I come here, bc I want to understand death a little better; but doesn't ease my fears. I keep telling myself, well u weren't alive in the early 20th century. I wasn't born til the late 1950s. Then that other voice says: well, I'm here now! I turn 62 nxt month. Most ppl celebrate it. I feel like each I'm alive I'm getting closer & closer to the inevitable. My biggest fear would b gasping for breath. Knowing me, I'd probably fight it. But it's a losing battle.

There is something about seeing you and hearing you that helps bring out the validity of what you are explaining to me. Watching your behavior to me, is genuine, and I find it helpful for me to believe as well as understand what it is you do as well as what all takes place when you pass. I have learned so much from you. Thanks so much. You are appreciated!

re: Your request for input from us about possible podcasts. You asked, so hear I go . . . You are so extremely attractive and have great and effective body language during your presentations. Ergo, I would recommend you continue with max focus on live and video efforts vs. podcasts. Your podcasts would likely be great, but we like to see you! Keep up the up the great work.

Some one online session asked about, Why "We" have viewings, funerals etc...It is to realize the physical fact that that person is no longer alive, they aren't apart of our daily lives any more. We are a touchy, feely and visual being so its an acceptance that that relationship has ended. It is also to honor and celebrate that person and their life on earth...It is also a time to relize that we ALL are temporal and temporary and that there is God/ a Higher Being...It is also to relize that the person is Not suffering, at peace, with God and in heaven....

I’m an insomniac too, Kari! (I watch ALL your videos at night, unless I’ve caught the rare, video live!)
OH!! The NICKELS ON THE EYELIDS,!! My Mom is 92 years old, and she’s told me a story of being a very young child, and her Dad or Grandfather, took her to a funeral/viewing, and the person had nickels on their eyes and she asked if she could have them! So they had to explain to her the reason why she couldn’t have them!
(I may have shared that before, I can’t remember.)

My mom was in hospice in my home for a good amount of time. When we became aware that she was going hospice totally took over and made a horrible situation completely bearable. She had two nurses to ease her journey and a caretaker that wanted to prepare her to look her best, all the while our family was all there and we we were all at peace with her. If she had to go, she did so perfectly. We miss her but know she is completely at rest.

You were talking about little children being at a funeral. My niece was 3yrs. Old when her daddy was very sick. She had trouble being around her sick daddy, running away from him when he ask her to come to him. Well after he died and was on the day of visitation, my sister took her to see him alone. Surprisingly enough, she was happy and smiling...saying to her mommy..see daddy isn't hurting anymore! This was so moving. Dont underestimate children at any age, on how they mite react. Play it by ear. Be positive, let them guide you on how to approach this delicate time.

Kari, you mentioned people who requested a home funeral and the casket size issues. That's interesting because we have a very old mansion in our area where tours go on. My son and I took the tour a few years back and we were surprised to see a special doorway/window that was rather odd in the Livingroom. The tour guide explained that this was made specifically to take the bodies of family members who passed away. It would fit their coffins so they could be taken out. In those days deaths in the family was quite common and almost expected, so they already had the house modified for it a head of time in those times.

Kari, your idea of a simulcast (Coffee with Kari and a podcast) is well worth an experiment. Try it a few times. I'm not familiar with podcasts, so if you can tell us how to find those, that would help.

It would just be a series that would post weekly to any podcast platform to listen to. I would not change the coffee with kari content but add an intro most likely and exit dialogue

Thanks for your nice videos. Interesting to see how different the funeral customs are in the USA and Sweden. Here you pay tax for the Swedish church to take care of most things. Private crematoria sound very strange to my ears. You talk about this in a dignified and respectful way. And you are very beautiful! Thanks!

Hi .I think a podcast is a great idea. I prefer seeing someone as they speak, but I'm older, so just my opinion. Really great video, wonderful questions, I really enjoyed it thank you 😊

My mom passed Jan 13 and still not cremated. NY and waiting which is hard for family. All hard in this pandemic. She looked fairly good at viewing which was private. Face drooped a bit but no embalming. Makeup and hair lovely and nails. It was sad as didn’t see her 10 months due to quarantine in senior living

My husband’s grandmother passed away, and we flew there with our youngest and had to leave our two older kids (6 and 2yrs old). We told our 6yr old that we had to go see his great grandmother and say good bye cos she had passed away. He stayed silent for a bit so i elaborated that passing away means that she went to sleep and won’t be waking up. He said “ok” and went about his business. Later on he said “i am staying with grandma and grandpa with ny sister cos mommy and dad are going to see great grandma and say goodbye”. He understood enough to be content with our response.

I'm fairly new RUclips & not familiar to all available cyber apps. If you have a Q&A show, maybe it would be better as an audio podcast (if there's such a thing) unless you have visual aides and are looking for more exposure. There are many curious folks out here with interesting questions concerning your industry. You have a talent and overall appeal to the masses and it's working. I've been curious about it since I was a 4 year old after I saw my first casketed dead body and was told "she's asleep." Something didn't add up after being "shut down" for asking too many questions, so I went to mortuary science college 20 years later to get the truth. I have since retired from the death business. This is a very entertaining & informative channel.

Kari, you are a lovely, sincere, and caring person. Bless you.
Question: I was SHOCKED!! to see that Aretha Franklin was changed into three separate outfits for her three days of viewing.
Was this a cultural tradition? Have you had families request this? Your comments please.

    • @ericsimpson95
      @ericsimpson95 3 года назад +3

Here’s the thing: Aretha was the QUEEN. Whereas I would under no circumstances be changing clothes every day on my loved one (heck, I don’t even own three good outfits!), Aretha was altogether different. Consider the enormous lines every day to view her. So I though it was quite fabulous and in keeping with who she was to change outfits.. I was just disappointed that those of us at home didn’t get to see them. I stayed glued to that funeral for all 7+ hours (or however long it was).. it was amazing, and the MUSIC! Culturally, I think the black community has funeralizing DOWN!
