon than my area!
Tell you what, email your address or PO box and I'll send you a little "care package." I'll even replace your VooDoo Shrimp!
